Lillian Shimek
Funeral services for Lillian Shimek of Cresco were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 7 at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes.
Rev. Roger R. Rethamel and Rev. Robert J. Ament officiated. Interment was in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery
in Lourdes. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Lillian, 91, died Sunday, February 4, 2001 at her home.
Lillian Rose Shimek was born January 4, 1910 in Paris Township, Howard County, the daughter of John F. and Anna S. (Kubicek) Drtina.
On September 20, 1932 she married Adolph Shimek at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. They settled on the family farm in 1942 and in 1997 they moved into Cresco.
Survivors include one daughter: Marie Hubka of Cresco; one grandson; and one brother: Arthur of Marion.
Lillian was preceded in death by her husband in 1998; her parents; two brothers: George F. and Frank; and four sisters: Grace Bagan, Helen Shimek, Irene Hyberger, and Marie Copeman.
Agnes Lechtenberg
Funeral services for Agnes Lechtenberg of New Hampton were held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 19 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Hampton.
The Rev. Carl Schmitt officiated. Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery . The pall was placed on the casket by her daughters: Darlene Aegerter and Alice Pomplun. Pallbearers were: Mark Lechtenberg, Pat Aegerter, Troy Lechtenberg, Travis Lechtenberg, Matt Lechtenberg, Jason Eichenberger, Derek Lechtenberg and Scott Lechtenberg. Hugeback Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Agnes, 91, died Sunday, April 15, 2001 at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of natural causes.
Agnes P. Lechtenberg was born June 22, 1909 in St. Lucas the daughter of Chris and Rose (Franzen) Schwamman. She attended St. Luke's School in St. Lucas.
On February 15, 1938 she married Anton Lechtenberg at St. Lukes Catholic Church. The couple lived a brief time near Roseville and then moved to their farm northwest of New Hampton. In 1984, Agnes moved to her current home. She spent a brief time in the nursing home.
Memberships include St. Mary's Church, Rosary Society and Choir. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, word puzzles, reading, gardening and flowers.
Survivors include five sons: Delbert of New Hampton, Kenneth of North Washington, Richard of New Hampton, Dale of New Hampton and Dennis of North Washington; two daughters: Darlene Aegerter of New Hampton and Alice Pomplun of Warroad, MN; 29 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a sister: Anastasia Holder of Waucoma.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband Anton on December 6, 1982; her parents; three sisters; and five brothers.
Ronald Wentworth
Funeral services for Ronald Wentworth of Cresco were held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 24 at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco.
Rev. Albert Snyder officiated. Interment was in New Oregon Cemetery
at Cresco.
Ronald, 63, died Tuesday, August 21, 2001 at Regional Health Services of Howard County.
Ronald Duane Wentworth was born December 13, 1937 in Cresco, the son of Robert R. and Marvel G. (Wheeler) Wentworth.
On February 21, 1963 he married Marlene Wallace.
He is survived by his wife Marlene; four children: Rhonda Andrews of Cleburne, TX, Ron Jr. of Calmar; Bill of Cresco, and Dean of Cresco; nine grandchildren; his mother: Marvel of Cresco; and two sisters: Marilyn Thoemke of Cottage Grove, MN and Luanne Peterson of Harmony, MN.
Ronald was preceded in death by his father; and brother: Robert Jr. Wentworth.
Marcia Howell
A memorial service for Marcia Howell of Las Vegas, NV were held on Friday, March 15 in the Davis Funeral Home, Las Vegas.
Interment was in Paradise Memorial Cemetery
in Las Vegas.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton with Pastor David Bergstrom and Pastor Kevin Frey officiating. Hugeback Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Marcia, 48, died Sunday, March 10, 2002 at her home of breast cancer.
Marcia Lynn Howell was born March 15, 1953 in New Hampton, the daughter of Reuben and Vernice (Engle) Svendsen. She attended Lawler Public School grades K-3 and Turkey Valley Community School grades 4-12. Marcia was a graduate of Turkey Valley High School in 1971. She then attended and graduated from NIACC in Mason City in 1973. She then moved to Las Vegas.
On December 25, 1980 she married Robert D. Howell. The couple owned and operated several companies. Marcia was vice-president of Action Towig, Inc. of Las Vegas.
She is survived by her husband Robert of Las Vegas; three sons: John, Kristopher, and Bobby, all of Las Vegas; her mother: Vernice Svendsen of Lawler; three sisters: Dianne Blazek of Lawler, Beverly Frey of Mason City, and Mary Ann Esquivel of Las Vegas; and one brother: LeAllyn of Steamboat Springs, CO.
Marcia was preceded in death by her father Reuben on December 24, 1989; and her grandparents.
Thelma Newell
Funeral services for Thelma "Ole" Newell were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 5 at Hugeback Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Frey officiating.
Private family interment will occur at a later date. Honorary pallbearers were: Bob Plagge, Bob and Ruth Kneip, Rich and Nancy Bahr, Dave Van Oort, Leon Hugeback, Jack Gorman, Jan Burgart, and Darlene McGowan.
Thelma, 82, died Friday, May 2, 2003 at the New Hampton Care Center.
Thelma Newell was born December 6, 1920 in Duluth, MN, the daughter of Andrew and Sally Olson. She was confirmed at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Minneapolis in 1935. She graduated from Roosevelt High in Minneapolis in 1938.
She married William T. Newell in Slayton, MN in 1943. Their two children were born and raised in Slayton. They lived a brief time in Jackson, MN, New Ulm, MN Grand Island, NE, Wilmar, MN, LaMars, and finally to New Hampton in 1981.
She is survived by one son: Kirk Lee of Lincoln, NE; one daughter: Kim of Blaine, WA; and two grandchildren.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband William on November 9, 1992; and two brothers: Archie and Rubin.
Alice Buchanan
Commital Services for Alice Buchanan of Darlington, WI, formerly of Cresco and Warren, IL will be held today, Wednesday, September 13, at New Oregon Cemetery
in Cresco.

Alice, 72, died Sunday, September 10, 2000 at the Darlington Manor Nursing Home
Alice J. Buchanan was born April 22, 1928 in War, WV, the daughter of Wallace and Alice Lee (Krieb) Fletcher.
On December 9, 1946 she married Tarncy G. Buchanan Sr. They owned and operated the Stagecoach Inn in Nora, IL and the Driftwood Cafe in Warren, IL.
Alice was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary in Cresco. She was a member of the Church of God in Warren and Cresco.
Survivors include three daughters: Missuria Fox of Warren, IL, Cynthia Ducak of Gurnee, IL, and Donna Ernst of Marcus; two sons: Tarncy G. Jr. of Johsburg, IL and F. Arnold of Deerfield, IL; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Lucy McNeely of Cincinnati, OH and Berthie Hood of Blue Field, WV; and two brothers: James of Cresco and Robert of Blue Field, WV.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband Tarncy; one son: Eddie; three grandsons; her parents; one sister: Helen Cleary; and one brother: John.
Melvin Kacher
Funeral services for Melvin 'Mel' Kacher of Fort Atkinson were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 13 at St. John's Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson.
Rev. Robert Ament and Rev. Marvin Salz officiated. Interment was in St. John's Catholic Cemetery
in Fort Atkinson. Pallbearers were: Angie Metz, Chris Jerabek, Kiley Kacher, Scott Bullerman, Lisa Jerabek, and Brandon Kacher. Chekal Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Melvin, 77, died suddenly on Saturday, February 10, 2001 at his home near Fort Atkinson.
Melvin Francis Kacher was born November 24, 1923 the son of Frank and Mayme (Jirak) Kacher. he attended country school near Fort Atkinson, St. John's Catholic School and graduated from Fort Atkinson High School in 1940. After high school he helped his parents on the farm.
On August 20, 1947 he married Alice Mihm at St. Luke's Cathlic Church in St. Lucas. They lived near St. Lucas for six years, and then moved to the Kacher farm west of Fort Atkinson.
Melvin sold silos, silo equipment and DeKalb seed corn.
He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, the Foresters, South Winn Country Club and president of Senior Housing in Fort Atkinson.
Survivors include his wife Alice of Fort Atkinson; two daughters: Cheri Selke of Rochester, MN and Kris Gjevre of Atlanta, GA; two sons: Tom of Decorah and Robert of West Des Moines; nine grandchildren; and one sister: Irene Shores of Protivin.
Melvin was preceded in death by one grandson; his parents; and one infant brother: Joseph.
Dorothy Groenwald
Funeral services for Dorothy Groenwald were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 19 at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Lime Springs.
The Rev. Linda Johnson officiated. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Dorothy, 87, died Saturday, April 14, 2001 at her home.
Dorothy Groenwald was born August 6, 1913 the daughter of Wilbur and Diana (Harris) Brynes of Reinbeck. She graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1930.
On February 18, 1931 she married Harold W. Groenwald in New Ulm, MN. She and Harold moved to Lime Springs in 1951. Dorothy was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband Harold; one son: Robert of Bear Lake, MI; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; three brothers: Wendell of Grundy Center, Edwin of Devils Lake, ND, and Lawrence of Waterloo; and a sister: Faye Benway of Littleton, CO.
Dorothy was preceded in death by one great-grandchild; her parents, three brothers: Theodore, Harris and George; and one sister: Florence Viken.
