Destiny J. Rivas

Destiny Rivas, age 6, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Saturday, December 22, 2007 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 28, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Monday, December 24, 2007 and again on Wednesday, December 26th from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Visitation will continue on Thursday, December 27th from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. at the funeral home, where a vigil and rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m.

Destiny Jezebel Rivas was born May 30, 2001 in Storm Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Nancy Rivas. Destiny, a first grade student at South School in Storm Lake, liked to read and color. She enjoyed dancing and being able to dress up. She loved to play with her sister and her friends. She will be remembered as a happy child and will be dearly missed by her family.

Left to cherish her memory are her mother and fiance, Nancy Rivas and Omar Ocegueda; one sister, Kimberly; maternal grandparents, Nelson and Maria Rivas; paternal grandparents, Arturo and Esther Ocegueda; aunts Kelly Rivas and Karina Ocegueda; uncle Eric Ocegueda; extended family and many friends.

May God bless the memory of Destiny Rivas.

Ellsworth E. Jeppeson, Sr.

Ellsworth E. Jeppeson, Sr., age 87, of Newell, Iowa, died Monday, December 31, 2007 in Newell.

Memorial Services for Mr. Jeppeson are scheduled for Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Congregational Church in Newell. Burial will be in the Newell Cemetery will Full Military Rites by the Newell American Legion. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Thursday, January 3, 2008 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. for visitation at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell, where the family will be present.

Ellsworth Evans Jeppeson, Sr. was born December 12, 1920 to Margaret Evans and Daniel Ellsworth Jeppeson at Sioux Rapids, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at the First United Church of Sioux Rapids. He transferred his church membership to the Congregational Church in Newell in March of 1959. He attended school at Cornell and Linn Grove, Iowa and graduated in 1938 from High View Consolidated school in rural Linn Grove.

During World War II, Ellsworth was proud to serve his country in the United States Army. He was stationed in Korea in the 7th Division, 32nd Army Infantry until he received his honorable discharge.

On November 26, 1948, Ellsworth was united in marriage to Wanda Williamson of Battle Creek, Iowa. To this union five children were born: Florene, Ellsworth, Sylvia, Lynn and Elwyn.

Ellsworth was a skillful, honest and faithful hard worker. He loved his family. He helped his father farm on the home place south of Linn Grove for many years. After he was married, he worked for Paul Park Construction in Storm Lake, Iowa. There he helped build many homes at Lake Creek and in Storm Lake, the Buena Vista County Hospital, a school in Lake View, the Safeway Store, Duglosh Garage, the Kolb water fountain in Sunrise Park on Storm Lake’s shore, the Truesdale gym, and the tree and flower boxes up and down Lake Avenue in Storm Lake. He helped remodel the J. C. Penney’s and Lee’s stores in Storm Lake and buildings on the Shinrone Ranch south of Odebolt, Iowa.

In 1951, Ellsworth started farming for himself south of Battle Creek (on the Pete Broder’s home place). Two years later, he moved his family to a farm south of Newell. Here he was 50/50 with another farmer. Every year he and his partner raised 3,000-5,000 head of lambs, 800 head of cattle and countless numbers of pigs.

Ellsworth then bought a farm east of Newell. He farmed, milked cows and started trucking. He trucked eggs to Chicago and cattle to Texas, Colorado and Wyoming. He trucked sheep to south Texas and Missouri. Once he trucked 1,700 head of yearlings from Mexico to Indiana. He also drove a mail truck from Storm Lake to Fort Dodge, Iowa. Six years later, he purchased the present farm from Henry and Jean Kjarsgaard and moved his wife and five children just across the road.

Along with farming, he got back into carpentering. Among some more places he helped build were B.V. Stationery and Printing, the building currently housing the A.E.A., Anderson Brass, and First Federal Bank, all in Storm Lake. He helped with the Albert City nursing home. He poured all the cement in Frank Starr Park for sidewalks, not to mention the endless numbers of remodeled homes and barn shinglings he did.

In later years, he helped at the DeKalb Seed Corn plant in Storm Lake. After retiring, he worked with his woodworking shop making wooden toys and other projects for his family and grandkids as presents for birthdays and Christmases.

Ellsworth was a member of the Eastern Star, Mason Royal Lodge #428, American Legion Post #193 of Newell, Independent Order of Odd Fellows #232 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Ellsworth was a good husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid fisher and western book reader. He always enjoyed western movies, especially those featuring John Wayne and Clint Eastwood.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda, of Newell; daughter Florene Cork and husband, Richard, of Schaller, Iowa; son Ellsworth, Jr. and wife Teresa of Newell; daughter Sylvia Nelson of Newell; son Elwyn and wife Char of Newell; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Daniel Williamson and wife Mary of Ida Grove, Iowa; three sisters-in-law: Beverly Jeppeson of Spencer, Iowa; Catherine Williamson of Battle Creek; and Gloria Jeppeson of Fort Wayne, Indiana; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Ellsworth was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Margaret Jeppeson; two brothers, Merl and Burton; two sisters, Margaret and Adeline; son Lynn Clayton; son-in-law John Nelson; mother- and father-in-law Lora and Clay Williamson; and brother-in-law Gordon F. Williamson.

Inez McDonough

Inez McDonough, age 91, of Boone, Iowa and formerly of Schaller and Sac City, Iowa, died Friday, November 9, 2007 in Boone.

Funeral Services for Mrs. McDonough will be held Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Sac City. Pastor Matt Milligan will officiate. Burial will be in Cook Township Cemetery in rural Schaller. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Schaller is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Monday, November 12, 2007 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City, where the family will be present.

Inez M. Koch was born December 15, 1915 in Schaller, Iowa to John and Emma (Brammer) Koch. She attended country school and Odebolt High School. She was baptized and confirmed April 20, 1930 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller.

On March 3, 1937, Inez was united in marriage to Clyde McDonough at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple was blessed with five children: Karen, Richard, Dean, Tom and Dale.

Following her marriage, Inez joined the Presbyterian Church in Schaller and later became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sac City. She and Clyde lived on the farm near Schaller for many years and later they moved to Oak Terrace in Sac City.

Inez was a past Matron of the Eastern Star Organization as well as a member of Clover Club, Cook Merry Gardeners and the Schaller Women’s Club. She loved music as well as cooking for family and friends, which often centered around draft horse events.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Karen Grieme and husband Ron of Sioux City, Iowa; Dean McDonough and wife Mayrean of Marble Falls, Texas; Tom McDonough and wife Kay of Boone, Iowa; Dale McDonough and wife Jodie of Iowa Falls, Iowa; 13 grandchildren: Kathy Johnson and husband Kent of Akron, Iowa; Kevin Grieme and wife Brenda of Lawton, Iowa; Deb Ayers and husband Kelvin of Parker, Colorado; Cindy Struchen and husband Mike, and Marcia Bible and husband Gavin, all of Marble Falls, Texas; Carla Schnitz and husband Chad of Johnson City, Texas; Scot McDonough and wife Connie of Sac City, Iowa; Trent McDonough, Abby Morain and husband Rob, Ross McDonough and wife Amy, all of Boone, Iowa; Brett McDonough of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; Mark McDonough of Des Moines, Iowa; and Ryan McDonough of Iowa Falls, Iowa; 26 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Helen and Bea Koch; extended family and many friends.

Inez was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde; son, Richard McDonough; great-granddaughter, Kelli Johnson; four sisters and four brothers.

Richard Broders

Richard Broders, age 82, of Schaller, Iowa, died Thursday, November 8, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral Service will be Monday, November 12, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller. Burial will be in the Ida Grove Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Schaller is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 11, 2007 from 4-7:00 p.m. with family present 6-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller.

Richard was born July 8, 1925 in Danbury, Iowa to Richard and Christine (Thompson) Broders. He was baptized on October 12, 1930 and later confirmed in 1939 at the Battle Creek Lutheran Church. He received his education at Battle Creek country school and graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1940. Richard was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller.

On October 17, 1948, Richard was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Van Griethuysen in Battle Creek, Iowa. The couple was blessed with three children: Timothy Richard, Jonathan Hale and Megan Ann.

Richard enjoyed playing cards, going to casinos and fishing. Family was always first in Richard’s life, and he treasured every moment he was able to share with his children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, Barbara Ann, of Schaller; his daughter, Megan McGowan and her husband Shawn of Aurelia, Iowa; three grandchildren: Christine (Broders) Box and her husband Cody, Caitlin (McGowan) Kaiser and her husband Nathan and Jessy Swanson; two sisters: Dorothy Hansen and Arlene Griese; extended family and many friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; two sons; grandson, Josh McGowan; and brother, George Broders.

Roland L. Geyer

Roland L. Geyer, age 90, of Storm Lake, Iowa, and longtime businessman from Early, Iowa, died Sunday, October 21, 2007 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Funeral Services for Mr. Geyer will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Reverend Duane Queen will officiate. Burial will be in the Odebolt Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 4-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present.

Roland Louis Geyer was born October 14, 1917 in Early, Iowa, the son of Fred and Mabel (Halboth) Geyer. He was baptized into the Christian faith at the Presbyterian Church in Odebolt. He received his education at a country school near Odebolt.

In 1939, Roland was married to Dorothy Mae Morey. They welcomed their son, Tod Allen, in 1959. The couple farmed in the Odebolt area from 1940 until 1950, at which time they purchased and moved to a farm south of Early. Roland raised purebred Spotted Poland China hogs and had a herd of Guernsey dairy cattle. An avid horseman, Roland bought, sold, trained and showed Palomino quarter horses for 24 years. In 1981, the couple bought a home and moved into Storm Lake, where they lived happily until Dorothy passed away in 1993. In April 2006, Roland moved to Otsego Place in Storm Lake.

During his farming years, Roland worked part-time for USDA/ASCS from 1954 to 1957. In 1958, Roland became a federal crop insurance agent. He served as chairman of the Iowa Agents Association from 1975 to 1981. He was a charter member of the National Agent Association, organized in 1977 and was appointed treasurer of this association. In 1981, Roland helped organize the present National Association of Crop Insurance Agents (NACIA). He also served as a past treasurer of the NACIA. Roland’s son, Tod, and friend, Phil Fanning, joined Roland as partners in the Roland Geyer Agency in Early in 1985.

Despite keeping up with his farming and business interests, Roland always put his family first. He always stressed the importance of a family vacation each year. He loved to travel in the western states of the U.S. A loving husband and devoted father, Roland’s caring ways will be dearly missed.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Tod Geyer of Early; many nieces and nephews, extended family and a host of friends.

Roland was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 54 years, Dorothy; three brothers: Darrell Geyer, Fay Geyer and Leo Geyer; and three sisters: Eva Geyer, Esther Bettin and Edna Obman.

Alura Lullman

Alura Mae Lullman, age 77, died Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Services for Mrs. Lullmann will be held on Monday, March 31, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Sunday, March 30, 2008 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present during that time.

Alura Mae Grewe was born May 3, 1930 in Des Plaines, Illinois to Fred and Bertha (Kruse) Grewe. She was baptized on June 29, 1930 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. In 1948, Alura graduated from Maine Township High School; from there she went onto college where she received her teaching degree. While teaching at Zion Parochial School from 1950-1952, she met her future husband, John Lullmann Jr. Alura went to teach in Patterson, New Jersey while John served in the Army.

On August 21, 1955, Alura was united in marriage to John Diedrich Lullmann Jr. at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. The couple was blessed with three children: John Stephen, Timothy Paul and Rebekah Noel.

Alura remained affiliated with Zion Lutheran Church where she was involved in LWML and Ladies Aid. In addition she was involved in Questers. She enjoyed arranging flowers for the Clay County Fair, having an antique booth in Walnut, Iowa and spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: John Stephen Lullmann (fiancé Debra Gransow and her children, Max and Cassidy Gransow) of Storm Lake, Tim (Julie) Lullmann of Storm Lake and Rebekah (Steven) Christ of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Jeannie Marie Lullmann of West Des Moines, Iowa, John Daniel Lullmann of Storm Lake, Kyle Eugene Christ of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Nicole Diane Lullmann of West Des Moines, Tara Ann Lullmann of Storm Lake and Kayla Mae Christ of Storm Lake; great-grandchilren: Mackenzy Nicole Lullmann, Katience Jade Opal Lullmann and John Carter Lullmann; brother, Eugene Fred Grewe of Rockford, Illinois; niece: Ramsey (Jesse) Barlow of State College, Pennsylvania, sisters-in-law: Anna Hogrefe of Storm Lake, Tillie (Vic) Bartels of Storm Lake, Lea Kreutz of Holstein, Iowa, Norma (Arnie) Otto of Albert City, Iowa and Edna Rebhuhn of Albert City; extended family and many friends.

Alura was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; sister, Annette Stade and sister-in-law, Hilda Hogrefe.

Bounthom Nera

Bounthom Nera, age 64, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Traditional Buddhist Rites will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Bounthom was born November 11, 1943 in Laos. In 1966, he was married to Chai in Laos. The couple was blessed with four children: Catherine, Vilayvanh, Vilayvone and Vilayphone.

Bounthom was a hard worker, but he enjoyed fishing in his spare time. He loved his family and treasured the time he spent with them.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Chai; children: Catherine Chanthasato, Vilayvanh Colalillo, Vilayvone (Thau), and Vilayphone; seven grandchildren, extended family and many friends.

Bounthom was preceded in death by his parents.

Edith F. Ebersole

Edith F. Ebersole, age 89, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell, Iowa.

Memorial services for Mrs. Ebersole will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Faith Bible Christian Outreach Center in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon at a later date. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangement.

Friends may call on Friday, February 22, 2008 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00.

Edith was born March 25, 1918 in Marathon, Iowa, the daughter of William Frederick and Lillie Della (Ricke) Smith. She was baptized on October 19, 1930 in the United Methodist Church in Marathon. Edith spent her youth in the Marathon area and received her education in the Marathon schools. She graduated from Marathon High School in 1936, then continued on to attend cosmetology school in Omaha for two years.

On September 9, 1939, Edith was united in marriage to LaVern Edwin Ebersole in Spencer, Iowa. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Mary and a son, Greg.

Edith was a loving wife and devoted mother who found happiness in keeping a warm and comfortable home for her family. She enjoyed sewing and did alterations for others. Music played a large part in her life. She was an accomplished pianist and organist and enjoyed sharing her talents with others. To that end, she gave piano lessons and served as her church organist. Edith loved her Lord and was happy to serve Him in many ways. Edith was a member of Faith Bible Christian Outreach Center in Storm Lake. She was a former Sunday School teacher and also had served as Sunday School superintendent in the United Methodist Church in Marathon. She was a member of Eastern Star for many years.

Her family, however, was always most important in Edith’s life. She treasured the times she spent with them and carried them in her heart always. Her kind and caring ways will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Mary (Dr. Charles) Egeland of Ames, Iowa; her son, Greg (Karen) Ebersole of Storm Lake; grandchildren: Kristen (Todd) Applegate of Phoenix, Arizona; Peter (Jennifer) Egeland of Kansas City, Missouri; and Brandon Ebersole of Hudson, Iowa; great-grandchildren: Olivia Boe, Mia Applegate and Jocelin and Joelle Egeland; special friend, Nadine Ullerich; extended family and many friends.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers and five sisters.
