Lois N. Mote, age 89, of Columbia City, IN passed away Sunday, October 31, 2010 at 8:53 p.m. at The Oaks, Columbia City. Born April 16, 1921 in Laud, Jefferson Township, IN she was the daughter of Otto and Dessie (Roberts) Ward.

Raised in Laud, she graduated from Jefferson Center High School with the Class of 1938. On February 24, 1940 she was united in marriage to Donald L. Mote in Laud. Former residents of Huntington and Indianapolis, Lois and Donald purchased the general store in Dunfee. After selling the grocery store, Don and Lois moved to St.Joe, IL where they lived until 1971 when they moved to Fort Wayne. After the death of her husband, Lois moved to Columbia City to be near her daughter, Vicki and family. She formerly worked for the Coil Factory in Roanoke; Paterson-Fletcher Clothing Store, Fort Wayne; assisted her husband in the grocery business in Dunfee; and for Dennis Research in Fort Wayne. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing euchre and watching IU Basketball until she became a resident of The Oaks in 2004.

Survivors include her 2 daughters, Vicki Lynn (Dane) Hosler of Columbia City and Patricia "Pat" (Arlan) Gilmeister of Hastings, MN; 5 grandchildren, Jodi (Jim) Auge of St. Mary's, GA, Jill Roy of Cottage Grove, MN, Denise (Tim) Hearld of Larwill, IN, Scott (Amy) Stansbery of Columbia City, and Ashlee Hosler of Fishers, IN; and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Mote in 1987, sisters, Peggy Binkley and Elma Simcoe, infant sister, Hazel Ward, brothers, Glen and Ralph Ward, and infant brothers, Walter and Ira Ward.

Visitation is Friday, November 5, 2010 from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral service is Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor James Clifford of Laud Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow at Jefferson Chapel (Sand Bank) cemetery. Memorials may be given in memory of Mrs. Mote to the donor's choice of charity. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

JAMES "JIM" LEROY SHELMADINE

James "Jim" Leroy Shelmadine Sr., age 72, of Fort Wayne, IN passed away Sunday, October 24, 2010 in Lawton, OK. Born August 14, 1938 in Columbia City, IN he was the son of Ray and Ruth (Underwood) Shelmadine.

He entered service with the United States Marine Corps August 31, 1955 at Fort Wayne, IN and was honorably discharged August 28, 1959 at Patuxent River, MD. Jim traveled Thailand, Japan and other countries as a cross country prisoner chaser. He then transferred to the Ninth Marine Corps Reserve and Recruitment District. Jim received the Good Conduct Medal.

On September 16, 1958 he married Janelle Pocowatchit in Lexington Park, MD. Jim enjoyed working in the yard, landscaping, spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Jim loved to spend his time with kids, old folks and animals. In his younger years, he had all kinds of critters including raccoons, horses, his dogs, raising cattle and pigs.

Survivors include his wife, Janelle Shelmadine of Fort Wayne; 2 sons and their spouses, Jim (Ruth) Shelmadine, Jr. of Arcola and Scott (Samantha Birk) Shelmadine of Columbia City; 5 grandchildren, Haley Shelmadine, Nakaia Coburn, Jeremy Shelmadine, Leslie Brooke Shelmadine and Charleann Ratkowski; 2 sisters, Willodene Saner of Silver Lake and Connie Miller of Springfield, OH; 3 brothers, Ray Shelmadine of Mexico, IN, Richard Shelmadine of Fort Wayne and Ron Shelmadine of Columbia City. In addition to his parents, Ray and Ruth Shelmadine, he was preceded in death by a son, Todd Shelmadine, mother-in-law, May Cable, sisters, Joann, Alice, Fern, and Faye, brother, Max.

Visitation is Sunday, October 31, 2010 from 2-5 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral service is Monday, November 1, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Curtiss Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Nolt cemetery, Columbia City.

TAMARA "TAMMY" MAE GEIGER

Tamara Mae "Tammy" Geiger, 45, of Fort Wayne passed away at 4:30 pm on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at the Hospice Home, Fort Wayne. She was born on January 27, 1965 in Fort Wayne the daughter of George L. and Eva Mae (Simpson) Geiger.

She grew up in rural western Allen County and has spent her lifetime in the Fort Wayne area, graduating from Carroll High School with the Class of 1983. She went on and graduated from beauty college working as a beautician for several Fort Wayne salons.

She is survived by her father, George L. Geiger, Fort Wayne; sister Gail L. Estabrook, Fort Wayne; 2 nephews, Brent Shelton and Brock Estabrook both of Fort Wayne; grandmother, Wilma Simpson, Waynedale; aunt, Linda Simpson, Waynedale, 2 uncles, Roger Geiger, Columbia City and Rex Geiger, Angola. She was preceded in death by her mother, Eva Mae Geiger, December 2009 and her aunt Deena Ebey June 2010.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 28, 2010 from 1-2:30 pm at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, with funeral service following at 2:30 pm with Pastor Scott Pattison officiating. Memorial donation may be given in her memory to the donor's choice.

JOE EUGENE HUFFMAN

Died: Wed Oct 13, 2010

Joe Eugene Huffman, age 84, formerly of South Whitley and currently of Columbia City, passed away at 3:40 p.m., Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at the Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester. Born on September 28, 1926 in North Manchester, he was the son of Grover Cleveland and Myrtle (Shireman) Huffman.

He lived in Akron and South Whitley and in December 1991 moved to Columbia City. For many years the Huffman's have spent their summers at Ponderosa Camp rural North Webster. He graduated from Akron High School with the Class of 1944 and on July 3, 1945, he married Helen Louise Brandenburg in Silver Lake. He served in the United States Army. He owned and operator Huffman Trucking and Hauling, delivering coal, hogs and grain. He then went to work for Leckrone Hardward, Akron and in 1954 he purchased Matson Hardware later becoming Huffman-Deaton Hardware for 31 years until his retirement in 1985. As a retirement job he worked 15 years as a courier for Whitley Manufacturing, South Whitley. He was a member of Cleveland Township Fire Department where he served for 25 years and during that time he was Fire Chief and Secretary, Eel River Masonic Lodge #510 where served as Secretary for 17 years and was Past Worshipful Master, he was a member of South Whitley Church of the Brethren and was the church secretary of the board. Also South Whitley Chamber of Commerce where he served as past president, Lifetime member of South Whitley VFW, South Whitley American Veterans and for 37 years he was a member of American Legion Post #253, North Webster and Post #98 American Legion of Columbia City. He was also a charter member of New Hope Weslyan Church where he joined in 1993-1994. He was an avid fisherman and wood worker.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Louise Huffman of Columbia City; daughter, Carolyn Sue Rozow of North Webster; son, Jay Alan (Susan) Huffman of Columbia City; 7 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

Visitation is 2-6:00 p.m. Sunday, October 17, 2010 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Eel River Masonic Lodge #510 will conduct Twilight Memorial services on Sunday evening at 5:45 at the funeral home. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 18, 2010 at New Hope Wesleyan Church with Pastors Jason Tash and Barry Faucett officiating. Burial will follow at South Whitley cemetery. Memorials may be given in memory of Mr. Huffman's to New Hope Wesleyan Church Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

MARYNELLE GOOD

MaryNelle Good, age 68, of Columbia City, Ind., died at 9:10 p.m. on October 11, 2010 at Select Specialty Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind. Born on April 4, 1942 in Rochester, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Charles D. and Maxine (Smythe) Powers.

Raised in Rochester, Ind., she graduated from Rochester High School with the Class of 1960. She then went on to earn her diploma in radiological technology in Elkhart, Ind., earning her diploma in 1961. On May 21, 1961 she married Dale Good in Rochester. Shortly after her marriage they moved to Wabash, Ind., and since 1972 she has been a resident of Columbia City. A homemaker, wife and mother she was involved with Tri-Lakes Baptist Church where she was a former teacher in AWANA and also played piano.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Dale Good of Columbia City; daughters, Gayle (Scott) Reed of Columbia City and Faye Nemore of South Whitley, Ind.; sister, Charlene Kochanowski of Rochester; brother, Charles (Dottie) Powers of Oklahoma; 4 grandchildren, Shanna Maggard-Franks, Connor, Keaton and Carson Reed all of Columbia City and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 grandchildren, Trista Maggard and Jared Maggard-Nemore; son-in-law, John Nemore and brother-in-law, John Kochanowski.

Visitation with the family will take place on Thursday, October 14, 2010 from 3-6 p.m. with Memorial Service beginning at 6:00 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, Ind. Pastor Bob Siegrist of Believers Bible Fellowship, Churubusco, Ind. will officiate. Burial will follow at a later date at Lakeview cemetery, Larwill, Ind. Memorials in memory of Mrs. Good may be made to the American Diabetes Association; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

MARCIA M. HIMES

Marcia Mabel Himes, age 61, of South Whitley, Ind., died at 12:12 p.m., Saturday, October 9, 2010 at The Waters of Summit City in Fort Wayne, Ind. Born on October 7, 1949 in Huntington, Ind., she was the daughter of H. June and Ruby (Jenkins) Mishler.

She graduated from South Whitley High School with the Class of 1967. On June 20, 1969 she married Lee A. Himes in South Whitley, Ind. She worked for Gripco and Johnson Brothers in South Whitley, but her favorite career was that of homemaker, wife and mother. A resident of South Whitley for the majority of her lifetime, she moved to Fort Wayne in 2003.

She is survived by her son, Travis "TJ" (Amanda) Himes of Columbia City, Ind.; 5 grandchildren, Jaelyn, Jagger, and Ryker Himes of Columbia City and Hannah and Shayla Himes of Pierceton, Ind.; 3 sisters, Monna (Gene) Crawford of Lake City, FL, Marlene (Rob) Mishler and Millie Mishler both of South Whitley; and brother, Milan (Suzy) Mishler of North Manchester, Ind. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lee A. Himes on August 31, 2005; son, Wade S. Himes on January 2, 2009; and brothers, Mick and Manford Mishler.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 from 4p-8p at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City, Ind. Funeral services will be held the following day on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 10:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Jeremy Wike of Community of Hope Church officiating. Burial will follow at South Whitley cemetery, South Whitley, Ind. Memorials in memory of Mrs. Himes can be made to the Alzheimer's Association; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

THOMAS EDWARD SCHINBECKLER, DDS

Thomas Edward Schinbeckler, DDS, age 51, of Carmel, IN passed away at 8:10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at his home. Born on December 17, 1958 in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Keith E. "Pickle" and JoAnne (Witte) Schinbeckler.

He grew up in Columbia City and graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1976. He then attended Indiana University where he received a dual degree in Chemistry and Biology in 1981 and in 1985 he received his Doctorate in Dentistry. He first was the owner of Southern Smiles for 15 years in Hilton Head Island, SC and then moved back to Indiana where he has owned Nora Family Dentistry since January 2002. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, Fort Wayne, ADA, Knights of Columbus-4th Degree, Indiana Dental Association and Indianapolis District Dental Society. He enjoyed cars, racing, legos and puzzles, Jaguars and his 3 children.

Survivors include his 3 children, Sarah A., Christian T. and Rachael L. Schinbeckler all of Carmel; former wife, Amy Schinbeckler, Carmel; brother, H. David Schinbeckler of Mindemoya, Ontario, Canada; aunt, Carole Schinbeckler of Columbia City; cousin, Dr. Gary (Lesley) Schinbeckler of Greenwood; 2 nieces; 5 nephews; special friends, Susie and Laura Lee Stevens of Fishers. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at at 7 p.m. at Robertson Chapel, St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 100 W 86th, Indianapolis, IN with Dr. Carolyn Scanlan officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, Columbia City, IN. Memorials may be given in memory of Dr. Schinbeckler to The Peabody Library, 1160 E SR 205, Columbia City, IN 46725 or The Timmy Foundation, 22 E 22nd Street, Indianapolis, IN, 46202.

LAVERA M. HARSHBARGER

Died: Tue Oct 5, 2010

LaVera M. Harshbarger, age 87, of Fishers, IN and a former Columbia City resident passed away at The Hearth at Windermere, Fishers, at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, October 5, 2010. She was born on November 25, 1922 in Allen County, the daughter of William Roy and Ethel Nora (Smith) Harrison.

LaVera spent her lifetime in Allen and Whitley Counties until moving to be near her daughter in Fishers. She graduated from Jefferson Center High School with the Class of 1941 and on December 31, 1941, she married Lyle D. Harshbarger. She worked several years at the Aboite School Cafeteria and at Gardner's Restaurant. She was a member of the Hope Luthern Church in rural Columbia City and was a former member of the Fort Wayne Eastern Star Lodge.

Survivors include her daughter, Judith Lynn (Wendell) Clifton of Carmel; 1 brother, William (Betty) Harrison of Fort Wayne; 6 grandchildren, Jeff Clifton of Carmel, Leeanne Koeneman of Churubusco, Jennifer Yahne of Carmel, Christy Rundle of Noblesville, Chad and Tara Harshbarger both of Columbia City; 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lyle D. Harshbarger, 2 sons, Douglas L. and Dennis J. Harshbarger, sister, Virginia "Ginnie" DeMoney and brother, James D. Harrison.

Visitation is from noon until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral service will follow immediately at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hope Lutheran cemetery. Memorials may be given in memory of Mrs. Harshbarger to Hope Lutheran Church or Riley Children's Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

BRAYDEN CARLOS SILVESTRE

Brayden Carlos Silvestre, age 5 months, died unexpectedly at 5:44 p.m. on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne, Ind. He was the son of Carlos and Brandy (Platt) Silvestre.

He was born on April 26, 2010 in Fort Wayne, Ind. Survivors include his parents, Carlos and Brandy Silvestre of Columbia City, Ind.; sister, Mia Silvestre of Columbia City; maternal grandparents, Denny and Cindy Platt of Columbia City; paternal grandparents, Carlos and Josefina Silvestre of Puebla, Mexico; aunt, Tiffany (Mike) Haselby and uncles, Brock "Uncle Buck" Platt and Jeremy (Tori) Platt all of Columbia City; aunts Sylvia and Marissa (Alejandro) Silvestre of Puebla, Mexico.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the Columbia City Church of the Nazarene, 506 N. Main Street, Columbia City, Ind. from 9 am - 11 am with service beginning at 11:00 am. Pastor Thomas Beers of the church will officiate. Burial will follow at South Park (Annex) cemetery, Columbia City, Ind. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the family. Envelopes will be available at the church.

Glenn Alvin "Moe" Slusser, age 65, of 213 West Jefferson Street, Albion, IN 46701 died at 1:35 p.m. on Sunday, November 30, 2003 at his daughter's home east of Albion, IN. He was born in Huntington, IN on May 18, 1938 to Carl K. and Nina J. (Erickson) Slusser.

He graduated from Huntington High School with the Class of 1957. He entered the United States Air Force on August 6, 1957 and served as an A2C E-3 (P), being discharged on September 22, 1961. He moved to Laud, Whitley County, IN in 1969 and in 1997 he moved to Albion. He retired from PTG-Echlin, Columbia CIty, IN after 39 years as a foreman/supervisor. He is a member of the Albion American Legion, Post #246, Albion Eagles Lodge #2455 and the Moose Lodge #1063 of Columbia City, IN.

He is survived by 1 son, Mark Allen (Laura) Slusser of 3733 West Noble Street, Wolf Lake, IN; 2 daughters, Trina Renee (Tim) Hewitt, Oak Street, Kendallville, IN and Regina Mae (Chad) Willett of Albion, IN; 2 brothers, Robert E. and Jack S. Slusser both of Huntington, IN; 4 sisters, Melba Duffman of Findley, OH, Erica "Sis" Shipbaugh, Loretta Irene "Lori" Nave and Cleo Pauline "Polly" Jones all of Huntington, IN; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, Rebecca N. "Becky" Ousley.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at the DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at the funeral home with Pastor John Cummings of the Community Bible Church officiating. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Albion American Legion Post #246 at the cemetery Burial will be at the Greenhill cemetery, Columbia City, IN. Memorial bequests may be given in Mr. Slusser's memory to the donor's choice.

ANTHONY D. TREECE

Anthony D. Treece, 82, of Columbia City passed away at 9:40 p.m. Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home, Columbia City, IN. He was born on April 9, 1930 in Huntington, IN, the son of Claude Raymond and Alice (Reed) Treece.

He spent his childhood in Whitley County and graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1954. He first worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad before joining the United States Marine Corps. where he trained at Camp LeJeune and Paris Island.

He is survived by his wife Helen Treece, Columbia City; 2 sons, Alex (Debra) Treece, Elkhart and Greg Treece, South Whitley; 2 daughters, Teresa (Paul) McCoy and Kathy Heinfeld both of Columbia City; 2 sisters, Beverly (Paul) Chappel, Columbia City and Margaret (Elmer) Schrock, Ransom, KS; 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and 2 step sons, Lawrence and Lewis Mauk both of Columbia City. He is preceded in death by 2 brothers, Charles and Roger Treece.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 21, 2012 from 10-11 a.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jeff Harker officiating. Burial will be held at Marion National cemetery, Marion. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Whitley County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard in Columbia City.
