Jackie Lyman Bonnell

Jackie Lyman Bonnell, 68, of Evansville, died Friday, February 8, 2002, at his residence.

Mr. Bonnell retired from Red Spot Paint & Varnish Company in Evansville after 42 years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, with membership in Evansville Blue Lodge 64, Scottish Rite Temple, and Hadi Shrine Temple, as well as a member of No Ruz Grotto.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Illa Bonnell, and his brother, John Bonnell.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Novena (Bean) Bonnell of Evansville; four children, Jackie Sims (Gregory) of Norfolk, Va., Michael Bonnell of Evansville, Beth Schweikart (Jimmy) of Wadesville, Ind., and Brenda Bourne (Robert) of Mount Vernon, Ind.; 12 grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren, Sgt. Jennifer Estes of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, Douglas Hamilton, Misty Bonnell, Travis Bonnell, and Jason Dickinson, all of Evansville, Michele Smith of Richmond, Va., Kimberly Rivera and Natasha Sims, both of Norfolk, Va., Mary Greene of Newburgh, Christopher Dickinson and Josh and Jeremy Schweikart, all of Wadesville, Ind., and Tara Wolfe, Samuel and Kalynn Bourne, all of Mount Vernon, Ind.; 15 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bill and Larry Bonnell, both of Decatur, Ill., and Charles Bonnell of Alton, Ill.; three sisters, Patricia Day Kohlman and Janice Hammersley, both of Evansville, and Mary Wallace of Alton, Ill.; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Alexander Funeral Home North Chapel, the Reverend Garry Lanham officiating, with burial in Cottage Grove Cemetery in Cottage Grove, Ill., where there will be graveside services at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a Masonic Evansville Lodge 64 service at 6 p.m. Monday, at Alexander North Chapel.

George Leroy Brown

George Leroy Brown, 81, of Evansville, died Friday, February 8, 2002, peacefully at home.

Mr. Brown retired from the L&N Railroad and C.L. Franks, Inc. Mr. Brown was a World War II veteran, having served on the USS Wilkes-Barre and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1114.

Mr. Brown in survived by his wife, Evelyn (Thomas); his children, Ronald L. and Patrice Brown of Columbus, Ohio, Phyllis and Carl Schenk of Las Vegas, Nev., and Sharon and Jerry Mahler of Evansville; a stepdaughter, Judy Palmer of Evansville; a sister, Mary Jo Decker of Evansville; a brother, Henry Brown of Kansas City, Kan.; 13 grandchildren; and good friends Jim and Addie Taylor of Evansville.

Friends and relatives may call from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday at Browning Funeral Home on Diamond Ave. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Browning Funeral Home. Father Ray Brenner will be officiating, with burial directly following in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Deaconess/Ohio Valley Hospice.

Carla G. Christian

Carla G. Christian, 36, of Evansville, died Friday, February 8, 2002, in Atlanta, Ga.

She graduated from Harrison High School. She was also a graduate of USI, with a bachelor's degree in social work, and graduated from IUPUI in Indianapolis with a master's in social work. She had also received her license in clinical social work.

Carla had worked at Jerusalem House and the Atlanta Dialysis Center in Atlanta, Ga. She was a member of Metropolitan Seventh-day Adventist of Evansville and the Association of Black Social Workers.

Carla was a loving, caring daughter, sister and friend.

Carla was preceded in death by her father, John B. Christian in 1989; two aunts, Betty Craig and Doris Oliver; and two uncles, Richard Christian and Charles Scott.

Surviving are her mother, Leona Christian of Evansville; four sisters, Maryn Sisney and Lisa Tyler, both of Evansville, Brenda Christian of Atlanta, Ga., and Alicia Christian of Yonkers, New York; one brother, Scott Christian of Evansville; special nieces and nephews, Gretchen and Christopher Jordan and Christian Adegbaju, all of San Bernadino, Calif., and Christopher Sisney, Micah Tyler and Marie Nicole Elliott, of Evansville; her grandfather, Lee W. Martin of Grayville, Ill.; one aunt, Pauline Whitlock of Evansville; one uncle, Paul Christian of Evansville; several great-aunts and great-uncles; and a host of cousins and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Metropolitan Seventh-day Adventist Church, Dr. Donald Morris officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. A wake service will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday at Osborne Funeral Home.

Helen Denning

Helen (Wicks) Denning, 77, of Evansville, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at CORE Health and Rehabilitation.

Mrs. Denning retired from Welborn Baptist Hospital. She was a member of the East Side Christian Church and Women's Fellowship.

She is survived by two sons, Patrick Denning of Evansville and Jeffrey Denning of Cincinnati, Ohio; one sister, Donna Conner of Elberfeld, Ind.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2002, at East Side Christian Church on Bayard Park Drive, with Reverend Linda Parker officiating.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, February 10, 2002, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel and from 11 a.m. to service time at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Talking Book Service at Central Library.

Norman E. Humpert

Norman E. Humpert, 64, of Evansville, died at home Saturday, February 9, 2002, at 4:15 a.m.

Mr. Humpert is survived by his wife of 40 years, C. Sue Humpert. Their four children are John of Alexandria, Ky., Deborah Meyer of Evansville, Andrea of Vancouver, WA., and Michael of Evansville. Their three grandchildren are Elena of Alexandria, Ky., and Troi and Noah of Evansville. His sister, Mary Lou Gebhardt, resides in Newburgh.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.

A 1961 graduate of Evansville College, he earned a BS in Industrial Engineering. He retired in 1999 from Anchor Industries, Inc. He also worked at Shane Manufacturing, Can-Tex Clay Pipe Industries and International Steel.

He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Visitation will be from 3 until 8 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2002, at Pierre Funeral Home, where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Rev. David Nunning officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Agnes Catholic Church, Ivy Tech Foundation or Deaconess/Ohio Valley Hospice Care.

Richard Laugel

Richard Laugel, 68, of Evansville, died Saturday, February 9, 2002, at 2:05 a.m., at his residence.

Mr. Laugel served his country in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958. He retired in 1996 from CSX Railroad Corporation, after 34 years as a conductor. Mr. Laugel enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Esther (Grewe) Laugel of Evansville; two daughters, Lori Newman and Jeanne Cowan, both of Evansville; two sons, Scott Laugel of Evansville and Ric Laugel of Palm Harbor, Fla.; a sister, Sylvia Compton of Inverness, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Carter and Mallory Cowan, Owen and Anna Newman and Isaac Laugel.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2002, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, with entombment in Park Lawn Mausoeum.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2002, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Deaconess/Ohio Valley Hospice.

Burl Ray Lewis

Burl Ray Lewis, 83, of Evansville, formerly of Morehead, Ky., died Friday, February 8, 2002, at Deaconess Hospital.

He was a retired heavy equipment operator for General Refractories. He was a United States Army Veteran, having served during World War II.

Surviving are one son, David Ray Lewis, and his wife, Nancy of Evansville; two brothers, Sidney Clay Lewis of Clearfield, Ky., and Vincent Elwood Lewis of Greenup, Ky.; two grandsons, David Christopher Lewis and Brian Scott Lewis and his wife Christy, all of Evansville; two great-grandsons, Hunter Dane Lewis and Jacob Dillon Lewis; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be Tuesday, February 12, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home in Morehead, Ky., the Rev. Tim Rhodes officiating, with burial in Williams-Turner Cemetery in Elliottville, Ky.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Monday at Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home.

George W. McReynolds

George W. McReynolds, 86, of Evansville, passed away at his home on Friday, February 8, 2002. He retired from Century Electric in St. Louis, MO. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed bowling.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ of Evansville.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bernice; three sisters Mae Wall, Betty Fluty, and Barbara Shekell, all of Evansville; two brothers, Dea of Evansville and Marion of Tennyson; an aunt Ruby Andrews of Cynthiana, IN; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Monday, February 11, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Ziemer Funeral Homes Central Chapel. Dr. Louis Dorsch will be officiating. Burial will be in Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Sunday, February 10, 2002, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Vista Care Foundation or St. Paul's United Church of Christ.
