Ila Darlene Hynd died at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at her home. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, March 20, at the Knapp Funeral Home, Onarga, where services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 21. The Rev. Matt Steendahl will officiate.
Burial will be in Onarga Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
She was born Oct. 2, 1916, in Del Rey, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Margretta Montz Austin. Her husband, Herald McKinley "Kinley" Hynd, whom she married June 13, 1936, in Kentland, Ind., died Jan. 15, 1978. She was a member of the Onarga United Methodist Church. She loved to vacation in Wisconsin. She also loved gardening, reading, working crossword puzzles, her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are four daughters and three sons-in-law, Gail and Marvin Robinson of Beason, Linda and Myron Cailteux of Clifton, Nancy Yates of Bloomington, Leslie and Paul VanHoveln of Onarga; 11 grandchildren, Debra Ertl, Darvin (Tammy) Robinson, Gerald (Julie) Cailteux, Julie (Greg) Tholen, Kenneth (Tammy) Cailteux, Andrew (Jennifer) Cailteux, Elizabeth Yates, Anne (Charles) Atteberry, Chris (Mandy) VanHoveln, Tammy (Darrin) Kregel and Sara (Dave) Powell; 20 great-grandchildren; and one brother-in-law, Orin Ireland of Onarga.
Deceased are her parents; one grandson, Richard Cailteux; one son-in-law, Bill Yates; one brother, Donald Austin; and five sisters, Ruth Skates, Rheta Fisher, Margaret Windhorn, Mary Ireland and Maxine Shannon Sewing.
Virginia B. Moore, 98, of Rantoul, IL
Virginia B. Moore died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at Prairie Village in Rantoul. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 21, at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, March 22. The Rev. Paul Copeland will officiate.
Burial will be in Belmont Cemetery, Watseka. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Watseka, where she was a former member; Iroquois County Historical Society; Covenant Hospice; or the Illinois Audubon Society.
Mrs. Moore was a former music teacher in the Watseka area for many years. She was born Nov. 12, 1910, in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Charles J. and Pearl Osburn Wild Mann. Her husband, Ralph D. Moore, whom she married June 15, 1933, in Gilman, died June 22, 1984. She played the cello in the Kankakee Symphony Orchestra and Iroquois Strings for many years. She enjoyed gardening and genealogy.
Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Janice and Michael Schnurr, Beverly Frailey; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are one daughter, Mary Kay; one great-grandchild, three great-great-grandchildren, one brother and one sister.
Barbara J. Coleman, 76, of Onarga, IL
Barbara J. Coleman died Monday, March, 16, 2009, at Watseka Rehad and Health Care Center. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 19, at the Knapp Funeral Home in Onarga, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Liz Reis will officiate.
Burial will be in Onarga Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Onarga Fire Department or to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Coleman was born Feb. 4, 1933, in Vandalia, the daughter of Harold and Lillian Lawson Nighsonger.
Surviving are her husband, Edward Coleman, whom she married June 11, 1956, in Buckley; one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Nancy Coleman of Onarga; three grandchildren; three sisters, Pauline Tilstra of Norfork, Ark., Lois Hickman of Effingham and Ruth Garrelts of Buckley; and one brother, Edwin Nighsonger of Springfield.
Deceased are one son, Marten Coleman; and one sister, Maxine Measaw.
Marvin L. Geiken, 85, of Claytonville, IL
Marvin L. Geiken, 85, of Claytonville, IL passed away March 9, 2009 at Heartland Health Care Center in Paxton.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 13, 2009 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Schwer. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at Knapp Funeral Home in Cissna Park and 1 hour prior to the services at the church on Friday. The Rev. Matt Steendahl will be officiating with Burial in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Schwer.
Mr. Geiken was born the son of Carl and Mary Hankey Geiken on February 11, 1924 in Milford, IL. He married Juanita Mohler on April 28, 1946 at Schwer and she survives.
Survivors also include 2 daughters, Donna (Stanley) Kopmann of Gifford, and Debbie (Bill) Long of Godley, TX; 3 sons, David (Karen) Geiken of Cissna Park, Deane (Cordelia) Geiken of Paxton, and Darryl (Tammy) Geiken of Crowley, TX; and one brother, Orval Geiken of Milford; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Darla.
Mr. Geiken was a life member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Schwer and a Foreman for the IL Dept. of Transportation for 22 years. He was a volunteer for the Cissna Park Fire Dept. for 20 years and loved fishing, camping and NASCAR racing. He also enjoyed rebuilding cars.

Phyllis E. Lauterbach, 72, of Watseka, IL
Phyllis E. Lauterbach died Sunday, March 8, 2009 at the Iroquois Resident Home in Watseka. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home, Watseka, and from 9:00 a.m. Thursday, March 12, at Faith Lutheran Church in Watseka, until the 10:00 a.m. services. The Revs. Kevin Garner and Joseph Dapelo will officiate.
Burial will be in Prairie Dell Cemetery, Watseka. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or to the donor's choice.
She was born March 20, 1936, in Watseka, the daughter of Harold and Edna Taylor Garner. Her husband, Robert H. Lauterbach, whom she married Jan. 15, 1955, in Sheldon, died Feb. 10, 1990. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. She was a collector of dolls, glassware, figurines and plates.
Surviving are one brother and five sisters-in-law, William and Frances Garner of Crescent City, Phyllis Garner of Watseka, Joann Sloan and Janice Ringler, both of Milford, Marilyn Albee of Tucson, Ariz.; five nephews, David, Daniel, Terry, Michael and Kevin Garner; and many cousins and close friends.
Deceased are her parents and one brother, Robert Garner.
Edward E. Peters, 87 of Watseka, IL
Edward E. Peters died Monday, March 9, 2009 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 12, at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home, Watseka, and from 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 13, at the Calvary Lutheran Church, Watseka, until the 11:00 a.m. services. The Rev. Donald Love will officiate.
Burial, with military graveside rites by the Watseka American Legion Post 23 and the Iroquois County VFW Post 7450, will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Watseka. Memorials may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church preschool or to the donor's choice.
Mr. Peters had been a service technician at Watseka Bottle Gas. He was born Feb. 20, 1922, in Cissna Park, the son of Herman and Miriam Lisse Peters. His wife, the former Marian Lober, whom he married March 16, 1945, in Riverside, Calif., died April 29, 1999. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Air Corps serving during World War II and was a member of the Watseka American Legion. He was also a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and the Calvary Lutheran Men's Club. He enjoyed golfing 
and was a member of the Shewami Country Club.
Surviving are two sons, Ron Peters of Watseka, Scott (Donna) Peters of Endwell, N.Y.; two daughters, Donna (Marvin) Kellems-Blair of Watseka, Renee (Jerome) Epplin of Litchfield; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard (Ardelle) Peters of Crescent City, Warren (Fran) Peters of Watseka; four sisters, Christine Schleef of Apache Junction, Ariz., Elizabeth (Louis) Darby of LaJunta, Colo., Ruth Peck of Sanford, Mich., Miriam (Larry) Larkin of Virginia Beach, Va.; and special friend, Marge "Maggie" Kraay of Watseka.
Deceased are one brother, Art; and one sister, Dorothy.

Ms. May was a caregiver for many years. She was born April 25, 1939, in Langdale, Ala., the daughter of Calvin and Cenus Pitts Yarbrough.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Lisa Schuldt of Onarga, Randy and Christy Schuldt of Minooka; five grandchildren; her mother, Cenus Johnson of LaGrange, Ga.; and two brothers, Terry Yarbrough of Opelika, Ala. and Tony Yarbrough of LaGrange.
Her father is deceased.
Erma V. Fredrickson, 97, formerly of Potomac, Watseka, IL
Erma V. Fredrickson died Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Iroquois Resident Home in Watseka. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, March 9, at the Knapp Funeral Home in Rankin. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at No. Ten Church of Christ in Armstrong. The Revs. Ted Rhode and Janis Peters will officiate.

Mrs. Fredrickson was a schoolteacher in Champaign and Vermilion counties for 20 years. She was born May 7, 1911, in Ellis, the daughter of Lewis and Ethel Reed Thornton. Her husband, Leslie Fredrickson, whom she married June 30, 1938, in Potomac, died Aug. 18, 2000. She taught Sunday school for many years at her church and was a graduate of Rantoul High School and Illinois State University.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Pat Fredrickson of Kentland, Ind., Dr. Richard and Laura Fredrickson of Grand View, Idaho; four grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lottie Chenoweth of Armstrong and Vera Fiscus of Danville; two brothers, Henry Thornton of Potomac and Robert Thornton of Evansville, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, Charles and Dale, are deceased.
Luella Irene Geiken, 83, of Milford, IL
Luella Irene Geiken died Thursday, March 5, 2009, at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, March 9, at the Knapp Funeral Home in Milford, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday. The Revs. Neil Larimore and Gary Milton will officiate.
Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Milford. Memorials may be made to Milford EMTs and Fire Department or to Milford Christian Church, where she was a member.
Mrs. Geiken was born Feb. 3, 1926, in Stockland, the daughter of Gilbert and Lydia Wheat Jessee. She was a member of the Household Science Club and volunteered at her church on many occasions, including Wednesday afternoon Kings Club. She enjoyed baking, cooking and going on shopping trips with the senior van.
Surviving are her husband, Orval Carl Geiken, whom she married Sept. 15, 1941, in Schwer; one daughter and son-in-law, Diane and John Conner of Sheldon; two sons and daughters-in-law, Duane and Lynn Geiken of Raymore, Mo., Daniel and Ruth Geiken of Crestwood; six grandchildren, Todd Conner of Carmel, Ind., Tondra (Mike) Bennett of Sheldon, Shannon (John) Horn of South Carolina, Matthew (Janice) Geiken of Florida, Derek Geiken of Indiana, Greg Geiken of Tilton; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are her parents, two brothers and six sisters.

Donald M. Sweeney, 84, of Chebanse, IL
Donald Merle Sweeney passed away Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at the home of his daughter, Sara Mitchell in Huntley. Mr. Sweeney was born July 20, 1924, in Gilman, the son of Thomas and Ida Melis Sweeney. He married Zita Jean St. Peter on March 29, 1947, in Gilman.
Mr. Sweeney is survived by 13 children, Steve (Linda) Sweeney of Manteno, Stan (Martha) Sweeney of Clifton, Stu (Jane) Sweeney of Laguna Beach, Calif., Sue (Dan) Mortier of Highland Park, Sam (Roxanne) Sweeney of Ashkum, Scott (Diane) Sweeney of Frankfort, Sherm (Julie) Sweeney of Rock Island, Sharon Sweeney of Normal, Sheila (Karl) Buch of O'Fallon, Sally (Lyn) Rosenboom of Clifton, Sean (Maria) Sweeney of Barrington, Sara (Scott) Mitchell of Huntley, Shannon (Lisa) Sweeney of Herscher. There are 42 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Dorothy Dermody of Pico Rivera, Calif., along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is survived by a dear cousin, Elizabeth Gleason; and honorary granddaughter, Venda Menclova.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Zita Jean Sweeney; his parents, Thomas and Ida Melis Sweeney; brothers, Harold and Raymond Sweeney; sisters, Mable Rogers and Rosemary Johnson; and a grandson, Korey Thomas Mitchell.
A veteran of World War II, with U.S. Navy submarine service, he married Zita Jean St. Peter on March 29, 1947, in Gilman. They raised their family of 13 children and resided in the same house in Chebanse for the last 52 years. He was a member of Sts. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Chebanse. He served as president of the Central Unit 4 School District Board of Education and retired after 39 years with the Roper Corporation, Kankakee, in 1985. Mr. Sweeney had been the supervisor of the drafting and design department. He had also served as the president of the Roper/A.O. Smith Technical Engineers Union. His hobbies included spending time with his family, playing cards, fishing, and woodworking. He was an avid Cubs fan. He was a follower of the local high school sports activities and attended the Illinois State Wrestling Tournament for many years with a group of his children and grandchildren.
Friends may call from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday, Mar. 1, at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Mar. 2, at Sts. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Vern Arseneau will officiate. Burial, with military honors by the Momence Honor Guard, will be in Sts. Mary and Joseph Cemetery, Chebanse. Memorials may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America or to Autism Speaks.

Mr. Allen was born July 3, 1964, in Chicago, the son of Billy R. and Olga Rosenberger Allen.
Surviving are his mother of Chicago; three sons, Michael R. Allen of Ludlow, Steven J. Allen of Indianapolis, Ind., Scott J. Allen of Thawville; one sister, Michelle Knapp of Thawville; and two brothers, Bill Allen and Troy J. Allen, both of Covington, Ky.
Mary A. Peters, 78, of Ashkum, IL
Mary A. Peters died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at Assumption BVM Catholic Church in Ashkum, where she was a member. The Rev. James Holup will officiate.

Mrs. Peters was a registered nurse for 30 years. She ran blood drives for many years for the Iroquois Chapter of the Red Cross. She was born June 22, 1930, in Hayes, the daughter of Edwin Leo and Dorothy Mary Tascher Yonke. She was educated at the Mercy School of Nursing in Urbana. She was a member of the CCW at her church. She was a volunteer for the Clifton Food Pantry and also at the Merkle-Knipprath Nursing Home and Prairieview Lutheran Home on music days.
Surviving are her husband, Gerald "Pete" Peters, whom she married Nov. 3, 1951, in Ashkum; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Brent Eden of Wyoming, Mich., Julie and Eddie Robertson of Spring City, Tenn.; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Laura Peters of Chatham; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren; and her mother, Dorothy M. Yonke of Ashkum.
Deceased are her father and one brother, Robert Yonke.
