Mary I. Miller
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Mary I. Miller, 95, of Charlotte, N.C., passed away Tuesday, March 15,
2011 in the Harris Hospice Unit at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
Born in Plymouth, Ind. Jan. 1, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Clyde H. and Jenny
(French) Funk. She graduated from Plymouth High School with the class of 1934 and married
Lloyd R. 'Don' Miller, also from Plymouth, Sept. 7, 1935.
Mary was an excellent student, played violin in the school orchestra and as a teenager, helped
as waitress in her parents’ restaurant.
Mary was a member and past Worthy Matron of the Plymouth Eastern Star. She opened Miller’s
Dress Shop in Plymouth in 1958 and operated the business until 1977 when Mary and Don
retired to South Texas. Don died in 2002 after 67 years of marriage.
Mary has lived in the Charlotte area since 2004.
She is survived by her daughters, Janet M. Tennyson of Luray, Va., and Joyce E. Shipman of
Charlotte; and her son, Kent A. (RoseAnne) Miller of South Bend. Also surviving are a sister,
Esther E. Smiley of Terre Haute; and a brother, James H. (Betty) Funk of South Bend.
Mary will be buried beside her husband at Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.

George 'Pee Wee' Childs
PLYMOUTH -- George 'Pee Wee' Childs, 88, of Plymouth, died at 3:16 a.m., Friday, March 18,
2011, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
He is survived by his wife, Priscilla; sons, John (Susan) Childs of Plymouth and Bill (Patricia)
Childs of Kankakee, Ill.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his sister, Helen Zerkel
of Kankakee.
A graveside service will take place at 1 p.m. (CST) Friday, March 25, at the Lacon cemetery in
Lacon, Ill., with full military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Honor Flight of Chicago, 938 W. Montana Street,
Chicago, IL, 60614.
Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, are assisting local arrangements.

William 'Bill' Wheat
PLYMOUTH -- William 'Bill' Wheat, 62, died at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011 in Plymouth
from natural causes, at his residence.
He is survived by his wife Shelly; sons: Steve (Lisa) Wheat, Terry Wheat, Jerry (Robin) Wheat,
and Keith (Heather) Nickerson and Joseph Wheat; daughters Tabitha (Charlie) Nickerson and
Jennifer (Bryan Weaver) Wheat; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, all of Plymouth.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 22 at Johnson-Danielson Funeral
Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. Funeral services will take place at 7 p.m. at the funeral
home. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 23 at New Oakhill cemetery, with
military graveside services. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Millie Elnora Castle
WALKERTON -- Millie Elnora Castle, 106, of Walkerton and South Bend, passed away Sunday,
March 20, 2011.
Millie was born July 13, 1904 to Frank and Cakrintha (Jackson) Coil in Johnson Township
(LaPorte County) Indiana. Nov. 2, 1942 she married Chester B. Castle in Washington, Ind.
He preceded her in death Dec. 2, 1972. They had no children. Mrs. Castle was retired from
Notre Dame. She was a member of OES Chapter #50 and the Indiana Retired Teachers
Association. Millie often told the story of a medicine man on horseback telling her and her
mother that she would live to be 107 years old. Mrs. Castle lived on her own until age 99 and
remained in good health until last week. She passed away Sunday morning at the age of 106,
just a few months shy of her 107th birthday.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 11 a.m. (ET) in the Nusbaum-Elkin
Funeral Home, 408 Roosevelt Road (Hwy. 6) Walkerton, with Pastor Charlene Harris Allen
officiating.
Burial will follow in Woodlawn cemetery in Walkerton.
There will be a visitation Tuesday, March 22, 2011 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Leona M. Gridley
PLYMOUTH -- Leona M. Gridley, 91, of Plymouth, died March 20, 2011 at her residence.
She is survived by a son, Glenn Harley (Geri Liesberger) Gridley, Plymouth; and a sister, Hazel
Heiser of Florida.
Visitation will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan
St., Plymouth.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 26 at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society, P.O. Box #22, Plymouth, IN,
46563.

Jon A. Lipply
PLYMOUTH -- Jon A. Lipply, 64, of Plymouth, died at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2011, at
Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis where he had been a patient since
Wednesday.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; a daughter, Shelly (Kip) Diemer of Nappanee; stepsons, Shawn
Chain of Bloomington, Eric (Shay) Chain of Clarksville, Tenn.; a grandson; four
stepgrandchildren; a stepgreat-grandson; sisters, Lynda (Larry) Meadows of Wimauma, Fla.,
and Jean (Jack) Briggs of Pueblo, Colo.; brothers, Dave (Deb) Hollar of Syracuse, and Bugs
(Donna) Hollar of Milford.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 Wednesday, March 23 at Thompson-Lengacher &
Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 24, at the funeral home. Burial will
follow in South Union cemetery with military graveside services. Memorial contributions may be
made to the Nappanee American Legion.

Sandra Lou Mort
BREMEN -- Sandra Lou Mort, 70, of Bremen, died Sunday, March 20, 2011.
She is survived by daughters, Pamela Sue Akemon (Cris Carl) of Greenfield, Ma., and Barbara
Lynne (Israel) Demeulenaere of South Bend; and a granddaughter.
Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 24, in the Bremen Pancake House,
1223 W. Plymouth St., Bremen.
Palmer Funeral Home, 314 S. Michigan St. Lakeville, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marshall County Humane Society, 11165 13th Road,
Plymouth, IN. 46563.

Douglas Jay 'Smooth' Carter
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Douglas Jay 'Smooth' Carter passed away Monday March 21, 2011.
He was born in Plymouth, Ind. Nov. 18, 1957. Doug lived in New Orleans, La. And later settled in
St. Petersburg, Fla. Where he has lived for 25 years. He was a job site foreman for West Tampa
Glass for 15 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Fern Estelle (Keyser) Carter.
Doug is survived by his sisters, Patricia Himes, South Bend and Teresa (Craig) Mattke,
Plymouth; his brothers, Timothy (Christine) Carter, Lynchburg, Va., Steven Carter, Plymouth,
and Edward Carter, St. Petersburg; his 'second' mother, Sharon Carter, Rochester; other
sisters, Teri McCormick, Pam Praphafphakis, Patti Zrubek and Tina Baloy; four nieces; eight
nephews; and 20 great-nieces and nephews.
Doug’s family would like to thank his most cherished friends, Scott and Gina, Jon and Sharon,
Bobbie and Ron, Rick and Cathy, Bill and Theresa, and his riding buddy, Curly and also, his
caring neighbors and his other families, the West Central Florida Harley Biking Community, Biff
Burger, Big Shot, and everyone at West Tampa Glass.
To the friends he valued his entire life: Kirk Kuskye, Kent Thornburg, Charlie Driebelbis, David
'Charger' Hollingsworth, Butch Gibson, and Herbie Eads: Doug never told a story without one of
you in it!
Doug’s greatest love was his dog Harley Carter and his cat Casper Carter. His very last words
were 'please take care of my babies.'
We promise you brother, we will.
So go now. Be free. Feel the wind on your face and rest in peace.
Services will be held Wednesday, March 30 at 1 p.m. at the House of Prayer at 12450 Plymouth Goshen
Trail in Plymouth, with Pastor R.D. Humphrey officiating.
Interment at New Oakhill cemetery will follow immediately after the service.
Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, IN, 46563, is assisting the family with
arrangements.

Katherine C. Minix
NORTH JUDSON -- Katherine C. Minix, 46, died Monday, March 21, 2011 in I.U. Health Starke
Hospital, Knox.
She is survived by her husband Mark Minix; daughter, Katie Minix of North Judson; mother, Mary
(Dean Miller) Reynolds of Knox; father, Eugene Farler of North Judson and one brother, Eugene
(Diana) Farler of Rochester.
There will be no services or visitation.
Cremation will take place.
Rannell's Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel is handling arrangements.

Stella L. Curtis
TIPPECANOE -- Stella L. Curtis, 67, of Tippecanoe, died at 4:52 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011
at Hickory Creek Nursing Home, Rochester, following a lengthy illness.
She was born Sept. 29, 1943 in Hasting, Minn., to Lee and Edna (Tanney) Glasby. She lived in
the Argos community for the last 35 years coming from Gary, Ind. And was a homemaker.
She married Robert Roy Curtis. He preceded her in death Dec. 10, 1987.
Stella is survived by sons, Robert (Teresa) Curtis Jr. of Nappanee and David Lee Curtis of
Bourbon; four grandchildren; six sisters: Suzie Riley, Lucy Balster, Vicky Dahlstron, Sylvia
Glasby, Gloria Burr, and Lorane Osmera; and two brothers, Henry Glasby and Paul Glasby.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five bothers and three sisters.
Friends may visit with the family Friday, March 25 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Earl-Grossman Funeral
Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos.
Services will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 26 at the funeral home with Rev. Rob Mace
of the First Baptist Church of Argos officiating.
Burial will follow at Maple Grove cemetery, Argos.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 30 N. Michigan
Ave., Suite 2015, Chicago, IL, 60602.
Arrangements have been entrusted with the Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, Argos.

Roy W. Glentzer
ROCHESTER -- Roy W. Glentzer, 91, of Rochester, died Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Life Care
Center of Rochester.
He is survived by a daughter, Tracy S. Lewis of Rochester; son, David Glentzer of Lacoochee,
Fla.; and stepdaughters, Patricia Quier of Rochester and Kitty (Jim) Kesler of Rochester.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 25 and one hour prior to services
Saturday, at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St. Rochester.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 26 at the funeral home. Burial will
follow in Athens Hoover cemetery Athens, Ind., with military graveside rites.

Beverly J. Goebel
LAKEVILLE -- Beverly J. Goebel, 82, of Lakeville, died at 2 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at
Pilgrim Manor, Plymouth.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna (John) Laureys of New Carlisle; son, David (Susan)
Goebel of Plymouth; and a brother, Ron Goss of Mich.
Visitation will take place one hour prior to services Saturday, March 26 at Palmer Funeral Home,
314 S. Michigan St. Lakeville.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Private burial will take
place at St. Paul’s Lutheran cemetery, Woodland.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 6415 Castleway
Drive W. Suite #114, Indianapolis, IN, 46250.

Clarence D. Sellers
CULVER -- Clarence D. Sellers, 77, of Culver, formerly of Knox, died Wednesday, March 23,
2011 at Sun City, Ariz.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; sons: David Sellers of Culver, Daniel (Sherri) Sellers of
Kouts, and Dean (Brenda) Sellers of Bristol; brother, Robert 'Bud' Sellers of Plymouth; sister,
Darlene (Richard) Decker of Valparaiso; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 30 at Odom Funeral Home, Culver.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 31 at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Culver Masonic cemetery, Culver.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Valley, Peoria, Ariz.
