Ruby Colyer

FAIRFIELD — Ruby M. Colyer, 92, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.

She had been a beautician and was a member of the Fairfield First Christian Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Jo Ann Campbell of Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Naomi Redfern of Fairfield and Mary Agnew of Texas; four grandchildren, Cindy Kack, Christy Cousin, Steven Allen and Scott Campbell.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Nale’s Funeral Home, with burial in Maple Hill cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Edward Beck

NORRIS CITY — Edward J. Beck, 76, died of heart failure, Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at White County Skilled Care in Carmi.

He was a farmer.

He was a World War II veteran and served in the South Pacific.

He was a graduate of Carmi High School and Lockyear Business College with a degree in accounting.

He was chairman of the White County Soil and Water Conservation District.

In 1999, he was named the Association of Illinois Soil and Water Conservation District’s Outstanding District Director, and he had won a Goodyear Conservation Award in 1975. He was past executive chairman of the White County Agricultural Extension Council, treasurer of Union Ridge cemetery Association and past president of the Wabash Valley Angus Association.

He attended Union Ridge Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mary; a son, Terry E. of Evansville; two brothers, Homer of Carmi and Kenneth of Normal; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 pm. Sunday at Union Ridge Presbyterian Church near New Haven, with burial in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home.

Edna Summerfield

WEST SALEM — Edna Mae Summerfield, 84, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Wanda Shelby of West Salem and Pat Bristow of Albion; a son, Mike of West Salem; a sister Doris Lemke of West Salem; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest in 1988 and a son, John.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Ingram Funeral Home, with burial in Moravian cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Larry Hoke

Flat Rock — Larry G. Hoke, 65, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson of a heart condition.

He was a livestock and grain farmer. He was a member of the Hardinville School board and Oak Ridge United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Darlene (Westall); two daughters; three sons; a sister, Doris Elliott of Porterville; a brother, Ted of Cheyenne, Wyo.; 10 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson, with burial in Hardinville cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

Edith Crackel

ALBION — Edith Ann Curtis Lambert Crackel, 92, of Browns, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.

She taught school in several one room school houses and had written Aunt Ann’s Sunday school lessons in the Albion Journal. She was an active member of the Browns United Methodist Church and the Enterprise Household Science Club.

Surviving are a son, Curtis L. Lambert of Albion; and a sister, Birdie Lambert. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Victor Lambert and Syd Crackel.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Ingram Funeral Home, with burial in Graceland cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the church.

Frederick Turner

HARRISBURG — Frederick Michael “Mike” Turner, 58, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at his home of cancer.

He was the owner and operator of the Bar-B-Que Barn for more than 30 years.

He was a member of the McKinley Avenue Baptist Church and a supporter of the Shriners.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy; a daughter, Tammy Baker of Harrisburg; two stepdaughters, Suzanne Favell and Cindy Pegg; a son, Brent of Harrisburg; a stepson, Michael Grisham; 10 grandchildren, Jana Catherine Baker, Brittany Leah Turner, Christina and Randy Steinmetz, Stephanie, Patricia and Ashley Pegg and Chase, Drake and Paige Grisham; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gaskins Funeral Home, with burial in Sunset Lawn cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Jesse Lampert

ELIZABETHTOWN — Jesse James Lampert, 83, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Hardin County Hospital.

Surviving are five daughters, Shirley McIver and Debbie and Sue Tucker, all of Florida, Joyce Elaine Conkie of Auburn, Rebeccah Lampert of Elizabethtown; six sons, R.J. and Jeff of Florida, Stephen of Vienna, Tom and Kenneth of Elizabethtown and Jon of Kentucky; four sisters, Mildred and Mary Rider, both of Evansville; Juanita Frye of Johnston City and Robbie Irbie of Cave in Rock; his brother, Robert of Shawneetown; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

His wife, Ruth, preceded him in death.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Mount Zion cemetery in Cave in Rock.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to service time at Rose-Gilbert Funeral Home in Cave in Rock.

Dorothy Thompson

SUMNER — Dorothy Stout Thompson, 71, of Meade, Fla., died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at Bartow (Fla.) Memorial Hospital of a heart attack.

She was a member of the Bartow Church of God.

Surviving are her husband, Donald; a daughter, Linda Drewes of Rochester; four sons, Danny Stout of Chauncey, Mark Stout of Evansville and Michael and Terry Stout, both of Mount Carmel; a sister, Pauline Jones of Robinson; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Her first husband, Ivan Stout, preceded her in death.

Arrangements are pending at Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home.

Thomas Crider Sr.

MCLEANSBORO — Thomas H. Crider Sr., 78, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Marion.

He was a timber cutter and had worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Peoria.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

He was a deacon at Full Gospel Church in Broughton.

Surviving are his wife, Betty (Stevens); two daughters, Brenda Tarrence of Eldorado and Wanda Caldwell of Wasson; three stepdaughters, Bonnie G. Skelton of Harrisburg, Jerri Jackson of McLeansboro and Kimberly Russell of Broughton; two sons, Roy T. of Eldorado and Thomas H. Jr. of Dahlgren; four stepsons, Donald and Brian Harris, both of Eldorado, Doug Hudson of Harrisburg and Raymond Hudson of McLeansboro; 24 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Gholson Funeral Home, with burial in Smith cemetery near Dale, with military rites.

Ella Phillips

SHAWNEETOWN — Ella May Phillips, 81, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

She had been a case worker for the Illinois Department of Public Aid.

Surviving are her husband, A. Keith; two sons, Marvin of Hurst, Texas, and A.K. of Shawneetown; three grandchildren, Mike Phillips and Karen and Scott Mueller; and a great-grandson.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Vickery Funeral Home, with burial in Westwood cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Beatrice Stroughmatt

GRAYVILLE — Beatrice V. “Bea” Stroughmatt, 91, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at Meadowood Nursing Home.

She was a member of the Grayville Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are a son, Jack of Albion; two sisters, Lydia Harvey of Grayville and Raydell Seibert of Mount Carmel; a brother, Elmer Goldsmith of Owensboro, Ky.; five grandchildren, Douglas and Dennis Stroughmatt, Gary and Larry White and Cathy McAllister; and a great-granddaughter.

Her husband, Chancy, died in 1998 and her daughter, Shirley White, died in 1988.

Services will be at 2 p.m Friday at Sturm Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Grove cemetery.

Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
