Wanda Marie McCammon

SULLIVAN - Wanda Marie McCammon, 80, of Portage and formerly of Sullivan died at 1:15 a.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, in Portage Community Hospital. She was a homemaker. She was born Jan. 26, 1923, in Bicknell to Hubert Ashcraft and Erma Snow Murphy. Her husband, Glen McCammon, died Oct. 9, 1984. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, George and Donna McCammon, and Glen and Judith McCammon, all of Portage; one daughter, Sherry Sanders of Medearyville; one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Pat Ashcraft of Seattle; nine grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Thomas McCammon and Joseph McCammon; one daughter, Vivian Gard; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; and two sisters, Pauline Cook and Vivian Michelle Root. She attended the Church of the Nazarene. Graveside services are 1 p.m. Tuesday in Center Ridge cemetery, with the Rev. Brian Sorensen officiating. There is no visitation. Alexander-Kean Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Macie M. Hull

BRAZIL - Macie M. Hull, 92, of Brazil died at 7:35 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, in St. Vincent Clay Hospital. She was born Aug. 26, 1910, in Logan, W.Va., to Robert L. Ray and Mary M. Chambers Ray. Her husband, Walter L. Hull, died Nov. 24, 1994. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Downey and Joyce Swartz; four sons, Cordell Hull, Lowell Thomas Hull, Richard Hull and Walter "Butch" Hull; one sister, Iris Thompson; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday in First Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Al Dicer officiating. Burial is in Summit Lawn cemetery. Visitation is one hour before services in the church. Lawson-Slack Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Joseph Maxwell Ralston

CLINTON - Joseph Maxwell Ralston, 81, formerly of Clinton died Thursday, Feb.13, 2003, in Wellington Manor in Indianapolis. He was born July 10, 1921, in Clinton to Joe Ralston and Anna McCune Ralston. His wife, Rosealice Goff Ralston, died April 29, 1993. Survivors include one son, Joe Ralston; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Services are 1 p.m. Monday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel in Terre Haute, with the Rev. David Deal officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute. Visitation is noon until services Monday.

Geneva V. Asberry

Geneva V. Asberry, 79, of Terre Haute died at 5:10 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2003, in Harborside Healthcare. She retired as a schoolteacher from Shelby County School Corp. She was born May 3, 1923, in Vigo County to Edwin Hall and Etta Reed Hall. Survivors include her husband, Arlie G. Asberry, whom she married Sept. 22, 1947; one son, Gil Asberry and wife Jeanie; three daughters, Ila G. Wren, Ramona Norman and husband Andy, and Tina Davis and husband Randy; and nine grandchildren, Amy Lahey, Jill Hicks, Rebecca Norman, Mark Norman, Paul Norman, Tiffany Asberry, Leslie Asberry, Grant Davis and Ross Davis. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Edwin Hall and Dale Hall; and two sisters, Aretha Porter and Irma Hall. She was a member of First Prairie Creek Baptist Church and the Prairie Creek Home Ec Club, where she was the longtime secretary. Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with the Rev. Ray Dyer officiating. Burial is in Prairie Creek West Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 9135 N. Meridian St. Suite B-4, Indianapolis, IN 46209, with envelopes from the funeral home.

Sister Francis Michael (Rita Lorraine) Driscoll

Sister Francis Michael Driscoll, 84, of St. Mary-of-the-Woods died at 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2003, in Karcher Hall. She was a teacher. The former Rita Lorraine Driscoll was born Dec. 6, 1918, in Everett, Mass., to Charles W. Driscoll and Elizabeth Ann Slater Driscoll. Survivors include one sister, Eleanor Peters, of Everett, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Dorothy Fields and Marion Driscoll; and two brothers, Charles Driscoll and Joseph M. Driscoll. She attended Everett Public Immaculate Conception Grade School in Everett, Mass. Cheverus High School in Malden, Mass., St. Mary-of-the-Woods College receiving her bachelors degree in English. She received her master's degree in education from Indiana State University and her master's degree in Religious Studies from Providence College, Providence, R.I. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Providence on Aug. 4, 1936, professed First Vows March 11, 1939, and Final Vows Jan. 23, 1945. She taught in schools staffed by the Sisters of Providence in Indiana, Illinois, District of Columbia, Massachusetts, and Maryland. For eight years she was Provincial in St. Raphael Provincial House, Fall River, Mass. She taught 15 years in St. Rose, Chelsea, Mass. She was Ecclesiastical Advocate Diocesan Tribunal, Diocese of Joliet, Ill., for 10 years. Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Church of Immaculate Conception, with the Rev. Daniel R. Hopcus officiating. Burial is in the cemetery of the Sisters of Providence. Wake is 2:30 p.m. in Providence Hall, with wake service at 4:30 p.m. in the church. The Callahan Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Cecile "Cee" Maples

Cecile "Cee" Maples 78, of West Terre Haute died at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, in Harbour Manor Care Center in Noblesville. She retired in 1979 from the housekeeping department at Indiana State University. She was born Sept. 10, 1924, in Vigo County to Harry Fisher and Minnie Mae Slavens Fisher. Survivors include one daughter Dicie Jones and husband Herbert of Noblesville; one son, Bob Gowan; one brother, Wilber Fisher both of Terre Haute; eight grandchildren, Jackie Thompson, and husband Randy of Noblesville, Herb Jones and wife Vickie, Nancy Gilbert and husband Frank, Cindy Reagin and husband Max, Lisa Wilbur and husband Chris, Bobby Gowan and wife Lisa, Tom Gowan and wife Terri all of West Terre Haute, and Mary Ann Roberts and husband Earl of Anderson; 15 great-grandchildren including one special great-grandson Panky; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Dorothy Porter. Services are 11 a.m. Friday in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Wilbur officiating. Burial is in Pleasantview cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. until service time.

Willa L. Tyler

Willa L. Tyler, 77, of Terre Haute died at 10:13 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2003, in her residence. She retired from the Vigo County School Corp. in 2000. She was born June 3, 1925, in Hopkinsville, Ky. to Morton Mumford and Luna Fortson Mumford. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, the Rev. Clarence N. Tyler, whom she married Oct. 11, 1947; two sons, Ronald L. Tyler of Terre Haute and Burton R. Tyler and wife Yolanda of Dallas; five daughters, Melody G. Jones and husband Leland and Winfred C. Gilbert and husband Earl all of Dallas, Clarice M. Cheeks and husband Melvin of Louisville, Ky. and Dimple L. Tyler and husband Ben of Los Angeles, and Leslie J. Baynard and husband Barry of Greencastle; 17 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; her mother-in-law, Nellie L. Tyler; and a host of nieces, nephews, and relatives and in-laws. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Nona Mumford and Rosa Merriwether; three brothers, George, Peter, and Leon Mumford; one son, Dwight N. Tyler. She attended Wayne State University. She was a member of Highland Missionary Baptist Church and was president of the senior choir and a member the missionary society. She also was a member of the Southwestern District of the Indiana State Missionary Baptist Associstion and a member of Ministers Wives Council of the same district. She loved singing, art, painting, and upholstering. Services are 1 p.m. Saturday in Highland Missionary Baptist Church, 2851 N. 13th 1/2 St. with the Rev. Kenneth Ladd officiating. Burial is in Stewart Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. Dunn Family Mortuary assisted with arrangements.

Debora Wynne Whitt

Debora Wynne Whitt, 43, of Terre Haute died at 8:40 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2003, in her residence. She was retired from 181st Airborne Fighter Wing. She was born March 27, 1960, in Nashville, Tenn., to Joe Paradise and Lucille Fort Paradise. Survivors include her husband, Andy Whitt; one daughter, Michelle Armstrong and husband Erik, all of Terre Haute; one brother, Gary Tanner; four sisters, Paula Lambert, Charlotte Swafford, Carla Talley and Billy Jo. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 and affiliated with Boy Scouts of America and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Services are 11 a.m. Friday in Callahan Funeral Home with Chaplain William Yates officiating. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 also will conduct services at the funeral home. Burial is in Memorial Gardens cemetery in Springfield, Tenn. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 10-11 a.m. on Friday. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either Vista Care Hospice or The American Cancer Society.

Susan M. Young

Susan M. Young, 94, of Terre Haute died at 9:10 a.m. Sunday, April 13, 2003, in Meadows Manor North Retirement and Convalescent Center. She was born July 28, 1908, in Greenbrier County, W.Va., to Locke Williams. Survivors include one son, Richard L. Young; two daughters, Eleanor Frazier and Janet Walker; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Private graveside services are Saturday in Lost Creek. W.Va. Burial is in Lost Creek. DeBaun Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.

Orrin M. Bevis

BRAZIL - Orrin M. Bevis, 93, of Brazil died at 11:41 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2003, in St. Vincent Clay Hospital. He was born on Sept. 1, 1909, in Saline City to Roy M. Bevis and Gladys A. Jones Bevis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret C. Gifford Bevis who died Feb. 9, 1995. Survivors include one son Jerrold O. Bevis and wife Sandra Bevis; one daughter-in-law, Dixie Bevis; one brother, Herbert H. Bevis; three sisters, Carrie Campbell, Imogene Brewer, and Jacque Tammuci; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday, in Miller Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Ciano officiating. Interment will be in Calvary cemetery in Terre Haute. Visitation is 9 a.m. Thursday until the services.

Jerry Ritchie Chubb

SULLIVAN - Jerry Ritchie Chubb, 64, of Warsaw and formerly of Sullivan, died at 8 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2003, in Kosciuskco Community Hospital in Warsaw. He was a math and computer teacher at Warsaw High School from 1970-1989. He was born Dec. 1, 1938, in Sullivan to Roy Chubb and Nellie Ritchie Chubb. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Alexander Chubb, whom he married on July 17, 1965; one son, Christopher Dale Chubb of Jacksonville, Fla.; one daughter, Julie Ann "Marty" Sheckler of Uniondale; one brother, Lonie Chubb of Baker, La., and five grandchildren. He was named Educator of the Year in 1987. He also worked at Loy's Music Co. He also worked at Rensselaer High School for five years. He was a member of Milford Christian Church where he served as a deacon. He also was a member of the Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club and had a 30-year perfect attendance record and served as secretary/treasurer. In 1986 he was named Optimist of the Year. He was a member of Warsaw American Legion Post 49. He served in the U. S. Air Force from 1958-1963 in Turkey. He was a 1957 graduate of Sullivan High School and earned a bachelor of science degree and a master's degree from Indiana State University. Graveside services are 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at Center Ridge cemetery in Sullivan with the Rev. Marty Shecker officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 139 in Sullivan, Post 197 in Shelburn and Post 298 in Hymera. Visitation is noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Alexander-Kean Funeral Home in Sullivan. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials can be given to the Sullivan First Christian Church Choir Scholarship Fund or the Warsaw Optimist Scholarship Fund through the funeral home.

Perl Van Sant

CAYUGA - Perl Van Sant, 82 of Cayuga died at 7:15 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2003, in Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis as a result of injuries sustained in a car-train accident. He was born Dec. 5, 1920, in Cayuga to Perl Van Sant Sr. and Elva Allee Van Sant. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leota M. Kesner on Jan. 7, 1997. Survivors include three sons, Ronald Van Sant and wife Marcia, Jerold Van Sant and wife Wilma, and Kevin Van Sant and wife Tonya. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Centennial cemetery in Yeddo with the Rev. William Lehman officiating.

Mary F. Rosella Tennis

CLINTON - Mary F. Rosella Tennis, 79, of Clinton died Monday, April 14, 2003, in Union Hospital. She was a homemaker. She was born May 6, 1923, in Clinton to John Ferrari and Wilma Dubre Ferrari. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Edward Matthews, and Raymond Tennis. Survivors include one son, John "Red" Matthews and wife Emma Lou Matthews; one step-daughter, Sheila Smith of Florida.; one step-son, Ron Tennis of Illinois.; one sister Cynthia Watts; one brother John and wife Betty Ferrari all of Bartonsville, Ill.; several grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by one sister and brother-in-law, Jacqueline and Charles Edwards. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Pocahontas Lodge, Eastern Star Jerusalem 254, Eagles Auxillary 887, American Legion Auxillary, St. Bernice Post 108. Services are 10 a.m. Thursday in Frist Funeral Home with the Rev. Joseph Villa officiating. Burial is in Walnut Grove cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
