MAUDE MADONNA FITZ

CLARION - Maude Madonna Quigley Fitz was born Sept. 9, 1905, at Pond Creek, Okla. She was the daughter of John V. and Myrtie (Baumgartner) Quigley. She was raised and educated in Churdan, Iowa.

On Nov. 10, 1924, she was united in marriage to Kenneth M. Fitz in Jefferson, Iowa. After their marriage they farmed north of Rowan until 1934, when they moved to a farm north of Clarion. Kenneth retired from farming in 1955, and they moved to Lake Cornelia until entering the Clarion Health Care Center in 1989. Maude died Wednesday (March 10, 1999) at the Clarion Care Center at the age of 93.

She was a member of the Social Hour Club and the Senior Citizens Center of Clarion.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Rhea Steenblock and husband, Richard, of Belmond, and Barbara Potter of Des Moines; five grandchildren, Jerry Steenblock and wife, Margaret, of Klemme, Susan Nail and husband, Bill Billings, of Dakota Dunes, S.D., Beth Bartell and husband, Lyle, of Mason City, Bruce Potter and wife, Bonnie, of Waterloo, and Debra Potter of Chicago, Ill.; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lucia Wright of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Beth Walker of Cayce, S.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her daughter, Coetta; two brothers, Corlus and Leland; a sister, Fern; and a son-in-law, Warren Potter.

Her funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 1999, at the United Church of Christ, Congregational Church in Clarion. Burial was in the Graceland Cemetery at Rowan. The Rev. Curt Miner officiated. JoAnn Olson was the organist, and Linda Miner sang.

STELLA WILSON

LAKE MILLS - Stella Wilson, 92, died Sunday (March 14, 1999) at the Lake Mills Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Salem Lutheran Church Chapel, Lake Mills, with the Rev. Sara Beth Akre officiating. Burial will be held at 3:30 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery , Cherokee.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to services at the chapel on Tuesday.

RICHARD W. 'DICK' OLSON

MASON CITY - Richard W. "Dick" Olson, 60, of 711 Crescent Place, died Saturday (March 13, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Richard "Rick" Eichenlaub officiating. Interment will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Major-Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., also, one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. There will be an Elks Lodge Service at 7 tonight at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice of North Iowa or the First Christian Church.

Dick was born Sept. 2, 1938, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Forrest M. and Miriam W. (Wray) Olson. He graduated from Sioux City Central High School in 1956, then served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. St. Paul for two years. Following his discharge from the Navy, Dick attended Morningside College in Sioux City. He then attended and graduated from Wayne State Teachers College and taught school for one year in Norfolk, Neb.

Dick moved to Mason City in 1968, where he worked for RJ Reynolds Company for 26 years. He married Sharon Kephart on Aug. 22, 1970, here in Mason City. Dick was a member of the First Christian Church, Elks Lodge, and the I Club. Dick was an avid sports fan and would be seen at many athletic events in the area. He enjoyed working with the Willson Foundation restoring Meredith Willson's home, loved playing cards, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Dick is survived by his wife, Sharon L. Olson of Mason City; daughter, Candy Hinderman and husband, Greg, of Mason City; son, Todd J. Kephart and wife, Cindy, of Mason City; grandchildren, Holly Hinderman of Mason City, Sarah Kephart of Mason City, and Tyler Neuschwenger of Collins Maxwell, Iowa; one sister, Martha Ann Hart and husband, Larry, of Chapel Hill, N.C.; two nephews, David and Tom Hart of Chapel Hill, N.C.; one niece, Kathy Tomlinson of Raleigh, N.C.; mother-in-law, Maxine Clark of Mason City; and several cousins.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant brother, Charles.

AARON MATTHEW CLARK

CLEAR LAKE - Aaron Matthew Clark, infant son of Dennis and Deborah Clark of 1414 A. South Shore Drive, died at birth on Saturday (March 13, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

Private services will be held at a later time.

The family suggests memorials to the Caring Pregnancy Center, Mason City.

ETHEL MAE KRUEGER

CHARLES CITY - Ethel Mae Krueger, 94, died Saturday (March 13, 1999) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, with the Rev. Jack Ivey of the First Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery , Cable, Wis.

Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, and from 9 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.

ROGER ERION

CHARLES CITY - Roger Erion, 38, died Friday (March 12, 1999) as the result of an automobile accident near Elizabeth, Ill.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home with the Rev. Blair Rohde-Frank of the Grace United Methodist Church, Floyd, officiating. Final disposition will take place at a later date.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. until service time on Tuesday, at the funeral home.

JOHN 'JACK' ROACH

MASON CITY - John "Jack" Roach, 65, of 522 N. Pennsylvania Ave., died Sunday (March 14, 1999) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

A Memorial service will be held at noon on Wednesday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Reverend Dennis Cahill, of Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City, officiating.

There will be no visitation. His body was cremated.

John "Jack" Roach was born June 15, 1933, in Iowa City, the son of David and Esther Roach. He lived most of his life in California, moving to Mason City in 1982.

Jack was a bartender in many different places in Mason City and also owned and operated his own bar for a while. He enjoyed his work and was always a friendly, happy person.

He is survived by one son, Dennis Bor and his wife, Kathy, Mason City; and two granddaughters, Valerie Bor, Mason City; and Amie Bor, California; two sisters, Jean Tostenson and LaVon Kamper; one brother, Jerry Roach; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bernel and James Roach; and two sisters, Betty Benson and Shirley Ankeny.

MARIE K. CLARK

MASON CITY - Marie K. Clark, 96, of 424 24th St. S.W., Mason City, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at Good Shepherd Health Care Center, Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Carl A. Ries officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery , Mason City.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with a St. Theresa Circle Rosary beginning at 4:30 p.m. followed by a Scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m.

Marie Katherine Clark was born June 30, 1902, in Belmont, Wis., daughter of Bernard W. and Kate (Hying) Bernemann. She married Charles F. "Jack" Clark on February 28, 1928, in Mason City.

Marie moved to Mason City in 1908. She attended St. Joseph High School and Hamilton Business College. In 1948, she started working at J.C. Penneys until retiring in 1960. In 1961, she began working at Sam Raizes Department Store until retiring in 1979.

She enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, reading, and she loved to spend time with her family.

Marie was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church since 1908, St. Theresa Circle, the Friendly Birthday Club and the Firemens Auxiliary.

Survivors include one son, Richard C. Clark and his wife, Alice, Dubuque; four daughters, Marilyn Cimijotti and her husband, Abe, Ocala, Fla., Charlotte Clark, Mason City, Karen Garlock and her husband, Neil, Burnsville, Minn. and Kathryn Knutson, Spring Lake Park, Minn.; two sisters, Florence Berger, Forest City, and Genevieve Walters, Mason City; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Bill, Leo, Francis and Edward Bernemann; and one sister, Agnes Bernemann.

EMMA L. EVERDING

MASON CITY - Emma L. Everding, 91, formerly of 929 16th St. N.E., died Sunday (March 14, 1999) at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of the Holy Child at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 N. Delaware Ave., with the Rev. Frederick J. Wood officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery , Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Emma L. Everding Memorial Fund.

Emma L. Everding was born January 21, 1908, near St. Ansgar, Iowa, the daughter of George A. and Martha (Ruehlow) Belz. Emma graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1926 and she also played girls high school basketball while she attended school.

Emma owned and operated a restaurant in St. Ansgar and then married Fred Everding. Emma then was a star route carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for several years.

Emma enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening and fishing and traveling with her husband in their motor home.

Emma was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

She is survived by one son, Ron Everding and his wife, Noreen, of Mason City, Iowa; and one sister, Ida Groth, of St. Ansgar, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and special friends, Ella Turk and Mary Hanson, of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred in 1993; one brother, Lawrence; and one sister, Laura.
