CARBON CLIFF, Ill. -- Richard K. "Peanuts" Cashion, Carbon Cliff, died Friday, March 10, 2000, at Illini Hospital, Silvis. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery , East Moline. Visitation is 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Schroder Mortuary Inc., Silvis. Mr. Cashion was employed as a truck driver at Dohrn Transfer and Roadway. He retired in 1994 and became a truck driving instructor at Scott Community College. He was born Aug. 5, 1935, in Moline. He married Carol Cotter in 1956 in San Diego. He had served in the Navy. Memorials may be made to cancer research. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Chris Greene, Colona; sons, Dave, Colona, and Dan, San Diego; and his mother, Lola, Chicago.

Ethel Manning

DAVENPORT -- Services for Ethel E. Manning, of 1534 Rockingham Road, formerly of Rock Island, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation is one hour before the service. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park. Mrs. Manning died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at her home. She was a homemaker. Ethel Klingsmith was born Nov. 29, 1915, in Kirksville, Mo. She married Charles Manning in 1934 in Edina, Mo. He died in 1986. Survivors include daughters, Louise Manning, with whom she resided, and Charlotte Harris, Rock Island; six grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald Klingsmith, Waterloo, Iowa.

Robert Crosthwaite

LOST NATION, Iowa -- Services for Robert Crosthwaite, Lost Nation, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Lost Nation. Burial will be in Lost Nation Cemetery . Visitation is 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Hayden Funeral Home, Lost Nation. Mr. Crosthwaite died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at Jackson County Public Hospital, Maquoketa, after an extended illness. He was born March 20, 1911, near Grand Mound. He married Bertha Burzlaff in 1935 in Grand Mound. They farmed near DeWitt, Grand Mound and Lost Nation. She died in 1988. Survivors include daughters, Florence Deerberg, Lowden, Alice Mohl, Maquoketa, and Linda Earles, Port Orchard, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Kurtus Ryan Miller

KANAWHA, Iowa -- Kurtus Ryan Miller, went home to be with his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ, Monday, March 6, 2000, in an apartment fire Monday in Iowa City. Services for Kurtus will be 2 p.m. Sunday at West Hancock High School, Britt. The Rev. David Wiersbe and the Rev. Doug Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at Ewing Funeral Home, Britt, and one hour before the services Sunday at the school. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery , Britt. Kurtus was born the first of four children to Matthew and Carol (Stillwell) Miller on June 25, 1979, in Davenport. Kurtus lived nine years in Davenport before moving to Wyoming for four years, then to Kanawha, where he lived five years. He graduated from West Hancock High School, Britt, in May 1997. Kurtus was a member of the 1996 state championship football team. He then attended North Iowa Area Community College, Mason City, for two years. At the beginning of their senior year, Kurtus and Laura Goepel met. They dated for three years and on July 24, 1999, Kurtus and Laura were joined in Christian marriage at First United Methodist Church, Mason City. They moved in August 1999 to Iowa City, where Kurtus worked at MCI and HyVee South Deli, Iowa City, while attending night classes at Kirkwood Community College. Kurtus loved to spend as much time with Laura as possible. They planned trips to travel to new places to experience new things together. He has such a gentle spirit and courteous to all. Kurtus also loved being with his sisters and his nephews. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his parents; his sisters, Christena, Melissa and Sara Miller, all of New London; grandparents, Harold and Edna Stillwell, Davenport, Janet Claeys, Bettendorf, and Robert and Pam Miller, Reno, Nev.; great-grandmothers, Velma Piersall, Davenport, and Irene Epach, Marietta, Ga.; in-laws, Craig and Jean Goepel, Britt; sister-in-law, Sarah Goepel, Ames, Stacey Goepel, and his wife, Kari, and their two sons, Seth and Kolby, Britt; and grandparents-in-law, Gene and Arlene Goepel, Britt, and Lee and Tom Whitty. Belmond. Kurtus was a wonderful husband, son, brother, brother-in-law and friend to all, and will be missed greatly by family and friends. A memorial fund in Kurtus' name has been established to the glory of God.

Louis Matthys Jr.

MOLINE -- Services for Louis C. Matthys Jr., Beaver Creek, Ohio, formerly of Moline, will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, and 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. The Rev. Robert E. Lee will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation is 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with a Christian wake service at 2:30 p.m. Mr. Matthys died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at Kettering Medical Center. He retired in 1960 as a printing pressman after 31 years at the former Desaulniers Printing, Moline. He was born Nov. 20, 1911, in Moline. He married Marie J. Seidell in 1934 in Moline. She died May 20, 1979. He was a member Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. He loved his grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Robert Smith, Rock Island; a daughter, Suzanne Garcia, Beaver Creek; a granddaughter, Kimberly Garcia; grandsons, Robert and Michael Smith; and six great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Stark

DAVENPORT -- Kenneth L. Stark, Davenport, died Friday, March 10, 2000, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. The body was cremated. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Stark was employed for 18 years at Kropp Forge Co. He was born Oct. 19, 1937, in Chicago. During the Korean War, he served in the Air Force. Survivors include a son, Kenneth J. Sr.; Bettendorf; and a grandson.

Karen Brimeyer

BETTENDORF -- Services for Karen L. Brimeyer, Bettendorf, will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Bettendorf. Private family burial will be later. Visitation was 4-8 p.m. Friday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m. Karen died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn., after complications during surgery. She was employed as an office assistant at Bettendorf Medical Center. Karen Lyn Calkins was born May 15, 1960, in Davenport, to George and Harriett (Kleinow) Calkins. She married James T. Brimeyer on Feb. 26, 1983, in Davenport. She graduated from Central High School, Class of 1978. She attended Scott Community College and received an associate degree in accounting. She was a member of the church and had been a former Girl Scout leader. Family was most important in Karen's life. She enjoyed the time spent with all of her family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Karen L. Brimeyer Memorial Fund. Survivors include her husband, Jim; daughters, Amber, Alicia and Kristin, all at home; her mother, Harriett Calkins, Davenport; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dennis and Bev Calkins, Plymouth, Minn., and Gary and Nancy Calkins, Marion, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tom and Pat Brimeyer, Bettendorf; a sister-in-law, Cathy, and spouse, Rusty Spinsby, LeClaire, Iowa; and brothers-in-law, Jeff, and spouse, Lynn Brimeyer, LeClaire, and Tony, and spouse, Mona Brimeyer, Platte City, Mo. She was preceded in death by her father, George Calkins; and infant brother and sister, G. Michael Calkins and Margo Calkins. May they rest in peace.

Thomas Heinz

BETTENDORF -- Services for Thomas L. Heinz, a resident of Bettendorf Healthcare Center, formerly of Peoria, Ill., will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Peoria. Visitation is 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. Mr. Heinz died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at the care center. Wright & Salmon Mortuary Ltd., Peoria, is in charge of arrangements. He was employed as a mason contractor and bricklayer for more than 50 years in the Peoria area. He retired in 1980. He was born Feb. 8, 1907, in Dunlap, Ill. He married Pearl Heinz in 1930 in Princeton, Ill. She died Feb. 18, 2000. Memorials may be made to St. Bernard's School Foundation or Red Cross Flood Relief. Survivors include daughters, Deanne Heinz, Eagan, Minn., Carolyn Watson-Stevens and Kay Denton, both of Peoria, Jane Heinz and Connie Hildebranski, both of Bettendorf, and Ruth Sobiech, Bloomington, Minn.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Gertrude Dodd, Peoria; and brothers, Francis "Doc," Peoria, and Delmer, Kickapoo.

Patricia Wilkins

MOLINE -- Services for Patricia A. Wilkins, Moline, were 3 p.m. March 8 at First Christian Church, 3501 7th St., East Moline. Visitation was 2-3 p.m. March 8 at the church. Patricia died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at home with her children. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. She retired in September 1999 from East Moline Metal. Before that, she was employed many years at Caterpillar. She was born June 2, 1936, in Moline, to Paul and Fern (Crozer) Wilkins. Patricia was a loving mother and especially devoted to her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family and taking long walks along the Mississippi River. She was an active member of her church and loved by all who knew her. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include a daughter, Tess O'Shea, Tucson, Ariz.; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Stephanie Anderson, Colona, Ill., Donny Anderson and Susan Compton, Tucson, and Douglas and Shannon Covault, Bettendorf; grandchildren, Brendan O'Shea, Kelsey and Kassandra Anderson, Emma Covault and Christopher Bozeman; a sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Philip Heden, Bettendorf; and a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Patricia Wilkins, Davenport. She was preceded in death by her parents. She will be missed and in our hearts forever.

David Saunders

EAST MOLINE -- Services for David J. Saunders, Oxnard, Calif., formerly of East Moline, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Mount Zion Baptist Church, East Moline. Visitation is one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Hampton (Ill.) Cemetery . Mr. Saunders died Monday, March 6, 2000, at his home. Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary Ltd., East Moline, is in charge of arrangements. He retired in 1972 after 20 years as a laborer at John Deere Harvester, East Moline. He was born July 5, 1911, in Lockport, Ill. He married Betty Rolls in 1967 in East Moline. She died in October 1999. Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include a daughter, Patsy Gavin, Oxnard; several grandchildren; and sisters, Mabel Saunders and Beatrice Mason, and a brother, Thomas, all of Joliet, Ill.

Lorraine Weston

ALBIA, Iowa -- Services for Lorraine Weston, Albia, will be 10:30 a.m. today at Winfield Funeral Home, Albia. Burial will be in Oakview Cemetery , Albia. Mrs. Weston died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at her home. She was a homemaker. Lorraine Golden was born July 4, 1922, in Albia. She married Everett "Jiggs" Weston in 1941 in Oskaloosa. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Monroe County. Survivors include her husband; daughters, Rachael Wells, Oskaloosa, Georgia Wilson, Springfield, Ohio, and Becky Jackson, Fairborn, Ohio; a son, Willie, Columbus Junction; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and sisters, Wanda Vaal, Ottumwa, and Loweta Glenn, Albia.

Wyla Fischer

ELIZABETH, Ill. -- Services for Wyla A. Fischer, Elizabeth, will be 1:30 p.m. today at the Church of St. Mary, Elizabeth. No visitation will be held. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Fischer died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at Mercy Health Center, Dubuque, Iowa. She had worked at Savanna Army Depot and the U.S. Postal Service, Elizabeth, and for state of Illinois. She was employed as a secretary at Fischer's Plumbing and Heating. She was born Nov. 8, 1926, in Mount Hope, Wis. She married Donald Fischer in 1947 in Elizabeth. Survivors include her husband; daughters, Joanne Haas, Savanna, and Randy Miller, Silvis; a son, Steve, Chicago; and a grandson.

Joyce Pobanz

CAMBRIDGE, Ill. -- Services for Joyce L. Pobanz, Cambridge, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Cambridge. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery , Cambridge. Visitation is 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. at the church. A family prayer service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Cambridge. Mrs. Pobanz died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo. She was a registered nurse. She taught five years at St. Anthony's Hospital, Rock Island, and worked more than 25 years at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo. She also worked at Franciscan Hospital, Rock Island, for three years, and did home health nursing until 1998 through Hammond-Henry Hospital. Joyce DeSutter was born Oct. 10, 1932, in Atkinson Township, Henry County. She married Sidney Pobanz in 1956 in Geneseo. Memorials may be made to Cambridge Ambulance Service or the church. Survivors include her husband; daughters, Michelle LaBelle, Woodstock, and Katherine Fellhauer, Jacksonville; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marlene DePauw, Moline.

Barbara Zelnio

MOLINE -- Services for Barbara A. Zelnio, Moline, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd., Moline. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Mrs. Zelnio died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. Barbara Halene was born May 5, 1926, in Moline. She married Witold Zelnio in 1963 in Chicago. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Sandy Zurga, Moline; sons, Robert Covemaker, Moline, and Michael Covemaker, Sunnyhill, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
