Hazel W. Bracken, 92, of Crosstown Square, Silvis died Sunday, July 29, 2007 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, IL. A memorial service to honor her life will be Saturday, August 4, at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior at First United Presbyterian Church 801-16th St., Moline and burial will be in Alexis cemetery. Memorials may be made to First United Presbyterian Church. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. is assisting the family. She was born October 18, 1914 in Stahl, MO to James and Nellie Scobee. She had two sister and two brothers, they are all deceased. She married Chuck Grabosch and they lived in Alexis until his sudden death on January 7, 1959. She married Samuel Bracken in 1967 and they lived near Branson, MO. He died in 1994. Hazel was a Cafeteria Manager at Alexis High School, but most of all loved being a homemaker and was a great cook. She was an expert seamstress and was always altering a garment.

Margaret Alma Stephenson Clark, 90, of Roanoke, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday morning, July 31, 2007. Margaret was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Coal Valley, Ill. and was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Joseph R. Clark; her sister M. Lavona Akers; and her brothers, J. Vernon Stephenson, and Willard Stephenson. She is survived by her children, Robert (Linda) Clark of Richmond, Va., Rebecca (Edward) Larson of Rock Island, Ill., Melody (Robert) Cashman of Quincy, Ill., and Linda (Howard) McVey of Roanoke, Va., her grandchildren, Susan (Richard Baker) Clark of Austin, Texas, Robert, Jr. (Lorie) Clark of Zypher Hills, Fla., Sandra (DJ) Shannon of Colona, Ill., Michael Larson of Sherrard, Ill., Michelle Larson of Bettendorf, Iowa, Cindy (Jeff) Hendrickson of Keokuk, Iowa, John (Tracy) Cashman of Chatham, Ill., Bill Cashman of Nauvoo, Ill., Brian (Nancy) Anderson of Vinton, Va., Chris (Mike) Ouellette of New Castle, Va., and Brent (Layla) Anderson of Vinton, Va., ; her step grandchildren, Robin (Laura) McVey of Newburgh, Ind. and Heather McVey Hansen of Roanoke, Va.; 17 great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Illa Stephenson of Rock Island, Ill., Grayce Dean and Edith Clark, both of Milan, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Robert Edward “Bob” Carsell, 80, of Silvis passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at Heartland Healthcare Center, Moline. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. on Friday at Elim Covenant Church, 5201 18th Avenue, Moline, with the Rev. Darren Olson officiating. Interment will follow at the National cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #246. Memorials may be made to the Church or to Pathway Hospice. Bob was born May 24, 1927 in Moline to Orville E. “Pete” and Maizie Frances Woodhull Carsell. He was a 1945 graduate of Moline High School. Bob married Lorraine Elaine Hagberg on November 15, 1947. The wedding was conducted by Bobs’ father, O.E. Carsell, Justice of the Peace. Bob was employed for 45 years at Williams/White Company, Moline, retiring May 24, 1992. Bob enjoyed watching the Cubs and many other sports, playing golf and being with his family. He was a true Moline Maroon. He was a member of the American Legion Post #246 and Elim Covenant Church.

Edward "Ed" Malthouse

Edward “Ed” Richard Malthouse, 88, of Moline, died Wednesday, August 1, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center Illini Campus. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Friday at the Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Ed was born on October 31, 1918 in Mason City, Iowa the son of James and Mildred Koster Malthouse. He graduated from Moline High School in 1936. He married Elinor Johnson on September 19, 1943 in Moline. Following graduation he joined Eagle Signal Corporation in Moline and began a 37 year career with Eagle, which later became a division of E.W. Bliss Company of Canton, Ohio, and Gulf and Western Corporation of New York. Ed volunteered to serve in the Marine Corps in WWII but the War Department instead determined his skills were critical to Eagle Signal’s industrial production efforts for the Norden Bomb Sight, Teletype communication equipment, and special military items used on ships, aircraft, munitions plants, and bombing trainers. Ed rose through the ranks to become Chief Engineer and General Manager of Eagle Signal and later Group Vice President of E.W. Bliss. When he retired in 1973, he was a Group Vice President in the Systems Division of Gulf and Western. Following retirement Ed became active in SCORE (Service Corps Of Retired Executives) and held real estate licenses in Illinois and Iowa. Ed was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Moline. His community activities included Sea Scouts, Boy Scouts (earning the Order of the Arrow), Rotary International and board of trustee service for several Ohio colleges. He was a lifelong member of The Society of Tool and Manufacturing Engineers. Ed enjoyed participating in many sports and roller skated well into his 80’s. He loved his family and enjoyed the fellowship of his friends and work colleagues.

Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established later. Jean was born January 22, 1938 in Davenport to Charles and Norma Minaert Daniels. She married Donald Bloomquist on March 10, 1956 in Moline. Jean was a packager for Cresent Baking in Davenport. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Moline. She enjoyed craftwork, bingo, and attending her grandkids various activities and spending time with family. Harold Worman, 89, of Rock Island, died Friday, August 3, 2007 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. In accordance with Harold’s wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no memorial or funeral service. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. is assisting the family. Harold was born December 2, 1917 in Clarence, MO to Sene and Anne Lee (Smith) Worman. He married Dorothy R. Epperly on November 1, 1941 in Canton, MO. Harold served in the military from April 1941 to July 1945. He started his service in the Red Bull 34th Infantry Division transferring into the 205th Military Police serving under General Dwight D. Eisenhower. He retired from the Rock Island Post Office in January of 1979 as Supervisor of Mail. He was a member of the Milan American Legion, a 50 years member of Trio Lodge #57, and a 50 year member of the Free Mason 32nd degree Ancient Scottish Rite Consistory.

Floyd was born April 27, 1921 in Grinnell, IA to Harvey Harold and Mary Elizabeth (Thompson) Brown. He married Viola Grace Mitchell on July 28, 1946. She preceded him in death on August 12, 2004. Floyd was a truck driver for Consumers and was a barber at the All Service Barber Shop. He was a WWII Navy veteran serving 3 years on the USS Indiana BB-58. Rebecca Gould, of Rapids City IL, died peacefully after a 2 year fight against cancer on Sunday, August 5th 2007 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf Iowa. Visitation will be held at the Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Ave., Moline on Wednesday, August 8th from 4 to 8 p.m. Celebration of life memorial services will be held at St. John’s Catholic Church in Rapids City on Thursday, August 9th at 10:30 a.m., with interment following at the Rapids City cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society. Becky was born on May 23rd, 1953 to John & Harriette Gillespie of Hampton, IL. While her time on this earth was far too short, Becky lived a full and happy life. Having graduated from Alleman High School, she obtained her Bachelor of Business degree at Western Illinois University, while working full time. She married Thomas M. Gould at St. John the Baptist in October 16, 1976. Their two daughters are Melissa and Amelia. Becky began her career with Deere & Company in 1974 as a clerk typist in the Personnel department. She transferred to the Finance division and worked for 20 years as the supervisor of Stockholder Relations. She then administered the stock option program until her retirement in 2006. Becky’s artistic talent was apparent in every area of her life – her creative abilities bringing light and form with an incredible imagination. Outside of work, Becky’s interests included painting and sculpting. She took particular pride and pleasure in having been greatly involved in the creation of drawings and models used for the chainsaw carving of the Heritage Tree in Hampton, IL. In recent years, her focus shifted more exclusively to painting. Becky also enjoyed her flowerbeds; she was an avid bicyclist and took delight in motorcycle rides with her husband Tom. She had a fun-loving personality that shined through in her witty sense of humor and infectious smile. Above all else, she adored her husband and daughters and treasured the times they spent vacationing together over the years in various parts of the country, especially Daytona Beach, FL. She was blessed with an exceptionally loving and supportive family. Many dear friends and relatives rallied to give her strength and encouragement during her last years, and to those people, she was forever grateful and wished them many blessings in return. Beloved wife and mother, she is survived by her husband and daughters, her mother Harriette Gillespie, of Hampton IL, three brothers and their wives, James (Charlotte) Gillespie, Centennial CO., Patrick (Anita) Gillespie, Hampton IL., and Dennis (Lisa) Gillespie, Ottumwa IA. Her father preceded her in death. She always tried to make everyone’s day a little brighter and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May she rest in God’s peace.
