Gerald T. Havey, M.D., 83, of Lake Forest, died April 30, 2012 at Westmoreland Nursing Center. Dr. Havey was board certified and recently served on the staffs of Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan since 1985, Condell Medical Center in Libertyville since 2001 and served on the hospital staff of St. Therese Medical Center in Waukegan from 1980 until it closed in 2005. In 1948 he graduated from Marquette University in Pre-Med and in 1952 from Marquette’s School of Medicine receiving his M.D. From 1952-1953 he served his internship rotation at St. Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee. From 1953-1955 he served as a Commissioned Officer in the Medical Corp of the U. S. Army (Germany). He served his residency in Internal Medicine at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit where he also completed his Post Graduate Specialty in Gastroenterology (1958-1959). Dr. Havey then began his private, solo practice in Lake Forest (1959-1984). Dr. Havey's active medical practice spanned over 50 years. Father of Thomas J., Terence P., Maureen E. (Ed McMillen), Michael (Jill) and Brian R. Havey; Grandfather of Lauren T. and Ellen T. Havey. Funeral mass 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 17 at the Church of St. Mary, Lake Forest. Michael Patrick Gannon passed away in his dorm room at Boston College on April 28, 2012. He was born in Mexico City, Mexico on April 2, 1992 and has been traveling the world ever since. Michael, his parents, Jeff and Chrystal, and sister, Michelle, lived in Beijing, Hong Kong, and Singapore for most of Michael’s childhood. They moved to Lake Forest, Illinois in 1998 and still reside there. Michael attended Lake Forest High School becoming a 4-year Varsity letter-winner and school record-holder in both swimming and water polo. Michael continued to swim at the Division I Varsity level and pursued his true passion of water polo on the Boston College club team. Michael was a student in the Carroll School of Management at BC and planned to intern for Honeywell in China this summer. He had also been accepted to study at the University of Melbourne next spring. Michael was a lover of dogs, singing, sea animals, and dancing. Michael enjoyed a full, fast, and passionate life. In addition to his parents and sister, Michael is survived by his grandparents, George and Paula Michel. He leaves behind countless friends, admiring teammates, brilliant classmates, and a beloved family. Michael never knew the profound impact he had on this world and the people he touched. Michael will be fiercely missed and deeply loved to forever honor his memory. Marilyn J. Sroka nee Davis, 80, passed away April 28, 2012 in Lake Forest, IL Wife of the late Henry M. Sroka (2009); Mother of Kari Johnston, Greg Sroka, Ellen Sroka and Tina Sroka; Beloved MorMor of Gunnar and Keifer Sroka, Alexa Anderson and grand- kitty Bart. Originally hailing from Sioux Falls, SD, Marilyn wanted to live in the big city and moved to Chicago in her early 20”s. Married for 51 years, Marilyn always made family a priority. She loved spending time with family and friends, gardening, traveling and just having fun. Her funeral service and interment will be private. A memorial celebration is being planned and will be announced at a later date. Ida Clayton Standley, age 89, passed away at her home in Lake Forest on April 22, 2012. Ida was the greatly beloved wife of 66 years of Wendell E. Standley, loved and loving mother of her son Robert and daughter-in-law Patricia and adored and adoring grandmother of her granddaughter Kristin. Ida was born in Lynchburg, Virginia to Frederick and Emma Thomas in 1923. She was preceded in death by her brothers Frederick Thomas and John Thomas and sisters Elsie Horney and Jessie Lokrantz. She is survived by her sisters Betty Woodward and Mollie Thomas. Ida was a resident of Lake Forest for 57 years. She began volunteering at Lake Forest Hospital in 1956, ultimately becoming the Director of Volunteer Services there for 15 years until her retirement in 1987. During this time she served in multiple offices of both the Chicago and Illinois Societies of Directors of Volunteer Services. She was active in numerous other organizations as well, including the Lake Forest Women’s Club, the Lake Forest College Women’s Board, the AAUW, the Renaissance Club of the Art Institute and the Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Historical Society. She received several awards in recognition of her community service over the years, including being honored as Grand Marshal of the Lake Forest Day parade in 1990. Her giving spirit, leavened with a sparkling wit and creativity, will be missed. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to the charity of your choice.

Thomas R. Meeks, age 77 of Lake Forest, IL and formerly of New York City, died at home on April 20, 2012. He served in Hawaii as an aerial photographer during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Iona College in New Rochelle, NY and received his law degree from New York University in 1962. He practiced law and later went on to be a director at the Mutual of New York Life Insurance Company. He lived in Lake Forest for 36 years, but his heart was always on Swans Island on the coast of Maine where he summered for over 40 years. He and his wife Selene celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2009. He is survived by his wife Selene, son Thomas (Holly), and grandchildren Forster, Finn and Eleanor. He is also survived by his sister Marie Maguire and six nephews and nieces. Joseph “Joe” Dye of Lake Bluff passed away on April 19, 2012. He was born on July 13, 1928 in Anderson, Indiana and grew up on a nearby farm where his family raised beef cattle and he was active in 4-H. He graduated from Indiana University, Harvard Law School, and Chicago Theological Seminary and served as an officer in the Air Force. During the early part of his career, he practiced labor law first with Baker & Daniels in Indianapolis, and later with the Borg Warner Corporation in Chicago. After completing divinity school in 1983, he became a United Church of Christ minister, serving churches as both a called pastor in Boynton Beach, Florida and in Barrington, Rhode Island, and as an interim pastor in a number of churches in the greater Chicago area. During this period, he led numerous church tours of Scotland, England, China, Austria, and Germany. For 20 years, he was an active member of the Theatre of Western Springs as both an actor and a director and was a member of the Illinois Arts Council. In recent years, he has been an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest, Illinois and member of the Sanctuary Choir. He is survived by his wife, Sue Conolly Dye, four children, Frances Minchew, Janet Magee (Steve), Joseph “Jay” Dye, and Candace Etzler (Emil), two stepchildren, John Conolly (Sandra), and Suzanne Myers (Mike), seven grandchildren, Matthew, Megan, Joseph, Charlie, Mark, Eli, and Kari, one great grandchild, Jason, and his former wife Sally Dye of Boynton Beach, Florida. He was preceded in death by his grandson Jason. Memorial service 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest.
