Irene Alexander, 88, of Decatur, IL passed away on June 9, 2013. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Linda, and her husband, Gerald. Graveside services will be held at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday (June 13, 2013) at Maroa Township cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Justin Lee Yount
BORN: August 17, 1984
DIED: June 14, 2013
LOCATION: Dalton City, Illinois
Justin Lee Yount 28, of Dalton City formerly of Mt. Zion, passed away from injuries sustained in an automobile accident while traveling to his job at ADM at 12:30 a.m., Friday, June 14, 2013.

Services to celebrate Justin's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 18th, 2013 at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion with Pastor Bruce Jacobs officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Township cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family request casual attire for the services. Memorials may be made to Rindi Yount Family or the Tyler Yount Foundation Ltd.

Justin was born August 17, 1984 in Odessa, Texas. He was a 2002 graduate of Mt. Zion High School. He served his country in the US Air Force from 2004-2006. He worked for ADM Trucking as a technician. Justin had a true mechanical ability and enjoyed fixing anything that was broken. He was a very hard worker in all things he attempted to do. He enjoyed playing baseball and basketball with his son Jaden. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and also enjoyed fishing and working in his yard. Justin married Rindi Lee Smith on December 20, 2012.

Surviving is his wife Rindi of Dalton City, son: Jaden of Dalton City; parents: Kathy and Mike Burkham of Mt. Zion; brothers: Jeremy Cornell of Decatur, Sgt. Aaron Burkham stationed at Travis Air Force Base, CA, Samuel Burkham of Mt. Zion, and Noah Burkham of Hawaii; grandparents: Sue and Jack Dixon of Decatur, mother-in-law: Kim Smith of Oreana; father-in-law: Kevin Smith of Mt. Zion; sister-in-law: Katie Smith of Forsyth; many aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by his brother: Tyler Yount who passed away four years previously; grandparents: Robert and Donna Koshinski; grandfather: Robert Burkham; grandparents: Rose and Glenn Yount.

George C. Winter
BORN: January 18, 1922
DIED: March 4, 2013
LOCATION: Decatur, Illinois
George C. Winter, 91, of Decatur, IL passed away on Monday (March 4, 2013) at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur, IL.

George's family will be having a private memorial service at a later date. Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion is assisting the family with the arrangements.

George was born on January 18, 1922 in Appleton, WI, the son of George and Irene (Due) Winter. He grew up in Birchwood, WI and after graduating high school he worked for a short time with his father in the plywood mills before joining the United States Coast Guard where he served in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans during WWII. George retired from F.W. Means Company in Decatur, IL. He loved spending time with his family and friends and sharing stories of times gone by. He was an avid fisherman who loved spending afternoons in his canoe in some remote corner of the lake, hoping to catch the big one. Carving was his hobby and he carved many canes, plaques and figurines for his friends and family.

He married Susan Backiline of West Palm Beach, FL in 1946. Together they had three children: Robert (Chris) Winter of Juneau, AK, Ronald (Lois) Winter of Rockford, IL and Christine (Roger) Clark of Decatur, IL. George has five grandchildren: Jennifer (Greg) Thomas of Mt. Zion, IL, Kelly Winter of Portland, OR, Craig (Emily) Winter of Silverton, OR, Tyler (Lynn) Clark of Decatur, IL, Melissa Neal of Rockford, IL and two step-grandchildren: Robert Clark and Jon Clark. He was also blessed to have eight great grandchildren: Zander, Eli, Taylor, Tiffany, Jonah, Cassie, Addison and Josh. George has one sister: Alice Winter who resides in Vernon Hills, IL.

George was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother: Robert Winter and one son: Ronald Winter and his wife Lois.

George was a fine son, a wonderful husband, a great brother, a loving father and grandfather and a friend to many. He will be long missed and never forgotten. We love you always, Dad.

Leona M. Unroe
BORN: June 21, 1912
DIED: March 8, 2013
LOCATION: Decatur, Illinois
Leona M. Unroe 100, of Decatur, passed away at 3:03 a.m., Friday, March 8, 2013, in Fair Havens Christian Home, Decatur.

A service to celebrate Leona's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in the South Macon Township cemetery, Macon, IL. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday morning until service time. Memorials may be made to the Illinois Raptor Center.

Leona was born June 21, 1912, in Macon, IL the daughter of Stewart Lee and Maude (Dunkel) Unroe. During World War II, she went to work for the federal government at the Pentagon and received an award for her service in 1945. Following the war, she moved to Detroit, MI and worked for the Barber Steamship Lines and later for the US Census Department. She enjoyed playing cards, arts and crafts, and her volunteer work. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She also had a passion and love for animals.

Surviving is her sister: Anna M. McLaughlin of Decatur, nieces and nephews: James Lee McLaughlin and his wife Frankie of Tallahassee, FL, Joyce Olsen and her partner Jill of Decatur, Tim McLaughlin and his wife Sally of Decatur, Pamela Martin and her husband David of Decatur, Carl Buesking and his wife Melody of Memphis, TN, Leon Buesking of Bloomington, IL, and Richard Buesking and his wife Becky of Effingham, IL; many great nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sisters, three nephews, a great-niece and a great-nephew.

Sarah E. 'Jackie' Grandfield
BORN: October 28, 1924
DIED: March 10, 2013
LOCATION: Blue Mound, Illinois
Sarah E. 'Jackie' Grandfield, 88, of Blue Mound, IL left us to be with the Lord on Sunday (March 10, 2013) at 11:11 p.m. in her daughter's home surrounded by family that loved her very much.

A service to celebrate Jackie's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday (March 16, 2013) at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Blue Mound. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday in Forbis cemetery, Brownstown, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Brynn 'Hope for a Cure' c/o Hickory Point Bank.

Mrs. Grandfield was born on October 28, 1924 in Vandalia, IL, the daughter of Charles and Maude Mae (Rine) Porter. Jackie worked at Brown's Shoe Factory in Vandalia and cleaned houses in Blue Mound and the State Bank of Blue Mound for 30 years. She enjoyed playing bingo, camping, crocheting and crafts. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Jackie married Claude Edward Grandfield on August 25, 1945.

Surviving is her husband: Claude Edward Grandfield of Blue Mound, IL; children: Claude E. 'Gene' Grandfield and his wife Mary of Blue Mound, IL, Joseph A. Grandfield and his wife Susie E. of Blue Mound, IL, James E. Grandfield and his wife Sue R. of Findlay, IL, Nancy E. Grandfield-Piper and her husband Brett of Blue Mound, IL; sisters: Lavern Buff of St. Elmo, IL and Dorothy Feezel of Decatur, IL; brother: Jim Porter of Mountain Home, AR; 16 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Violet Durbin and Emma Stiner, brother: Charles Porter, granddaughter: Jennie Johnson, special friend: Jeannie Grandfield.

Ruth Beulah George
BORN: November 30, 1913
DIED: March 6, 2013
LOCATION: Decatur, Illinois
Ruth Beulah George 99, of Decatur, IL passed away at 7:10 a.m., Wednesday, March 6, 2013, in Fair Havens Christian Home, Decatur.

A service to celebrate Ruth's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 8, 2013, at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairlawn cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Friday until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Fair Havens Christian Home.

Ruth was born on November 30, 1913, in Decatur, IL the daughter of Elmer N. and Mae L. (Johnson) Helm. She married Carl Thomas George on May 19, 1934. He preceded her in death on September 21, 2003. She was a retired invoice clerk from Sears and Roebuck. She was a former member of the Decatur Community Church. Ruth loved to travel and had been able to travel to all fifty US states, to Europe and China. She also enjoyed many outdoor activities and especially gardening.

Surviving are her nieces and nephews: Joan Burgener of Tampa, FL, Phyllis Thomas of Brandon, FL, Ruth Carol Haynes and her husband Richard of Brandon, FL, Alice Helm of Champaign, Mike George and his wife Trish of Castro Valley, CA, Donna Gregg of California, Jeff Mosby of Cincinnati, OH, and Brad Mosby of Bloomington, IL.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, brother, one great niece and one great nephew.

James Nathaniel 'Nate' Johnson
BORN: March 3, 1993
DIED: March 11, 2013
LOCATION: Decatur, Illinois
James Nathaniel 'Nate' Johnson 20, of Decatur, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 11, 2013.

A service to celebrate Nate's eternal life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 15th, 2013 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Decatur with Pastor Wray Offermann officiating. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park cemetery, Harristown, IL. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the church.

Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel is assisting the family with services.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the Nate Johnson Memorial Fund c/o Town & Country Bank.

Nate was born March 3, 1993 in Decatur, IL the son of James Scott and Laura Suzanne (Spears) Johnson. He attended LSA and MacArthur High School. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Nate loved football and baseball and was an avid dog lover. Nate had a special wit and sense of humor and was loved by all who knew him.

Surviving is his parents: Scott and Laura Johnson of Decatur; brother: Coady Johnson of Decatur; sister: Carlee Johnson of Decatur; paternal grandparents: Robert and Norma Protko of Taylorville, IL; maternal grandparents: Stan and Linda Waddell of Decatur and Roger Spears of Horse Cave, KY many aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.

Mary Lou Larson
BORN: November 7, 1930
DIED: January 6, 2015
LOCATION: Decatur, Illinois
Mary Lou Larson, 84, of Decatur, IL passed away at 2:07 p.m. on Tuesday (Jan. 6, 2015) in McKinley Court.

A service to celebrate Mary Lou's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday (Jan. 10, 2015) at Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel by Pastor Mike Larson. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mary Lou will be laid to rest next to her husband Darrell in North Fork cemetery.

Mary Lou was born at home on November 7, 1930 in Hickory Point Township, IL, the daughter of Davie and Cressie (O'Brien) Pope. She was a Maroa High School graduate and cheer leader. She worked at Muffley Elementary School as a lunch/playground lady. In 1991 she began working at Decatur Memorial Hospital in radiology and later the heart department transporting patients, retiring in 2014. She named Sam and Ella, the tortoises at Scovill Zoo, was a Green Bay Packer and St Louis Cardinals fan. She loved visits with her family and being able to live and care for herself until these past two weeks. She accepted Christ as her savior only a few months ago. Mary Lou married Darrell Larson on May 13, 1951. He preceded her in death on December 26, 2005.

Mary Lou is survived by her children: Gary (Connie) Larson of Decatur, IL, Cheryl (Timmie) Shuppara of Decatur, IL, Mike (Lisa) Larson of O'Fallon, MO, Alan (Debra) Larson of North Port, FL and Russell (Kathy) Larson of Freeport FL; brother: David (Shirley) Pope, Jr. of Maroa, IL; sisters: Betty (Dean) Six of Paris, KY, Jean (Jim) Harrison of Strasburg, CO, Linda Grider of Argenta, IL and Carol Wilber of Forsyth, IL; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her grandson: Lance Larson.

The family expresses its sincere thanks and gratitude for the love and care given her by her co-workers at DMH, Hospice and the staff at McKinley Court.

Elwood L Crutcher

Elwood L. Crutcher, 89, of Shelbyville, IL, formerly of Decatur died Thursday, January 01, 2015 at Hawthorne Inn, Shelbyville.

A service to celebrate Elwood's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 3, 2015) at Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel at 4020 N. Water St. Decatur, IL 62526. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the service time. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery, Decatur with military rites.

Elwood was born in Harristown on October 1, 1925 the middle child of Frank and Bertha (Elliott) Crutcher. He attended Maroa schools. He was a WWII Army Veteran, serving in Italy. He met his future wife, Norma Jean Billings, at Chap's Roller Rink. They were married September 6, 1945. She preceded him on September 23, 1983. He married Delores Gaddis on April 12th 1986 in Shelbyville. Retiring from A.E. Staley, as a pipefitter, with 41 years of service, he and his wife Delores enjoyed spending winters at their Sr. Park home in Orangewood Shadows, Mesa, AZ. He was the pool hall organizer for men's and women's leagues, scorekeeper and 'go to' guy for judge's rules for many years with knowledge he gained working at Tozers Pool Hall in his youth. He enjoyed volunteering at Shelby County Community Services, chaperoning DT Clients to Special Olympics, St. Louis ballgames, camping at Lake Shelbyville and their other activities. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Fighting Illini fan. Elwood was formerly a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, later attending First Baptist Church and Church of Christ in Shelbyville.

Surviving is his wife, Delores, son, Jerry Crutcher and daughter Debra K. (Steven) Smith of Decatur, sister Phyllis Crutcher, Forsyth; grandchildren: Stephanie (Marc) Levenson of Glendale Heights, IL, Chad (Stephanie) Crutcher of Waterman, IL, Jason Crutcher of Decatur and Stacy Smith of Decatur, 7 great-grandchildren; his extended family were: Tom (Valerie) Gaddis, Susan Stephens, Terry (Mitzi) Gaddis of Shelbyville and Tim Gaddis, Taylorville; grandchildren: Sara (Seth) Beeler, Mattoon, Lowell Ross Gaddis, Mt. Zion, Aaron Gaddis, Biloxi, MS and Derek Van Winsen and Duran Gaddis, Branson, MO; 6 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, first wife, Norma, brothers: Frank and Don Crutcher, sister: Margaret Kuntz and step-grandson: Ryan Gaddis.

Memorial gifts may be made to S.C.C.S. client's activity fund, 1810 W.S. 3rd St. Shelbyville, IL or Macon County Honor Guard. The family would like to thank the staff at Hawthorne Inn for their compassionate care during Elwood's residence there and Harbor Light Hospice for their excellent support.

Lois Jean Bartosch

DIED: December 31, 2014

Lois Jean Bartosch 87, of Decatur, IL died Wednesday, December 31, 2014, while visiting her sister in Longwood, Florida.

A service to celebrate Lois's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday January 7, 2015, at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home with Rev. Sig Bjorklund officiating. Burial will be in North Fork cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. until service time, Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Lois was born September 19, 1927, in Decatur, IL the daughter of Raymond and Sadie Holley. All of her life she considered Decatur, Illinois her home. Lois began her work career in 1944 for the Illinois Bell Telephone Company until her retirement in June of 1983. Lois enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Lois was united in marriage to Edward Francis Bartosch on June 15, 1947, in Decatur, IL. This marriage was blessed with two daughters: Sheila and Kathy.

Survivors include her daughter: Sheila Fortney and her husband Bill of Manhattan, KS; sister: Alice Bernice Ecklund of Longwood, FL; grandchildren: Andrew Galligan and his wife Stephanie of Gainesville, FL, Adam Galligan of Decatur, IL, Mathew Galligan of Orlando, FL; Jennifer Fink and her husband Brian of Roeland Park, KS, Alison Gerth and her husband Andrew of Manhattan, KS, and seven precious great-grandchildren: Emma, Addison, Cooper, Aiden, Abbigail, Alexander, and Morgan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister: Mary Ellen Walch and her daughter Kathy.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Kairouz of Decatur, IL and Dr. Al Hazzouri of Orlando, FL for all their care and compassion shown to Lois.
