GEORGE E. CLEMENT
Memorial services for George E. Clement of Versailles, MO, formerly of Jefferson City, MO, were held December 22, 2004, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses in Jefferson City with Nathan Carr officiating.
George Clement died December 18, 2004, at the Capital Region Medical Center. He was born November 24, 1927, at Mott, ND, the son of Dale and L. Ferne Rogers Clement. The family moved to the Guss, IA, area when he was small. He graduated from the Corning High School in 1946.
George was in the first draft call in Taylor County for the Korean conflict in September 1950, although he did not serve overseas. He married Norma Jane Warner on July 21, 1951 in Clarinda, IA. After returning from service, he worked for Walter Eitzen and farmed for himself for a while. He then moved to Council Bluffs, where he worked for the Omaha Transit System, and later had a sales route with Wonder Bread. He moved to Jefferson City, MO, and continued to work in sales. He owned and operated Clems Home Service for over 30 years, and was employed by Scholastic Books before retiring in May of 2004. Norma died on April 23, 1981. He married Claudia D. Johnson, on July 23, 1981, who survives at the home.
He never outgrew is love for John Deere tractors - often saying he would like one sitting in the backyard so he could crank it up and listen to it pop.
Others survivors include daughters Sandra J. Wisner of Jefferson City, MO, Diane Wells and husband Dick of Tebbitts, MO; stepdaughters Jennifer S. Dickey and husband Steve of Holts Summit, MO, and Cindy Harrison and husband Winn of Jefferson City, MO; one sister Ardyce Kane and husband William of Council Bluffs, IA; one brother Carmen Clement and wife Norma of Clarinda; nine grandchildren; three great grand children and numerous nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Dean of Cedar Rapids, IA; Glen of Racine, WI; and sister Beunah Powell of Peoria, IL.
ARLENE JONES
Funeral services for Arlene Jones of Red Oak, IA, were held February 14, 2005, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor David MacDonald officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery.
Arlene Jones died 10, 2005 at her residence. Geneva "Arlene" Jones was born January 1, 1926 in Villisca, IA, the daughter of Frank and Hattie (King) Patterson. She graduated from Villisca High School in 1943 and was united in marriage to Jack W. M. Jones on April 12, 1943 in Omaha, NE. They lived their entire married life in Red Oak. Arlene retired in 1986 from the Union Carbide Company after 25 years of service She was a member of the Red Oak Eagles Lodge, the REAC, and the Classy Cats at Union Carbide.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack Jones on August 13, 1988; granddaughter, Jennifer Renee Hoover; two infant sisters Lois and Maryland Patterson; three sisters, Grace Finkle, Ada Joyce White and Fay "Sis" Sheard; two brothers Harold Patterson and Jay "Buddy" Patterson.
She is survived by her children Harold Jones and wife Merlene of Beaver Lake, NE, Jackie Hoover and husband Sam of Adair, IA, Marlene Skalberg and husband Larry of Emerson, IA, Denny Jones and wife Karen of Red Oak, IA, and Kelvin Jones and fiancé Robin Strand of Red Oak, IA; 18 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; two sisters Ruby "Babe" Cromley of Bellevue and Dorothy Fuls of Spring Dale, AR; four sisters-in-law Louise Jones of Red Oak, IA, Bonnie Abbott of Emerson, IA, Linda Patterson of Pacific Junction, IA, and Suzi Dozier of Buffalo, MO; two brothers-in-law Wally and Junior Jones both of Red Oak, IA; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

RICHARD LEE MARSH
Memorial services for Richard Lee Marsh, Villisca, IA, were held February 3, 2005, at the Advent Christian Church in Villisca with burial in the Villisca Cemetery.
Richard died Sunday, January 30, 2005, at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, NE. Richard was born February 27, 1935, in Villisca, the son of Orville and Reva (Hayes) Marsh.
Richard was a 1953 graduated of the Villisca Schools. He married Anna (Kathryn) Stille on December 1, 1954, in Villisca, Iowa. To this union six children were born: Connie, Tony, Donald, Jeffrey, Kent and Scott.
Richard had worked for CDS in Red Oak for three years before retiring in March of 2001. Richard and Kathryn lived in Stanton for six years before moving to Villisca in September of 2004. He had served in the Iowa National Guard for over twenty-one years. Richard was a member of the American Legion Ker-A-Vor Post 251 in Villisca and a member of the Advent Christian Church, where he helped with the children's ministry at the Advent Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his father and one grandson Andrew Muller.
Richard is survived by his wife Kathryn of Villisca; children, Connie Muller and husband Jim of Villisca, Tony Marsh and wife Mary of Lincoln, NE, Donald Marsh and wife Paulette of Shenandoah, IA, Jeffrey Marsh and wife Bernice of Beaver Dam, VA, Kent Marsh of Vacaville, CA and Scott Marsh of Villisca; mother, Reva Marsh of Villisca, brothers Allen Marsh and wife Jane of Omaha, NE, and Larry Marsh and wife Shelley of Omaha, NE, and six grandchildren. plus many nieces, nephews and friends.

DENNIS C. LARSON
Funeral services for Dennis Carl Larson of Villisca, IA, were held January 31, 2005 at the Tabor Lutheran Church in rural Stanton, with Pastor Harold Peterson officiating. Burial was at the Mamre Cemetery
in Stanton.
Dennis died January 27, 2005, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, IA. He was born July 19, 1920, in Montgomery County, IA, to Leonard G. Larson and Hilda (Swanson) Larson.
He was a lifelong farmer and also raised registered Hereford cattle and Duroc hogs. He was a member of the Tabor Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Weldon Larson; brothers-in-law, William Findley and Don Robinson and nephew Larry Robinson.
Survivors include his sisters, Myrtle Larson, Minnie Findley, Irene Robinson, all of Villisca; special friend, Deloris Weaver of Grant, IA; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial is being established. Wolfe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
DIXIE A. LAIRE
Memorial services for Dixie A. Laire of Red Oak, IA, will be held February 5, 2004, at the Sellergren -Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in Red Oak, with Pastor Zach Lovig officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
Dixie Arlene Laire, the daughter of Mervin and Helen (Miller) Laire, was born December 11, 1957 in Corning, Iowa. She died on Saturday, January 29, 2005 at her home in Red Oak.
Dixie spent her childhood on a farm east of Sciola, north of Villisca. She graduated from Villisca Community High School in l975 and attended Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny, IA. Dixie lived a few years in Ottumwa, IA, Macon, MO and Pella, IA, before relocating to Red Oak in l987.
Dixie had a passion for genealogy. She researched extensively and shared - contributing to the historical background of the Tefft Ferry House, Elliott, IA, and to the collections of Montgomery County Historical Society.
Dixie was preceded in death by her father, Mervin Laire in 1994; her mother Helen (Miller) Laire in l967; and her grandparents, Harry and Essie (Wilson) Laire and William H. and Violet (Johannes) Miller.
Dixie is survived by a brother, Steven Laire and his wife Rita of Omaha, NE; a niece, Wendy (Laire) and husband Tommy Dunkin and Dawson and Delaney of Excelsior Springs, MO; two nephews, SSG Steven Laire and wife Cindi, Autumn and Rebecca of Dixon, MO and Joshua Laire and wife Tatum and Kindyl, Kinzie, Kalyn and Keyton of Excelsior Springs, MO. Other survivors include numerous cousins and her aunts and uncles; Margaret and Newell Laire of Stennett, IA, Awanda Woods of Red Oak, IA, Jean and Bill Miller of Wimberly, TX and JoAnn Miller of Villisca, IA.

HILTON LEON GRIMES
Funeral services for Hilton Leon Grimes of Villisca, IA, were held January 25, 2004, at the Advent Christian Church in Villisca. Burial was at the Butler Cemetery
near Shambaugh, IA
Hilton Leon Grimes was born February 22, 1918 at Bend, OR, the son of Harry and Pansy (Howard) Grimes. He died at his home Friday, January 21, 2005, in Villisca, IA.
Hilton moved to Iowa when he was six years old. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a Sergeant and served in Europe with the medics. Hilton was a member of the V.F.W. Post 8998 in Villisca. He was a member of the Advent Christian Church and was a deacon for many years.
Hilton married Margaret (Phipps) Taylor, January 2, 1973, in Miami, OK. They lived in Harlan, IA from 1973 until 1989 when they moved to Villisca.
Hilton was a builder and carpenter all of his life. He made the plans for the Advent Christian Church after the old Church burned on Christmas Eve. He dearly loved the church and congregation.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Maxine Wilwerding.
Hilton is survived by his wife Margaret of Villisca, sons David Grimes and wife Sharon of Pensacola, FL, Marty Grimes and wife Teresa of Clarinda, IA; step sons John Alan Taylor of the home, Donald Taylor of Hepburn, IA; daughters Diana Turner and husband Vaughn of Eyota, MN, Patty Barker of MO; step daughters Linda Wymore and husband Jim of New Market, IA, Judy Sunderman and husband Dennis of Clarinda, IA, Patty Ferguson and friend Ed Grimit of Clarinda, IA, nineteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, plus many other relatives and friends.

JUNE HARRIETTE HOLT OSHEL
Funeral services for June Harriette Holt Oshel, Clive, IA, were held December 28, 2004, at Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines. Rev. Ken Arentsen officiated. Burial was later that day in the family plot at Graceland Cemetery
in Creston.
June died December 23, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, IA, after suffering a fall on December 21, 2004 on ice at the entrance to her doctor's office, resulting in a broken hip and her subsequent death.
She was born in Montgomery County near Villisca, IA, on June 18, 1913 to Dot (Higgins) Holt and Grover Cleveland Holt. Her siblings were Martha, James, Bobby and Kathleen.
She was at the top of her Class of 1930 at Villisca High School. She went to Creston to work in 1930 and met Earl L. "Bud" Oshel. They married on April 14, 1935. Their daughter, Sandra, was born there in December of 1936 - a year with both the hottest summer and coldest winters on record to that time.
Bud was with General Mills, Inc. for his entire career and following his retirement, they returned to the Des Moines area in 1969. June was a devoted and loving wife and mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was truly a professional homemaker who had no peer. She enjoyed reading, and keeping correspondence with her family and friends. Always active in the community, she was a member of PEO Chapter HX in Des Moines, served as Chairman of the local Election Board for many years and was a faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and Naomi Circle.
June is survived by her daughter, Sandra June and her husband, Dr. James O. Whittaker of Camp Hill, PA; grandchildren James O. Whittaker II of Hollidaysburg, PA and Dr. Kellie Lynn Whittaker and her husband, William Wright Fisher and their daughter and their daughter, Lauren Jannali Fisher of Berkeley, CA (June's only great-grandchild) of Berkeley, CA; a sister, Martha Craven of Des Moines; and a sister-in-law, Harriett Oshel of Creston, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins and innumerable friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, James and Bobby and baby sister Kathleen and her husband, Earl L."Bud" Oshel.

LORI SHRIMPTON GATEWOOD
Graveside memorial services fro Lois Shrimpton Gatewood of Dresden, TN, will be held at a later date.
Lois died in her home on January 15, 2005. She was born March 13, 1935, in Villisca, IA, the daughter of Roswell Ralph Shrimpton and Martha Ann (Rhoades) Shrimpton.
Lois married Harol Gatewood on June 15, 1955 in Papillion, NE.
Lois had attended the Villisca High School. She had worked at Union Carbide in Red Oak for many years and Safeway in Omaha, NE, and Clinton, OK, for over thirty years. She retired in 1996.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Wayne and Leo Shrimpton.
She is survived by her husband Harold of Dresden, TN; children Marcia Duel and husband Bob of Council Bluffs, IA, Terri Best and husband Owen of Omaha, NE, Tommy Baldwin of Nodaway, IA, Debbie Becker and husband of Marion, IA; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; two sisters Norma Scanlan and husband Don of Nodaway, IA, and Patrica Warnaca and husband Don of LaVista, NE, one sister-in-law Lavon Shrimpton of Plattsmouth, NE; plus many nieces, nephews relatives and friends.

THELMA G. ANDERSON
Graveside services for Thelma Glea Wheeler Anderson of Charlottesville, VA, will be held at a later date at Mamrelund Cemetery
in Stanton where her ashes will be placed next to her late husband. Mrs. Anderson died January 22, 2005, in the Colonnades Care Center in Charlottesville after a short illness.
Thelma was born August 10, 1912 near Villisca to William M. and Elva Wheeler. She was educated in rural schools in the Tenville area and graduated from Villisca High School in 1930. On June 4, 1930 she married Wayne C. Anderson and they began a life on the family farm east of Stanton. She was active in Mamrelund Lutheran Church activities and was a longtime 4-H leader.
In 1954 she moved with her husband to Stockholm, Sweden, where he had accepted the post of Agricultural Attache in the U.S. Embassy. In July, 1955 he was killed in an auto accident in Sweden, and she returned to make her home in Wichita, KS, where she entered the Wichita State University as a freshman and received her degree in elementary education. In 1962 she returned to Red Oak for six years was a third grade teacher at Inman Elementary School and was active in the Red Oak Chapter of BPW. She decided in 1968 to move to Northern Virginia to be closer to her son and his family and for another seven years taught in the Fairfax County, VA, school system. She retired in 1975 and devoted a lot of time to her family, traveling and teaching Sunday school. She moved to Charlottesville in 1995.
Thelma was preceded in death by her father and mother; her husband; a daughter, Chatham Hills and a granddaughter.
She is survived by her son, Bill and his wife Annette of Palmyra, VA; grandchildren Desireé Anderson, Jack Anderson, Mike Anderson and his wife Teresa, all of Northern Virginia; and Diana Hills of Medford, OR; five great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mamrelund Lutheran Elevator Fund in Stanton.
