PEKIN ~ Goldie Vernice Tennell, 86, of 515 North Lee Street in Bloomington, died at 5:15 a.m. Monday, December 3, 2001 at Heritage Manor in Bloomington. She was a former resident of 1509 Summit Street in Pekin.
Born May 23, 1915 in Pekin to Harvey Sylvester and Clara Mae Conley Thomas, she married Harry Thomas Tennell on December 15, 1934 in Pekin. He died April 30, 1996 in Pekin. She also was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; three sisters; three half-brothers and one half-sister.
Surviving are two daughters, Beverly JoAnne Fogliano of Mesa, Arizona and Murleen Kay Swafford of Bloomington; one son, Gary Alan (Janet) Tennell of Pekin; eleven grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; fifteen step-great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; ten step-great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Goldie was a member of the First Christian Church in Pekin. As a child, she attended the Pekin Union Mission Society. She is a former member of the Tazewell County Genealogical and Historical Society.
Goldie was a homemaker, and enjoyed her grandchildren, crocheting and especially loved reading many books. Several years ago she did part-time work at the Arlan Store in Pekin, Dog n’ Sud’s in Tremont, owned Pasig Apparel Shop and Bev’s Beauty Salon.
She was very proud of her Irish heritage and her grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 2001 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Robert N. Brite, Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodrow Cemetery in rural Pekin.

TONY A. GOBLE

PEKIN ~ Tony A. Goble, 67, of 230 Court Street, Apartment 305, died at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, December 1, 2001 at his residence.
Born September 2, 1934 in Olney to Pearl Edgar and Stella Mae Sparling Goble, he married Ruth M.L. Keevil on September 4, 1954 in Newbury, Berkshire, England. He later married Dana K. Lowe on August 8, 1986 in Camdenton, Missouri.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda M. Ritchason and Janice M. (Bryan) Potts, both of Pekin; two sons, Richard A. "Rick" (Dawn) Goble of Peoria and Tony L.C. "T.C." Goble of Bonita Springs, Florida; six brothers, H. Eugene (Marilyn) Goble of West Salem, Illinois, Therman E. (Bonnie) Goble of Friedens, Pennsylvania, Sherman E. (Reba) Goble of Bridgeport, James E. (Carol) Goble of Edmond, Oklahoma, Ronald W. (Jeanne) Goble of Edmond, Oklahoma and Thomas M. (Nancy) Goble of Robinson; three sisters, Betty L. Chazez of Casa Grande, Arizona, Lulubelle (Walter) Hundley of McPherson, Kansas and Selma L. Fransted of Rockville, Indiana and seven grandchildren, Michael S. Ritchason, Colin G.M. Ritchason, Kelli M. Potts, Jessica M. Potts, Emily L. Goble, Shane A. Goble and Jeremy R. Goble.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.
He was a
Korean War
Army veteran, serving from 1951 to 1959 in both Korea and England.
Mr. Goble worked as a carpenter in Florida for ten years. Prior to that he worked at Herget National Bank in Pekin for a number of years. He also previously worked as a carpenter through Carpenters Local 644 in Pekin.
He was a member of the Pekin Bible Church.
In earlier years, he enjoyed bowling and playing softball.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2001 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Jerry J. Trecek will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Cremation will be accorded. Burial of ashes will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, with military honors accorded by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.

EMMA PALLMER
(1910~2001)
PEKIN ~ Emma Pallmer, 91, of Pekin, died at 11:50 a.m., Thursday, November 29, 2001 at Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin.
Born June 27, 1910 in Collinsville to George and Eva Serapin Dickshot, she married Paul George Pallmer, Sr. on August 8, 1928 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He died January 22, 1998 in Pekin. One brother and three sisters also preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Paul G. Pallmer, Jr. of Pasco, Washington and Jon T. (Gretchen) Pallmer of Spokane, Washington; and two sisters, Julia Hoffman and Edith Szezurek, both of Collinsville.
Receiving a certificate in flower arranging from Illinois Central College, she had worked part-time at Bloompott Florist and Greenhouses in Pekin for many years.
She was a member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Pekin for over 65 years, where she was a member of the Bethlehem Society, a former member of the choir, and had transcribed Sunday School lessons into Braille for 5 years.
She was past president of the Central Illinois District of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She was also a volunteer for the Pekin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2001 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Mark A. Miller will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday and 30 minutes prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria.

EDNA E. EERTMOED

PEKIN ~ Edna Evelyn Eertmoed, 80, of 1113 South 18th Street, Pekin, died at 2:52 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2001 at Pekin Hospital.
Born February 13, 1921 in Minonk to Frederick William and Edna Lenore Batrum Kunder, she married Charles Ivan Eertmoed on April 6, 1946 in Waukegan. He survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Carol J. Kral of Lockport and Frances M. (David) Crouch of Pekin; one son, Donald L. (Connie) Eertmoed of Pekin; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one sister, Frances Kunder of Pekin.
Her parents, one brother (Kaywin "Bud" Kunder), and three sisters (Lois Kunder, Jessie Kunder, and Helen Buettemeier) preceded her in death.
Mrs. Eertmoed worked for LeTourneau-Westinghouse, which later became WABCO for 30 years. She retired from WABCO on August 30, 1982 as a shipping clerk.
She was a member of the WABCO Retired Employees Club.
She enjoyed bowling.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, November 30, 2001 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Ralph H. Cordes and Rev. Harmen Heeg will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

JOYCE B. MEFFORD

PEKIN ~ Joyce B. Mefford, 80, of 12 Spring Oaks Drive, Saint Charles, Missouri, died at 1:33 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2001 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital South in Saint Louis, Missouri. She was formerly of 1000 Chestnut Street in Pekin.
Born January 21, 1921 in Roseville to Clarence and Opal Tucker Bly, she married William Joseph Mefford on August 27, 1938 in Pekin. He died September 10, 1998 in Pekin. One daughter, Judy A. Stanfel, also preceded her in death on July 30, 2001 in Fargo, North Dakota.
Surviving are one daughter, Linda S. (Robert) Irwin of Saint Peters, Missouri; one grandson, Jason R. Irwin of Saint Peters, Missouri; one son-in-law, William Stanfel of Fargo, North Dakota; and one sister-in-law, Kathryn Giovanetto of Groveland.
Mrs. Mefford had worked at Jones Bros. Jewelers in Pekin for 10 years, last working as a Bridal Consultant.
She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and crafts.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2001 at the Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. The Rev. Curt Alexander will officiate. There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are by the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

HERMAN W. REED

PEKIN ~ Herman William Reed, 93, of 1650 Indiantown Road, Henry, died at 1:25 a.m. Sunday, November 25, 2001 at Heartland Health Care Center in Henry. He was formerly of Pekin.
Born May 1, 1908 in Randolph, Iowa to Clarence Elmer and Anna Marie Vogel Reed, he married Ethel Merry on March 29, 1952 in Havana. She died January 15, 1993 in Peoria. He was also preceded in death by one son (Glen Reed), two sisters, and two brothers.
Surviving are five daughters, Virginia Cox of Armington, Erma (Thomas) Trainor of Edelstein, Mary (Duane) Rockhold of Boulder, Colorado, Linda (Ken) Schuttler and Brenda (William) Cox, both of Pekin; one son, Dennis (Janet) Reed of Henry; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lillian Reed of Manito, Betty (Roger) Pagel of Orlando, Florida, and Helen Schmick of Morton; and two brothers, Richard (Merle) Reed of Orlando, Florida and Clarence Reed of Delavan.
Mr. Reed worked at American Distilling Company in Pekin for 39 ½ years as an electrician.
He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #34 in Peoria. He was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1869 and Empire Lodge #126 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, both of Pekin.
He enjoyed fishing and
hunting.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2001 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Greg Mason will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

ORRIE L. WOODRUFF

PEKIN ~ Orrie Lawrence Woodruff, 72, of 1506 Highwood Avenue, Pekin, died at 8:07 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2001 at the Pekin Hospital emergency room.
Born July 12, 1929 in Green Valley to Otho Codding and Lillian Beatrice Bush Woodruff, he married Loretta A. Schliszio on August 16, 1958 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Dr. David L. (Susan) Woodruff of Pekin; one daughter, Lynne A. (Dr. Philip) Koszyk of Bloomington; four grandchildren; and one sister, Marie Moehn of Jacksonville.
His parents and one infant brother preceded him in death.
A United States
Army veteran, he served from February 6, 1951 to February 5, 1953. He attained the rank of Private First Class.
Mr. Woodruff worked for Standard Brands in Pekin for 18 years until its closing. He then began working for the City of Pekin on September 4, 1973, retiring March 10, 1993 from the wastewater treatment plant.
He was a member of the William Schaefer American Legion Post #44 of Pekin, the Tazewell County Farm Bureau, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local No. 627 in Peoria, and the AFSCME Illinois Retirees Chapter 31 ~ Subchapter 78.
He enjoyed
hunting, fishing, boating, and his grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2001 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Timothy Nolan will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Green Valley Cemetery in Green Valley with military rites.

DANIEL B. PELD

BELLEVUE ~ Daniel Brian Peld, 52, of 658 South Ridgeview Lane, died at 4:40 a.m., Saturday, November 17, 2001 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born November 11, 1949 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Harry T. and Bernice M. Ziegert Peld, he married Marilyn A. Raboin on September 22, 1973 in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. She survives.
Also surviving are his mother, Bernice M. Mizyiewski of Tempe, Arizona; one daughter, Anne Manette Peld of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two sons, Nathan Daniel Peld of Newport News, Virginia and Adam Michael Peld of Groton, Connecticut; two sisters, Valerie J. (James) Steininger of Tomahawk, Wisconsin and Virginia L. (Richard) DeWyze of Mundelein and nieces and nephews.
His father preceded him in death.
A 1968 graduate of Sussex Hamilton High School in Sussex, Wisconsin, he graduated in 1972 from the Michigan Technological University at Houghton, Michigan with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.
Mr. Peld was a Peoria area resident since 1992 and last worked Tuesday for Yeomans Distributing Company in Peoria, where he was employed as a sales engineer. He previously worked as a HVAC engineer at Randolph & Associates, Inc. and for Clark Engineers, Inc., both in Peoria.
He was a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-conditioning Engineers, Inc.
He was a member of the LaMarsh Baptist Church in Mapleton.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2001 at the LaMarsh Baptist Church in Mapleton. The Rev. Claud H. Slate and Rev. Rick Koonce will officiate. There will be no visitation. Cremation will be accorded. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel.

OPAL E. MATCHAM

PEKIN ~ Opal E. Matcham, 94, of 191 East Queenwood Road, Morton, died at 6:30 a.m. Monday, November 12, 2001 at Methodist Medical Center of Illinois in Peoria. She was formerly of Pekin and 1809 West Callender in Peoria.
Born August 16, 1907 in Chidster, Arkansas to Robert Silas and Margaret Martin Hindman, she married Earl Blair. She later married Edward Matcham in November of 1948 in Peoria. He died December 21, 1965 in Hindsdale. One daughter (Vivian Blair), one great-grandson, four brothers, and one sister also preceded her in death.
Surviving are three daughters, Venice (Minor) Monroe of Pekin, Marlene (John Henkel) Blair of Weeki-Wachee, Florida, and Shirley Galleger of Peoria; eight grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Elsie Sweatman Merritt of Camden, Arkansas, Ruth Vincent of Bearden, Arkansas, and Gene Barton of Gurdon, Arkansas.
Mrs. Matcham owned and operated Opal’s Café on Main Street in Peoria for over 30 years, retiring in 1979.
She was a lifetime member and past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1869 Auxiliary in Pekin and a member of the American Business Women’s Association in Peoria.
Active in the Democratic Party in Peoria and Pekin, she was a former Democratic precinct judge for many years.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 15, 2001 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Kenneth Yocum will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Ridge Cemetery in Mapleton.
