Bright

DECATUR -- Jon Branson Bright, 50, of Oklahoma City, Okla., formerly of Decatur, died Sunday (Jan. 25, 2003).

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Dawson & Wikoff Colonial Chapel North with visitation 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery. Memorials: Decatur Children's Museum.

Jon was born Jan. 9, 1953, in Fairfield, the son of Edward Merle and Julia L. Bright. He was a 1971 graduate of MacArthur High School. He attended Texas A&M University, graduating with a master's degree in civil engineering in 1976. In 1976, he was on one of the tall sailing ships that was part of the centennial celebration in Washington, D.C. In 1966, at age 13, Jon received the Carneige Institute Medal for heroism and the Boy Scout Award for heroism. He received these as a result of pushing two men from railroad tracks as a train was approaching. He worked for Marathon Oil Co. as an environmental engineer, traveling extensively overseas. Later, he transferred to the environmental engineering department in Oklahoma City. Jon married Renee Lefave in 1987 in Findlay, Ohio.

Surviving are his sons, Todd, Miles and William, all of Tulsa, Okla.; parents of Forsyth; brothers, Jim Bright and wife Kelly of Norman, Okla.; Paul Bright and wife Linda of Houston, Texas; sisters, Sara Ross and husband Blake of Pleasant Plains; Laura Moon and husband Joel of Broken Arrow, Okla.

Manning

ARGENTA -- Jesse Wayne Manning, 18, of Argenta died 9:55 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 26, 2003) on Macon County Highway 25 in Oakley Township.

Memorial services will be 6 p.m. Thursday in Argenta-Oreana High School, Argenta, with the Rev. Michael Wakeland officiating. Private family visitation will be 5 p.m. Thursday in Calvert Funeral Home, Argenta. Memorials: Jesse Manning Memorial Fund in care of Gerber State Bank, Argenta.

Jesse was born at home on Feb. 10, 1984, in Argenta, the son of Robert D. and Margaret "Peggy" Thrasher Manning. He was affiliated with Argenta Presbyterian Church. He graduated in 2002 from Argenta-Oreana High School. He made the 2A State football team his senior year, threw discus and shot put in track and wrestled in IKWF and two years in high school. His musical interests included playing drums, guitar, piano and other instruments, and he was a drummer for a local band. He was currently a freshman at Richland Community College and member of YMCA.

Surviving are his parents of Argenta; grandparents, Robert and Veronica Thrasher of Corona, Calif.; aunts and uncles, Richard and Shirley Wallace of Argenta; Max and Susie Krutsinger of Macon; Dan and Sally Manning of Decatur; David and Diana Manning of Argenta; Jane Tipton of Decatur; Freddieann and Doyle Green and Kim Stoter, all of California; Kim and Sherry Thrasher of Virginia; Phillip Thrasher of Colorado; Steve and Carol Thrasher of California; many special cousins, several great-aunts and great-uncles and numerous friends; brothers and sisters, Lori Manning of New Jersey; Danny D. (Lisa) Manning and Phillip Manning, all of Argenta.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wayne and Maxine Manning.

We would like to express our thanks to all who assisted at the accident scene. Our prayers and thoughts go out to all of Jesse's friends.

Scheibly

DECATUR -- K. Rosemary Scheibly, 78, Decatur, died Tuesday (Jan. 28, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home.

Clark

DECATUR -- Ernest D. Clark, 67, of Decatur passed away 7:12 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 26, 2003) in St. Mary's Hospital with his family at his side.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with visitation one hour before services. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Riverton, with military rites by the Sangamon County Inter-Veterans Burial Detail. Memorials: French Quarters Nursing Home.

Mr. Clark was born Jan. 14, 1936, in Hunt City, the son of Ernest D. Clark Sr. and Annie Viola Hart Clark. He was the retired owner and operator of Ernie's Amoco Station in Decatur. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He married Darlene King on Dec. 8, 1979, in Decatur.

Surviving are his wife; daughters, Vera Willis and husband Kim of Danville; Roxanna Sturgeon of Fort Meyers, Fla.; Tammy Kutik and husband Matt of Orlando, Fla.; sons, Michael Clark and wife Diane of Moline; Jim McDaniel and Rick McDaniel, both of Decatur; several brothers and sisters; seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

David

DECATUR -- Suzanne David, 65, of Decatur died 1:29 p.m. Monday (Jan. 27, 2003) in St. Mary's Hospital after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in Pilgrim Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials: ALS Foundation or Pilgrim Lutheran Church.

Suzanne was born April 11, 1937, in Decatur, the daughter of Kenneth and Lillian Klingbiel Bundy. She was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church, GWRRA Chapter I and was employed as a bookkeeper for Atlas Travel for 29 years, retiring in 2002. She married Donald D. David on June 25, 1954, in Decatur.

Surviving are her husband, Don; daughters, Pamela Mann and husband Jim of Hammond; Janet Lotz and husband Michael of Marietta, Ga.; Susan Perini and husband Tony of Duluth, Ga.; mother of Decatur; sisters, Nancy Jacobs and husband Bob and Shirley Elam and husband Les, all of Decatur; brothers, Patrick Bundy and wife Jean of Beaver Creek, Ohio; Mike Bundy and wife Cretta of Decatur; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father; grandson, Dallas Mann; grandmother; grandfather and one uncle.

Harrison

DECATUR -- Alice Lanice Harrison, 71, Decatur, homemaker, died Sunday (Jan. 26, 2003).

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday in Star of Hope Chapel, Graceland Cemetery. Visitation: one hour before services in the mausoleum. Burial: Star of Hope Mausoleum. Arrangements by: Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Memorials: American Diabetes. Association.

Helm

DECATUR -- Joseph E. Helm, 49, of Decatur died 11:28 a.m. Monday (Jan. 27, 2003) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home with visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Bement Cemetery. Memorials: to the family.

Mr. Helm was born March 23, 1953, in Bement, the son of Ernest and Mary E. Whalen Helm. He was a repairman at J&H Electronics. He was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God and later attended Heartland Community Church. He married Maureen K. Lee on July 5, 1973, in Bement.

Surviving are his wife; mother of Decatur; brother, John W. Helm and wife Donna of Roanoke, Va.; sister, Carolyn Damery and husband Jeffery of Mount Zion; half brothers, Robert Helm and wife Wanda of Moberly, Mo.; Gene Helm and wife Faye of Boody; half sister, Hazel Walsh of Springfield, Mo.; nephews, Justin Helm and Ryan Helm, both of Roanoke; Jerod Damery and wife Jennifer of Creston; Caleb Damery and fiancee Lindsey Watson of Mount Zion.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

The family would like to give a special thank-you to the congregation of Heartland Community Church for their continued support and prayers and the staff at Decatur Memorial Hospital ICU department.

Pfeifer

DECATUR -- George A. Pfeifer, 87, of Decatur died 12:30 a.m. Monday (Jan. 27, 2003) in ManorCare Health Services.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday in Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes with visitation 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Boiling Springs Cemetery. Memorials: ManorCare Health Services or Cancer Care Specialist of Decatur.

George was born Dec. 3, 1915, in Decatur, the son of George M. and Florence V. Barger Pfeifer. He was employed at Wagner Castings Co. for 41 years until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of ABC and Decatur Men's Bowling Association. George was past president of the Goodfellow League at The Bowl for 18 years and was a past member of the Elks. He married G. Eileene Davis on Sept. 3, 1939, in St. Charles, Mo.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Eileene; daughters, Rebecca Bird and husband Carl of Warrensburg; Cassandra Welborn and husband Michael of Orlando, Fla.; grandchildren, Scott Bird and wife Denise of Warrensburg; Chandra Bird of Dallas, Texas; great-grandchildren, Taylor McKenzie Bird and Alyssa Danielle Bird, both of Warrensburg; sisters, Thelma Williamson, Alice Bailey, Ellen Marsh, Lois Woodard and husband Charles and Martha Smith, all of Decatur; Barbara Corley and husband Wilson of Woodbridge, Va.; brothers, Jack Pfeifer and wife Rose of Keyesport; Robert Pfeifer of Las Vegas, Nev.; sisters-in-law, Rosemond Stone and Mary Davis, both of Decatur; 10 nephews; 18 nieces; "the cousins"; his dog, Dude.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, four sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and great-grandson, Ian Montgomery Bird.

The family gives a special thanks to ManorCare Health Services, Pam and Randy Hopwood and all of the bowling friends, cousins and neighbors.

Hood

DECATUR -- Britton Eugene Hood, 69, of Vilonia, Ark., formerly of Decatur, died Sunday (Jan. 26, 2003) in Baptist Medical Center, Little Rock, Ark.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home with visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown. Memorials: donor's choice.

Mr. Hood was born July 26, 1933, in Mount Zion, the son of Hubert H. and Myrtle Britton Hood. He was a security guard at St. Mary's Hospital, a printer for Rand McNally and a member of the 25-year club at Rand McNally and Masonic Lodge of Decatur. He was a Korean War Army veteran.

Surviving are his sons, Lynn Hood and wife Kim of Decatur; Brian Hood of Carbondale; daughter, Pamela Hood of Vilonia; grandchildren, Seth Hood of Twin Lakes, Mich.; Haley Hood of Vilonia; Gabrielle Hood of Decatur; Kerianne Hood and Zoey Isabelle Hood, both of Decatur; Brianna Hood of Vilonia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Knifka

DECATUR -- Alice P. Knifka, 96, Decatur, retired from the Internal Revenue Service, died Sunday (Jan. 26, 2003).

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes. Visitation: one hour before services. Burial: Two Mile Grove Cemetery, Latham. Memorials: Shriner's Hospitals for Children or donor's choice.

Stonecipher

MOUNT ZION -- Nellie Stonecipher, 93, of Mount Zion passed away peacefully at home with her dog, Charlie, Monday (Jan. 27, 2003).

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mount Zion, with visitation one hour before services. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery.

Mrs. Stonecipher was born Feb. 7, 1909, in Lawrenceberg, Ky., the daughter of S.P. and Lona Yocham Cammack. She was a homemaker. She married Ralph E. Stonecipher on Aug. 29, 1929. He preceded her in death Feb. 14, 2002.

Surviving are her sisters, Cora Rusk of Corydon, Ind.; Ann Boldini and Georgia Tilton, both of Decatur; grandchildren, Scott Stonecipher of Mount Zion; Wendy Sparks and husband Michael of Enterprise, Ala.; Tonya Brooks and husband Dennis of Blue Mound; great-grandchildren, Christopher Robinson; Joshua Stonecipher and wife Laura; Nicole Stonecipher; Matthew Brooks; Delaney Brooks; Michael Paul Sparks; Benjamin Sparks; great-great-granddaughter, Autumn Stonecipher.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Paul Stonecipher; great-granddaughter, Morgan Brooks; and four brothers.
