PARIS, Ill. - Fred G. Payne, 58, of Paris died at 10:56 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, in Edgar Township. He was an electronics instructor for Danville Area Community College for 21 years, taught at Crestwood School for eight years and retired as owner of Country Carpentry. He was born Sept. 9, 1946, in Walters, Okla., to George Jefferson Payne and Betty Jo DeSpain Payne. Survivors include his wife, Anneliese Boll Payne, whom he married Aug. 29, 1970, in Marshall; his mother; one daughter, Monica Payne of Chicago; one son, Christopher Payne and friend Kathy Repine of Indianapolis; one sister, Phyllis Calhoun of Marshall; one brother, Scott Payne of Marshall; one nephew, Jay Rayhel of Marshall; two nieces, Denise Mitchell and Courtney Rhodes, both of Marshall; and five great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as staff sergeant. Memorial services following cremation are 10 a.m. CST Tuesday in Stewart & Carroll Funeral Home. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, in the funeral home. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Cancer Association in Chicago.

J. Lloyd Peters

PARIS, Ill. - J. Lloyd "Brick" Peters, 83, of Paris died at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, in Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born June 27, 1921, in Paris to Harry Peters and Elva Stacy Peters. His first wife, Lois Evans Peters, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Alma Hunt Hefner Peters; one daughter, Jody Quinn; one son, John Peters; one stepson, Keith Hefner; three stepdaughters, Debra Ashley, Dyna Hefner and Kathy Hefner; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services are 2 p.m. CST Wednesday in Stewart & Carroll Funeral Home. Burial is in Edgar cemetery, with graveside military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3601 and Post 211 American Legion. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Eileen Shawver

CASEY, Ill. - Eileen Shawver, 88, of rural Casey died at 4:20 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, in Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind. She was a homemaker. She was born May 14, 1916, in Martinsville, Ill., to Joe and Mayme Flenner. Her husband, Kelley Shawver, whom she married in 1935, died Oct. 19, 1977. Survivors include two sons, Jack Shawver and his wife Jill of Casey, and Neil Shawver of Terre Haute; one daughter, Sue Houpt and her husband Bob of Casey; nine grandchildren, Jack Shawver, Dave Shawver, Scott Shawver, Donna Biggs, Kelly Sue Shawver, Chris Shawver, Lisa Huddlestun, Lori Scimio and Leslie Boston; and 18 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Gerald and Carrol Flenner. She was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church. Services are 10 a.m. CST Tuesday in Greenwell Funeral Home in Martinsville, with the Rev. John Gartelos officiating. Burial is in Ridgelawn cemetery in Martinsville. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Patsy J. Chesrown

BROCTON, Ill. - Patsy J. Chesrown, 70, of Brocton died at 12:04 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, in Lynncrest Manor in Paris. She was a homemaker. She was born Sept. 4, 1934, in Elbridge Township in Edgar County to James E. Breneman and Elizabeth Grubb Breneman. Survivors include her husband, Dan W. Chesrown Jr., whom she married April 14, 1957, in Paris; two sisters, Madelyn Hicks of Dennison and Fern Ecker of Paris; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Melvin, Kenneth and Ben Breneman; and three sisters, Mildred Breneman, Louise Maloney and Alta Brown. She was a member of Chapter 420 Order of Eastern Star in Oakland and was on a bowling league for a number of years. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday in Stewart & Carroll Funeral Home in Paris. Burial is in Embarras cemetery in Embarras Township in Edgar County. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Lincolnland Hospice or Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, in care of Stewart & Carroll Funeral Home, 303 E. Wood St., Paris, IL 61944.

Anna Darlene Dyal

MARSHALL, Ill. - Anna Darlene Dyal, 67, of Paris and formerly of Marshall, died at 9:47 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, in Burnsides Nursing Home in Marshall. She was born Feb. 20, 1937, in Daviess County, Ind., to David Edwards and Celia Duzan Edwards. Survivors include two sons, Gordon Dyal and David Dyal; one daughter, Celia Diane Sullivan; two brothers, Norman Edwards and William Edwards; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Memorial services are 2 p.m. CST Friday in Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall in Paris, with Brandon Duecker officiating. Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall assisted with arrangements.

Gustave F. Schmidt

ROBINSON, Ill. - Dr. Gustave F. Schmidt, 97, of Robinson, died at 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, in his home. Dr. Gus had practiced medicine for 65 years in Robinson, retiring in 1998. He was born Feb. 25, 1907, in Long Island, N.Y., the son of Gustave F. Schmidt Sr. and Elizabeth Butler Schmidt. He married Eula Lee Weger on June 2, 1945, and she survives. He is also survived by five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, Dr. William B. and Betty Schmidt; his sister-in-law, Elva J. McCammo of Martinsville; and his nephew and his wife, Dr. Terry and Pearl Schmidt of Robinson. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sons, Gus F. "Skip" Schmidt III and Walter F. "Butch" Schmidt II; and his brother, Dr. Walt F. Schmidt. He was instrumental in getting Crawford Memorial Hospital built in Robinson and had served Crawford County for many years prior to that in the Schmidt Clinic. He as a member of the American Medical Association, Robinson Masonic Lodge, Danville Consistory, Ainad Shrine of East St. Louis, Robinson Elks Lodge 1188, Quail Creek Country Club, Kiwanis Club, and Robinson Moose Lodge. He also was a founder of the Robinson Air Port and belonged to the Illinois State Pilot's Association. He had received many awards for his medical service and community service in Crawford County. There will be cremation with no service or visitation. Goodwine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Lincoln Trail Foundation Nursing Scholarship Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Eunice F. Benton

MARSHALL, Ill. - Eunice F. Benton, 99, of Marshall died at 9:15 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, in Burnsides Nursing Home. She was a retired hotel cashier, employed at the Claypool Hotel in Indianapolis, Ind., for 14 years. She was born June 19, 1905, in Crawford County to Fred Martin and Dessie Noll Martin. Her husband Paul Benton, died in 1948. Survivors include one sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Harry Baker of Marshall; one nephew and his wife, James and Betty Baker of Marshall and several cousins. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and one grandson. Graveside services are 2 p.m. CST Wednesday in Palestine cemetery, with the Rev. Janice Laws officiating. Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday in Prust-Hosch Funeral Chapel in West Union, Ill.

Ruth Horner Moody

MARSHALL, Ill. - Ruth Horner Moody, 86, of Marshall died at 8:15 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, in Burnsides Nursing Home. She retired from GTE in 1971, after several years of service. She was born Sept. 6, 1918, in West Terre Haute to Elmer Horner and Carrie Liffick Horner. Her husband, Stanley Moody, whom she married in October 1945, died in August 1991. Survivors include three nieces, Nancy Cropp, Betty Cox and Deloris Ash; great-nephews, David Hollingsworth, Jeff Cropp, Michael Cropp and his wife Tammy, and David Cropp and his wife Kim. She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Ann Feiock, in 1991; one sister, Hazel Cropp in 1997; and one nephew, David Cropp Sr. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of Marshall, and attended Marshall schools. Graveside services are 1 p.m. Wednesday in Marshall cemetery with the Rev. Lynn Bartlow officiating. Visitation is 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Wednesday in Pearce Funeral Home.

Glenn David Morgan

MARSHALL, Ill. - Glenn David Morgan, 56, of Marshall died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, in his residence. He was a farmer. He was born April 11, 1948, in Paris to A. Glenn Morgan Jr. and Alpha Walker Morgan. His wife, Edna L. Garner Morgan, died April 8, 2002. Survivors include his mother of Marshall; three brothers, Gary Morgan and his wife Debra Morgan, Jerry Joe Morgan and his wife Debra K. Morgan, and Alfred Morgan and his wife Marianne Morgan, all of Marshall; one sister, Creta Burns of Marshall; 12 nieces and nephews, Brad Burns, Brian Burns, Brooks Burns, Mitch Morgan, Aman Morgan, Ben Morgan, Lori Burns, Brianna Morgan, Gretchen Maynard, Michelle Morgan, Alisa Morgan and Shelby Morgan; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He also was preceded in death by his father Oct. 16, 2004; and one brother-in-law, Gene Burns. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5975 and Marshall Missionary Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Marshall High School. Graveside military rites are 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Clarksville cemetery, by VFW Post 5975 and Clark County Post 90 American Legion. Visitation is 4 to 8 today and 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Pearce Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to join the family at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home for procession to the cemetery.

Leota M. Alexander

MARSHALL, Ill. - Leota M. Alexander, 81, of Marshall died at 12:45 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, in Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind. She was born Sept. 22, 1923, in Marshall to Roscoe Kuhn and Nellie Eaton Kuhn. She married Dean Alexander on Aug. 11, 1946, in Marshall. Surviving are her husband, Dean; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diana L. and Howard Cheesman of Marshall, and Gloria "Jeannie" and Rick Ellington of Martinsville, Ill.; a son, Larry Alexander of Marshall; 10 grandchildren, Tina Sharp, Jay Sharp, Tammy Welborn, Amanda Smelcer, Shane Cheesman, Chris Ellington, Angela Ellington, Kevin Alexander, Daniel Alexander and Whitney Alexander; two great-grandchildren, Tori Ellington and Cheyanne Cheesman; a brother, Clayton Kuhn of Marshall; a sister, Inez Lindy of Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon; and a brother, Max Kuhn. She was a graduate of Marshall High School and was known by many for her attendance at the various events of her grandchildren over the years. Funeral services are 1 p.m. CST Monday in Pearce Funeral Home, with Glenn Arbuckle officiating. Burial is in Marshall cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today and 7 a.m. to services Monday in the funeral home.

Nancy Sue Temples

PARIS, Ill. - Nancy Sue Temples, 60, of Oakland and formerly of Paris died at 1 a.m. Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, in Carle Hospital in Urbana. She was a beautician. She was born Oct. 4, 1944, in Paris to Leo Franklin and Rosalie Jane Furry. She married Larry E. Temples in 1975, and he died Jan. 10, 2005. Survivors include one son, Richard Temples of Paris; two daughters, Rebecca Sue Craven and her husband Tony, and Shirley Ann Weaver, all of Oakland; seven grandchildren, Dalten, Megan and Austin Temples, all of Paris, Christopher Miller of Atlanta, Brooke Dibello of Urbana and Victoria Bond and Holden McConkey, both of Oakland; and one stepgreat-grandchild, Jonathan Folz of Atlanta. She graduated from Paris High School in 1962. She then graduated from the Varner Beauty Academy in 1963 and in the same year established the Lovely Lady Beauty Salon, which she continued to operate until the time of her death. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Paris. She was a loving mother and grandmother, whose favorite times were spent with her grandchildren and family. She also liked doing kind deeds for her neighbors and friends. Her hobbies included shopping, photography and travel. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Sutton & Son Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Embarrass cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday in the funeral home. For those desiring, the family suggests memorials may be made to the Lake Ridge Christian Church of Paris.

Doris E. Frye

PARIS, Ill. - Doris E. Frye, 85, of West Melbourne Fla., and formerly of Paris, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, in Holmes Medical Center in Melbourne, Fla. She was a retired realtor and homemaker. She was born June 22, 1919, in Sanford, Ind., to Everett Conklin and Ruth Denham Conklin. Survivors include her husband, William Fry, whom she married March 23, 1940, in Terre Haute, Ind.; one daughter, Sue Elliott of Paris; one son, Chuck Frye of Boonville, Ind.; a twin sister, Dorothy Watson of Easley, S.C.; four grandchildren, L. Dane Elliott of Centennial, Colo., Jonathan Elliott of Marshall, Ill., Nathan Frye of Advance, N.C., and Jami Mason of Evansville, Ind.; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Lois Burris. She was a graduate of Fayette High School in New Goshen, Ind. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Order of Eastern Star, Order of Amaranth, Daughters of the Nile, Ladies of Nobility, White Shrine and Daughters of the American Revolution. Services were conducted Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, in Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge, Fla. The family suggests that memorial donations may be made to Order of Eastern Star 106, 2300 Dairy Rd., West Melbourne, FL 32904.

Dewey Marcus Roberson Jr.

MARSHALL, Ill. - Dewey Marcus Roberson Jr., 79, of Anchorage, Alaska, died at 9:12 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, in Healthsouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Terre Haute, Ind. He was a retired truck driver. He was born June 29, 1925, in Indio, Calif., to Dewey M. Roberson Sr. and Edna Wiser Roberson. His first wife, Carolyn Joyce Girl, preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 1989. He later married Wanda Slagley Blankenship on March 15, 1993. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Roberson; one daughter, Glenda Pizzichemi and her husband Larry of Renton, Wash.; five stepchildren, Gregg Owen of Martinsville, Janice Clark and her husband Jerry of Casey, Nancy Cooper and her husband Doug of Moline, David Owen and his wife Mary of Marshall and Randy Blankenship and his wife Tammy of Marshall; a grandson, Bryan Pizzichemi; 13 stepgrandchildren, Gary Owen, Brittney Owen, Roger Clark, Maranda Clark, Mina Cooper, Sarah Cooper, Cynthia Cooper, Jammie (Guillermo) Hernandez, Travis Blankenship, Jake Blankenship, Andrew Blankenship, Coolton Blankenship and Casen Blankenship. He also was preceded in death by his parents; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Corrina Hernandez and Olivia Hemandez; and two brothers, Stanley Roberson and Kenneth Roberson. He was a member of the Diamond Boulevard Baptist Church in Anchorage. He served in the U.S. Marines and was discharged in 1947. He left California during his sophomore year of high school and received his GED while serving in the military. After he was honorably discharged from the military, he moved to Alaska. Following his marriage to Wanda, he visited family and friends in Marshall three times a year. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. Funeral services are 10 a.m. (CST) Wednesday in Pearce Funeral Home, with Andrew Frye and Paul Weimer of Diamond Boulevard Baptist Church officiating. Burial is in Marshall cemetery, with military honors conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5975 and Clark County, Ill. Post 90 of the American Legion. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. to services Wednesday in the funeral home.
