Doris Thuman

Doris Thuman, age 76, of Clarinda, Ia, died early Saturday morning, August 2, 2003 at Westridge Quality Care & Rehab Center in Clarinda.

She was born July 5, 1927 in Page County, Iowa, the daughter of James and Alma (Fisher) Goodwin. She attended Villisca schools and on December 17, 1943 she was united in marriage to Leo Thuman in Shenandoah, Iowa. The couple had lived south of Stanton until their health declined and they moved to Clarinda. Doris was a housewife and raised three children: Jim, Carroll, and Mary. She was a member of St. Clare Catholic Church in Clarinda.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leo on July 31, 2000; and a sister, Mildred McConkey. Survivors include her three children: Jim Thuman and his wife Marilyn of Clarinda, Iowa; Carroll Thuman and his wife Joan of Stanton, Iowa; Mary L. Jones of Malvern, Iowa; four grandchildren: Angela and Ashley Thuman; Sandra Vrbsky, and Tammy Jones; four great grandchildren: Amber and Matthew Vrbsky; Kimberly and Miranda Jones; sister, Lois Ewing and her husband Charles of Glenwood, Iowa; and a brother, Arthur Goodwin of Hastings, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, August 4, 2003 at St. Clare Catholic Church in Clarinda with Father Thomas Coenen officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery , Corning, Iowa.

Memorials are suggested to St. Clare Catholic Church in Clarinda. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel in Clarinda was in charge of arrangements.

Lamont Raymond Wallin

Born January 9, 1943 Clarinda, Iowa. Entered Into Rest July 30, 2003 Montgomery County, Iowa

Funeral Services Held Friday, August 1, 2003 at 2:00 P.M., Mamrelund Lutheran Church, Stanton, Iowa

Son of Raymond E. and Ruth E. (Sunderman), Lamont Wallin, was born January 9, 1943 in Clarinda, Iowa. He died suddenly on Wednesday, July 30, 2003 in Montgomery County, Iowa south of Stanton at the age of 60 years, 6 months and 22 days. Lamont was raised in Stanton and graduated from Stanton High School in 1960. He attended C.E. School of Commerce in Omaha, Nebraska. He served his country during Vietnam in the United States Army. Lamont later graduated from University of Nebraska at Omaha with a degree in Accounting and became a Certified Public Accountant. Lamont was united in marriage to Suzanne Purvis on February 24, 1982. Lamont was the General Manager for Kutak-Rock Law Firm in Omaha, Nebraska for many years. After his retirement from Kutak-Rock Law Firm he continued to farm and raise cattle, and was known as "The French Farmer". He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa and most recently attended Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton. He was also a member of the American Legion Ernie Johnson Post #406 in Stanton.

He was preceded in death by his Father. Lamont is survived by three daughters; Sara, Sandra and Samantha all of Council Bluffs, Iowa, his mother, Mrs. Ruth Wallin of Stanton, Iowa, two sisters; Janet Dinville and husband Duane of Stanton, Iowa and Jeanie Fritscher and husband Eugene of Stanton, Iowa, a nephew, Matthew and wife Amy of Grimes, Iowa, a niece, Andrea and husband Scott of Omaha, Nebraska, a special friend, Marilyn Mickey of Carson, Iowa, other relatives and a host of friends. May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn.

Memorials to Mamrelund Lutheran Church or Stanton High School Class of 1960 Scholarship fund.

Phyllis Ilene Weaver

Funeral services for Phyllis Ilene Weaver of Villisca, IA were held Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca. Burial was in the Villisca Cemetery . Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca was in charge of arrangements.

Phyllis Ilene Weaver was born January 7, 1936 in Shenandoah, IA, the daughter of Paul and Anetta (Babcock) Delehant, and died July 4, 2003 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, IA.

Phyllis had graduated from Shenandoah High School. She had worked for the Holiday Inn in Red Oak, Uniroyal in Red Oak for five years and Circle J for two years. Phyllis retired in 1992.

She enjoyed doing puzzles and was a member of the Sunshine Girls coffee club.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Norma Smith.

Phyllis is survived by her children: Candi Fast of Aurora, CO; Rick Weaver and Mary Garey, Teena Weaver and Mike Mackey of Villisca; and Randy Weaver and wife Tammy of Farragut, IA; nine grandchildren; brothers, Virgil Delehant and wife Beverly of Shenandoah; Harold Delehant of California; Doris Rupple and Skip of Washington; Sonda Kugler and husband Leon of Omaha, NE; Donna Engeke and husband Ted of Wisconsin; Sharon Hiser and husband Gary of Shenandoah; Angie Hamilton and husband Boyd of Dubuque, IA.

A memorial is being established.

Don Devine

Funeral services for Don Devine of Villisca, IA will be held Thursday, July 17, 2003 at the Prescott United Church in Prescott, IA. Burial will be in the Arlington Cemetery near Villisca. Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca was in charge of arrangements.

Don Devine was born July 5, 1943, in Red Oak, IA, the son of Clark Truman and Esther Delores (Anderson) Devine, and died at his home in Villisca Sunday, July 13, 2003.

Don was a 1961 graduate of Villisca High School. He received his associates degree from Southwestern in Red Oak.

He married Sharon Chilcott May 27, 1967 in Prescott. Sharon died May 8, 1991.

Don was currently working for Romech in Red Oak. He had worked there for the past 29 years. He was a member of the Adams County Genealogical Society, and was currently serving as President. He was also a member of the Prescott United Church. Don enjoyed time with his grandchildren. His hobbies were reading, collecting comic gbooks, tractors, bells, and shot glasses.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Don is survived by his sons: James Devine and wife Tonya of Underwood, IA and David Devine of Villisca; grandchildren: Carabeth Devine, Nickolas, and Michael Rhodes, and Jessica Devine.

A memorial is being established.

Mitchel Ray Jergenson

Funeral services for Mitchel Ray Jergenson of Villisca were held Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca with Rev. Sarah Walker officiating. Burial was in the Strand Cemetery at Strand, IA. Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca was in charge of arrangements.

Mitchel Ray Jergenson was born October 9, 1959 in Red Oak, IA, the son of LaDean and Donna (Sperry) Jergenson, and died Saturday, June 28, 2003.

Mitch was a 1978 graduate of Villisca High School. He also attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville, IA. He married Lori Himes on April 19, 1991, in Fremont, NE. To this union two sons were born, Christopher and Matthew. They moved to Villisca in September of 2001 from Hamburg, IA.

Mitch had been an arena manager for the Hitchcock Park Ice Arena in Omaha, NE. His hobbies were hunting and fishing.

Mitch was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Jergenson on May 5, 2001; and his sister, Ann Bozwell.

He is survived by his wife Lori of Villisca; sons Christopher and Matthew; his father, LaDean Jergenson of Villisca; sister, LaDona Jergenson of Audubon, IA; brother, Mike Jergenson of Villisca; uncle, Harley Sperry of Villisca; aunt Jo Sperry of Omaha, NE; and niece, Marti Gray and husband Bob of Corning, IA.

A memorial is being established.

Blanche A. Nippert

Blanche A. Nippert, age 87, of Villisca, Iowa passed away Saturday, July 5, 2003 at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center after an extended illness. Blanche A. Nippert was born March 31, 1916 at her parents home in Waterloo, Iowa the daughter of John and Catherine (Morgenstern) Brown. The family moved to Davenport, NE when Blanche was 3 years old. She was baptized into the Christian faith at an early age. She attended rural school district 65, and graduated from the Davenport High School. She was united in marriage to Howard Nippert on February 14, 1935 in Davenport, NE. To this union were born Duane and LaVera. In 1942, they moved to a farm in rural Villisca, IA. Blanche has been a resident of the Villisca Good Samaritan Center for the past year.

Blanche and Howard like to fish and took many fishing trips. In later years she traveled all over the United States. Blanche liked quilting, knitting, crocheting, and tatting. She also enjoyed gardening and her many flowers. She was a member of many neighborhood clubs, the Morton's Mill Church, and the Morton's Mill Ladies Aid.

Preceding Blanche in death were her parents; her husband, Howard Nippert on October 18, 1980; half-sister Evelyn Lambert and her husband Milton; 2 sisters, Alma Lautenshlager and her husband George and Effie Mae Osborne and her husband Earl; brother Charles Brown; and a son-in-law, Emory Bridgeford.

Survivors include her son, Duane Nippert and his wife Jeanie of Villisca, IA; daughter LaVera Bridgeford of Fillmore, MO; 5 grandchildren, Bruce Hattig and his wife Jan of St. Joseph, MO; Myron Hattig and his wife Jaylene of Portland, OR; Donald Nippert and his wife Chris of Villisca, IA; Colleen Hattig Deunow and her husband Dennis of Springfield, MO; and RoseAnna Nippert Heinrich and her husband David of New Berlin, WI; 9 great grandchildren; 2 step-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at the Morton's Mill Church in Morton's Mill, IA with Rev. Clarence Landis officiating. Burial will be in the Morton's Mill Cemetery . Visitation with the family will be held from 7 - 8 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2003 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak.

John Delaine Fredell

Age 68 of rural Villisca, IA

John Delaine Fredell, the son of Lester and Gladys (Dobbs) Fredell, was born April 22, 1936 in Pilot Grove Township of Montgomery County, Iowa. He died suddenly at his home on July 29, 2004 at the age of 68 years.

Delaine was raised in the Pilot Grove area and had lived his entire life in Montgomery County, Iowa. He farmed and worked on several outside jobs. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and loved his animals and pets. Delaine was preceded in death by his parents.

Delaine is survived his children; Wesley Fredell and wife Sally of Indianapolis, Indiana, Denise Evans and husband Mark of Omaha, Nebraska and Merry Hadfield and husband Rick of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; 2 grandchildren, Jeremy and Brian Hadfield; a sister, Carolyn Whitehead of Red Oak, Iowa, other relatives and friends..

Mr. Fredell was cremated and a Private family service will be held.

Memorials may be sent to North Shore Animal League at 750 Port Washington Blvd, Port Washington, NY 11050 in his name

Vendell Ossian

Funeral services for VenDell Ossian of Stanton, IA, were held Saturday, August 7, 2004, at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton, with the Rev. Dr. George Hooper officiating. Burial was at the Mamre Cemetery . Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Vendell F. E. Ossian, was born April 15, 1911, the son of Luther and Anna (Anderson) Ossian in Stanton, and died Wednesday, August 4, 2004, at the Stanton Care Center.

Vendell was raised and lived his entire life in the Stanton Community. He worked several years at Schenck's Grocery in Stanton. Vendell was active in the Stanton community, attending as many community and school events as possible. In 1993 Vendell became a resident of the Stanton Care Center. Vendell enjoyed celebrating his birthday parties at the White City Inn. He was a member of the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Desmond Ossian.

Vendell is survived by a niece, Patricia Lane and husband Ralph of Greenfield, IA, and two nephews, Darwin Ossian and wife Frankie of Jasper, AL, and David Ossian and wife Lucy of Creston, IA, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins, along with a host of friends.

Memorials may be made to Mamrelund Lutheran Church or Stanton Care Center.

EDITH FRANCES ANDERSON

Graveside services for Edith Frances Anderson of Villisca, IA were held Friday, July 30, 2004 at the Arlington Cemetery near Villisca with Rev. Chris Hall officiating.

Edith Frances Anderson was born November 3, 1908 in Lark, ND, the daughter of Edward and Alice (Whan) Noble, and died Sunday, July 25, 2004 at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center where she had been a resident since 2002.

Edith graduated from Villisca High School in 1926. She married Joseph Leroy Anderson September 1, 1926. He preceded her in death on July 29, 1975. Edith had worked at the Newbury Department Store in Santa Ana, California until the age of 88. She moved to Villisca in the summer of 1997. Edith enjoyed spending time with her family and enjoyed sewing.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Zelda Resh.

She is survived by her daughter, Gwen Loghry of Villisca, sons: Art Anderson and wife Gwen of Bend, OR, Gary Anderson and wife Pat of Orange , CA, four grandchildren: Joanna Baker and husband Verl, Jerry Loghry, Chris Lipscomb and husband Dennis, Heather Belis and husband Tim, nine great grandchildren, nineteen great great grandchildren, and a sister/cousin Lois Frazee of Villisca.

A memorial is being established.
