EVA M. (TAYLOR) OWENS

Benton - Eva M. Owens, 97, of Benton, died at 3:07 p.m. Sunday, May 30, 2004, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Belleville.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home IN Benton, with the Rev. Bert Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic & Oddfellows Cemetery, Benton. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Owens was born August 8, 1906, in Benton, the daughter of William Lemuel Taylor and Emma Bertha (Bailey) Taylor. She married Thomas Owens on April 1, 1923, and he died on Oct. 1, 1963.

She was a homemaker and a very dedicated seventy-plus-year member of First Baptist Church of West City. She was a lifelong resident of Franklin County.

She is survived by a son Dickie Owens and wife, Brenda, O'Fallon; a grandson, Marc Owens and wife Jennifer, McHenry; a niece, Peggy Dixon and husband, Raymond, Benton; and honorary grandson, Jimmy Van Horn, Benton.

Mrs. Owens was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter, Eleanor Sue, and a sister, Pearl Kist.

Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of West City and will be accepted at the funeral home.

JAMES RICHARD STUBBINS

Sesser - James Richard "Dick" Stubbins, 64, of Sesser died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, at Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser, with the Rev. Bill Hottenson officiating. Burial will be in Mulkeytown Cemetery in Mulkeytown. Friends may call to the funeral home from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday.

He was born August 29, 1939, in Valier, the son of John Delbert and Grace (Simpkins) Stubbins.

Mr. Stubbins was a retired bank manager from Union Planters Bank in Sesser.

He married Shirley (Roberts) Stubbins who survives.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; a daughter, Debbie Woodward of Rochester; a son, Mark Stubbins of Woodlawn; and three grandchildren, Haven Stubbins, Andy Woodward and Christopher Woodward.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

JOHN J. UNSWORTH

Formerly Buckner - John J. Unsworth, 59, of Belleville, formerly of Buckner, died Friday, May 28, 2004, in Memorial Hospital in Belleville.

Private graveside services were to be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Herrin City Cemetery in Herrin.

Gilbert Funeral Home of Christopher handled the arrangements.

He was born March 1, 1945, the son of John J. and Marjorie C. (Haithcoat) Unsworth, who preceded him in death.

He married Pat (Thomas) Unsworth, who survives.

Mr. Unsworth was employed as a technician for AT & T and was an Air Force veteran, serving from 1966 until 1969.

Survivors include a daughter, Johna and husband, Nate, Morris of Millstadt; three grandchildren, Brenden, Alexa and Barron Morris; a sister, Nellie Mae and husband, Fred, Reinert of Oshkosh, Wis.; a nephew, Craig and wife, Pauline, Reinert; and a great-niece, Kristy.

FRANCIS 'ELBERT' BIGGS

Christopher - Francis "Elbert" Biggs, 98, of Christopher, died Saturday, May 29, 2004, at home.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher, with Brother Robert Wininger officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale.

He was born May 1, 1906, in Carbondale, the son of George Theodore and Nellie (Hanson) Biggs, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Biggs was a retired Christopher mail carrier. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the Christopher American Legion. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include a sister, Frances and husband, Curtis Hughes of Christopher; cousins, Emmett and Natoma Hanson; and caregivers, Sharon Knapp and Janet Wagner.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lloyd Biggs.

HAZEL M. COWELL

Christopher - Hazel M. Cowell, of Christopher passed away at 3:45 p.m. Monday, May 31, 2004, at her home.

Due to Hazel's wishes, her body will be cremated with a family burial at a later date. The Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher is handling the arrangements.

Hazel was born Feb. 19, 1918, in Mounds, the daughter of Fred and Freda (Behring) Ballard.

Hazel was retired from the Probate Court in St. Louis, Mo. After her retirement, Hazel returned to Southern Illinois to be with family and friends.

She was a child of God and of the Baptist faith.

Hazel is survived by her niece, Sheila Taylor, and a nephew, Tim and Sybil Janello; great-nephews, Jason Taylor, Tony Janello and Andy Janello; and cousins, Kenneth and Fayetta Ballard, James and Gloria Ballard, Mike Shapiro and Chris Shapiro.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Janet and Henry Taylor, and Nancy and Tim Janello; and two nephews, Henry (Skip) Taylor and Dusty Janello.

Hazel will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

JOHN WOOLARD

Austin, Texas - John Woolard passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003 in Austin, Texas.

The son of the late Ford and Marion Moore Woolard of Benton, Mr. Woolard was born on July 10, 1930 in Benton.

He served in the Navy during the Korean War and graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in business.

He worked at Mckesson for 33 years including a tenure as president of their home health care division. After retirement he founded Home Med-Equip Co. in Concord, which his family still owns and operates today.

Mr. Woolard is survived by his wife, Jeannine; his sons, John Jr. and Cliff; his daughter, Deedy; a brother and four grandchildren. No services are planned.

BILLY LEE DENNISON

Christopher - Billy Lee Dennison, 44, of Christopher died at 10:10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at the Herrin Hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Dennison will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at the Vantrease Funeral Home in Zeigler with Brother Gary Pate officiating. Burial will be at Mulkeytown Cemetery. Visiting hours are after 10 a.m. Sunday until the time of the services at the funeral home.

Bill was born Oct. 4, 1959, in Christopher to Orville S. and Martha A. (Essex) Dennison. He married Marte Neiswinger April 3, 1992, in Christopher. She survives in Christopher.

Other survivors include a son, Spencer Dennison, and a daughter, Olivia Dennison, both at home in Christopher; his parents, Orville and Martha Dennison of Christopher; a brother, James Dennison of Christopher; a sister and brother-in-law, Suzanne and Mark Motsinger of Harrisburg, and four nephews, Adam, Caleb, Gabriel and Christopher.

Bill was the office manager at the Huie Insurance Agency in Christopher for over 20 years. He was president of the Christopher Area Youth Association; served on the Christopher School Board for many years and was the announcer at the Christopher High School athletic events.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Dennison may be made to the "Spencer and Olivia Dennison Scholarship Fund" and will be accepted at the funeral home.

RONNIE EUGENE FRICK

Zeigler - Ronnie Eugene Frick, 35, of Zeigler died at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at the Herrin Hospital.

Graveside services for Mr. Frick were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2004 at Zeigler Cemetery with Brother Larry Hallman officiating.

Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Frick may made to the family and will be accepted at the cemetery or may be mailed to Herrin Security Bank at 204 S. Main Street, Royalton, IL 62983. Checks should be made out to Debbie Frick.

Ronnie was born March 14, 1968 in Carbondale to Ronald Byron and Bonnie (Suttie) Frick. He was loved by his mother and stepfather, Bonnie and Rodney Teffertiller of Zeigler; his father, Ronald Byron Frick of Anna; two daughters, Amanda Marie and Cassandra Nichol Frick of Kentucky; a sister, Debbie Frick-Woodsides of Royalton; a brother, Kenny Frick of Herrin; a half-brother, Jeremy Frick, and a half-sister, Jody Osinga, both of Murphysboro; and two nephews, Jack Weston of Zeigler and Chekoda Frick of Royalton.

Ronnie was saved at the Royalton First Baptist Church in 2002.

Vantrease Funeral Home in Zeigler in Royalton is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

BARBARA D. FULLERTON

Mt. Vernon - Barbara D. Fullerton, 67, of Mt. Vernon died at 2:21 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, officiated by Mr. Shane Merritt. Burial will follow at the Oddfellows Cemetery in McLeansboro. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Fullerton was born Oct. 28, 1936, in Morganfield, Ky., the daughter of Cliffton and Ollie (Mabry) Blue. She married Bill J. Fullerton on Dec. 30, 1955, in Morganfield, Ky., and he died June 5, 2000. Her parents also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Fullerton, a homemaker, was survived by a daughter, Angela Samuels and husband, Craig, of Olive Branch, Miss.; a son, Kevin Fullerton and wife, Susan, of Collinsville; four grandchildren, Joshua Samuels, Heather Samuels, Jacob Samuels and Sabrina Fullerton; two step-grandchildren, Krystal and Garrett; four sisters-in-law, Judy Newbury of Opdyke, Barbara Dolan of St. Louis, Joycelyn Passmore of Mt. Vernon and Margie Reece of Mt. Vernon; a brother-in-law, Don Rogers of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.

RAY E. POOLE

Benton - Ray E. Poole, 78, of Benton died at 12:18 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, at the VA Medical Center in Marion.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton with the Rev. David German officiating. Burial with Military Rites conducted by the Benton American Legion and VFW posts will be in the Masonic & Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Ray was born Feb. 8, 1925, in Benton, the son of Rafue Dodd and Margaurite (Lipe) Poole. On Feb. 1, 1947, in Benton, he married Helen (Gostowski), and she survives.

Mr. Poole was a retired auto mechanic, owning and operating his own garage in Benton for more than 50 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving aboard an aircraft carrier. Mr. Poole was a member of the Forest Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Benton American Legion and VFW posts.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Poole of Benton; children, Linda Vinyard and husband, Kevin, of Marion, Carolyn Riffel and husband, Roy, of Royalton, Larry Poole and wife, Gail, of Benton, Gayla Eckles and fianc/, Brad Woodcock, of Bluford, and Steve Poole and wife, Kim, of Bronson, Fla.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Michele Bartels and husband, Bob, and their son, Aaron of Herrin, Patti Dawson and husband, Phil, and their sons, Cody and Dylan, of Marion, Leota Fry and husband, Gary, and their children, Keisha, Christian and Nicholas of Hayden, Colo., Denzil McClintock and wife, Trina, and their son, R.W., of Whittington, Ashley Poole of Benton, Derek and Liz Burgess of Benton and Hayle, Dustin Eckles of Bluford, Leslie Eckles of Bluford, B.J. Woodcock of Bluford, Hannah and Kelsey Woodcock of Anna, Tommy and Stephanie Poole of Bronson, Fla., and Megan, Codi-Jo and Cheyenne of Bronson, Fla.; two brothers, Robert Poole and wife, Irma, of Thompsonville, and Earl Gene Poole and wife, Delphia, of Minooka; cousin, Lucille Luke of Benton; and several nephews, nieces, and great-nephews and great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
