Shaw

DECATUR -- Margaret Maxine "Maggie" Shaw of Decatur died Monday morning (Dec. 2, 2002) in her home.

There will be no visitation or services. Her desire to be cremated will be honored. Arrangements are by Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home.

Maggie began her journey on Aug. 8, 1924, in a very small Kansas village of Wayne, the daughter and only child of George and Nell Cooper Thomas. Young adult life was in Salina. She married Selwyn P. Shaw on April 22, 1946, in Kansas City, Kan., and was an Air Force wife for a few months at Langley Field, Va. Most of her life was spent as a homemaker at which she excelled. She had a son and daughter in 11 months, supporting her husband who worked and completed degree work at Bradley University. She was an avid protector of family and friends, did her duty with parent-teacher association, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, Masonic Lodge and Methodist church. Her family became multinational when son and daughter married Canadian nationals -- a welcome addition to the family.

Surviving are her husband, Selwyn; daughter, Selene Sue Ibey and husband Rob of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; grandsons, Howard Downey and Shawn Downey and wife Terri of Calgary; son, Selwyn Jr. and wife Jo-Anne of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; grandson, Tyler Page Shaw of Toronto; almost family, Linda Watson of Columbus, Mo.

Along Maggie's journey, she loved vacations in Hawaii, Lake Louise in Alberta and Wasaga Beach in Ontario. At home, she was proud of her flower gardens and backyard birds and squirrels.

She reached that final destination early this morning (Dec. 2, 2002), peaceful with courage.

I'm sure she would want to say "hello" to Edna Wilder and special "good-byes" to Betty, Doty, Ann, Mary Ann, Debbie, Mary J., Irene, Billy Ann and Las Vegas.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Our family offers our love, respect and eternal gratitude for being a part of your family. Maggie knew she was No. 1 and did not fear competition from the 397th Bomb Group of World War II, nor the 46 years with Caterpillar family.

Tell my friends and family to remember me as we each were when we last met. Many good memories.
