Rodgers

FORSYTH -- Harold W. Rodgers, 73, of Forsyth passed away 4:56 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 12, 2003) after a long battle with heart disease in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Dawson & Wikoff Colonial Chapel North Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Weldon Cemetery. Memorials: Ronald McDonald Charities.

Mr. Rodgers was born Feb. 17, 1929, in Wayne County, the son of Vern and Dixie Thompson Rodgers. He farmed for many years in the Maroa area. He was formerly employed by Decatur Public School District 61 and had assisted with services at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Homes. He was an Air Force veteran. He married Norma J. Fugate on Sept. 10, 1950. He later married Betty Wilson Shaw on July 6, 1972.

Surviving are his wife; children, David Rodgers and wife Connie of Maroa; Paula Hall and husband Mike of Mount Zion; Monte Rodgers and wife Britne of Decatur; stepchildren, Cynthia Wiott of St. Louis, Mo.; Steven Shaw and wife Dee Dee of Dewitt; Marcia Boyer and husband Steve of Six Lakes, Mich.; brothers, Bernard Rodgers of Ludlow; Leonard Rodgers and wife Judy of Lafayette, Ind.; Howard Rodgers of Effingham; sisters, Mary Hitchens and husband Lloyd of Urbana; Vera Lee of St. Charles; Loretta Chaney and husband Kenny of Rantoul; grandchildren, Mike Rodgers and wife Heather; Nick Rodgers; Jamie Rodgers; Austin Rodgers; Kristen Hall; Melissa Rodgers; Matthew Rodgers; stepgrandchildren, Eric Swanson and wife Brandy; Jon Swanson; Britta Swanson; Danielle Edwards; Alison Williams; Kathleen Case; Kassandra Case; Jacob Shaw and wife Sarah; great-stepgranddaughter, Alexandria Shaw.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Kenneth; two brothers and three sisters.

Sharp

MOUNT ZION -- Delores Mary Sharp, 81, Mount Zion, retired from Hanshaw Chemical Co., died Saturday (Jan. 11, 2003).

Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation was Monday. Burial: Graceland Cemetery. Memorials: ABWE, Riverside Baptist Church or St. Mary's Adult Day Care Center.

Ballinger

GREENUP -- Grace Jo Ann Ballinger, 57, Greenup, retired from General Electric Co., died Saturday (Jan. 11, 2003).

Graveside services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jack Oak Cemetery, Greenup. No visitation. Arrangements by: Barkley Funeral Chapel, Greenup.

Bilyeu

MOWEAQUA -- Frances May Bilyeu, 90, of Moweaqua died 8:30 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 12, 2003) in Moweaqua Nursing & Retirement Center.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Seitz Funeral Home, Moweaqua, with visitation two hours before services. Burial will be in Bilyeu Cemetery, Moweaqua. Memorials: Christian Church Memorial Fund.

Frances was born Oct. 11, 1912, in Prairieton Township (Assumption), the daughter of James and Mary Mitts Johnston. She was a homemaker and member of the Christian County Farm Bureau and First Christian Church of Moweaqua. She married Haldon Bilyeu on March 9, 1935, in Mattoon. He preceded her in death in 1993.

Surviving are her sons, Larry Bilyeu and wife Margaret Ann and Dale Bilyeu, all of Moweaqua; twin brother, Roy Johnston and wife Marcella of Moweaqua; granddaughters, Theresa Ann Zachek of Appleton, Wis.; Mary Robling of Moweaqua; Marcie Evans of Taylorville; Joe Aaron Bilyeu of Moweaqua; five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Earl.

Frances loved to cook for her family. She was a wonderful caretaker of her family and will be greatly missed.

Anderson

RAMSEY -- Mary M. Anderson, 90, Ramsey, retired from Crane Packing Co., died Sunday (Jan. 12, 2003).

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Miller Funeral Home, Ramsey. Visitation: one hour before services. Burial: Ramsey Cemetery. Memorials: Pana Community Hospital Foundation.

Member: Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Ramsey, and Fayette County Home Extension. Survivors: sons, Charles Anderson, Belen, N.M.; Keith Anderson, Ramsey; daughters, Ellen Menin, Nokomis; Patricia Smith, Springfield; sister, Esther Jackson, Denver, Colo.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Preceded by: parents, husband, Elmer, two daughters, one brother and one sister.

Cobb

CLAY CITY -- Gerald Vance Cobb, 66, Clay City, died Monday (Jan. 13, 2003). Arrangements incomplete: Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora.

Cornell

MATTOON -- Vera Faye Cornell, 95, Mattoon, retired from Brown Shoe Co., died Sunday (Jan. 12, 2003).

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Schilling Funeral Home, Mattoon. Visitation: one hour before services. Burial: Dodge Grove Cemetery, Mattoon. Memorials: Broadway Christian Church, American Cancer Society or Alzheimer's Association.

NEWTON -- Pearl Dufrain, 83, Newton, Silver Rapid Lodge co-owner, died Friday (Jan. 10, 2003).

VANDALIA -- Sue Carol Dugan, 59, Vandalia, cashier, died Sunday (Jan. 12, 2003).

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, First United Methodist Church, Vandalia. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Hohlt & File Funeral Home, Vandalia, and one hour before services in the church. Burial: Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia. Memorials: First United Methodist Church or Fayette County Health Department.

Newbanks

PANA -- Maralyn Suter Newbanks, 69, Bryan, Texas, formerly of Pana, Lancome Cosmetics representative, died Jan. 7, 2003.

Graveside services: 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Mound Cemetery, Pana. No visitation. Arrangements by: McCracken-Dean Funeral Home, Pana.

Hellman

EMDEN -- Lloyd E. Hellman, 71, of Emden, died 6:04 a.m. Monday (Jan. 13, 2003) in Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Peters Lutheran Church, Emden, with Pastor David J. Hofer and the Rev. Frank Pieper officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Holland & Barry Funeral Home, Lincoln, and one hour before services in the church. Burial will be in Hartsburg Union Cemetery with military rites. Memorials: donor's choice.

Lloyd was born on Oct. 16, 1931, in Lincoln, the son of Harold and Margaret Bruns Hellman. He served in the Army from 1952-54. Upon discharge, he began farming and continued to farm in Atlanta, Beason, Hartsburg and Emden areas. He was a member of Logan County Board, Logan County Farm Bureau Board and Prairie Creek Drainage District. He was a Hartsburg Emden school board director, served 28 years as a farm credit director, past commander of the Emden American Legion Post and director of the Logan County Conservation Agency. He married Alberta Luken on June 29, 1952, in San Jose.

Surviving are his wife; son, Brent (Bonnie) Hellman of Emden; daughter, Ann Marie (Brian) Hilgendorf of Emden; grandsons, Blaine Hellman and Taylor and Timothy Hilgendorf; brothers, Norman (Loretta) Hellman of Emden; Don (Donna) Hellman of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Melvin.

Johnson

LINCOLN -- John O. Johnson, 91, Lincoln, retired farmer, died Sunday (Jan. 12, 2003).

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Burial: Richmond Grove Cemetery, New Holland. Memorials: Lincoln Christian Church or American Heart Association.

Kurr

MATTOON -- Bill Kurr, 88, Mattoon, former Steak N Shake employee, died Sunday (Jan. 12, 2003).

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, Mattoon. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial: Dodge Grove Cemetery, Mattoon, with military rites.

PANA -- Eugene C. Meyer, 79, Pana, retired from Caterpillar Inc., died Monday (Jan. 13, 2003).

Stringer

ASSUMPTION -- William L. "Abe" Stringer, 78, Assumption, died Friday (Jan. 10, 2003).

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Assumption. Arrangements by: Seitz Funeral Home, Moweaqua.
