Carolyn Sue Corcoran Zyzys
SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. — Carolyn Sue Corcoran Zyzys, 68, Sierra Vista, Arizona, died Oct. 8,
2009, in Hospice of the Valley, Phoenix, Ariz.
Mrs. Zyzys was born April 26, 1941, in Plainfield, Ind., to the late Donald J. Corcoran and Viola
Grace (Cooper) Wilcoxon.
Mrs. Zyzys attended Mooresville High School and graduated from Plainfield High School. She
worked briefly in the insurance industry in Plainfield prior to working at the Richard Roudebush
Veteran’s Medical Center in Indianapolis.
She later worked for a total of 19 years with the Federal Aviation Administration, primarily in
Atlantic City, N.J., retiring in 1993. Mrs. Zyzys was an avid seamstress and also enjoyed
sculpting. She was also very involved in family genealogy and enjoyed traveling abroad to do her
genealogy research.
Above all, she enjoyed her family and was a proud homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Cosand.
Survivors include her husband, Edmund Zyzys, to whom she was united in marriage April 24,
1965, in Plymouth; children: Edmund Zyzys of New Jersey, Raymond Zyzys of Arizona, and Kelly
Zyzys of New Jersey; sister, Sandy Smith of Mooresville; and a grandson, Zachary Zyzys.
Family graveside services were held Monday, October 12, 2009, in White Lick cemetery,
Mooresville. Rev. Dennis Payton officiated the service.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Carlisle & Son Funeral Chapel, Mooresville.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, by visiting
www.stjude.org.

Eldon Frevida
NAPPANEE — Eldon Frevida, 90, of Nappaneee, died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at
Goshen General Hospital.
He is survived by daughters: Janice (Melvin) Goss of Nappanee and Jolene (Daryl "Butch")
Hamman of Nappanee; a son, Donald (Betty) Fervida of Nappanee, four grandchildren; and five
great-gradnchildren.
Visitation will take place Sunday, Oct. 11 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder
Funeral Home, 950 N. Main St., Nappanee and one hour prior to services Monday.
Funeral services are Monday, Oct. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Union Center cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Turkey Creek Church of the Brethren.

Barbara M. Kariger
PLYMOUTH – Barbara M. Kariger, 56, a resident of Hillside Drive, Plymouth, died peacefully at
her home in the company of family at 10:50 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9.
Barbara was born in LaPorte, Oct. 22, 1952. She is the daughter of Rolling Prairie residents,
Paul E. and Marilyn R. (Pankowski) Nelson.
She was a graduate of New Prairie High School and received her bachelors degree from
Manchester College in 1975 and a Master in Education from Indiana University – South Bend in
1979.
On Dec. 27, 1975 in Rolling Prairie she became the bride of George H. Kariger. Together they
dedicated their professional lives to the education of children including their own four children,
two sons: Michael G. Kariger and Matthew P. Kariger both of Indianapolis, and two daughters:
Melissa K. Kariger at Valparaiso University and Megan K. Kariger of Grand Valley State
University in Allendale, Mich.
A brother also survives, Donald and wife Traci Nelson of Naperville, Ill. And children Dani and
Zac.
Barb served as a reading teacher and aide in all grade levels of the Argos Elementary School
from 1977 to 1982. She paused to raise her young family and in 1999 she returned as an aide
and Title One Reading teacher at Webster Elementary until 2005. After that she continued as a
substitute teacher in the Plymouth Community School system until her illness would not allow
after being diagnosed with ALS in March of 2007.
The devoted staff and children of both schools made it possible for Barbara to accomplish daily
tasks at home with handicap accessibility. She was also able to travel to the historic sights of
Boston and experience the beauty of the Grand Canyon.
She was a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Plymouth. As hobbies she enjoyed
scrap booking and collecting Christmas ornaments.
Barb’s family will receive friends Wednesday, Oct. 14 from 3 to 7 p.m. EDT in the Johnson-Danielson
Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. A Mass of Christian Burial will take
place Thursday morning at 11 a.m. EDT in the St. Michael Catholic Church, 613 N. Center St.,
Plymouth.
Burial will follow in the New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
In Barbara’s own words she wished not to be remembered as a victim of ALS but rather for her
love of all children and with that has requested that memorial gifts may be made to the Make-AWish
Foundation, 2545 Farmers Drive, Indianapolis, IN, 46241-4305.

David M. Thompson
WARSAW — David M. Thompson, 58, of Warsaw, died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009 at 8:45 p.m. at
Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
He was born Jan. 12, 1951 in Salem, Ind. To Richard and Mary Lou “Tash” Thompson and was
a Warsaw resident for many years.
Thompson married Amy Gill June 12, 1982 in Warsaw. He worked as an EMT for the City of
Warsaw and was a member of the St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, Warsaw.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Lou of Tyner; wife, Amy of Warsaw; two daughters: Mandy
Neff and Kendra Thompson, both of Warsaw; two brothers: William Thompson of Eugene, Ore.
And Steve Thompson of Plymouth; a sister, Debbie Mosson of Walkerton and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father. Thompson loved his daughters and Superman.
Visitation will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14 at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church,
Warsaw.
Funeral services will take place at the church at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Father Daniel Martin
officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church Columbarium, Warsaw.
McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, was entrusted with arrangements.

George W. "Babe" Bowen
PLYMOUTH – George W. “Babe” Bowen, 91, passed away at home Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at 1 p.m.
George was born in Chicago, Ill. Feb. 22, 1918, the son of Charles E. and Jessie Beetsma
Bowen, Sr. On December 27, 1939, George and Marjorie H. Maxson were married in Plymouth.
George worked at Studebakers for 23 years, until the plant closed. He then worked at Bendix,
retiring after 16 years.
In George’s younger years, he played guitar with several bands in the surrounding area. He was
also avid hunter, fisherman and golfer.
George is survived by Marjorie, his wife of 69 years; a son, Charles R. (Judy) Bowen; a
daughter, Carolyn J (George) Buday; grandchildren: Keith A. Bowen, Kimberly A. (Scott)
Wieczorck, Kevin A. (Laura) Bowen, Matthew M. (Hillary) Coons, Michael Skidmore; great grandchildren
Alex, Bryce and Connor Wieczorck, Ashley Bowen, David Sayer; Lexie and
Harrison Coons; and a sister, Ruth Bowman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles E. Bowen, Jr.; and a sister, Lucille
Books.
Friends are invited to share their memories with George’s family from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct.
15 at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Tom
Padberg, Chaplain of the Center For Hospice and Palliative Care officiating.
Burial will be in Morris cemetery, located on U.S. 6 west of LaPaz.
Memorial contributions in George’s name may be made to charity of the donor’s choice.

James Croy
CULVER — James “Jimmy” Croy, 39, of Culver, died unexpectedly at 10:08 a.m. Monday, Oct.
12, 2009 in Culver while walking the family dog, Gizzie.
He was born Sept. 26, 1970 to Scott and Debbie Croy, who survive. Additional survivors include
his life-long partner, Michele Trusty; their son, Justin James Croy of Culver; his sister, Ragan
Croy (Scott) Breiter; and brother, Nathanael J. Croy, both of Flower Mound, Texas.
He also leaves behind many close aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, as well as
many friends.
Jimmy graduated from Culver Community High School in 1989 where he was known and is
remembered for his weight lifting and wrestling records. He owned and operated Croy’s Car
Connections in Plymouth for several years and most recently was a dealer in antiques and
collectibles.
Friends will remember him from flea markets and auctions where he engaged in his favorite
hobby which was to buy things from people who wanted to sell things and to sell things to those
who were looking to buy things.
He was a cigar aficionado and enjoyed fishing along with taking road trips with his family. Jimmy
was an avid collector of Culver postcards and other Culver memorabilia. One of his favorite past
times was spending time with his family and reminiscing, looking at photographs and reliving
fond memories. Because of his kindness to all and his loving heart, he will be dearly missed by
all who knew and loved him.
A time of sharing memories with the family will be held at the Odom Funeral Home, Culver,
Thursday, Oct. 15 from 2 to 8 p.m. and one hour before the service Friday at the church.
Rev. Floyd Allen and Paul Bigley will officiate funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16 at the
Gospel Lighthouse Church in Delong, Ind.
Interment will follow at the Culver Masonic cemetery.
Memorials may be given in Jimmy’s memory to a trust for his son Justin at the First National
Bank of Monterey.
The Odom Funeral Home, Culver, is in charge of arrangements.

Dale W. Geyer
BREMEN — Dale W. Geyer, 91, of Bremen, died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009 at his home.
He is survived by his wife Ruby; sons: Larry D. (Jane) Geyer of Murrells Inlet, S.C. and Craig
(Rebecca) Geyer of Bremen; a daughter, Beverly Ann (Larry) Hough of Lakeville; five
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15 at the Mishler Funeral
Home, 2030 S.R. 331, Bremen.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16 at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Bremen cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Center for Hospice of to the South Bend Military Honor Park,
Progress Drive in South Bend.

Shirley R. (Alliss) Lake
WARSAW — Shirley R. (Alliss) Lake, 78, of Warsaw, died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009 at Miller's
Merry Manor, Warsaw.
She is survived by daughters: Mindy Beland of Goshen and Laura (Brian) Wilson of Wheat
Ridge, Colo.; a granddaughter; sisters: Mary (Alliss) Knowles of Grand Tower, Ill., Virginia
(Alliss) (Ernest) Rowe of Plymouth and Janet (Alliss) (Robert) Lortie of Ligonier, Ind.; and
brother, Roger (Carol) Alliss of Frankfort, Ill.
Funeral services will take place Thursday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. at New Oakhill cemetery Chapel,
Plymouth.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, Warsaw or the Kosciusko County Hospice.
Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, was entrusted with arrangements.

David A. Lee
PLYMOUTH – David A. Lee, 63, a lifetime Plymouth resident, died in the loving care of his
family, friends and the Marshall County Hospice, at Pilgrim Manor Nursing Center, at 10:55 a.m.
Monday morning, Oct. 12, 2009.
Born in Plymouth, the son of Virgil E. and Catharine L. Day Lee Aug. 27, 1946, Dave was a
graduate of Plymouth High School in the class of 1964.
On June 26, 1965, in Plymouth, he and Janet R. Bair were married in the Pretty Lake Trinity
United Methodist Church. Janet preceded him in death Nov. 28, 2000.
A self-employed carpet installer, Dave had installed carpet in many homes and businesses in the
area. Dave enjoyed camping with family and friends in most of Indiana’s State Parks.
He also enjoyed watching television, especially NASCAR races, going to flea markets and
spending time with his grandchildren.
David is survived by two sons and their families. They are Mark A. and fiancée Pam Mahler and
their children: Austyn Lee, Ashley Mahler and Makaela Mahler and Scott D. and Dolly Lee and
their children Crystal, and Scottie, Jr., all of Plymouth.
He is also survived by his mother, Catharine L. Lee, a sister, Mary Burdon, both of Peru, Ill., and
his mother and father-in–law, Dollie E. and Frank E. Bair, Jr., of Plymouth.
Dave was preceded in death by his wife, Janet and father, Virgil.
Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, in the Johnson-Danielson
Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Charles Krieg, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009,
in the funeral home.
Burial will be in New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorial gifts in Dave’s memory may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care or
to the Boys and Girls Club of Marshall County.
