Mary Louise Gabrielson

Mary Louise Gabrielson, 63, of Clear Lake, died Sunday, May
22, 1994, at her home.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 24, at the Evangelical
Free Church in Clear Lake, with Pastors Dave Van Wingerden, Larry
Yeoman and Randy Vaage officiating. Burial was in the Clear Lake
Cemetery.

Mary Louise Gabrielson was born September 23, 1930, in Dayton,
Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Leona (Bygel) Benson. She attended
and received her education in the Dayton School System gradating from
Dayton High School in 1948. After graduating from high school she
attended and graduated from Fort Dodge Business College in 1949. Following
her graduation from college she was employed by the DeKalb Experimental
Farms as a secreatary. She received her education in the Dayton School
System

She was united in marriage to John Gabrielson on May 19,
1956, in Dayton. After their marriage she began working as a custodian
at the Evangelical Free Church in Clear Lake doing this for several
years. Her great love and enjoyment was her church, and her family
and grandchildren. She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church
in Clear Lake.

She enjoyed serving in the church and was involved in numerous
activities.... Lance Gabrielson and his wife, Tami, of Rochester,
Minn., and Lonnie Gabrielson, Clear Lake; a dear friend,
Rosemary Hall of Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Irene Sandell and her husband,
Joe, of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Carol Rhoades, Muskegon, Mich.;

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, John Gabrielson,
Clear Lake; her mother, Leona Benson, Mason City; one daughter,
Linda Vaage and her husband, Pastor Randy Vaage of Clear Lake;
two sons, brother, Carl Benson and his wife, Doris, Knoxville, Iowa; four
grandchildren, Jennifer, MIchele, and Jeff Vaage and
Nicole Gabrielson; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Organists/pianists Glenys Schloemer, and Erma Brue accompanied
soloist, Lavon Kacer, and a duet by Pastor Larry and Nancy Yeoman.

Honorary pallbearers were Martin Meier, George Hill, Dick Hill,
Orval Butenhoff.

Pallbearers were Chuck Heuberger, Brad Meier, Les Nelson,
Don Neuberger, Doug Harrenstein, Lonnie Wilson.

Christine Hansine Ashland

Christine Hansine Ashland, 96, long an active citizen of
Clear Lake, died Tuesday, May 24, 1994, at the Concord Care Center,
Garner, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 27, at the United
Methodist Church in Clear Lake ....

Burial was in the Clear Lake Cemetery. The Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel was in charge of services.

The family of Christine Ashland has requested that memorial
contributions be made to the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake
in her memory.

Christine Hansine Ashland was born on Feb. 3, 1898, in Britt,
Iowa, the daughter of Peder and Ann (Madsen) Kolle. She received her
education in the Britt schools and was a graduate of Hamilton Business
College of Mason City. She was united in marriage to Cornelius E.
(Cornie) Ashland on June 28, 1924, in the Little Brown Church at Nashua,
Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1967. She was a resident of Clear
Lake for 60 years, before moving to Prairie View Apartments in Garner
in 1984. In October of 1989, she became a resident of Concord Care
Center, in Garner, where she resided until her death.

For many years Christine worked in Mason City, first as a
law stenographer to the late Ralph Stanberry, Cerro Gordo County attorney,
and then as an accountant for the Chicago Northwestern Railroads division
accounting office. In later years she was a bookkeeper at the Clear
Lake Lumber Company and an assistant assessor for the City of Clear
Lake.

Christine was a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist
Church and was active in many community affairs.

She is survived by two sons, Charles Ashland and his wife,
Mavis, of Britt, and Calvin Ashland and his wife, Ilse, of Los Angeles,
Calif.; one daughter, Corine Hadley and her husband, Leonard, Newton,
Iowa; four grandchildren, Philip Hadley of Greenwich, Conn.,
Christine Hadley of Chicago, Ill., Jared Ashland and his wife,
Nancy, Coon Rapids, Minn., and Sarah Ashland of Rapid City, S.D.;
and one great-grandchild, Chelsea Ashland, Coon Rapids, Minn.;
and many relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four sisters,
Margaret Salstrom, Mabel Howlett, Zella Briere and Mary Wahlert.

Mary Jane Reynolds, organist accompanied soloist, Marilyn Sadler.

Don F. Huey Sr.

Don F. Huey Sr., 85, died Sunday, June 5, 1994, at his home
in Clear Lake after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday), June 8,
at 1:30 p.m. at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear Lake.
Don Huey was a lifelong resident of Clear Lake. He began work
as a plumber in 1928, a career he followed for 55 years. Many of those
with E.L. Secory and Sons. He also operated the Bayside Roller Coaster
for many years.

He became a member of the Clear Lake Volunteer Fire Department
in 1929, thus beginning a continuous period of public service with
this organization spanning nearly 50 years, with almost 20 spent as
fire chief. He was also a past president of the Cerro Gordo County
Firemans Association.

Mr. Huey was a popular and familiar figure at many local
events and parades as the driver of Clear Lakes 1924 Ahrens Fox Fire
Truck. He was also a prime figure in the establishment of Clear Lakes
Fire Museum.

He was a charter member of Clear Lake Bowling Association
and an avid outdoorsman. He loved to garden and raise flowers.

He is survived by two daughters, Donnarae Carrel and her
husband, Dr. K.R. Carrell, Stanley, Wis., and Dorita Gae Huey, Mound,
Minn.; a son, Don (Scoop) Huey Jr. and his wife, Jan, Mason City;
three sisters, Doris Evans, Harbor, Ore., Delpha Linnenkamp, Clear
Lake, and Dorcas (Patsy) Gibbs, Willow Grove, Penn.; three brothers,
David and his wife, Dima Huey of Sedro Wolley, Wash., Darwin and his
wife, Ursula Huey, Omaha, Neb., and D.A. (Pete) Huey and his wife,
Joan, Clear Lake; his former wife, Jessie Huey, Clear Lake; eight
grandchildren, Doug Huey, Debbie Wilson, Doreen Christiansen,
Tom Carrell, Ted Carrell, Tim Carrell, Aura Lea Carrell,
Mary E. Morriss; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and
nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Caroline Huey;
one brother, Dennis Huey; and a sister, Dorothy Powell.

The family suggests memorials to the Clear Lake Fire Museum.

He was born April 9, 1909, in Clear Lake, the son of
Albert Roy and Caroline (Dunteman) Huey.He attended school in Clear Lake.

John Wallace Hale

John Wallace Hale, 76, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday, June 14, 1994,
at his home.

There will be no services. The body was cremated. Friends are
welcome to pay their respects to the family at their home.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th Street, was in
charge of arrangements.

John Wallace Hale, was born on April 16, 1918, in Milwaukee, Wis.,
the son of John Frank and Gurena (landsverk) Hale. He was baptized
on June 9, 1918, and attended grade school in Florence, Wis.,
graduating from Northwood HIgh School in 1936. He also graduated
from Iowa State University in 1948, with a Bachelor of Science
degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was inducted into the U.S.
Army serving during World War II from 1940 until 1945, as First
Lieutenant with the 133rd Infantry Division seeing action in
France and Germany.

He was united in marriage to Esther R. Lewis on July 25, 1946,
in Albert Lea, Minn. After graduating from Iowa State University
he worked for Iowa Public Service Company in Storm Lake, Iowa,
until 1955, when he moved to San Francisco, Calif., working for
Pacific Gas and Electric Company. He also worked for various
engineering firms in the cosntruction of Power Plants overseas
in Korea, Indonesia, Egypt, India, East Pakestan, Tailand, and
Saudi Arabia, over 25 years until his retirement in 1986.

He enjoyed reading, fishing, boating, and traveling where they
would winters in Texas, California and Arizona. He was a member
of Our Buddies VFW Memorial Post #6779 of Northwood.
He is survived by his wife Esther R. Hale, of Clear Lake; one son,
Michael Hale and his wife, Michalene, Palo Alto, Calif.; and
many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Robert Hale.

Bob Carstens Marquard

Bob Carstens Marquard, 52, of rural Charles City, died Sunday,
June 12, 1994, at his home. Graveside interment services were held
Saturday, June 18, in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City
with the Rev. Dean Hess of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake,
officiating. The body was cremated.

Bob Carstens Marquard was born on Nov. 6, 1941, the son of
Frank H. Marquard and Dorothy (nee) Carstens Marquard in Clear Lake.

He attended and received his education in the Clear Lake School
system. After completing his schooling he was inducted into the
U.S. Armed Forces. After his discharge he moved back to Clear Lake
where he worked and managed the Mason City Foundry until its closing.
He also worked for several years for the Ohler Machinery Company in
Janesville, Iowa, until his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed fishing,
hunting, camping, canoeing, back packing, motorcycles and was an
all around sports enthusiast.

He is survived by a sister, Donna Scheibel and her husband,
Kenneth, Clear Lake; two brothers, Frank G. Marquard, Clarion,
Iowa, and Roger L. Marquard and his wife, Mary, Hillsborough,
N.C.; nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
