Eva Frances Wiggins, Olathe

1918 - 2005

Ottawa — Services for Eva Frances Wiggins, 86, Olathe, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at First Assembly of God Church in Ottawa.

Mrs. Wiggins died Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Aberdeen Village in Olathe.

She was born icon May 27, 1918, in El Dorado, the daughter of Carl and Minnie Ore Coltrane. She graduated from Wellsville High School in 1936. She attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia and business school in Kansas City. She lived in Washington, D.C., from 1941 to 1944, before moving to Ottawa.

Mrs. Wiggins worked for the Department of the Navy in Washington, D.C., and taught school in the Miami County School District and Ottawa. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for many years. She served in Women's Ministries, Aglow Fellowship, Christian Women's Club and volunteered for Bible Light International.

She married icon Russell Wiggins on Dec. 4, 1942, in Ottawa.

Survivors include two sons, Russell Wiggins, Lawrence, and Wayne Wiggins, Overland Park; two daughters, Marilyn Sigmund, Olathe, and Carolyn Treadway, Faribault, Minn.; a sister, Dorothy Bushfield, Prairie Village; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Betty, died earlier.

Friends may call after noon Sunday at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Ottawa, where the family will receive them from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The family suggests memorials to Sunflower Plaza, sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 14, Ottawa 66067.

Gary B. Reid, Kingman

1959 - 2005

Kingman — Services for Gary B. Reid, 46, Kingman, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kingman. Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Kingman.

Mr. Reid died Monday, April 11, 2005, at his home.

He was born icon Jan. 18, 1959, in Kingman, the son of Gary and Bernadette Landwehr Reid. He was a longtime resident of Kingman.

Mr. Reid owned Reid Lawn Care and attended St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kingman.

Survivors include his parents, Lawrence; three daughters, Amie Swingle, Kingman, Tami Reid, Ellsworth, and Jessica Reaunte, Lawrence; a brother, Bruce Reid, Iola; three sisters, Kathy Smith, Kingman, Brenda Washee, Lawrence, and Julie Chalabi, Lenexa; and three grandchildren.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today with a parish rosary at 7 p.m. at Livingston Funeral Home in Kingman.

The family suggests memorials to the St. Patrick Grade School, sent in care of the funeral home, 1830 N. Main St., Kingman 67068.

ALEXANDER - Gwendolyn Bosley-Alexander died peacefully while surrounded by her family on December 3, 2010. Loving wife of Bill Alexander; beloved mother of Jim (Louise) Bosley of Paola, Kansas; Lyn (Bob) Feuerbacher of Weldon Spring, Missouri, and Kim (Bill) Schlecht of San Antonio, Texas; loving grandmother of Meredith Bosley, Brent (Megan) Bosley, Kris Feuerbacher, Laura (Ryan) Guffey, Katie Moreno, and Ryan Schlecht; dear sister and friend to many. She touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Sharon Elaine Cooksey, 63, of Olathe passed away suddenly on Friday, November 26, 2010 in Memphis Tennessee while visiting family and friends. Sharon was born icon on April 10, 1947, in Maryville, MO, the daughter of Albert and Mary Cooksey. Sharon was a devoted and loving mother, daughter, grandmother and partner. She cared for both her parents in their time of illness until their passing, most recently her beloved mother. Recently retired, she enjoyed traveling with her partner, Don visiting family and friends while never leaving behind and always by her side, her dog Lavender. Survived by her long time partner, Don Spencer; two children, Kara Ponder and husband Jeff of Stilwell, KS; Leah Fisher and husband Paul of Simsbury, CT; grandchildren, Johnathan Dickinson of Indiana, PA; Lauryn Ponder of Stilwell, KS; two brothers, Jerry Cooksey and wife Kim of Olathe, KS, Dennis Cooksey of CA; cousin Bill Burdick and wife Helga of Willard, MO; Aunts, Uncles, Niece, Cousins, Friends and Dog, Lavender. MYRNA C. EIGENMAN

Myrna C. Eigenman, 73, passed away peacefully at her home on December 2, 2010. Myrna was the eldest child of George and Maurene Collins. Born in Detroit, Michigan on July 25, 1937, she and her family soon moved to Topeka where Myrna spent a lot of time on the farm with Grandaddy Sherm and Aunt Laura. After moving to Kansas City, she graduated from Paseo High in 1955. While at Kansas City University (now called UMKC), she met the love of her life, Gail B. Eigenman in Chemistry class when he asked if she was "Crazy Shirley". She told him she most certainly was not, and three years later, after graduating with a degree in Home Economics and spending weekends watching him drag race, they were married icon on August 25, 1958. They celebrated 52 years of marriage in 2010 at their summer home at the lake. Myrna was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, where she served as President, and later as President of the Kansas City Alumni Chapter. After graduating college she worked at the Gas Service Company for three years and then taught elementary school until her daughter, Georgia, was born. Afterward, she substituted occasionally. By the time her daughter Liz was born, Myrna was busy being Room Mom, CCD teacher, and Campfire Troop Leader. She also spent time managing rental properties, campaigning for local political candidates, and enjoying tennis, golf, bridge, and playing Mahjong. She had many friends, and made new ones easily. Myrna had the gift of gab and a warm spirit that drew people to her wherever she went. Myrna leaves behind her spouse, Gail; her children Georgia Fuchs and Liz Hazell; her sons-in-law George Fuchs and Devon Hazell; grandchildren Kasey and Kaela Fuchs, and Logan and Samantha Hazell; her brother Keith Collins and his wife Sarah; her sister Jackie McQueary, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends who loved her dearly. Larry Keith Harmon, 70, of Buckner, MO, died peacefully at home after a brief illness, surrounded by his family on December 2, 2010. MARY ELIZABETH BRENNAN

Mary Elizabeth Brennan died Friday, January 7, 2011. While her passing was peaceful, the sudden, aggressive attack of metastasized cancer leaves shocked and saddened all that loved her. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence J. Brennan, brother John W. Strong, sister-in-law Marty Strong, daughter Laura E. Brennan, son-in-law John Rooney, granddaughters Ann E. and Sarah C. Rooney, son Mark W. Brennan, daughter-in-law Pattie Shostak, granddaughters Skylar S., Riley P. and Gillian A. Brennan, nephews Frank R. and Benjamin W. Strong. Mary Elizabeth was born icon June 5, 1939, in Columbus, Ohio, to Frank R. and Gertrude Elizabeth Way Strong. She attended Stevens College and the University of Kansas, earning a bachelor's degree in education. ELIZABETH TUTTLE BURGESS

Elizabeth Tuttle Burgess passed away at the Rosecrest Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center on January 7, 2011 in Spartanburg, SC. Born December 31, 1918 in New Haven, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late Franck C. Tuttle and Sarah Droege. She is survived by two sons: Lee P. Burgess, Jr. and wife Carol of Kansas City, MO and Richard (Dick) and wife Virginia (Ginny) of Spartanburg, SC; Four grandchildren: Barbara Burgess Stubbs and husband Jud of Spartanburg, SC, Brian Burgess of New York, NY, Richard Burgess, Jr. and wife Tara of Roebuck, SC and Sara (Shelley) Burgess of Denver, CO; three great- grandchildren: Matthew Campbell, Sara Burgess, and Scott Parker Burgess; one great greatdaughter Arielle Epley. She was predeceased by husband Lee P. Burgess Sr. of 67 years and one great-grandson Timothy Scott Burgess. ROBERT LEE CHARTRAND

Robert Lee Chartrand, 82, of Bethesda, MD died December 26, 2010 in Washington, DC. He was born icon on March 6, 1928 to Joseph S. and Isabel (Doherty) Chartrand in Kansas City, MO. He graduated from Northeast High School (1945) and from UMKC (MA, 1949). He worked for the KC MO City Recreation Division until the Korean War started (1951), then was inducted into the Navy. He became a US Naval Intelligence Officer, serving on the Admiral's staff as a briefer and photo interpreter. Bob next worked for the Central Intelligence Agency before moving into the computer industry in positions with TRW, IBM and PRC. He joined the Library of Congress' Congressional Research Service (1967), retiring as the Senior Specialist in Information Policy and Technology. He was the author of countless articles and books, as well as a noted public speaker, in the field of information management. Honors included the 1984 UMKC Alumni Achievement Award. Bob was married icon 41 years to the former Eleanor Salmon Hodges, who passed away in 2008. They shared a passion for tennis, family and good causes. His volunteerism included Friends of the Collier County (Naples, FL) Library and Friends of the Library, Montgomery County, MD. Survivors include ex-wife Betty (Bogue) Hauck; children K.C. Chartrand, Rockville, MD and Leslie Chartrand- Selman, Vancouver, WA; step-children James Hodges Jr., Atlanta; and Jennifer Hodges, Bethesda, MD; seven grandchildren; and sisters Jane Sue Wassam, Palo Alto, CA; and Ellen G. Marion W. Chipman 90, of St. Petersburg, passed away Monday, January 3, 2011, at Hospice House Woodside. He received his Juris Doctorate from Washburn University School of Law, Topeka, Kansas. MAXINE BEDNAR ALLEN

Maxine Bednar Allen, 91, passed away July 13, 2011, of natural causes at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kan. She leaves her two daughters, Linda Kay Nelson and Brenda Fay Eicher and their families. Maxine's husband, William Allen, passed June 16, 2011. The two were married icon almost 65 years. The family is at peace knowing they are together again in heaven. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 15, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66204. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at Grace United Methodist Church, 11485 S Ridgeview Rd, Olathe, with burial to follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park. Memorial gifts in honor of Maxine Allen may be given to the Johnson County Community College Foundation. Born in Manly, Iowa, Maxine met William while volunteering for the American Red Cross. The two married icon and moved to Kansas. Maxine received her B.S. in Elementary Education and Child Development as well as her M.S. emphasis in Administration of Elementary Education from the University of Kansas, respectively. Maxine was a pioneer in elementary education in Johnson County and was listed in "Who's Who in Educational Administration." Maxine served as a teacher, principal or administrator over her 45 years in the education. She spent 30 years of her work across 47 elementary schools through the Shawnee Mission School District. A former airline hostess with Mid-Continent Airlines, she began her teaching career in Iowa and came to Shawnee Mission in 1955. In 1967, Maxine became the nation's first director of the federal Learning Disability Title III program, which later led to her directorship of Specific Learning Disabilities in the Shawnee Mission School District. Maxine authored numerous books and publications on elementary education and remained an active contributor to elementary education endeavors long after her retirement. Maxine was an amazing leader in the Johnson County community. She was a charter member of the Johnson County Community College Board of Trustees and served on the College Foundation. She remained active at the JCCC by attending the Foundation Board's events and the JCCC Gala. Attending the JCCC Gala was always Maxine and William's big event of the year. Maxine was a Johnson County Library Board of Trustee member serving two terms. She was a supportive force in many of the library system's expansive endeavors including the Edgerton library branch in Edgerton, Kan. Maxine was a political cornerstone in Republican leadership in Johnson County. She was a Kansas delegate for numerous Republican National Conventions. She was a founding member of the Republican Precinct Committee for Women and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution as well. Maxine was also a proud member of the following organizations: National Association for Children with Learning Disabilities, Johnson County Mental Health Association, Special Education Instructional Materials Center (University of Kansas), Kansas Department of Elementary Principals, National Department of Elementary Principals, Life Member of National Education Association (NEA), Delta Kappa Gamma - Beta Mu Chapter, American Association of University Women, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (NEA), Johnson County Navy League Auxiliary and a member of P.E.O. for 51 years. ANN MARGARET BECKER

Ann M. (nee Schneider) Becker, 96, born icon October 5, 1914 in Rantoul near Chilton, WI, passed away July 13, 2011. Ann grew up on the family farm and moved to KC MO with her husband and four children in 1949 to establish the family vending machine business. Ann served 50 years on the Democratic Election Board, was a member of the Ladies Knights of Columbus, Daughters of Isabella, the Over "21" Club and volunteered for the Little Sisters of the Poor and St. Joseph's Hospital. Prior to retirement she worked at Sears on the Plaza and KC Sanitary Supply to help put her children through Catholic schools. She was always alive with life, prayer and her family were her most treasured assets. Ann never met a stranger and had tons of friends. She never looked back to the past but always to the future. Loving to cook and entertain she never sat down when guests were present. She loved to play all kinds of card games such as bridge, gin, poker, cribbage and Sheeps Head. Crossword puzzles, reading books on mysteries and espionage, playing Scrabble, playing on her computer and emailing (started at age 81) kept her active until the end. She lived independently until her last days. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Eugene J. Becker of 60 years, her loving son, Warren M. Becker, granddaughter Kathleen A. (Schatz) Minor and seven brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sister, Eleanor Woelfel, brother Henry (Odelia) Schneider of WI; three daughters Margaret A. (James) Schatz, Springfield, MO; Bernita L. (Joseph) Centeno, Simi Valley, CA; and Mary D. (Mark) Langseth, KC MO. Seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, Donna M. (John) Pinney, Springfield, MO; Elizabeth (Keegan) Kimbrough, St. Louis, MO; Ryann and Megan Pinney, Springfield, MO; Robert G. (Rebecca) Schatz, Kersten and Bethany Schatz, KC MO; Linda L. (Christopher) McClay, Sean and Rachel McClay, Bolivar, MO; Steven (Kelly) Becker, Lauren and Tyler Becker, Sunnyvale, CA; and Michael J. TORY DEAN BUFFINGTON

Tory Dean Buffington was born icon March 9, 1967 in Kearney, NE to Sharon (West) and Ron Buffington. He lived in several states with his family, graduated from Olathe North High School, and attended Kansas State University. Tory and Paige Updike married icon in 1986 and moved to Osceola, NE where they owned and operated a dry cleaning business. They had a son, Joel Dean Buffington. They later divorced. In 1993 Tory married icon Dahlia Poteat. They became the owners of a dry cleaning plant in Lenexa, Ks. To this union a son, Garrett Wendell was born icon completing a family including half sister, Tasha and half brother, William. Tory was an avid nature lover, enjoying time hunting, fishing, collecting Indian artifacts and exploring the beauty of outdoors. Tory loved sharing his excitement for God, nature, and his family with his many friends, enriching their lives with his infectious laugh and keen sense of humor. Tory was baptized as a young boy and carried his religious convictions throughout his life. After years of health issues, Tory passed away on July 10, 2011 at the age of 44 years. He is survived by his parents; sister, Tara West Teague; sons, Joel and Garrett, step children, Tasha and William; niece, Riley Kaye; nephews, Evan Dean and Ty Jackson; cousins, Sara and Bill; and grandmother, Marjorie West. Tory was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dean and Maxine Buffington and Wendell West. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 18th at 6:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Christian Church, 11411 Quivera, Olathe, Kansas. The family will receive friends following the service. LEO DIXON "DICK" CARNEY

Leo Dixon "Dick" Carney, 63 of Independence, MO passed away, Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at his residence. Cremation is planned with a memorial service to be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday morning at the Christ United Methodist Church. Inurnment will follow in Longview Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m., until service time Saturday at the church. Dick was born icon March 2, 1948 in Moberly to Jamie G. and Doris A. (Wassmuth) Carney. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an avid KC Chiefs and Missouri Tiger fan. He graduated from Moberly High School and later from the University of Missouri in 1970 with a degree in accounting. He served in the Army National Guard from 1970-76. As a CPA he had worked for over 20 years with Western Auto Supply Company including serving as Chief Financial Officer. Also held the position of Chief Financial Officer and other positions at Westlake Hardware Inc before retiring in 2006. He had coached his son and daughter in baseball and enjoyed the time spent with the game and most importantly time spent with his children. He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church. He was married icon to Connie D. (Mason) on October 6, 1967, she survives of the home. Other survivors include; a son, Shane Carney and his wife Kathy of Lee's Summit, MO; a daughter, Lea Hilke and her husband Mark of Shorewood, IL; a brother, George Carney and his wife Donna of Moberly, MO; a sister, Marty Patterson and her husband Bill of O'Fallon, MO and two grandchildren, Sam and Tom Hilke of Shorewood, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Tom Carney in 1999.
