Phyllis Jean Brown

July 3, 1924 to July 8, 1987
Phyllis Jean Brown, 63, Monon, died at 11:55 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette, after a 4 1/2 year illness. She was born July 3, 1924, in Lee, Ind., the daughter of Glenn T. and Georgia Hayes Culp.

A retired nurse with the North White School Corp., she married Billy 0. Brown, July 7, 1946, in Francesville. She graduated from the Gary Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. A member of the Monon United Methodist Church in Monon, she is survived by her husband, father, and two sons: Jeffrey Brown, Monon, and Timothy Brown, Brookston, and four grand children. One sister and her mother preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be at the Stewart Funeral Home in Monon, at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, with Pastor Randy Miller officiating. Burial will be in Bedford Cemetery. Friends may call at the Stewart Funeral Home after 5:00 p.m., Friday.

Laureen Bruckman

December 25, 1920 to April 25, 1999
Laureen Bruckman, 78 of Monticello died Sunday, April 25, 1999 at Twin Lakes Village in Monticello.

She was born December 25, 1920 in Monon, the daughter of John Thomas and Aletha Bumeta Mcpherson Hann. She married Herman Bruckman in Beverly, IL on January 19, 1963. He died March 23, 1993. Mrs. Bruckman was a resident of Twin Lakes Village for about a year. She had lived in Monticello since November 9, 1973 coming here from Kentland. She helped start the Senior Center in Kentland. She had lived in Lowell for some time, when she was a Secretary-Bookkeeper for Thrifty Marta for several years. She had also served as the Activity Director at Monticello Healthcare Center. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monticello.

She is survived by her step mother, Margie Hann of Monon; two sisters, Gloria Ann Eichelberg of Valparaiso and Kay Britton of Phoenix, AZ. One niece, Jan Qualkinbush of Monon and two nephews, Dennis Qualkinbush, Newport, KY and Thorn Qualkinbush of Riverside, IL. One brother, one sister, two nieces and two nephews preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be at the Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home in Monticello on Wednesday, April 28, at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Buffalo Cemetery, Buffalo.

Friends may call at the Voorhis Draper Funeral Home from 12-2 p.m. on Wednesday.

David Dean Bulington

December 9, 1973 - April 28, 2002
David Dean Bulington, 27, Delphi died Sunday, April 28, 2002 at his residence following a sudden illness.

He was born December 9, 1973 in Kentland, to Gerald Dean and Beatrice Eileen Keown Bulington.

He lived in Delphi for 13 years after moving there from Monticello..

Surviving are his parents, of Delphi, a son, Christopher Dean Bulington of West Lafayette; stepbrothers, Randall Morgan of Huntsville, Ala., and Shane Michael Morgan of Fayetteville, N.C.; and step sisters, Gloria Carter of Kentland and Debra Carter of Fayetteville, N.C.

Visitation will be at Kellogg Funeral Home in Monon on Thurs day from 11:00 to 1:00 with funeral services at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Steve Birch officiating.

Burial will be in Bedford Cemetery.

Barbara C. Burbage

[1928?] - March 6, 2002
Barbara C. Burbage, 74, of Dyer, Ind., passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2002.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond, of 56 years. There are five children, Shirley Burbage, Roger (Ruth) Burbage, Sr., Raymond (Terri) Burbage, Jr., Rosemary (Ted) Juergens and Scott (Sherri) Burbage; 11 grandchildren, Thomas (Angela) Brown, Jr., Barbara (Kenneth) Bonifield, Roger, Jr., Jennifer (Jim) Wagman, Michele Haughton, Jennette, Brett (Jennifer) Brandon, Timothy, Jeffrey and Sarah Juergens; 10 great grandchildren; three sisters, Freda Holdgate, Molly Gaylor and Betty Hardiman, all of England; brother-in-law, Stephen (Anna Belle) Burbage; many nieces and nephews in Monon, and England.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Robin Clark, a great grandson, Colton Bonifield, a brother, Percy Poole and a sister, both in England.

Mrs. Burbage was a member of Dyer United Methodist Church and was formerly employed at JoAnn's Restaurant and Cataldi's Drug Store, both in Dyer. She was a volunteer for Dyer Polling places, she loved cooking, gardening, family gatherings and was a WW II war bride.

Clarence J. Burns

July 4, 1918 to Nov. 28, 1996
Clarence J. "Kisser" Burns, 78, Arcadia, Florida, formerly of Monticello, died Thursday, Nov. 28, at DeSoto Memorial Hospital in Arcadia.

He was born July 4, 1918, to Arthur and Rosa Whiteman Burns, in Cass County. He was married Feb. 6, 1944, to Ina Marie Zootman. He was a White County farmer until 1968. He retired after 13 years from the Monticello Water Department. He was a former member of the Eagles and Moose Lodges.

Surviving with his wife are two sons, Robert A., New Haven and Douglas W., Chalmers; two daughters, Judith K. Hirt, McSherrystown, Pa. and Karen J. Fountain, Imperial, Mo.; a brother, Richard, Kokomo; two sisters, Jean Schoenke, Winchester and Delores Asher, Otterbein and eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

No local service was planned. Memorials may be given to the Leukemia Society of America. Arrangements were made by the James A. McKee Funeral Home in Nortb Port, Florida.

Infant Peyton Burrough

March 31, 1999
Infant Peyton Briar Burrough was stillborn Wednesday, March 31, at Lafayette Home Hospital.

His parents are Bryan Burrough and Heather Redlin of Lafayette. He is also survived by grandparents, Larry and Deb Redlin of Monon; Judith Zook of Monticello and John Burrough of Chicago; and great grandparents, Harold Wargo of Knox and Mr. and Mrs. John Burrough of Lucerne.

Private graveside services were conducted with the Rev. James R. Goodrum officiating. Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, was in charge of arrangements.

Paul L. Butler

July 4, 1971 to Oct. 7, 1998
Paul Louis Butler, 27, Wolcott, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 4:35 a.m. in St Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.

He was born July 4, 1971, to Paul Lawrence and Wilma Sue Stapleton Butler, in Dayton, Ohio. He was married May 11, 1991, to Shirley Jean Wheeldon in Buffalo, and she survives. He graduated from North White High School in 1989. He had been employed at Omni Forge, Wolcott, for 5 1/2 years. He had lived in White County most of his life and had lived in Wolcott for three years.

He is survived by his wife; his father, Paul Lawrence Butler, of Reynolds; his mother, Wilma Sue Stapleton England of New Tazewell, Tenn.; a brother, Daniel Lee Butler, New Tazewell, Tenn., and a sister, Shawn Ann Burkhart, Battle Ground.

Funeral services were Saturday at Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, with Rev. Steve Birch officiating. Burial was in the Bedford Cemetery, Monon.

Raymond H. Butz

February 21, 1923 to December 30, 2000
Raymond H. Butz, 77, of Brookston, died Saturday, December 30, 2000 at his home. He had been in failing health for three years.

He was born February 21, 1923 in Frankfort, the son of William and Edna Boyer Butz. He married Ruth Lennen in Lafayette on June 3, 1944. She survives Butz. He married Ruth Lennen in Lafayette on June 3, 1944. She survives. He was a 1943 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School. He was an U.S. Army veteran who served during World War 11 from 1943 - 46 as a Tech 4th Grade in the 375th Quartermaster Laundry Platoon in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He lived in Brookston since 1946, moving there from Lafayette. He owned and operated Butz Body Shop in Brookston from 1960 until his retirement in 1989. He was a 50 year member of Chalmers American Legion Post 268 and was a member of Libanus Lodge 154 F&AM of Monticello. He was a member of White County Area Plan and Variance Board for the past 20 years.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Jack R. (Cheryl) Butz and Joseph E. (Rita) Butz both of Brookston; two brothers, Charles Butz of Ridge Farm, IL and Elmer Butz of Sarasota, FL; a sister Mary (James) Rhoton of Ridge Park, IL. He had five grandchildren. Two brothers are deceased.

Funeral services were this morning at Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston with Rev. Jan Dinnick officiating. Burial with military rites by Chalmers American Legion Post 268 was at Rest Haven Cemetery, Lafayette.

Memorials may be made to the Brookston United Methodist Church.

Richard J. Byrnes

March 5, 1938 to Nov. 25,1999
Richard J. Byrnes, 61, died Thursday, Nov. 25, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette. He had been ill for several months.

He was born March 5, 1938, in Lansing, Michigan. He was married June 27, 1970, to Thelma J. Minger Scanlon in Chicago. She died Jan 15, 1989. He had served in the U.S. Air Force. He had lived in Monticello since 1984, coming here from Chicago. He was employed at Small Parts Inc. in Monticello.

He is survived by sons, Richard, William, Robert and Bruce, all of Lansing, Mich.; stepdaughters, Pamela Largent of Midlothian, Ill. and Lynette Danner, Monticello; a stepson, Michael Scanlon, Pueblo, Colo.; companion, Connie Dalka of Reynolds; brothers, Frank of Lansing, Mich, and Ronald of Mecosta, Mich.; sisters, Barbara Hanson and Dorothy Cwicig, both of Lansing and Betty Tepesano, California; several grandchildren, and four stepgrandchildren. A brother is deceased.

Funeral services were Monday at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark A. Pittman officiating Burial was in Remington Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Albert L. Byroad

April 13, 1918 to Jan, 29,1995
Albert L. Byroad, 76, of Delphi, died Sunday, Jan, 29, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, Delphi.

He was born April 13, 1918, to Roy and Ida Burns Byroad, in Monticello. He was married Aug. 11, 1940, to Edyth V. Lawson, in Wolcott, and she survives. He had lived for two years in the Delphi area, coming from Jensen Beach, Florida, where he resided for 23 years. He managed the Tropical Aires Mobile Home Park in Jensen Beach for 19 years, and retired in 1991. He was reared in the Monticello area and graduated in 1936 from Wolcott High School. He enjoyed woodworking and carpentry. He was a member of the Jensen Beach United Methodist Church.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Deanna L.) Ruemler, Brookston and Mrs. Lee (Sharon K.) Pence of Kendallville; two sisters, Shirley Smith, of Albermarle, N.C. and Mary Boys of Tucson, Ariz.; four granddaughters; eight great grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren and seven stepgreat grandchildren. A brother and a grandson are deceased.

The funeral was Wednesday at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, with Rev. Claude Stogsdlll officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Riverview Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Ralph W. Byroad Sr.

Jan. 2, 1939 to October 27,1998
Ralph W. Byroad Sr., 59, 4418 N.W. Shafer Dr., died Tuesday, October 27, at his residence. He had been ill for four months.

He was born Jan. 2, 1939, to Alfred Earl and Elvina E. Miller Byroad, in Monon. He married Jeanette Tomatier in New York in 1982, and she survives. He graduated from Francesville High School in 1956. He was a truck driver most his life, He had lived in Monon since May, prior to that he lived in Fort Plains, N.Y.

He is survived along with his wife in Fort Plains. N.Y.; by his mother in Monon; four sons, Ralph Jr., of Portage, George of Monon and Jerrod and Vincent, both of Fort Plains, N.Y.; three daughters, Wendy Caukins, Echo Byroad and Faith Byroad all of Fort Plains, N.Y.; a brother, Alfred Jr. of Bumpus Mill, Tenn.; three sisters, Donna Jean Willoughby, Monticello, Mary Bietzinger, Valparaiso and Darlene Moyer, Cheyenne, Wyoming and 10 grandchildren. A son and daughter are deceased.

Funeral services were Friday at Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, with the Rev. William Kehlhofer officiating Burial was in Bedford Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Nina (Sims) Cain

Jan. 29, 1913 - Dec. 22, 1999
Nina Cain, 86, formerly of Brookston, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, at St. Anthony Healthcare, Lafayette.

She was born Jan. 29, 1913, to Joseph T. and Hattie Goolsbey Sims, at Vernon, Ky. She was married Jan, 26, 1935, to Clennon Cain, in Tompkinsville, Ky. He died April 6, 1993. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Brookston Church of Christ.

She is survived by a son, Denton Cain, Brookston, a sister, Runnell Clay, Louisville, Ky., a brother, Hugh Sims, West Lafayette, four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. A son, C. Dale Cain, died in 1968.

Funeral services were Friday, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Shannon Toye officiating. Burial was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens at West Lafayette.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
