Robert G. Selner
CHURUBUSCO — Robert G. Selner, 83, of 120 Windsor Drive, Churubusco, passed away at
9: 56 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at his home.
Robert was born on Dec. 13, 1924, in Wakarusa, to Emery and Gertrude (Birk) Selner. On June
11, 1949, Robert married the former Shirley A. PIttman, in Nappanee. Shirley passed away on
Dec. 16, 2006. Together they raised their six children. They moved from the Plymouth area, to
the Churubusco area in 1972. Robert had been employed by the Studebaker Company, in South
Bend, and retired from the E.H. Tepe Company of Fort Wayne, as the Stockroom Manager.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He enjoyed camping
with his family and friends. Robert was a member of the Churubusco Lions Club, Campers
Association of Indiana, and was a past President of the Marshall County Pathfinders.
Robert is survived by his daughters: Sue and Tom Kowalski of Mishawaka, Linda Martin of
Lakeville, and Cindy and Eugene Michael of Fort Wayne; his sons: Tom and Sharon Selner of
Plymouth and Bruce and D.J. Selner of Ashley; nine granddaughters; five grandsons; three great
grandsons; and two great-granddaughters; his sisters: Mildred Miller and Nancy Kindly; and his
brothers, Charles Selner and George Selner. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley;
his daughter, Penny Sue; two sisters; and a grandson.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at the VAN GILDER FUNERAL HOME,
at 11 a.m., with the Rev. David L. Detamore officiating.
A time of visiting with the Selner family will be on Friday, Oct.10, 2008, from 5 to 8 p.m. and
Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the VAN GILDER FUNERAL HOME, 300 W.
Madison St., Plymouth, IN 46563.
Burial will be in New Oak Hill cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association, 7363 East 21st
Street, Indianapolis, IN, 46219.

Howard S. Wilhelm
ARGOS — Howard S. Wilhelm, 92, of Argos, died at 9: 30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at
Woodlawn Hospital in Rochester.
He is survived by his sisters: Mary (Donald) Hayn of Argos and Dorothy (Bill) Graham of Peru;
and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Garden Court Conference Room, in Argos, Tuesday, Oct.
14 at 10: 30 a.m.
Burial will be in the Maple Grove cemetery, Argos, at 11: 30 a.m., following the memorial service.
The Van Gilder Funeral Home, Plymouth, has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Thomas E. Baxter
KNOX — Thomas E. Baxter, 69, of Knox, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008 at Simon Cancer
Center in Indianapolis. Thomas was born Nov. 11, 1938 in Princeton, Ill. to Aaron E. and Marion
(Yarrington) Clements Baxter, both deceased.
He retired from Exterior Designers in Valparaiso and spent his retirement traveling, playing his
banjo and spending time with his family. He was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church of
South Haven. He married his beloved wife of 52 years, Gloria J. Cherry of June 12, 1956, she
survives. Also surviving are their children: Thomas J. (Brooke) Baxter of Valparaiso, Misti
Everage of Hamlet, Cynthia (Ralph) Dalton of Plymouth and Laurie (Kenneth) Woelk of Knox; a
brother, Larry (Milena) Baxter of Knox; sisters: Joyce Miracle of Hobart and Tina (Doug) Hepp of
Schererville; stepmother, Dorothy Baxter of Hobart; and his greatest pleasures in life his 11
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Carl Laverne Clements of French Lick.
According to his wishes, services and interment will be private.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Leukemia Foundation in his name.
M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox is in charge of arrangements.

Darlene Susan "Sue" Doty-Elizondo
NORTH JUDSON — Darlene Susan "Sue" Doty-Elizondo, 53, of North Judson, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008.
She is survived by her husband, Gilbert Elizondo; a son Martin (Holly) Fassoth of Portage; two
daughters: Justine (Frank) Doty-Companik of North Judson and Amanda Follow of Ariz. and a
sister, Sharon Young of North Judson and sister Sharon Young of North Judson.
Visitation will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13 until the time of services at Braman and
Bailey Funeral Home, 6020 S. Oakwood, North Judson.
Funeral services will take place Monday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Reed cemetery, Winamac.

Helen J. Kelly
ROCHESTER — Helen J. Kelly, 79, of Rochester, died at 4: 45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008 at
Life Care Center of Rochester.
She is survived by her husband, Van Kelly; daughter, Barbara Buckingham of Port Charlotte,
Fla.; son, Brad (Brenda) Kelly of Kewanna; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and
brother, Billy Richard (Irene) Nickell of Logansport.
Visitation is Thursday, Oct. 9 from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services Friday at the Good
Family Funeral Home, Rochester. Funeral services are Friday, Oct. 10 at 10 a.m. at the funeral
home.
Memorials may be made to Pheasants Forever.

Jeffrey D. Willhite
CULVER — Jeffrey D. Willhite, 37, of Culver, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008 at 11: 17 p.m. at Saint
Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend.
He is survived by his father, Henry Lee Willhite Sr. of Culver; his mother, Gladys Willhite of
Culver; his son, Zachary Willhite and two brothers: Michael Lee Willhite and Henry Lee Willhite
Jr., both of Culver.
Visitation will take place at Culver Academies Memorial Chapel, Culver, Monday, Oct. 13 from 4
to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will take place at the chapel Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the
Culver Masonic cemetery.
Bonine-Odom Funeral Home, Culver, is in charge of arrangements.

Minnie Ellen Bennitt
BREMEN — Minnie Ellen Bennitt, 86, of Bremen, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008 at her residence.
She is survived by daughters: Connie (Bob) Hummel of St. James, Mo., Barb (Nick) Kintzel of
Warsaw, Pam (John) Zeiger of Bremen and Karen (Joel) Dillon of Bremen; sons: Jack (Carolyn)
Bennitt of Bremen and Bob (Judy) Bennitt of Plymouth; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Willard of
Kansas; 23 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and sisters:
Margaret Simpson of New Carlisle,
Beverly Gray of Redlands, Calif., Reva Giles of Henderson, Nev., Elaine Lathrop of Kouts and
Eldean Ebanks of Oceano, Calif.
Visitation is Sunday, Oct. 12 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen. Funeral
services are Monday, Oct. 13 a 10: 30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Bremen
cemetery.

Lewis Jones
CULVER — Lewis Jones, 93, of rural route Culver, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008 at
Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
Lewis was born on Feb. 9, 1915 in Burr Oak to Samuel and Bertha (Houghton) Jones.
Upon his graduation from Culver High School in 1932, he traveled cross country ending up in
Central Oregon where he met his "red headed gal", Marguriete (Margie) Mason. They were
married at the Portland Army Air Base in Portland, Ore. on Jan. 24, 1943.
After serving his country during WWII he returned to Madras, Ore. for a few years before moving
his family back to Indiana. Lewis owned and operated a service station in Burr Oak while also
working as a machinist for several companies in South Bend. He then took his family to a small
farm in Grovertown where they spent the next six years.
In 1962 he returned to the Burr Oak area to the family farm where he continued to live.
Lewis retired from McGill's Manufacturing in Culver in 1980.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Margie; daughter, Mildred (Milly) Olle of Berwyn, Ill.;
daughter-in-law, Patricia Jones of Michigan City; grandsons: Ron (Barb) Olle of West Chicago,
Ill. and Jim Olle of Schaumburg, Ill.; granddaughter, Michelle Jones of Michigan City; and great-grandchildren:
Amanda, Briana, Sarina, Sophia, Jaedon, Giovanni, Amani, Johntay, and Jamari.
Also numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Jimmy; brothers: Floyd, Glen, Thomas; sisters:
Hazel and Gladys; and great-grandson, Johntarias.
A celebration of Lewis' life will be held Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008 at 2 p.m. EDT at the Emmanuel
United Methodist Church in Culver, where he was an active member.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel United Methodist Church,
401 S. Main S., Culver, IN 46511.
The Bonine-Odom Funeral Home, Culver, is in charge of arrangements.

Ernest A. Ross
PLYMOUTH — Ernest A. Ross, 83, of west Washington Street, Plymouth, Ind., died at 11 a.m.,
on Wednesday, October 8, 2008, at his home.
Ernest is survived by his daughters, Debra K. Holland of Walkerton, Ind. and Sara Jane and Jon
Wentzel of Plymouth; his sons, James and Sue Ross of Plymouth and John and Mary Ross of
Plymouth; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison St., Plymouth, IN, 46563, has been entrusted
with the arrangements.
According to Ernest’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral services.

Wilma Troyer
CULVER — Wilma Troyer, 73, 19411 15th Road, Culver, died of natural causes at her
residence at 12: 39 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008.
Born in Hamlet on Nov. 17, 1934, Wilma was the daughter of William and Myrtle Crabb
Whitehead. She graduated from Knox High School with the class of 1952.
On Aug. 11, 1954, in Rochester, Wilma and Lewis Troyer were married .
For 20 years, doing assembly work, Wilma was employed at Federal Mogul in Leiters Ford.
She was an active and diversified person. Wilma crocheted and rode motorcycles. She collected
carousel horses and was a consummate Elvis Presley fan. She gardened and canned her produce.
Most of all she enjoyed being with her family.
Wilma was a member of a Rochester ladies’ bowling league.
She is survived by her husband and by a two sons and a daughter.
Her son is Richard (Deborah) Troyer of Troy, Ala., and by their four sons: Richard Troyer, Jr.,
and Steven L. Troyer, both of Troy, Ala.: Glen S. Troyer, Cody, Wy., and Travis J. Troyer,
Plymouth.
Two great-granddaughters: Hanna Troyer, Plymouth, and Haley Troyer, St. Petersburg, Fla.,
also survive.
Her son is Brent Allen Troyer, Culver, and his son Joshua Allen Troyer, Plymouth.
Cheryl Lynn Lowry, Wilma’s daughter, of Delong, also survives along with her sons and
daughter: Brian Keith (Renessa) Troyer of Goshen, Nicole Renee Wilson, Ark., and Cory
Edward Lowry, Delong.
Eight great-grandchildren are: Shelby K. Troyer, Rochester, and Logan Wayne Troyer, Goshen:
Deric J. Wilson, Zachary Lewis Wilson, Alexis K. Wilson and Mikalaya Wagner, all of Arkansas,
also survive, together with Cameron Lance Lowry and Merissa Lowry, Goshen.
A daughter-in-law, Tammy Troyer, Warsaw, and two grandsons and a granddaughter, survive as
well. They are Kevin Michael Troyer, Austin, Texas, and Brandin and Sydney Renae Troyer,
both of Warsaw.
Wilma was preceded in death by her son, Leslie Wayne Troyer, a sister, Lois Triplet and her
parents.
Friends are invited to share memories and celebrate the life of Wilma Troyer from 4 to 8 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1110 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Wilma will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, in the funeral
home. Floyd Allen of the Delong Lighthouse will officiate.
Burial will be in the New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorials in Wilma’s name may be made to charity of the donor’s choice.

Darrell "Buck" Elliott
Darrell “Buck” Elliott died Oct. 9, 2008 in Inman, S.C. at the age of 70. He was born Aug. 10,
1938 to his loving parents the late Alfred I. and Dorthea M. Elliott in Argos, where he was raised.
He proudly served his country in the United States Marines. Upon his honorable discharge from
the Marine Corp in April of 1959, he began a 40 year career with R.R. Donnelley & Sons in
Warsaw, and retired from the Spartanburg, S.C. facility.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Elliott; daughter, Lonna Sue Hughey; son, Roger T. Elliott; three
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of Campobello, S.C.; sister, Mildred Elliott
Osborn of Lafayette; brother-in-law, Joe Rex of Argos; along with many nieces and nephews.
Buck is preceded in death by his parents, son; Terry Elliott, brother; Earl Elliott; three sisters;
Fern Elliott Goen, Joyce Elliott Warner and Mary Lou Elliott Rex.
Local arrangements have been entrusted with the Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, Argos.

Carolyn Sue Foshee
PLYMOUTH — Carolyn Sue Foshee, 51, died at her residence at 3: 30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008.
She is survived by her husband, John of Plymouth; niece, Jennifer Allen of Knox; stepson, Joe J.
Foshee of Chicago, Ill.; stepdaughters: Janet M. Moloney of Illinois and Deborah A.
(Christopher) Phillips, Mundelin, Ill.; and a brother-in-law, Joe Allen of Knox.
Visitation is Sunday, Oct. 12 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home,
Plymouth. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be at Round Lake
cemetery, North Judson.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and the Feed the Children’s Fund.
