Jessie M. Cook

Jessie M. (Lee) Cook, 93, of Anderson, died Aug. 21, 2003, at ManorCare Nursing Center after an extended illness.
She was born Oct. 25, 1909, in Knox County .
She was a resident of Hammond most of her life and had also lived eight years in Indianapolis and moved to Anderson in 1988. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sisters, Carolyn West of Anderson and Mary House of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ned G. Cook; parents, Dayton F. and Clara (Paul) Lee; brothers, Alva, Nelson and Ralph; sisters, Irene, Helen and Phyllis.
Graveside services will be 3 p.m. today at Gravel Lawn Cemetery
in Fortville with Rev. Carol Scott officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Arrangements are being handled by Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service.
William E. Head
April 19, 1920 -- Aug. 19, 2003
William Earl Head, 83, of Anderson, died Aug. 19, 2003, at his home. He has lived in the Anderson area since 1967.
He was born April 19, 1920, in Moss, Clay County, Ind., to W. Hugh and Effie (Watkins) Head.
He married Odell Bailey Jan. 4, 1954, at Rossville, Ga. She died July 25, 2002.
He retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years, then retired from Indiana Department of Correction after 22 years.
He was a graduate of Red Boiling Spring High School in 1939. He was a combat veteran of World War II with the U.S. Army and retired as a sergeant first class. He served in the 6th Armor Division of Patton's 3rd Army. He earned a Silver Battle Star.
Survivors include a son, Gregory E. Head of Oxford, Miss.; daughter, Belinda L. Head of Anderson; four brothers, Ray Head of Tipton, Glen Head of Kokomo, Bobby Head of Kokomo and Bill Head of Sharpsville; and two grandchildren, Tristan Floyd and William Isaac Head.
He was preceded in death by a son, Terry L. Head.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Leatherman-Morris-Boyer Funeral Home in Tipton with Pastor Kenneth McClaine officiating. Burial will be in Sharpsville Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mildred Irwin
Nov. 21, 1906 -- Aug. 20, 2003
MIDDLETOWN -- Mildred (Ellis) Irwin, 96, of Middletown, died Aug. 20, 2003, at the home of her daughters in Middle-town.
She was born Nov. 21, 1906, in Kokomo, Ind., and resided in Middletown. She lived in this area since 1930.
She retired from J.C. Penney Co. with 20 years of service, after which, she retired at age 80 from Cooper's Sport Bowl restaurant after 20 years of service.
She was a member of Ovid Community Church. She enjoyed sewing and doing crafts.
She is survived by her two daughters, Eva Huntzinger of Middletown and Lillian Garner of Yorktown; five grandchildren, Jody and husband David Minnick, Gary and wife Helen Huntzinger, Gail and husband Wayne Tuckerman, Mark and wife Debbie Faye Garner, and Deborah K. Garner. Also surviving are 11 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Joel William Irwin; parents, Charles H. and Lillian Meriam (Stuckey) Ellis; and two brothers, Raymond Charles Ellis and Donald Ellis.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel, with the Rev. Keith Wooden officiating. Burial will be in Crown Point Cemetery
in Kokomo.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the South Chapel.
Contributions may be made to St. John's Hospice.

July 19, 1953 -- Aug. 20, 2003
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Jo Anne Jones, 50, former Anderson resident, died Aug. 20, 2003, at Greenview Regional Hospital in Bowling Green.
She was a caregiver.
Survivors include a son, Craig Carr; daughter, Carrie Carr Brown; mother, Augusta Gray; father, Ernest Jones; two sisters, Kay Jones, Carolyn MacArthur; and two grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Smith Funeral Home in Morgantown, Ky.
Visitation will be after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Kathryn A. O'Conner
Aug. 9, 1943 -- Aug. 20, 2003
Kathryn A. (Coy) O'Conner, 60, of Anderson, died Aug. 20, 2003, at St. John's Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 9, 1943, in Sterling, Ill., and resided in this area for 15 years.
She was a certified nursing assistant at ManorCare Health Services for four years.
She received her bachelor of science degree from Olivet Nazarene College. She was a member of the Ingalls United Methodist Church. She enjoyed and kept busy being a pastor's wife.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Joseph W. O'Conner; daughter, Dawn and husband Bryan Leach of Carmel; friend who was like a daughter, Jenny Lane; siblings, Ronald Coy of Sterling, Ill., Lorna Leigh of Des Moines, Iowa, Pat Fike of Rosie, Ark., Larry Coy of Sterling, Ill., Carol Bennett of Nevada; mother-in-law, Eva J. O'Conner of Grove City, Ohio; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donald E. O'Conner of Orient, Ohio, JoAnn Farmer of Triadelphia, W.Va., Michael O'Conner of Hampton, Va., Scott O'Conner of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Tyler Leach and Kristian Leach; godson, Davin Key; lots of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Pat and Denise Morrisey, Bob Ray and Hugo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Helen (Hodge) Coy; and sister, Rose Waltoneaugh.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel, 200 W. 53rd St., with the Rev. John Young officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery

A celebration of life dinner will be held at Ingalls United Methodist Church immediately following committal.

Elmer H. Peters
March 28, 1916 -- Aug. 20, 2003
PENDLETON -- Elmer Henry Peters, 87, a resident of Pendleton for the past two years, formerly of Plymouth, died at the Rawlins House Care Facility following a short illness, at 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003.
Elmer was born on March 28, 1916, in Michigan City. He was the son of Louie August and Anna Mary Barfknecht Peters.
On Sept. 2, 1939, in Bremen, Elmer took as his bride, Evelyn L. Marks, who survives along with a son, two daughters and their families.
His daughters are Jane A. and John H. Silvey of Middleton, Ind., and Cheryl A. and Barton N. Ball of Rochester, Ind.; Gary D. Peters, their son, lives in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Five grandchildren also survive. They are: Scott Silvey of Anderson, Brent and Nicole Silvey of Noblesville, Jarrod Ball of Muncie, Brad Ball of Blacksburg, Va., and Elyssa Peters of Grand Rapids, Mich.
A celebration of Elmer's life will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, phone (574) 936-2829.
Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Dean Fager, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
