Arthur M. Baker, Jr., 79, a lifelong resident of Lake Forest, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2009 surrounded by family members. He was born August 26, 1930 at Lake Forest Hospital. Arthur served in the Korean War in the 2nd Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Korean Service Medal with one Silver Star and the Medal of Valor for his heroism. Upon his return to Lake Forest he worked alongside his father and brother at Peter Baker Son & Company. In 1989 he formed Rondout Rockland Corporation where he worked up until his death. He served on the Board of Directors at Northern Trust Bank and on the Building Committee at Lake Forest Hospital. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 264, a member of the Knollwood Sportsman Club and Halter Wildlife. Arthur was an avid sportsman who loved golfing, hunting and fishing on Rainy Lake at Brule Island in Canada. Philanthropy was very important to Arthur. Throughout the years his generous support included Carmel Catholic High School, Lake Forest Hospital, Lambs Farm and other various organizations. He is survived by his sister Elaine, his 5 children Laura (fiancé Bill) of Tampa, FL, Nancy of Green Oaks, William of Corbin, KY, Donna (Corky) Baker Bishop of Charlottesville, VA and Susan (Craig) Phillips of Libertyville, 10 grandchildren, Courtney (Steve) Hardie, Justin, Kimberly, Matthew, Christopher, Scott, Michelle, Andrew, Nicole and Kathryne, and 2 great grandsons, Camden and Beckett. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Arthur Sr. and Erna and his brothers Peter and Russell. Visitation 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday, November 13th at Wenban Funeral Home, 320 E. Vine Avenue, Lake Forest, IL 60045. Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 2009 the Church of St. Mary, 175 E. Illinois Road, Lake Forest, IL 60045. Final resting place will be at St. Mary’s Fremont Center. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Lake Forest Hospital or Lambs Farm. Info: (847) 234-0022

Walter Nicolet
May 13, 1924 - December 06, 2009
of Lake Bluff, Illinois
Walter Ogden Nicolet, age 85, died on December 6, 2009, at his home in Lake Bluff, Illinois, of natural causes. Born in Canton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Theodore Nicolet and Vera Ogden. In 1942, at the age of 18, Walt enlisted in the newly formed Army Air Force. He flew numerous combat missions with the Flying Tigers, was shot down over China, and spent over a month traveling on foot through enemy territory until he safely reached Allied lines. Upon his honorable discharge from the army, Walt returned to Ohio where he attended Hiram College. Following his graduation, Walt began working at Union Metal Manufacturing and married Nancy Froelich, also of Canton, Ohio. Walt was subsequently promoted and transferred to Illinois, where he resided in Lake Bluff for the remainder of his life. Following his retirement, he pursued hobbies and enjoyed family and friends. He will be remembered for his kindness, resilience, and independence. He is survived by his daughter Michelle Nicolet and her husband, Marshall Burt of Chicago; his daughter Denise Groth and her husband, David, of Sugar Land, Texas; and four grandchildren, Madeline, Taylor, Nicholas, and Kathryn. He was preceded in death by his son, Walter F. Nicolet of Lake Bluff. A private memorial will be held. Info: Wenban Funeral Home, Lake Forest, 847-234-0022

Kathryn I. Potter, 93, a longtime resident of Highland Park died January 11, 2010. Member of the Highland Park Woman’s Club, Highland Park Republican Club, Order of the Eastern Star and the Highland Park Senior Center. Wife of the late Clarence Potter (1992). Mother of Kathryn Keiper of Chicago and Jill (Steven) Lauer of Lake Forest. Grandmother of Kristin Smith, Marney Tufo, Jodie Keiper, Erin Keiper and Jim, Joe and Beth Lauer. Great Grandmother of Taylor, Natalie and Dignan. Sister of Margaret Pettinato of Scranton, PA. She was preceded in death by her siblings William Steinbruegge and Marion Soule. No Visitation. Memorial Service 1:00 Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 425 Laurel Avenue, Highland Park, Il 60035 with reception to follow. Interment Private. Mueller, Donna Dean Klann: Donna died peacefully with her family by her side on December 7, 2009. She was born on September 1, 1934 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She graduated from Downer’s Seminary and then received a degree in Art History from Wellesley College. Living much of her life in Lake Forest, Illinois, she was the first female President of the Lake Forest High School Board of Education. She was also on the Lake Forest Zoning Board as well as the Lake Forest Planning Board. In addition, she was President of Family Services of Lake County as well as serving on the boards of the Independence Center, the Hadley School for the Blind and A Safe Place. Her lifelong interest in the arts continued while serving on the boards of The Art Institute of Chicago and the Chicago Botanic Garden.Donna was a worldwide traveller and enjoyed telling her family and friends of her wonderful adventures to all 7 continents, the North Pole, the Amazon and many places in between. She was an avid and competitive tennis and paddle tennis player but was always a frustrated golfer. Her knowledge of sports was only superseded by her enjoyment of both preparing and attending lectures on authors, art history and architecture. She enjoyed word games, bridge, gardening and classical music. And Donna would always have a book nearby even while listening to the loons on Trout Lake in Northern Wisconsin, her favorite place in the world. She is survived by her children John (Anne), Steve (Kathy) and Kam Walters (Jamie) and her ten wonderful grandchildren: Steve, Jennifer, Chris, Ryan, Brett, Kelly, Blake, Cori, Jeff and John. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

Jerrold “Jerry” Hansen, 80, recently of Lincolnshire formerly a longtime resident of Lake Forest died December 28, 2009 at Manor Care in Libertyville. Mr. Hansen was born August 11, 1929 in Lake Forest. 1947 graduate of Lake Forest High School where in 1946 he was named All-State football player. He then attended Michigan State University. Served with the Seabees during the Korean War and later retired after 34 years as a plumber with Great Lakes Plumbing and Heating. Jerry was a longtime volunteer in Lake Forest at Westmoreland, Deer Path School and Kinderhaven. Husband of Alice. Brother of the late T.J. Hansen of York, Maine. Brother-in-law of Marcia (the late Jim) Griffiths of Des Moines, IA. Visitation 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Wenban Funeral Home, 320 E. Vine Ave. Lake Forest, IL 60045. Emily Norcross Adamson of Evanston, Illinois, formerly of Lake Forest, Illinois, died peacefully on November 30th at the Presbyterian Home in Evanston. She was 98. Born January 6, 1911 in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Edward Powers Norcross and Emma Elizabeth Dyas Deckee Norcross. She grew up in Highland Park. She was a graduate of Kemper Hall, Kenosha, Wisconsin and Northwestern University. She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon Adamson, and her two brothers, Dr. Pliny (Nancy Dangler) Norcross of Amherst, Massachusetts and Edward Powers (Harriett Weisbach) Norcross, Jr. of Titusville, Florida. She is survived by her two children: Katharine J. Adamson, wife of David H. Kraemer, of New Canaan, Connecticut, and Henry N. Adamson of Lake Forest, and two grandchildren, Emily D. Kraemer of Norwalk, Connecticut and Paul A. Kraemer of Boulder, Colorado. Anne Leavitt died January 7, 2010. She was born in Kansas City, MO in 1910, one of eight children. Her father was a prominent art dealer in Kansas City. Her talent and her artistic nature were evident early in her life and she was awarded a scholarship to the Kansas City Art Institute. She met Jim Leavitt her future husband in Kansas City and they were married in 1936. This marriage lasted until his death in 1994. During those 58 years she raised three children, Pamela (Michael A.) Miles, Jim Leavitt, Jr. and Susan (Willoughby G.) Walling. She was treasured by her six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren over whom she dotted. Her husband was an avid and accomplished golfer and she patiently indulged him in this pursuit. The embodiment of a positive mental attitude, she had many friends and was a sought after bridge partner. In her clothing and home décor she revealed her sense of style and love of beauty. She had many friends who valued her warmth, charm and lively mind. She lived a wonderful life. No visitation. Please omit flowers.
