Barbara Ruth Burt
Barbara Ruth Burt, 66, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City.
She was born Oct. 27, 1933, in the Hardy and Superior Neb. area, the daughter of Morgan and Ruth (VanOrnam) Powell.
She grew up in Wyoming and later moved to and graduated from high school in Delta, Colo. After high school, she lived various places in Colorado, and Kansas before moving to Garden City in 1990.
She was a case manager at the Community Support Services and the Garden City Mental Health. Burt had dedicated her life to the treatment of the mentally ill. She enjoyed her family, bowling, fishing, traveling and camping.
Burt was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Garden City.
She married Norman J. Burt on Aug. 30, 1972, in Aztec, New Mexico. He survives.
Other survivors include: One son, Michael J. Burt of the home; two daughters, Michelle Hover, Lubbock, Texas and; Heidi McLaughlin, Oakland Calf.; one step-son, Clifton R. Burt, San Antonio, Texas; one step-daughter, Sharon L. Bose, San Antonio; two brothers, Dr. Kent Powell, San Clemente, Calf. and David Powell, San Luis Obispo, Calf.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Garden City, the Rev. Larry Steadman officiating.
A private burial will take place at a later date in Pagosa Springs, Colo.
Memorials are suggested to the Community Support Services for the mentally ill in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
Donna Rae Davis
ESSEX IOWA - Donna Rae Davis, 69, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Neb.
She was born Sept. 28, 1931, in Fremont County, Iowa, the daughter of Leroy and Ethel Marie (Mead) Reed. She spent her early years on a farm in Fremont County before moving to Shenandoah, Iowa in 1946. There she attend school, graduating with the Shenandoah High School class of 1949.
On March 5, 1950, she was united in marriage to Charles W. Davis at Shenandoah. He proceeds her in death.
During their marriage, the Davis' lived in Nebraska, Colorado, New Mexico, Missouri and Kansas, including 18 years in Garden City where Charles Davis managed the local J.C. Penny's store.
Davis is preceded in death by her parents as well.
Survivors include: Two sons, C. Kurt Davis and his wife Stephanie, Neodesha, and Michael W. Davis and his wife Judy, Rolla; a sister, Doris Bright, Shenandoah, Iowa; one brother, Lee Reed, Sidney, Iowa; three grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and a niece.
Memorial services were at 2 p.m. Friday at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah, Iowa. The Rev. Nancy Shank officiated.
Beulah Diehl
Beulah Diehl, 88, died Friday, Oct 13, 2000, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born March 30, 1912, at Gillham Ark., the daughter of John and Lula (Dudley) Coffey. She lived in Gillham, Ark. until she was 10 years old. She then lived in Blanchard, Okla., Washington, Okla., and Purcell, Okla,. before moving to Jetmore 1945.
She married Edgar M. "ED" Diehl on Jan. 4, 1930, at Purcell, Okla. He precedes her in death. Together they moved to the family farm in Northeast Finney County in 1949 and then into Garden City 1969. She enjoyed reading, her church work and volunteering in many area.
Diehl was a member of the First Southern Baptist Churchm Willing Workers Sunday School class and Sunflower EHU.
She is proceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother as well.
Survivors include: Two sons, John Howard Diehl, Garden City, and Edwin Leon Diehl, Linton, Ind.; one sister, Jean Spangler, Visalia, Calf.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Southern Baptist Church, the Rev. Randy Caddell officiating.
Burial will be in the Valley View Cemetery, Garden CIty.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home.
Memorial are suggested to the First Southern Baptist Church, Garden City, in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
Frank Allen Trotman
ULYSSES - Frank Allen Trotman, 66, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital, Ulysses.
He was born July 9, 1934, at Wellington, the son of Anderson Davis and Esther Leah (Kitterman) Trotman. He was a resident of Ulysses since 1968, formerly of Garden City. He graduated from Wellington High School in 1953 and Pittsburg State University in 1961. He served in the U.S. Navy on board the USS Kearsarge from 1953 to 1957.
He taught school in Kingman and Garden City. He was the editor of the Ulysses News, news director of KULY Radio in Ulysses and executive director of the Southwest Kansas Irrigation Association, before retiring to drive school and activity buses for USD 214 in 1996.
He served on Gov. Robert Bennett's Water Task Force in 1982, was chairman of the Cimarron Ground Water Advisory Committee, member of the Santa Fe Trail Association-Wagon Bed Springs Chapter, Shelton Memorial Christian Church of Ulysses, American Legion Charles B. Hart Post No. 79, an avid photographer, reader and writer. He wrote under the disguised name of Alexi Conweaver, who goes with him to his grave.
On July 19, 1955, he married Barbara (Segebartt) Trotman, at Wellington. She survives.
Other survivors include: Three sons, Mark Allen Trotman of Hutchinson, Geoffrey (Jeff) Neal Trotman of Ulysses, and Phillip Wayne Trotman of Webster, Fla.; one daughter, Mona Jeannie Giesaking of Ulysses; one sister, Janet Cubbage of Wellington; 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at 10:30 a.m. at the Shelton Memorial Christian Church, Ulysses, with Rev. Bill Harrold presiding. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery
with graveside military rites.

Eleanor E. Sukup
SCOTT CITY - Eleanor E. Sukup, 87, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.
She was born Nov. 2, 1912, in Auroraville, Wisc., the daughter of Paul and Bertha Reeck Krause.
In 1934, she married Elmer Brey in Wisconsin and later married John Sukup in Washington D.C. Both husbands preceded her in death.
Mrs. Sukup was a farm wife for many years and later worked at Gimbels Department Store in Milwaukee until retirement. She then moved to Scott City in 1987 where she was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two sons, Gordon Brey, Scott City, and Arden L. Brey, Atlanta; a sister, Dora Rodencal, Auroraville, Wisc.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, a sister and a grandson.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Auroraville, Wisc., with internment following at Pine Grove Cemetery.
Karen K. Mullen
Karen K. Mullen, 49, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at Garden Valley Retirement Village after a lengthy illness.
Since 1968, she had worked as an insurance representative with her husband, Bud Mullen, at the Bud Mullen Insurance Agency in Garden City.
Mrs. Mullen was born Oct. 29, 1950, in Fairview, Okla., the daughter of Leahn and Eloise Hart Westfall. She graduated from Eastern New Mexico University in 1971 with a bachelor's degree in business education.
She married Bud Mullen in Artesia, N.M., and the couple moved to Garden City from Salina in 1978. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Garden City.
Mrs. Mullen is survived by her husband, two daughters, Vanessa Mullen and Shasta Mullen, both of Overland Park; a son, Chance, of the home; her parents, Leahn and Eloise Westfall, Nicoma Park, Okla.; and brothers Darrell Westfall, Omaha, Neb., and Brad Westfall, Claremore, Okla.
Calling hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Price and Sons Funeral Home, Garden City. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the First Southern Baptist Church, Garden City. Internment will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Carney Cemetery, Carney, Okla.
