Virginia “Ginny” Ruth Harris, 84, of Burlington died at 12:20 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2006, at Great River Medical Center-Klein Center.
Born August 29, 1921 in Little York, Illinois, she was the daughter of Morris and Irene Carr Sly. Mrs. Harris grew up in Henderson County and attended Carman Grade School and Stronghurst High School.
On February 19, 1967 she married Harold Harris in Monmouth, Illinois. He died March 7, 1982.
Mrs. Harris worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, National Research Bureau, was a sitter at the hospital for a short time and retired from the Burlington Hawk Eye in 1985.
She was a of the Methodist faith and was a life member of the Burlington Gym Auxiliary and a member of V.F.W. Post 10102 Auxiliary, and a past member of Eagles Club, Moose Lodge, American Legion Auxiliary and R.S.V.P. (Retired Seniors Volunteer Program).
Survivors include a brother, James C. Sly of Davenport, and several nieces and nephews.
Her husband, parents, brother and sister preceded her in death.
A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
Hailey Ann Harwood

Hailey Ann Harwood, five months, of Burlington died at 12:54 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2006, in Great River Medical Center.
Born November 22, 2005 in West Burlington, she was the daughter of William C. Harwood and Amanda D. Carruthers
Hailey was baptized in the Lutheran faith. She was the happiest baby and was always smiling. The short time she was here, she brought so much joy.
Survivors include her parents, William C. Harwood and Amanda D. Carruthers of Burlington; sisters, Emily Amanda Harwood and Samantha Jane Harwood both at home; half brother, James Harwood of Burlington; maternal grandmother, Gail Kerns of Burlington; maternal grandfather, George Carruthers of Mount Union; paternal grandmother, Dorothy M. Harwood of Burlington; and maternal great grandparents, Donna Lee and Donald E. Kerns of Burlington.
Her paternal grandfather, Harold F. Harwood, Sr. preceded her in death.
A memorial has been established.
According to Hailey’s family’s wishes, her body will be cremated following the services.
Thomas C. Hassel

Thomas Charles Hassel, 50, of Burlington, died at his home at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, December 10, 2005.
Born June 16, 1955 in Burlington, he was the son of Arthur Arnold and Betty Lou Stroup Hassel. He was previously married to Jackie Doran.
Mr. Hassel was a production worker at General Electric in Burlington for many years.
He was a 1973 graduate of Burlington High School. He was of the First Christian Faith. He loved Iowa sports and was an avid Hawkeye fan. He was a collector of sport cards and was an excellent woodworker.
Survivors include one son, Ryan (Megan) Hassel of Waukee; one daughter, Megan Ann Hassel of Clive; one granddaughter Kamari; one brother, William (Karen) Hassel of Burlington; and one sister, Susan (Steve) Hamler of Racine, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial has been established.

Herb B. Hasting, 59, of Gladstone, Illinois, died at 10:36 a.m. Monday, October 2, 2006, at Great River Medical Center.
Born December 25, 1946 in Kansas City, Missouri, he was the son of Benjamin and Evelyn Webb Hasting. On June 22, 1969 he married Vicki Watson at Gladstone United Methodist Church.
Mr. Hasting was a 1965 graduate of Union High School in Biggsville, Illinois. He worked as an insurance broker since 1982.
He was of the Methodist faith.
In 1994 he received the Fortunaire for Life Investors Award. He enjoyed E-Bay, was an avid NASCAR racing fan and a Dale Earnhart, Sr. fan. He was very active in local stock and drag car racing events.
Survivors include his loving wife and best friend and “Muffin”.
His parents preceded him in death.
Rosalee Hawk

Rosalee G. Hawk, 83, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida died Sunday, November 6, 2005 at The Gardens Court in Palm Beach Gardens.
Born December 14, 1921 in Oquawka, Illinois she was the daughter of Walter E. and Ethel Marian Turner Thomas. On June 26, 1945 she married Wesley Hawk in Burlington. They moved from Detroit, Michigan to Palm Beach Gardens in 1955.
Mrs. Hawk was a graduate of Monmouth High School and was of the Baptist faith. She was very dedicated to her job as business office manager for Bev Smith Ford, Benz, Chevrolet and Steve Moore Chevrolet for 35 years retiring in 1990. She loved traveling with her husband.
Survivors include her husband of sixty years, Wesley Hawk of Palm Beach Gardens; five sisters, Parolee E. Steffener of Sperry, Alice E. Dunn of West Palm Beach, Marilyn B. Budilier of Davenport, Barbara J. (Roscoe) Champion of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Sherrill L. (Bruno) Silli of West Palm Beach; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents preceded her in death.

Dorothy Heater

Dorothy M. Heater, 85 of Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab since August and formerly of Burlington died at 12:54 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2005, at Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab.
Born December 10, 1919 in Burlington she was the daughter of Pearl and Ethel Tadlock Wasson. On October 2, 1940 she married Justus Heater in Calvary Assembly of God Church, New London. He died March 2, 1999.
Mrs. Heater was a homemaker and of the Protestant faith. She enjoyed cooking, crafts and going out to eat. In the past years she enjoyed going to Great River Medical Center and seeing all her friends employed there.
Although Dorothy and her husband Justus had no children, they played a big part in helping raise some nephews and nieces. Jim Cross, Dorothy’s nephew, was blessed as one of the nephews she and Justus helped raise.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Her husband, parents, three sisters, and one brother preceded her in death.
Martha R. Hellberg
November 15, 1922 - September 28, 2005

Martha Rosetta Hellberg, 82, of West Burlington died at 2:26 p.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2005, at Great River Medical Center.
Born November 15, 1922, in Mediapolis, she was the daughter of David and Gertrude Bethel Mehaffy. On May 17, 1947, she married Paul Hellberg in Keokuk.
Mrs. Hellberg worked in production at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and also managed Sylvania’s cafeteria.
She was a graduate of Burlington High School and a member of Heritage Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing bingo, traveling, fishing and camping with her husband and her two dogs, Buffy and Susie.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Hellberg of West Burlington; one son, Michael Hellberg of Burlington; one granddaughter; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lewis Mehaffy and David Mehaffy Jr., both of Burlington; two sisters, Juanita Freeman of Oakville and Doris Brown of West Burlington; nieces; and nephews.
Her parents, two sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
A memorial has been established.
