Martha R. Nodine

ULYSSES - Funeral for Martha R. Nodine, 84, of Ulysses, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shelton Memorial Christian Church, Ulysses, with Dr. Max Clayton officiating. Burial will follow in Ulysses Cemetery.

Mrs. Nodine died Friday, June 21, 2002, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses.

She was born April 16, 1918, in Kiowa County, Colo., the daughter of Oscar T. and Mary Frances Burk Hainer.

A Ulysses resident since 1952, she was a homemaker and enjoyed horse racing, bingo and playing cards with friends. She attended Shelton Memorial Christian Church.

On Jan. 2, 1937, she married Clyde Eugene Nodine at Las Animas, Colo. He died June 25, 1987. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Elaine Monson; two brothers; a sister; and two infant siblings.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Jane Young, Ulysses; a son, Loren D. Nodine, Denver; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Garnand Funeral Home, Ulysses. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or Shelton Memorial Christian Church Scholarship Fund, both in care of the funeral home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses, KS 67880.

Mary E. Schmied Hendrickson

DIGHTON - Mary E. Schmied Hendrickson, 94, died Sunday, June 23, 2002, at Lane County Long Term Care Unit in Dighton.

She was born Feb. 21, 1908, at Clinton, Mo., the daughter of Harry C. and Anna E. Wright Good. She grew up in Belton, Mo., where she graduated from high school.

On June 8, 1929, she married Willie Schmied at Kansas City, Mo. The moved to Lane County in 1929 and worked together on a farm they owned in Shields for 51 years. He died Sept. 18, 1980.

On July 8, 1985, she married Ervin Hendrickson at Dighton. They moved to Scott City and lived there for 12 years. After his death on Nov. 13, 1997, she returned to Dighton.

A homemaker, her special interests included crocheting, cooking for family and friends, gardening, and spending time with her family. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Dighton.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews including Joanne Selfridge, Stanley Fullmer and Lamar Fullmer, all of Dighton, and Joyce Schmitt of Scott City. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Ann; three brothers, Jim, John and Frank Good; a sister, Virginia Fuller; and her parents.

Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Dighton, with the Rev. Lennie Maxwell officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Tuesday at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home, Box 891, Dighton, KS 67839.

Josephine Jones

DIGHTON - Funeral for Josephine Jones, 87, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Bushton, with the Rev. David Trott officiating. Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday in Dighton Memorial Cemetery, with the Rev. Lennie Maxwell officiating.

Mrs. Jones died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at the Kansas Masonic Home in Wichita.

She was born Oct. 28, 1914, in Lane County, the daughter of Cromwell D. and Pearl I. Dickenson Finkenbinder.

A lifetime resident of Lane County before moving to Wichita in 1998, she worked as a bookkeeper at Farmer's Oil Co. for 23 years. She also helped serve many Rotary dinners for a number of years in Dighton. Her special interests included playing bingo, working puzzles, traveling and spending time with her family. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star No. 241 and American Legion Auxiliary, all at Dighton.

On May 6, 1940, she married Clem Jones at Dodge City. He died Jan. 10, 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Shirley Taylor; two brothers; and two sisters.

She is survived by a son, Lyle Jones, Wichita; a daughter, Connie Van Pelt, Bushton; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton. Memorials are suggested to the Dighton Rotary Club, in care of the funeral home, Box 891, Dighton, KS 67839.

Elton Lawrence Kuhlman

Elton Lawrence Kuhlman, 88, of Great Bend, died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus, Great Bend.

He was born May 29, 1914, at Lydia, the son of August and Clara Preusch Kuhlman.

A Great Bend resident for 60 years, moving from Wichita, he was an insurance and securities agent. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Great Bend Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 15, Scottish Rite of Southern Jurisdiction of Valley of Salina and the Golden Belt Country Club, and was a member and past president of the Great Bend Lions Club.

On July 14, 1935, he married Mary Esther Whitaker at Garden City. She survives. He is also survived by three sons, Keith Kuhlman of Wichita and his wife Carol, Ken Kuhlman of Stevensville, Mich. and his wife Judy, and Jim Kuhlman of Great Bend; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, Great Bend, with the Rev. Hal Staats officiating. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home, 1425 Patton Road, Great Bend, KS 67530.

Curtis W. Koehn

MONTEZUMA - Curtis W. Koehn, 78, died Sunday, June 23, 2002, at his home in Montezuma.

He was born June 25, 1923, at Montezuma, the son of William B. and Kathryn Schmidt Koehn, and grew up in the Montezuma area.

On Oct. 31, 1943, he married Juanita Koehn at Montezuma. They lived in the Montezuma area until moving to Greensburg in 1949. In 1966, they moved to Cimarron where they lived until returning to Montezuma in 1997.

Mr. Koehn was a custom farmer and belonged to Church Of God In Christ Mennonite, Cimarron.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Eldon and John Koehn, both of Cimarron, Dennis Koehn, Lakin, and Bill Koehn, Texline, Texas; six daughters, Wilma Unruh, Canton, Marlene Koehn, Montezuma, Vera Koehn and Mary Ensz, both of Cimarron, Doris Sundberg, Karlsruhe, N.D., and Ruby Boese, Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada; a brother, Jake W. Koehn, Murray, Ky.; three sisters, Ruth Kehn, Montezuma, Carrie Penner, Cartwright, Manitoba, Canada, and Fern Ensz, Phoenix; 39 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William Koehn Jr. and Allen Koehn; two sisters, Evelyn Koehn and Lena Jantzen; and six grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Cimarron Mennonite Church. Wilbur Koehn, Vernon Giesbrecht and Curt Ensz, ministers, will officiate. Burial will be in Cimarron Cemetery.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight and from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Montezuma Funeral Home and from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Cimarron Mennonite Church. Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home Inc. or Hospice of the Prairie at Dodge City, both in care of the funeral home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.

Leroy Levi Snodgrass

Memorial service for Leroy Levi Snodgrass, 71, of Duncan, Okla., will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel, Duncan. The family will meet at the home of Robin and Jimmy Rochell, 915 N. 60th, in Duncan.

Mr. Snodgrass died Monday, June 24, 2002, after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Garden City on April 22, 1931. He spent four years serving his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. After leaving the Air Force, he moved to the Texas Panhandle where he met and married his wife of 45 years.

Mr. Snodgrass worked for Skelly Oil Co. and Russell Electric. In 1975, his family moved to Duncan where he spent the next 18 years working in Velma, Okla., for Skelly Oil Co., Getty Oil Co. and Texaco Oil Co., retiring from Texaco in 1993.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his mother, a brother and two sisters, all of Kansas; four daughters, Robin Rochell and Beatrice Rochell, both of Duncan, Laura Kennedy, Comanche, Okla., and Marla Sleeker, Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren; and five great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorials are suggested to the New Hope Baptist Church West Building Fund, 5450 W. Beech, Duncan, OK 73533.

David Wayne Heronemus

DIGHTON - Funeral for David Wayne Heronemus, 33, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Dighton, with the Rev. Lennie Maxwell officiating. Graveside service is planned for later in Garden of Prophets Cemetery, Arlington.

Mr. Heronemus died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at his home in Dighton.

He was born Aug. 5, 1967, at Ness City, the son of Harold E. and Mary E. Honea Heronemus. He grew up in Dighton and attended schools there. The family moved to Arlington, Texas, in 1987. They returned to Dighton in 1992.

Mr. Heronemus was a grocery stocker for various grocery stores for a number of years. His special interests included listening to music, collecting model toy cars, working on his computer, and helping his neighbors when needed. He was a member of Arlington Baptist Temple.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Harold and Deloris Heronemus, Dighton; a brother, Gary, Garland, Texas; and six nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and a sister, Shirley Alderson.

Visitation hours are until 8 tonight at Boomhower Funeral Home, Dighton. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home, Box 891, Dighton, KS 67839.

Mike Doris

DIGHTON - Mike Doris, 36, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at his home in Sterling, Colo.

He was born July 24, 1965, at Scott City, the son of Jim and Kathleen Barnett Doris. He lived in Dighton where he attended school through the third grade before the family moved to Nebraska. In 1984, he graduated from Republican Valley High School in Red Willow County, Neb., where he was a member of the state champion football team and a three-time state qualifier in wrestling.

Mr. Doris returned to Dighton and worked for DKS Dozing. In 1993, he moved to Sterling. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Sterling, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and babysitting his nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Jim and Shirley Doris, Sterling; a brother, Larry Doris, Sterling; a sister, Kerrie Horsfall, Dighton; a stepbrother, Bobby Sculley, Evans, Colo.; and a stepsister, Ellen Sculley, Sterling. He was preceded in death by his mother.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church, Dighton, with the Rev. Lennie Maxwell officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Sterling Regional Medical Center, in care of Boomhower Funeral Home, Box 891, Dighton, KS 67839.
