Dorothy J. Hammack
age 85; of Madison
Funeral services for Dorothy J. Hammack, 85, of Madison, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at the First Baptist Church, Madison, with burial in Springdale Cemetery. She died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at her home.
She was a native of Madison and was a member of Madison Chapter 530, Order of Eastern Star and the Evening Belles Home Economic Club. She and her husband owned and operated the former Hammack's IGA and the Piggly-Wiggly Grocery Store on West Main Street, Madison, for several years.
Survivors include her husband, Charles B. Hammack; three daughters, Carolyn Strouse and her husband, Danny, Madison, LaVergne Helton and her husband, Bill, Jeffersonville and Dottie Crawford, Madison; a son, Wes Hammack, Madison; a sister, LaVergne Dorsch, Belleair, Fla.; six grandchildren, Cary Strouse and his wife, Julie, Weston, Fla., Curt Strouse and his wife, Laura, Madison, Chris Strouse and his wife, Carsha, Madison, Jennifer Ritchard and her husband, Ken, Louisville, Jillian Satterfield, Louisville and Jessica Helton, Jeffersonville; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Ralph Jenkins and six sisters, Ruth Christian, Irene Ungericht, Charlotte Kellems, Evelyn Roberts, Violet Jenkins and Burnette Callis.
Visitation at Vail-Holt Funeral Home, Madison Chapel, will be from 4 to 8 p.m. this evening, Wednesday, Feb. 19. Eastern Star memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. this evening at the funeral home. Visitation at the church will be after noon Thursday.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the First Baptist Church, Madison. Contributions envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Allen E. Zimmer
age 100; of Louisville
Funeral services for Allen E. Zimmer, 100, of Louisville, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 2233 Woodbourne Ave., Louisville, with a reception immediately following the service. He died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at Norton Suburban Hospital, Louisville.
He was the founder of Zimmer Advertising Agency in 1936. Henry McClaskey Jr. and Al Kinter became partners in 1946. In 1951 Emery F. Lewis became a member the firm and the name was changed to Zimmer, McClaskey and Lewis Inc. In 1952, he McClaskey and Lewis formed a corporation with Clinton Frank Agency in Chicago for a branch office in Richmond, Va., and in 1981, the business was purchased by McCann-Erickson of New York.
Following his retirement he authored two books, "The Strategy of Successful Retail Salesmanship," published by the McGraw-Hill Book Co. and later translated and marketed in West Germany, and "God, Make Me Brave For Life," published by Argus Communications.
He was a graduate of Jeffersonville High School and attended DePauw University, where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He became a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in 1950 and was an active member and former senior warden. He was a past member of the board of trustees for the Norton Memorial Hospital, chairman of Public Relations Committee for the Metro United Way, former board member of Goodwill Industries, and a member of the Pendennis Club since 1948. During World War II, he was a volunteer with the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 65 years, Ruth Pitkin Zimmer.
Survivors include his wife, the former Ruth Schindler; a daughter, Edith Johnson, Sherman, Conn.; four grandchildren, Susan Hernandez and her husband, Arthur of Lake Carmel, N.Y., Dr. Lowell Allen Roberts, Milton, Wash., Laura Wood and her husband, Steven, and Venetia Pihota and her husband, Richard, both of Hopewell Jct., N.Y.; three great grandsons, Christopher Michael and Matthew Allen Hernandez and Robert Pihota; and two cousins, Jane Clarke Morrow, Louisville and Alice Clarks Okeuoglu of Lexington, Ky.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23 at Pearson's Funeral Home, 149 Breckenridge Ln., Louisville.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Episcopal Church Home discretionary fund.
Wendell W. Eastman
age 72; Air Force veteran
A memorial service for Wendell W. Eastman, 72, of New Albany, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1015 E. Main Street, New Albany, with burial in New Albany National Cemetery. He died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003 at Hospice of Louisville Impatient Unit of Audubon Hospital, Louisville.
He was a native of New Albany, a retired auctioneer and owner of the W. W. Eastman Auctioneer Company, a United States Air Force veteran of the
Korean War, a member of the New Albany Optimist Club, Bonnie Sloan Post 28 American Legion, Indiana Auctioneers Association, Louisville Agriculture Club and a Church of The Advent Episcopal Church in Louisville.
Survivors include his wife, the former Marilou E. Egner, New Albany; a son, Brian Eastman, Surprise, Ariz., three daughters, Wendy Link, Owensboro, Ky., Debbie Case, New Albany and Lisa Beasey, Louisville; a brother, Jack Eastman, Houston; four grandchildren, Kevin and Lucy Link, and Stephanie and Kelli Case; and a dog, Chelsea.
There will be no visitation. The Market Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice & Palliative Care of Southern Indiana.
Olive E. Feiock
age 90' of New Albany
Funeral services for Olive E. Feiock, 90, of New Albany, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21 at the Oak Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes, New Albany, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. She died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003 at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services, New Albany.
She was the former Olive Bowling, a native of Elizabeth, past president of Psi Iota Xi and Coterie, a member of several bridge clubs and St. Marks United Church of Christ, where she served on the church council.
Survivors include her son and his wife, Dennis and Bonnye Feiock; three grandchildren, Heather Johnson, Kelly and Ryan Feiock; and a great grandchild, Kye Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence C. "Bud" Feiock.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20.

Benjamin Albert Sanderfer
age 73; of Georgetown
Funeral services for Benjamin Albert Sanderfer, 73, of Georgetown, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20 at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home, Georgetown, with burial in Indian Head, Md. He died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003 at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services, New Albany.
He was a native of Indianapolis, a member of the American Legion, a retired staff sergeant in the United States Army and also retired from the Capitol Police in Washington, D.C.
Survivors include his brother, William Sanderfer, Jeffersonville and a sister, Sharon Edwards, Indianapolis.
Larry Joe Smith Sr.
age 64; of Fredericksburg
Funeral arrangements for Larry Joe Smith Sr., 64, of Fredericksburg, are being made at Paul V. Shrader Funeral Home, New Albany. The body has been cremated. He died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003.
Survivors include three sons, Larry Joe Smith Jr., Scottsburg, and Kevin and Mark Smith, New Albany; two brothers, Kenneth Smith, New Albany and Lawrence Smith Jr., Floyds Knobs; two sisters, Janice Durham, Pekin, and Joyce Kaufer, New Albany.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Sr. and Sylvia Smith, New Albany; and a brother, Arthur Smith, New Albany.
Emmett Eugene Warfield
age 53; of New Albany
Funeral services for Emmett Eugene Warfield, 53, of New Albany, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21 at Jones Memorial AME Zion Church, 258 Ealy Street, New Albany, with burial in West Haven Cemetery, New Albany. He died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003 at his home.
He was a native of Louisville and a former employee of the Louisville Police Department.
Survivors include his wife, Anne Warfield; his mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Jimmy Jones; a daughter, Tanya Pulse; two sons, Shawn Warfield and Emmett Warfield III; a brother, Darrell Jackson; three sisters, Sherrie Jackson, Lynn Jackson and Kim Jackson; his grandmother, Dorothy Calhound; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation at the church will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20 and after 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 21. Baitys Funeral Home in New Albany is in charge of arrangements.

He died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003 at his home near Corydon.

age 72;
Korean War veteran
Funeral services for Louis J. Meece, 72, of Jeffersonville, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 9, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Jeffersonville, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Louisville. He died Friday, June 6, 2003, at his home.
He was a native of Independence, Kansas, a
Korean War veteran and retired consultant for American Commercial Barge Lines, Jeffersonville.
Survivors include three sons, Michael Meece, Memphis, Tenn., John Meece, Erlanger, Ky. and Jeffrey Meece, Woodlands, Texas; three daughters, Patrice Meece, Louisville, Karen Williamson, New Orleans, Louisiana, and Mary Michelle Meece, New York City, N.Y.; a brother, Richard Meece, Sandusky, Ohio and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Luken Meece.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 8 and after 9 a.m. Monday.
Birdie E. Wilson
age 75; of New Albany
Funeral services for Birdie E. Wilson, 75, of New Albany, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 9, at Oak Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes, with cremation to follow. She died Friday, June 6, 2003, at her home.
She was the former Birdie E. Huber, a native of New Albany and a member of Parkway Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Donald R. Wilson; a son, Charles A. Jenkins Jr., Scottsburg; five daughters, Anna L. Kaufer, Sellersburg, Carolyn J. Webb, Louisville, Linda K. Hehemann and Tammie S. Bratcher, Jeffersonville and Marjorie A. Hether, Henryville; two brothers, Rev. August Huber, Lanesville and Orland "Gene" Huber, Georgetown; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Visitation at the funeral home will be after 11 a.m. Monday.
