NEW HAMPTON - Merrille E. Volker, 77, of New Hampton, died Wednesday (Oct. 13, 1999) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Harvey Abrahamson officiating. Interment will be in New Hampton City Cemetery , with military rites by the Fae Stine American Legion Post #38.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Larkin-Martin-Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton, and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

NORTHWOOD - Eldora Stoddard, 84, died Thursday (Oct. 14, 1999) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

NORA SPRINGS - Judith E. Malfero, 57, of 302 Third N.E., died Thursday (Oct. 14, 1999) at her home in Nora Springs.

NORA SPRINGS - Earl E. Kahl, 61, of 116 N. Seminary, died Thursday (Oct. 14, 1999) at his home in Nora Springs.

DORIS DIETERICH PAULSEN
MASON CITY - Doris Dieterich Paulsen, 82, of 17396 Kingbird Ave., died Thursday (Oct. 7, 1999) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City, with the Rev. John "Jack" Gannett officiating. The body will be donated to the University of Iowa School of Medicine, Iowa City, with burial held at a later date at the Calvary Cemetery , rural Osage.
There will be no visitation. Major Erickson Funeral Home and Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City, or St. John's Lutheran Church, Osage.
Doris was born Jan. 21, 1917, in Mitchell County, the daughter of Herman and Caroline (Hartwig) Dieterich. Doris graduated from Osage High School and Mason City Junior College, and received her bachelor of science degree from Wartburg College, Waverly. She also did some graduate work at Drake University in Des Moines.
Doris married Joseph H. Hamilton in 1960. She taught in the Charles City school system for 20 years, retiring in 1977. Doris was the church organist for more than 40 years at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Osage. She taught and studied piano for many years, teaching many of those years in Mason City. She married Floyd Paulsen on Aug. 4, 1980.
In recent years Doris was the pianist and organist at Good Shepherd Health Center. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Rebekah Circle. She also was, a volunteer at Mercy Hospital Women's Auxiliary, where she was past president, and a life member of the Kinny Lindstrom Pioneer Museum.
Doris is survived by two nieces, Elizabeth Payne, of Plymouth, Minn., and Helen Hansen, of Aurora, Colo.; a nephew, James McClain and his wife, Pat, of Seattle, Wash.; special step-granddaughter, Sally Jo Bernard, of Chelmsford, Mass.; four great nieces, Julia Komanecky, Angela Schott, Jamie McClain and Sherry McClain; and special friend, Paula Warren and her husband, Scott, of Mason City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Joseph and Floyd; one brother, Victor; and two sisters, Flora McClain and Eleanor Payne.
GARNET L. PICKARD
MASON CITY - Garnet L. Pickard, 78, of 630 Briarstone Dr., Unit No. 203, died Wednesday (Oct. 13, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Leonard Root officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery , Algona.
Memorials may be directed to the Garnet L. Pickard Memorial Fund.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home and Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, and one hour before service time at the church Saturday.
Garnet was born Sept. 21, 1921, in Algona, the son of T. R. and Anna Mae (Robinson) Pickard. He attended rural schools and graduated from Algona High School in 1939.
He farmed with his father. He was married to Florence Phillips in Algona on Oct. 1, 1944, and they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on Oct. 1.
They farmed in the Algona area and lived in Des Moines for two years. They moved to Mason City in 1953 when Garnet went to work for Allied Mills, which later became Continental Grain. He retired in 1983. For the past six years, he drove for Sedars Auto Park delivering cars to various dealers around the country.
Garnet enjoyed dancing to big band music. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Garnet is survived by his wife, Florence Pickard, Mason City; two daughters, Mary Ann Campbell, Minneapolis, and Patti Ferin, Ankeny; five grandchildren, Steven and Scott Bond, Minneapolis, and Ashley, Lindsey and Whitney Ferin, all of Ankeny; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Zachary and Jacob Bond, Minneapolis.
