Lee Hoffman
Lee R. Hoffman, 89, of Hamilton, Ill., formerly of Carthage, Ill., died at 4:45 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage.
Born Jan. 29, 1913, near Dallas City, Ill., he was the son of Henry and Elva Nixon Hoffman. He married Ruth A. Clampitt on Oct. 16, 1935. She died Jan. 27, 1975. He later married Martha Ancelet on Jan. 29, 1977, in Carthage, Ill.
Mr. Hoffman farmed in the Carthage area for more than 30 years.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Leroy Hoffman of Carthage; one daughter, Doris Rhodes of Fort Morgan, Colo.; one stepdaughter, Nancy Ancelet–Barnes of Mendon; four grandchildren; and six great–grandchildren.
Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
There will be no visitation.
The graveside service for Mr. Hoffman will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Calvary Catholic Cemetery
in Carthage.
A memorial has been established for McDonough Hospice.

Wilson Isreal
Wilson D. Isreal, 91, of Monmouth, Ill., died at 7:02 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Galesburg, Ill.
Born June 21, 1913, in Monmouth, Ill., he was the son of Alonzo and Jennie Springer Isreal. On June 4, 1938, he married Rosemary Maxey in Monmouth.
Mr. Isreal was a Linotype operator for many years, working at the Review Atlas of Monmouth for 19 years and then at the Galesburg Register Mail for 22 years. He retired in 1978.
He was raised in Monmouth and was a graduate of Monmouth High School. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church of Monmouth, Marion B. Fletcher Post 136 American Legion in Monmouth and Communications Workers of America. He was a life member of Knights of Columbus in Monmouth.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Susan A. Crabill of Bloomington, Ill.; two grandchildren; and three great–grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters.
Visitation will begin at noon Sunday at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth with a rosary recited at 2 p.m., after which the family will receive friends.
The Mass of Christian burial for Mr. Isreal will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Church, with the Rev. Michael Monclova officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery
in Monmouth.
A memorial has been established.
Richard Miller
Richard A. "Dick" Miller, 57, of Burlington, died at 9:07 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Arrangements are pending at Hass–Thielen Funeral Home.
Ruth Sample
Ruth Haifleigh Sample, 91, of Burlington, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Arrangements are pending at Prugh Funeral Service.
Vickie Gillis
Vickie Gillis, 65, of Sparta, Ga., died Friday, April 1, 2004.
Mrs. Gillis was an over–the–road truck driver.
She was a native of Fairfield and made her home in Hancock County for the past seven years. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, where she was active in the veteran's home ministry.
Survivors include her husband, George W. Gillis of Sparta; three daughters, Regina Nieft of Milledgeville, Ga., Cathy Gillis of Burlington and Lori Peterman of Douglas, Wyo.; four sons, Raymond Smith of Bloomington, Ricky Gillis and Charles Gillis, both of Burlington, and Lonnie Gillis of Wever; 17 grandchildren; 19 great–grandchildren; three sisters, Margo Jones of Branson, Mo., Jolene Jones of Triplette, Mo., and Sandra Frakes of Ollie; and two brothers, James Baker of Trenton, Mo., and Johnny Baker of Missouri.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Williams Funeral Home & Crematory, 1670 N. Jefferson St., Milledgeville, Ga. 31061.
The funeral for Mrs. Gillis will be Thursday at Williams Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Fernando Verduzco officiating. Burial will be in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Walter Stewart
Walter R. Stewart, 85, formerly of Keokuk, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Born April 15, 1919, in Clark County, Mo., he was the son of Samuel E. and Mary Mae Kinard Stewart. On Oct. 14, 1942, he married Sally I. Ford in St. Patrick, Mo. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Stewart was plant supervisor for Thomas Truck & Caster for 21 years and then worked for four years for Happy Homes and later owned and operated a business in Missouri for five years, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk and Loyal Order of Moose. He was a lifelong resident of Keokuk until recently.
Survivors include one son, William R. Stewart of Corpus Christi; one granddaughter; one great–granddaughter; three stepchildren; one stepgreat–grandson; one brother, Charles Stewart of Kahoka, Mo.; and one sister, Marie Miller of Atlanta.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
There will be no visitation.
The graveside service for Mr. Stewart will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Kahoka Cemetery , with the Rev. Robert Lathrop officiating.

CORNELIA COOPER
Funeral services for Cornelia Mary Priscilla Burrell Cooper will be held in Prugh's Chapel on Monday at 10:30 a.m. Pastor John L. Mitchell and Rev. Allen Cooper will officiate. Interment will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery . Friends may call at Prugh's Chapel today, between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at Prugh's Chapel where the family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. A memorial has been established in her memory.

Funeral services for Mrs. Nona Margaret Thistlethwaite, 92, of Burlington, who died on Thursday, April 26, 2007, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, will be held in the first Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. The family will be present to greet friends in Prugh's Chapel on Monday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friends may call on Sunday between the hours of 11:00 and and 5:00 p.m. A memorial has been established for the First Presbyterian Church.
Velna Wellington
Velna Irene Wellington, 69, of Mount Pleasant, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at her home.
Born July 8, 1934, near Denmark, she was the daughter of Byron Aaron and Alpha Maude Krakel Seager. On May 17, 1952, she married Everett William "Buck" Wellington in New London. He died Dec. 28, 1991.
Mrs. Wellington worked at the former Sylvania plant (later Emerson Electric) in Mount Pleasant. She also worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown and, for 25 years, was lead lady of the builder box line at Heatilator (now Hearth Technologies) in Mount Pleasant. She and her husband also managed a tavern in Rome. She retired in 1993.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one son, Charles "Chuck" Wellington of Norwalk, Calif.; four daughters, Teresa Vaughn of Agency and Marylu Granaman, Cindy Wellington and Chris Bruggemeyer, all of Mount Pleasant; 19 grandchildren; 13 great–grandchildren; and one brother, Richard Seager of Rock Island, Ill.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, two brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today at Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mrs. Wellington will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home, with Elder James Martin Jr. of Jesus Only Apostolic Temple in Mount Pleasant officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery
in Mount Pleasant.

Mary L. Titus
The funeral service for Mrs. Mary L. Titus, 77, who died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, will be Monday, June 21st, at 10:30 AM in Oak Street Baptist Church. The Rev. Jason Unzicker will officiate. Interment will be Tuesday, June 22nd, at 2:30 PM in IOOF Cemetery , Indianola. Friends may call after 9:00 AM on Sunday, June 20th, in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 PM. The family will also receive friends on Tuesday, June 22nd, from noon to 2:00 PM at Peterson Funeral Home in Indianola. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Oak Street Baptist Church, American Bible Society and VFW National Home.
Francene "Fran" A. Caryl
The memorial funeral service for Mrs. Francene "Fran" A. Caryl, 56, who died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, will be today at 1:30 PM in West Hill United Methodist Church. The Rev. Bill Porter will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and PAW Animal Shelter of Fort Madison. According to Mrs. Caryl's wishes, her body has been cremated.
Wanda Eyler
Wanda May McCosh Eyler, 92, of Tucson, Ariz., died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at Casa de la Luz Hospice in Tucson.
She was born May 9, 1912, in Mount Union. She married Elmo Neil Eyler. He died in 1975.
Mrs. Eyler taught kindergarten in Yarmouth, Wyman and Mount Union for many years.
She and her husband lived in Pittsburgh from 1935 to 1942 and then relocated to the family farm in Mount Union in 1942, where they lived until his death. She moved to Tucson in 1975. She was a lifetime member of TTT and was active in Tucson. She volunteered at Tucson General Hospital and Walker Elementary School. She was an active supporter of Youth On Their Own in Tucson for many years. For the past 10 years she lived at Country Club of La Cholla, where she was active in that community, serving as an usher in the chapel.
Survivors include three sons, Dick Eyler of West Des Moines, Thomas Eyler of Tucson and Jerry Eyler of Menasha, Wis.; seven grandchildren; five great–grandchildren; and one sister, Margeurite of Mount Pleasant.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one stillborn son.
A memorial service for Mrs. Eyler will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at Mount Union United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Winfield–Scott Township Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Youth On Their Own, 1443 W. Prince Road, Tucson, Ariz.

Wayne Sanner
Wayne Stafford Sanner, 79, of Eldon, Mo., died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at University of Missouri Hospitals and Clinics.
Born Oct. 23, 1923, in LaBelle, Mo., he was the son of Winnie and Leta McMurray Sanner. On Jan. 27, 1961, he married Marjorie Louise Cone in Burlington.
Mr. Sanner was a career railroader, working on the Santa Fe, CB&Q and Burlington Northern Lines from 1947 until his retirement as an engineer in 1983.
He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran and served as a platoon sergeant.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Jerilyn Beck of Las Vegas; one stepdaughter, Cindy Reinhart of Plymouth, Mich.; two stepsons, Timothy Barker of Eldon and Kevin Barker of Longmont, Colo.; eight grandchildren; two great–grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Jo Brullo of Flagstaff, Ariz.
A private family memorial service for Mr. Sanner will be at a later date.
A memorial has been established for the Humane Society.
