DALLAS HAWKE

DUMONT - Dallas Hawke, 88, died Friday (Aug. 13, 1999) at the Franklin General Hospital, Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, Sheffield, with burial in the Hillside Cemetery , Sheffield.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield.

Dallas Hawke was born Aug. 14, 1910, in Franklin County, on a dairy farm outside of Sheffield. He was the son of James and Rose (Krusemark) Hawke. He received his education in the Sheffield school system and attended Iowa State College in Ames., where he took a course in animal husbandry. He then became a D.H.I.A. supervisor in Humboldt County for the college. On Feb. 3, 1934, he was united in marriage to Ione Thomas of Sheffield. They rented a farm on the southwest corner of Sheffield, better known as City Edge Dairy Farm, which they operated from March 1934, until March of 1956. On Feb. 9, 1957, he married Ruby Hudson and moved into a house in Sheffield. In 1965, he and Ruby moved to Howard County to help their son-in-law farm. In 1972, they moved to a retirement house on the north side of Cedar Lake in Nashua, where they enjoyed boating and fishing. On April 1, 1976, they assumed management of the Allison Dairy Sweet, eventually purchased the business and owned it for approximately 15 years. In 1990, they sold their business and moved to Dumont for their retirement in 1997.

Dallas is survived by his wife, Ruby of Dumont; two step-daughters, Patricia Miller and her husband, Gene, of Dumont, and Priscilla Jones and her husband, Brian, of Fort Dodge; 14 step-grandchildren; 22 step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Doris Foell of Sheffield, Arlene Schrupp of Sheffield, and Maxine Jensen of Clarion; and one sister-in-law, Marjorie Hawke of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Melvin.

HARRIS CHARLSON JOHNSON

BELMOND - Funeral services for Harris Charlson Johnson, 89, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Pastor Lowell Halvorson officiating. Interment will be in St. Olaf Cemetery with military rites provided by the Belmond Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Tenold Funeral home, and will continue one hour prior to service time at the church on Tuesday.

The family requests memorials be made to the Harris Johnson Memorial Fund.

Harris Charlson Johnson, the son of George and Josephine (Charlson) Johnson, was born on June 13, 1910, in rural Belmond. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

He attended country school and graduated from Belmond High School. Harris was active in the 3rd Airforce and was honorably discharged.

On Dec. 30, 1953, Harris was united in marriage to Minnie Erdman Kolpin at the St. John Lutheran Church parsonage in Belmond. The family lived and farmed in rural Belmond.

Harris was a life long member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. He thoroughly enjoyed woodworking and woodcarving, and he loved spending time with his family.

Harris died on Saturday (Aug. 14, 1999) at the Belmond Community Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie of Belmond; three sons, Dallas Johnson and his wife, Paula, of Belmond, David Johnson and his wife, Ruth, of Belmond, and Dick Kolpin and his wife, Wendy, of Kennewick, Wash.; a daughter, Karleen Humphrey and her husband, David, of Clear Lake; a brother, Ernest Johnson and his wife, Adele, of Belmond; a sister, Georgia Peterson and her husband, Willard, of Indianola; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leonard, Kermit and Arnold; and sisters, Gladys, Alma and Mildred.

BERNEICE F. STAUFFER

CHARLES CITY - Berneice F. Stauffer, 77, died Saturday (Aug. 14, 1999) at the Riverside Chautauqua Guest Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Rosehill Cemetery , Greene, with the Rev. Dennis D. Niezwaag of the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Charles City, officiating. Burial will be in the Rosehill Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City.

JAMES D. COE

MANLY - James D. Coe, 57, died Friday (Aug. 13, 1999) at his residence following a sudden heart attack.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Assembly of God Church, 1301 N. Carolina Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. David French officiating. A flag folding ceremony will be conducted at the church by the Mason City Memorial Association. Following the services, his body will be cremated at Memorial Park Crematory.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to direct memorials to the James Coe Memorial Fund in care of the family, P.O. Box 375, Manly, Iowa.

James was born July 18, 1942, the son of Donald A. and Marie (Groh) Coe, in Mason City. In his younger years James enlisted in the United States Air Force in the intelligence division. After enlisting, the Air Force sent James to the University of Indiana for some specific language classes, and then based him near Berlin, Germany. Following his discharge, he returned to, and later graduated from, the University of Indiana in Bloomington. On Jan. 10, 1998, James was united in marriage to Kaylene in Melbourne, Fla. The couple has since resided in Manly.

James had an interest in attending auctions looking for and collecting old guns and antiques. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed casting his rod and reel whenever time allowed. As of late, he could often be found working on and playing with his computer. James always looked forward to watching college wrestling and the University of Notre Dame football. He was most noted for being a devoted father, great husband, and a very kind gentleman.

James was a member of the First Assembly of God Church of Mason City.

Those thankful for having shared in James' life include his wife, Kaylene; his mother, Marie (Coe) Miller and her husband, Victor, of Mason City; two daughters, Deb and her husband, Mike Matarazzo, and Abigail Coe, all of South Bend, Ind.; one son, Robert J. and his wife, Alison Coe, of Indianapolis, Ind.; one step-son, Robbie, of Manly; one sister, Suzanne and her husband, Ron Minert, of Clear Lake; one grandson, Caelan Coe; and many other family members.

Mr. Coe was preceded in death by his father, Donald A. Coe, and one uncle, Arnold R. Coe.

DARYL D. SCHIMMELPFENNIG

FOREST CITY - Daryl D. Schimmelpfennig, 71, passed away Friday (Aug. 13, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Ewing Funeral Chapel, Britt, with Pastor Rosi Schleuter officiating. Burial will be in the Bingham Township Cemetery , Woden. Full military graveside rites will be conducted by Battery D, 2nd Battalion, 14 Marines, Waterloo, Iowa.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at the Ewing Funeral Chapel, Britt.

Memorials may be directed to the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Daryl, the son of Harry and Dorothy Caskey Schimmelpfennig, was born in Harper, Iowa, on March 24, 1928. He grew up in the Harper area and attended Keokuk County Schools.

Daryl served in the Marine Corp from December of 1950, until January of 1954. During this time, he served in the Korean Conflict, earning one battle star. Daryl was united in marriage with Jo Ellen Guy on Jan. 18, 1957, in Fairfield, Iowa. The couple moved to Hancock County in March of 1957, where they spent their entire married life. Daryl raised livestock and enjoyed training horses. He served as president of the Winnebago-Hancock Cattlemen's Association. Daryl was named Outstanding Producer of the Year by the Winnebago-Hancock County Cattlemen's Association in 1994.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Ellen; four children, Michael and his wife, Debra Schimmelpfennig, and their children, Andrew, Jacob and Emily, of Woden, Roger Schimmelpfennig of Forest City, Kathy and her husband, Gregory Gerdes, and their children, Nicholas and Jessica, of Bloomington, Ill., and Alan and his wife, Dr. Kari Jones Schimmelpfennig, of Stockbridge, Ga.; one brother, Gerald of Batavia; and two sisters, Vava Jones of Long Beach, Calif., and Harriett Neart of St. Louis, Mo.

Daryl was preceded in death by his parents, and one granddaughter.

MARK EDWARD MULLANEY

MASON CITY - Mark Edward Mullaney, 39, of 501 S. Kentucky Ave., died Saturday (Aug. 14, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Carl A. Ries officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Monday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to the Mark Edward Mullaney Memorial Fund.

Mark Edward Mullaney was born July 22, 1960, the son of Donald E. and Joan (Gribben) Mullaney. He graduated from Newman High School in 1979. Mark was employed by Rockwell Collins until he became ill with multiple sclerosis at a very early age. After receiving care at home, he then resided at Heritage Care Center for the past 17 years.

Mark enjoyed reading and writing poetry. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye, Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Cubs fan. He will always be remembered for his great strength and smiles throughout his life. He will always hold a special place in each of our hearts.

He was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Mason City.

Mark is survived by his father, Donald E. Mullaney, Mason City, and his mother, Joan Mullaney, Mason City; two brothers, Patrick Mullaney and his wife, Nancy, Cabot, Ark., and Joseph Mullaney and his wife, Kim, of Le Grand; four sisters, Leann Jurgens and her husband, Dean, Thornton, Christy Engebretson and her husband, Scott, Thornton, Michelle Loterbauer and her husband, Brian, Mason City, and Lisa Hegland, Austin, Minn.; 15 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; one niece, Amanda; and several aunts and uncles.

PAULINE STONECYPHER

FLOYD - Pauline Stonecypher, 79, died Friday (Aug. 13, 1999) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Gospel Lighthouse Church, Floyd, with the Rev. Paul F. Phillips officiating. Interment will be in the Orchard Cemetery , Orchard.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Champion Funeral Home, Osage, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

BEVERLY WEIGEL

RUDD - Beverly Weigel, 66, died Friday (Aug. 13, 1999) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, with the Rev. Stanley J. Hayek of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will occur at a later date.

There will be no public visitation.

ZAINE NIKOLAUS BUSS

MASON CITY - Zaine Nikolaus Buss, infant son of Nik Buss and Stacey Crooks of Mason City, died Friday (Aug. 13, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Major-Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.
