Helen Louise (Krouse) Albert
WINONA LAKE — Helen Louise (Krouse) Albert, 95, of Winona Lake, died Saturday, June 27,
2009 at 6 a.m. at Grace Village.
She is survived by three daughters: Sue Charlton of Leesburg, Nancy (Kent) Adams of Winona
Lake and Sally (Roger) Bair of Warsaw; two sons: Eugene (Bonnie) Albert of Chesterton and
Dan (Sandy) Albert of Cornelius, N.C.; 20 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral
Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw.
Funeral services will take place Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at the funeral chapel at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow at Leesburg cemetery, Leesburg.
Memorials may be made to the Leesburg United Methodist Church, 111 E. Prairie St., Leesburg,
IN 46538.

Bernard Boener
PLYMOUTH — Bernard Boener, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle,
brother, and friend died of natural causes Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the age of 74, surrounded
by his family.
Bernard was born in Roxel, Germany Feb. 16, 1935 to Heinrich and Antonia (Willege) BertelsBöner.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents and sister Maria Peter, and survived by his
brother Heinrich Böner (spouse Charlotte) of Roxel, Germany and sisters Antonia Büse-Lotte
(spouse Antonius) of Lippetal, Germany and Agnes Holtken (spouse of Bernhard) of Dülmen,
Germany.
Bernie immigrated to the Plymouth area in 1956. On February 15, 1958, at St. Michael Catholic
Church, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Mary Elizabeth Glose.
Surviving are seven children: John and spouse Marcella Boener, Mike and spouse Cindy
Boener, Richard and spouse Diane Boener, Joseph and spouse Mary Boener, Pauline Boener
and spouse David Richardson, Larry and spouse Elizabeth Boener, and Heidi; 13 grandchildren
and eight great-grandchildren: Zach, spouse Leslie, and children Zach, Anastasia, and Noel
Hutchings; Heather, spouse Mike, and children Myah, and Michael Tatay; Crystal Hutchings;
Ben, spouse Emily, and children Carter, Ben and Madeline Hutchings; John Boener; Stephen
and Anthony Boener; Karas and Kassidy Boener; Katherine and Ellen Boener; and Geoffrey and
Erik Boener.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael Parish, 612 N. Walnut St.
Plymouth, IN 46563 and/or Center for Hospice, 112 S. Center St., Suite C, Plymouth, IN 46563.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 1, at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N.
Michigan St. from 4 to 8 p.m. with the Rosary at 7:30 p.m.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 2 at St. Michael Roman
Catholic Church, 615 N. Center St., Plymouth where Bernie was a longtime member. Pastor
William Kummer will officiate.
Interment will follow in St. Michael cemetery, Oak Road, Plymouth.

Lynn R. DeFries
ELKHART — Lynn R. DeFries, 72, of Elkhart, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2009, at home,
after a long illness.
Lynn was born in Chicago, Ill., to Richard and Vera (Myers) DeFries June 4, 1937. Lynn
graduated from LaPaz High School in 1956 and also attended IUSB. On April 30, 1957 he
married Judy (Schaefer), who survives.
He is also survived by two daughters: a son, Chuck (Cami) and grandchildren; and one sister,
Vera Mae Howard of Hammond, Ind. Mr. DeFries with his wife Judy owned and operated
Garbers Decorating Center in Elkhart from 1971 to 1997, also Home Decorating of Goshen for a
time.
The couple began with the two small stores selling primarily paint and wallpaper, then expanded
the products and services to include window treatments and floor covering, becoming a leading
store of that type in the area. The couple were high school sweethearts and naturals for this type
of business.
The soul mates spent many hours giving clinics and "How-To" demonstrations of their products,
informing the customers and public both young and old regarding to their use. The loyal, hard
working staff supported this effort, making the store a success.
Lynn served on numerous boards as past director and/or past president of many local
organizations such as the Credit Bureau, Better Business Bureau, Elcona Country Club,
Downtown Elkhart Association, Elkhart Improvement Association, Elkhart Centre, Life House,
Chamber of Commerce, and Elkhart Redevelopment Commission. And served also as past
member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and was a Cub Scout leader. In Plymouth he was
also past president of the Jaycees and past chairman of the Marshall County Young Republican
Organization.
Mr. DeFries also served as past president and director of the National Decorating Association of
America and was founder of the Michiana Decorating Products Association. The DeFries were
considered outstanding in their chosen careers.
As a veteran, Lynn served in the U.S. Army with a tour of duty in Korea, maintaining equipment
to be shuttled both to North and South Koreans into their respective countries. He enjoyed music
of all kinds.
His favorite songs were "Walk Alone, " "My Way, " and "Unchained Melody" and Judy's music
from the New Horizon Band and country music. He also enjoyed art, NASCAR, and was a
member of the NRA, and enjoyed to water ski, snow ski, play tennis and hunt.
Loving the outdoors, his favorite tree was the Red Bud; the bush, Peony and flower, the
Bachelor Button.
Visitation will take place at Stemm Lawson Peterson Funeral Home, 1531 Cobblestone Blvd.,
Elkhart Tuesday, June 30, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m.
There will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be
sent to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care Inc., 22579 Old U.S. 20, Elkhart, IN 46516.

Karen S. Welch
PLYMOUTH — Karen S. Welch, 49, a 25-year resident of Middletown, Conn. And formerly of
Plymouth, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 27 in Sioux Falls, S.D. while traveling
with her parents, Plymouth residents Merle J. and Carol J. (Suter) Welch.
Her death came while she was attempting to visit all 50 states by her 50th birthday on October 2
of this year. She accomplished 48 — leaving Mississippi and Louisiana.
Karen was born in 1959, at Plymouth. She was a 1978 graduate of the LaVille High School and
Ball State University in 1982 with a degree in Computer Science.
Every day brought something new to Karen’s life and she enjoyed a fulfilling career in insurance
and financial services. She began that career in Hamilton, Ohio with Ohio Casualty prior to her
move to Hartford, Conn., joining the Travelers and on to The Hartford Financial Services Group.
She was committed to her faith and family. As a member of the West Hartford United Methodist
Church she loved serving as a Sunday school teacher in the pre-school program along with
taking part in “Ladies Night Out.”
Karen looked forward to spending time with her family and coming home to Plymouth visiting her
parents and only sibling Steve, his wife Patty and special niece and nephew; Stephanie of
Chicago and Ryan Welch of Plymouth. A fun time was always had while playing games and
cards with family and friends.
Also surviving are her aunts and uncles; Art and Marge Suter, Linda and Gene Piper, Richard
and Joan Welch and Jean Shrout.
She will be remembered as being a happy, unselfish and giving person often found reading a
book likely written by Stephen King. Karen also collected Winnie the Pooh and Disney movies.
Family and friends are invited to share memories of Karen during a visitation from 4 to 8 p.m.
Thursday, July 2 at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 3 in the Plymouth Wesleyan Church, 11203 S.
Michigan St., Plymouth with calling there one hour prior to services. The Rev. John Branch will
officiate. A luncheon will immediately follow in the church fellowship hall.
Burial will be in the New Oakhill cemetery and memorial gifts may be given in her memory to the
West Hartford Church, Plymouth Wesleyan Church or St. Michael School OPZ Project.

Hilda L. Faulkner
BOURBON — Hilda L. Faulkner, 98, of 12057 Elm Rd., Bourbon, passed away peacefully
Sunday, June 28, 2009 in the Community Hospital of Bremen with her family at her side.
Hilda was born in rural Nappanee on Oct. 17, 1910 to Grover Wyman and Estella Sechrist
Wyman.
Hilda was a resident of the Bourbon area. She married Carl E. Faulkner on Dec. 25, 1928. He
died April 14, 1990. She was a faithful member of the Bourbon United Pentecostal Church where
she rarely missed a service until about a year ago for health reasons. She also taught Sunday
School for the toddlers. She enjoyed crocheting, making plastic canvas crafts for her church
bazaar and baking sugar cookies. She also loved spending time with her family and
grandchildren.
She was a homemaker and had worked at Orthopedic Equipment Company as a hand sewer
making leg splints for the Army. She was also able to travel to Europe with her husband for OEC
in the early 1960s and was able to tour many of the countries.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan Weissert of Bourbon; her two sons: Don (Barbara)
Faulkner of Bourbon and Tom (Norma) Faulkner of Brandenton, Fla. She also has 18
grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Dorothy
(Walter) Sult of Sturgis, Mich.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty; her husband; a son-in-law, Ernie Weissert; and
her three brothers: Dallas, Henry and Ward Wyman.
A celebration of Hilda’s life will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 2 in the United Pentecostal Church,
201 N. Bourbon St., with Rev. Mark Cottrill officiating.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 1 in the church, and for one
hour before services Thursday in the church. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill cemetery,
Bourbon.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Bourbon United Pentecostal Church parking lot fund.
Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, Bourbon, is in charge of the arrangements.

Richard L. Hershberger
ROCHESTER — Richard L. Hershberger, 55, a resident of 4559 S.R. 110, Rochester, passed
away Sunday, June 28, 2009 at 11:55 p.m. in Parkview Hospital of Fort Wayne after
complications from Multiple My Loma.
Richard was born the son of Mack E. Hershberger and Martha L. Clauss Hershberger on Jan.
14, 1954 in Warsaw. He had resided his entire life in the Bourbon and Rochester area. He was a
1972 graduate of Triton High School.
He was a great hunter. He enjoyed hunting deer especially. He even was able to shoot his last
buck deer from his own front porch. He and his friend Jerry Fisher even went hunting Black Bear
in Canada where he was able to get his prize bear which he had in his home. He was a faithful
member of the Warsaw Church of God.
Survivors include his mother, Martha L. Hershberger of Bourbon and several cousins and close
friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mack; maternal grandparents, Daniel and Hazel Clauss;
and paternal grandparents, Charles and Alma Hershberger.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 2 in The Country Church, S.R.
331 north of Bourbon with Pastor Stephen Hargrave of Warsaw Church of God and Pastor David
Gould of The Country Church officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 1 in The Country Church. Burial
will follow in the Bremen cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Warsaw Church of God, the Country
Church or the charity of your choice.

Frederick T. Insco
PLYMOUTH - Fredrick T. Insco, 82, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2009 in St. Joseph Regional
Medical Center, Plymouth.
Mr. Insco was born April 17, 1927 in Huntington, W.V. to Floyd and Nancy (Martin) Insco and
lived in the Plymouth area since 1954. On May 24, 1952 in Catlettsburg, Ky., he married the love
of his life, Rosie Fitzpatrick.
Surviving are his wife, Rosie; one daughter, Patty (Dan) Hatter of Culver; four grandchildren: Bill
(Theresa) Hatter of Winamac, Letha (Larry) West of LaPorte, Tony Hatter of Plymouth and
Stephanie (Brett) Bunton of Plymouth; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Elouise Sullivan,
Annie Woolum and Irma Holderby, all of W.V. and one brother, Bob Insco of W.V. He was
preceded in death by his parents, one son, Dwight, two sisters and two brothers.
Mr. Insco was a retired lineman with C&O Railroad. He loved fishing, gardening, his church, the
Community Gospel Baptist Church of Knox, but most of all he loved his family. He was a Deacon
at the church. He accepted the Lord November 15, 1959 and was baptized November 22, 1959.
Friends may call Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the Community Gospel Baptist Church of Knox from
2 p.m. CDT until the time of services.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 4 p.m. (Central Time) at the church with Pastor Paul Bagley
officiating.
Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel is handling arrangements.

Jeffrey. Jr. VanBlaricom
BOURBON — Jeffrey VanBlaricom Jr., 29, of Bourbon, died Sunday, June 28, 2009 at Saint
Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
He is survived by his mother, Lorrene VanBlaricom of Bourbon; brothers: Chad William
VanBlaricom and Raymond Earl VanBlaricom, both of Bourbon; and grandparents: Ray and
Dora VanBlaricom of Plymouth and Doris Haines of Plymouth.
There will be no visitation or services.
Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth, is in charge of the arrangements.
