JEROME L. PEITZ

Jerome L. Peitz, 83, Liberal, died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

He was born May 9, 1920, to Martin F. and Anna (Seiler) Peitz in Colwich.

He married Eleanor Marie Pfannenstiel Sept. 23, 1941, in Garden City. She died Oct. 29, 1985.

He attended school in Colwich and Garden City. He had worked as a mechanic in a sugar beet factory in Garden City, before moving to Liberal in 1959.

He worked as a mechanic and shop manager at the Chrysler dealership in Liberal for 25 years, retiring in 1984.

He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal.

Survivors include two sons, Ernest Peitz and wife, Shannon, Liberal, and Steve Peitz, Plainview, Texas; six daughters, Mary Ann Peitz, Liberal, Geraldine Norton and husband, Jim, Moore, Okla., Cathy Morlen and husband, Sam, and Patricia Reifschneider and husband, Philip, all of Longview, Texas, Janet Ledford and husband, Galer, Orlando, Fla., and Anita Mitchell and husband, Harlin, Liberal; one brother, Cecil Peitz, Wichita; one sister, Bernadine Rohar, Stafford; 19 grandchildren, Brian Peitz, Becky Culwell, Alysan and Jessica Reifschneider, Leslie Patrick, April McCarty, Martha and Tony Ledford, Jennifer Cowart, Keith and Dawn Norton, Eric and Cody Peitz, Meredith Rene Peitz, Joy Jansen, Tallon Mitchell and Christina Abel, and Chris and Michael Morlen; 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Leroy, his wife, Bonnie, and son Chris; five brothers; and one sister.

Welcoming of the body will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal.

Rosary and Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church with the Father Patrick Keyes presiding.

Burial will be at Liberal Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, and from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Miller Mortuary in Liberal, and from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church.

The family suggests memorials to St. Anthony Catholic Church Building Fund or to the Alzheimer Association in care of Miller Mortuary, 908 N. Lincoln Ave., Liberal, KS 67901.

J.B. ATER

HOUSTON ญญ J.B. Ater, 39, died Thursday, May 8, 2003, in Houston, Texas.

He was born Dec. 17, 1963, to Jack Ater Sr. and the late Mary Arlene Ater in Liberal.

He graduated in 1983 from Ulysses High School.

Survivors include his father, Liberal; five sisters, Rene Fry, and Kim Ford, both of Ulysses, Christy Taylor, Amarillo, Texas, Denny Eslick, Lakin, and Debby Ater, Wichita; and grandmother, Wilma Ater, Liberal.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Funeral services were not released.

Lucile M. Grandstaff

Lucile Marian Grandstaff, 92, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

She was born October 24, 1910, to Dr. Ord K. and Florence (West) Pearce in Moscow.

She married Virgil Grandstaff Jan. 13, 1934 in Moscow. He died Oct. 31, 1999.

She was a graduate of Moscow High School. She attended Bethany College in Lindsborg, where she majored in voice, piano and violin. She sang in the Bethany College Choir and performed in the "Mesiah" in 1929 and 1930. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Liberal and a member of the Soroptomist Club and Mother Singers.

She is survived by one son, Stephen Grandstaff, Rockdale, Texas; two daughters, Sandra Hogan, Liberal, and Ronnell Dickson and husband, Ron, of Liberal; 11 grandchildren, Kelly Hogan, Stephanie Groth, Barry Dickson, Julie Dickson, Doug Dickson, Brian Dickson, Andrea Johnston, Kristi Huntzinger, Garry Grandstaff, Joshua Grandstaff and Evan Grandstaff; and 8 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Keith Pearce; one sister, Doris Anderson; and one grandson, Scott Hogan.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal with the Rev. Ken Hathaway presiding.

Burial will follow at the Liberal Cemetary.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association in care of Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd Liberal, KS 67901.

Sydney J. Hampton

ULYSSES ญญ Sydney J. Hampton, 42, died Sunday, May 11, 2003, in Henderson, Texas.

He was born January 31, 1961, to Asa and Phyllis (Main) Hampton in Ulysses.

He was a former resident of Ulysses.

He worked as a cementer in the oil field industry.

Survivors include, his parents of Henderson, Texas; two daughters, Krista Renee Morris and husband Daniel, Clarksville, Tenn., Haley Ellen Hampton, Wichita Falls, Texas; one sister, Shelly Brown and husband Robert, Ulysess; grandmother, Cleta Main, Jasper, Texas; aunts, Lela and Glen Bouton, both of Fairbanks, Alaska; Teresa Hampton, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses with the Rev. Bill Harold presiding.

Burial will follow at Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses.

Garnand Funeral Home of Ulysses is in charge of arrangements.

Jessie Faye (Swink) Harris

HUGOTON ญญ Jessie Faye (Swink) Harris, 80, died Monday, May 12, 2003, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hugoton, Kansas.

She was born September 13, 1922, to Frank and Ida (Burchard) Swink in Seward County.

She married Merle Harris Oct. 1, 1950 in Hugoton. He died June 4, 1962.

She was a lifelong resident of Hugoton since 1924, when her family moved from the Swink homestead in Seward County. She and her husband owned and operated the Rusada Movie Theatre in Hugoton until her husband's death. She was employed by Republic Gas Company & Barnes Implement and the City of Hugoton where she worked as a bookkeeper/secretary.

Her hobbies included knitting, needle-point, crocheting, and flower gardening.

She was a member of Hugoton United Methodist Church in Hugoton. She was a past member of The Order of the Eastern Star and The Professional Business Woman's Association.

Survivors include one step-son, Richard (Dick) Harris, Rolla; four nephews, Frank Clark, Davenport, Iowa, Kent Yarbrough, Livermore, Calif., Jay Swink, Long Beach, Calif., and Phil Swink, Leland, Mich.; two nieces, Betty Barrows, Hugoton, and Mindy Swayne, Kansas City, Mo.; three great nephews, Ted Barrows, Fort Collins, Colo., Larry Barrows, Liberal, and Steve Barrows, Keller, Texas; two great-nieces, Kim Miller, Hugoton, and Deana Higgins, Hugoton; one great-grandson, Link Hampton, Bartlesville, Okla.; and numerous great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and close relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Ruth Yarbrough and Wilma Brown-Clark; and two brothers, Neil and Guy Swink.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hugoton United Methodist Church in Hugoton with the Rev. Donald J. Koehn presiding.

Burial will be at the Hugoton Cemetary.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials may be sent to the United Methodist Church, Stevens County Home Health Dept. or The Pioneer Manor Nursing Home all in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 423 S. Main, Hugoton, KS 67951.

DOLORES (SLACK) SAITER

Dolores (Slack) Saiter, 79, died Friday May 9, 2003, at her home in Liberal.

She was born March 12, 1924, to William and Gladys Graham Slack in Martins Ferry, Ohio.

She married Elwyn H. Saiter July 29, 1951 in Belmont County, Ohio. He died Jan. 18, 2000.

She graduated from Martins Ferry High School in 1942. She lived in Bloomingdale, Ohio on her family beef farm most of her life. She was employed by Consolidtaed Telephone Company as a switchboard operator during the 1940s and 1950s. She bred, raised and showed American Border Collies for over thirty years. She moved to Liberal in 2002 where she continued working with dogs.

She was a member of the Hopewell Grange, Jefferson County Farm Bureau, a 4-H Advisor, east Springfield Fire Department Auxillary and the American Border Collie Association.

Survivors include three sons, Elwyn Saiter and wife, Judy, Smithfield, Ohio, Bill Saiter, Liberal, and Max Saiter, Mojave, Calif.; two daughters, Denise Saiter, Bloomingdale, Ohio, and Judy Adamson, LaPine. Ore.; four grandchildren, Jason Saiter and wife, Angie, Erin Best and husband Brian, Andrew Saiter and wife Heather, and Emilee Saiter.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

A memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Meadowbrook Church of God in Dillonville, Ohio with the Rev. Marvin Schooler presiding.

Inurnment will follow in the Hopewell Cemetery in Hopewell, Ohio.

An additional memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Miller Chapel in Liberal with the Rev. David Parker presiding.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Meadowbrook Church of God in Dillonville, Ohio .

Memorials are suggested to be sent to the Southwest Medical Center, Dolores Saiter Memorial, for an ice machine for the Cancer Ward or they many be left at Miller Mortuary, P.O. Box 826, Liberal, KS, 67901.

CLINE H. CLODFELTER

Cline H. Clodfelter, age 87, died Friday, May 16, 2003 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

He was born Jan. 10, 1916, in Seward County, the son of Ivan R. and Katie E. (Martin) Clodfelter.

He was a 1935 Liberal High School graduate.

He married Dollie Marie Shafford Oct. 19, 1935, in Dumas, Texas. She died Oct. 3, 2000.

He lived most of his life in the Liberal area. He did spend about 10 years in Texas living at different Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Stations.

He had worked as an engineer, assistant superintendent and superintendent at various Panhandle Eastern Pipeline stations in Kansas and Texas for 42 years, from 1937 until his retirement in 1979.

He was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Panhandle Eastern Retirees.

He served the local area in many educational and community board capacities.

Survivors include two sons, Dannie Clodfelter, and wife, Kay, of Meade, and Boyd Clodfelter and wife, Donna, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one brother, J. R. Clodfelter of Tucson, Ariz.; one sister, KatyLou Brant of Haysville; four grandchildren, Denise Beutler, Mark Clodfelter, Lance Clodfelter, and Brooke Clodfelter; six great-grandchildren, Bridget, Adam, and Kaylee Beutler, Joshua and Spencer Clodfelter, and Jaiden Clodfelter.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Wayne, an infant brother, Ralph; and two sisters, Reva Casebeer and Bonita Leaming.

Funeral Services will be at 10 am Wednesday at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Liberal, with Rev. Jerry Odle presiding. Burial will follow at the Restlawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Kitch - Brenneman Funeral Home.

Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church in care of Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. Second, Liberal, KS 67901.
