LAGE, Ethel Mae Seifert

Ethel Mae Lage, 61, of Gibson City died at 11:40 p.m. Friday 9-22-1989 at Gibson Community Hospital, Gibson City. Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, the Rev. Melvin Blobaum officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Church cemetery, rural Anchor. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. She was born 1-26-1928 in Cropsey, a daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Taylor Seifert. She married Wayne R. Lage 2-27-1949 in Cropsey. He died 12-8-1982. Survivors include three sons, Keith Lage, Dennis Lage and Brian Lage, all of Gibson City; two brothers, Delmar Seifert, Bloomington; and Keith Seifert of Sibley; three sisters, Bernelda Miller of Cropsey; Thelma Benway, Strawn; and Velda Henry, Sibley; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother. Mrs. Lage lived in Gibson City since 1957. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor.

LAGE, Paul

Paul Lage, youngest son of Mr. H.G. Lage, was born in Anchor Twp 8-28-1896. He was baptized in infancy and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith when a youth. He was married to Mizz Zola Holz of Sibley in February 1922. This union was blessed with two children. Mr. Lage had been in frail health for years and had to spend much time at the hospital. He passed away at Brokaw Hospital, Bloomington, Sunday afternoon 12-21-1930, aged 34 years, 3 mos and 25 days. He leaves to mourn his death, his loving wife, his two children, Virgil and Virginia, his father, H.G. Lage, two brothers, Henry and Carl Lage, and a sister, Mrs. Julius (Caroline) Landau and many other relatives and friends. The funeral was held from the home in Anchor at 3 p.m. Tuesday and from St. John's Lutheran Church at 3:30 p.m., the Rev. A. Hahn officiated; burial was in the church cemetery.

LAGE, Rodell H.

The funeral of Rodell H. Lage, 72, of Hoopeston, formerly of Anchor, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor, the Rev. Melvin C. Blobaum officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Hamilton-Orr Funeral Home, Hoopeston had charge of arrangements. Mr. Lage died at 1:20 p.m. Sunday 9-4-1994 at Hoopeston Community Memorial Hospital. He was born 10-4-1921 at Anchor, a son of Carl A. and Marie Hoffman Lage. He married Lanna Rae Dickerson Engel 1-13-1951 at Bloomington and she survives. Other survivors include three sons, Tarry and Larry, both of Rochelle; and Darry, Elliott; two brothers, Willard, Normal, and Arnold, Arrowsmith; three sisters, Laverne Frankenberger and Bess Bielfeldt, both of Bloomington, and Cleo Kyle, Normal; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. One brother and one sister preceded him in death. He farmed in the Anchor area for many years, and was later employed by Stokely-Van Camp in Hoopeston for 22 years. He retired in 1988. Memorials may be made to the Hoopeston Community Memorial Hospital and St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor.

LAGE, Wayne R.

Wayne R. Lage, 57, a Gibson City resident for 24 years and a Central Soya Co., Inc. employee, died at 8:35 a.m. yesterday 12-8-1982 at his home. An inquiry was conducted and death was due to natural causes. His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lamb Funeral Home, the Rev. Alexander Youck officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran cemetery, near Anchor. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Lage was born 12-7-1925, near Anchor, a son of Carl and Marie Hoffman Lage. He married Ethel Mae Siefert 2-27-1949 at Cropsey. She survives. Also surviving are three sons, Keith W. of Elliott; Dennis of Gibson City and Brian of Gibson City; three brothers, Willard of Bloomington, Arnold of Arrowsmith, and Rodell of Hoopeston; three sisters, Luverne Frankeberger and Bess Bielfeldt of Bloomington; and Cleo Kyle of Normal and three granddaughters. His parents and a sister preceded him in death. Mr. Lage had been employed at Central Soya for 25 years, most of the time as a truck driver. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor, the Gibson City Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge and the Elliott AMVETS.

LANDAU, Alfred O.

The funeral of Alfred O. Landau, age 74 of Gibson City will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City with the Reverend Melvin Blobaum officiating. Burial will be St. John's Lutheran Church cemetery, Anchor. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Landau died at 8:50 a.m. Sunday 9-18-1994 at Gibson Community Hospital, Gibson City. He was born 1-31-1920 at Anchor, a son of Otto and Marie Janssen Landau. He never married . Survivors include one sister, Anna Retter of Fairbury and one brother, Alva of Gibson City. Mr. Landau was a farmer and lived most of his life in the Gibson City area. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor and Laborers Union Local 7751, Kankakee.

LANDAU, Alva F.

Alva F. Landau, 80, of Gibson City died at 6:55 a.m. Friday 8-27-1999 at Gibson Area Hospital, Gibson City. His graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran cemetery, Anchor, the Rev. Robert Ferro officiating. Military rites will be accorded by the Lee Lowery American Legion Post No. 568. Visitation will be from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. Monday at Lamb Fuenral Home, Gibson City. He was born 10-27-1918 at Anchor, a son of Otto and Marie Janssen Landau. He married Ethel Mae Wise on 8-14-1944 at St. Louis, Mo. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Alfred O. Landau, Gibson City; and one sister, Anna Retter, Fairbury. His parents, one daughter and one brother preceded him in death. Mr. Landau was an Army veteran of WWII and a member of the Lee Lowery American Legion Post No 568. He was employed by several area grain firms as a laborer and, upon retirement, volunteered many hours and years to the Lee Lowery American Legion Post No 568.

LINDAUER, Donald Benjamin

Donald Benjamin Lindauer, 64, of Saybrook died at 8:31 a.m. yesterday 10-12-1990 at Gibson Community Hospital, Gibson City. His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor, the Rev. Melvin C. Blobaum officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Sunday at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Saybrook. He was born 9-7-1926 in Spring Lake, a son of Benjamin and Irene Meints Lindauer. He married Charlene Seibring 6-19-1948 in Paxton. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Donald Eugene Lindauer, Saybrook; three daughters,, Chare Robinson, Saybrook; Tina Fugate, Bloomington; two brothers, Robert Lindauer, Loda; and Willis Lindauer, Suisin City, Ca; and four grandchildren. For 20 years, Mr. Lindauer was owner and operator of a fertilizer plant and oil company for Standard Oil Co. at Bellflower. He was a member of the Lapidary Club of Bloomington and Champaign. Memorials may be made to Gibson Community Hospital, Gibson City.

LAWRENCE, Gilbert

DEATH OF GILBERT LAWRENCE (Colfax Press, Thursday, 22 July 1926)
Gilbert Lawrence, aged resident of Colfax, died at his home here at 3:40 o'clock, Friday afternoon following an illness of ten days with organic heart trouble. Mr. Lawrence was born near Cambridge, Ohio, August 10, 1837, a member of a family of ten children. He spent his early life in that state and in 1861 he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Ross at Otsego. In September, 1864, Mr. Lawrence, with his family came to Illinois and located on a farm in McLean County, near Colfax. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence have lived in town for twenty-four years. After the death of his first wife, Mr. Lawrence was married to Eliza A. Starkey at Cooksville on March 9, 1892. Besides his wife Mr. Lawrence is survived by a brother, Newton Lawrence of Cambridge, Ohio, also two children, Mrs. Lydia Harris and Wesley Lawrence of Colfax. Two children, Belle and Avery died in infancy, and three daughters, Eliza, Mrs. L. E. Broadwell and Mrs. Wesley Hurt, preceded him in death. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. The funeral services were held from the Colfax Methodist church at 2 o'clock on Sunday afternoon, Rev. Arthur Cates, pastor officiating. Interment was in Wiley cemetery. The singers were Mrs. A. L. Hutson, Mrs. Arthur Cates, Don and S. Bane. The pall bearers were Harvey Hamilton, Richard Hamilton, Frank Stauffer, E. J. Harris, James Harris, and S. E. Daniels. Those from away who attended the funeral were Newton Lawrence and daughter, and Wesley Brower of Cambridge, Ohio; Earl Starkey of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; George, Harvey and John Swan and wife of Aroma Park; John O'dell and wife, Miss Agnes Broadwell, and Mrs. James Lawrence of Fairbury.

LEONARD, Patrick

OLD CITIZEN GONE - Patrick Leonard (SEPT. 28, 1901 edition of The Colfax Press)
The death of Patrick Leonard occurred at his home in Lawndale township Sunday morning at 4 o'clock. He had been in bad health for a long while and had been quite feeble for several weeks. His death was caused by stomach trouble. The interment took place in the Catholic church at Chenoa on Tuesday after services by Rev. Father O'Callahan. Mr. Leonard was born in county Mead, Ireland, Sept. 8, 1834 and came to America in 1853. After four years in the east, most of his life was spent in McLean County. The last twenty-three years he lived in Lawndale township. On July 2, 1869, he married Bridget Crayon. Eight children were born to them. The wife survives, together with seven of the children: James, Thomas, Joseph, Mrs. Dan Fitzpatrick, Mrs. Tim Shine, Mrs. Frank Fishback, and Mrs. Edward Gross. He was thrifty and industrious and at his death owned 382 acres of land, and other property. He was partially blind for six years, and totally blind for twelve years. He bore his affliction without a murmur, and was esteemed as a good citizen and a kind neighbor.

MARRIN, Anna Marie Riecks

Anna Marie Marrin, 98, a resident of Octavia Manor Nursing Home, Colfax, since 1985, died at 9:15 a.m. 11-5-1989 at the nursing home. Her funeral was at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax, Rev. Melvin C. Blobaum and Rev. Kathryn Bielfeldt officiating; burial in the St. John's Lutheran Church cemetery, Anchor. Soloist was Rev. Kathryn Bielfeldt. Pallbearers were Lyle Riecks, Eugene Riecks, Harold Bielfeldt, Edwin Bielfeldt, Rodell Bielfeldt andd Phillip Barclay. Visitation was from 10 - 11 a.m. Wednesday at the memorial home. She was born 5-14-1891 in Anchor, a daughter of Edward and Eliza George Riecks. She married Michael G. Marrin on 4-21-1921 in Denver. He died 8-29-1951. Surviving are two half-sisters, Irma Mueller, Westminister, Ca., and Rita Riecks, San Angelo, Tx. Additional survivors include four nieces, Marge Cumpston, Anchor; Irene Kennedy, Anchor; Bunny, Calif.; and Barbara Jean Danburg, Houston, Tx.; seven nephews, Edwin Bielfeldt, Anchor; Harold Bielfeldt, Bloomington; Rodell Bielfeldt, Gibson City; Lyle Riecks, Anchor; Eugene Riecks, Anchor; Ronald Vail, San Diego, Ca.; and Glen Mueller, Calif. She was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters. Mrs. Marrin, a former resident of Bloomington, attended school in Chicago where she later worked for Armour and Co. as a secretary. She had formerly lived in Denver, Tulsa, Ok, and Joliet. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor, to which memorials may be made.

MARTENS, Cornelia Saathoff

Mrs. Cornelia Martens, 88, died at her home at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday 4-3-1956. She had been in failing health for two years and seriously ill a week. She was taken to the Harper Funeral Home at Colfax. Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Anchor; burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at Harper Funeral Home, Colfax, Thursday afternoon and evening and at the church from noon - 2 p.m. Friday. She was born 8-24-1857 near Benson, a daughter of John and Augusta Meiners Saathoff. She was married to Jacob Martens 2-3-1887. He died 7-27-1933. Surviving are three daughters, Miss Minnie Martens, at home; Miss Margaret Martens, Shoals, Ind.; Mrs. Ella Wolverton, Ionia, Mich.; two sons, John W. of Anchor and J. Louis of Normal; two sisters, Mrs.. Mary Remmers, Pasadena, Ca.; Mrs. Sina Mulhausen, Wichita, Kans.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Two children died in infancy. She was the oldest resident of Anchor and of St. John's Lutheran Church and was a member of the Ladies Aid Society of the Church.
