Glenn LeRoy Smith
Friday February 5, 2010
Glenn LeRoy Smith, age 68, Mound City, Kansas died Friday February 5, 2010 at Olathe Medical Center. He was born on February 9, 1941 the son of Ira and Iva Reynolds Smith. He started grade school attending the Farlinville School. He finished grade and high in Mound City, graduating from Mound City High School in 1959. He worked as a gang foreman for Southern Pacific and raised cattle. He married Rose Heuer on June 28, 1998. Rose survives of the home. Also surviving are two daughters, Regina Woltfong of Olathe, Kansas and Lisa Warren of Forsythe, Missouri; two step daughters, Deborah Halverson of Kansas City, Kansas and Gina Williams of Olathe, Kansas; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Glenn loved the farm where he was born, raised and currently resided. He was living in a house that he built for his mother. The farm has been in the family since his Grandfather’s time.
Graveside funeral services will be held 10 AM Monday February 8, 2010 at the Richland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 PM Sunday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel in Mound City. The family suggests contributions to the Mayo Clinic, Leukemia Research. Arrangements: Coffel-Schneider, Mound City, Kansas.

Wanda Ross
Monday February 1, 2010
Wanda June Ross, 89, of Fort Scott, Kansas, formerly of Blue Mound, Kansas, died Monday, February 01, 2010 at Prescott Countryview Nursing Home, Prescott, Kansas. She was born July 27, 1920 in Centerville, Kansas, the daughter of Arthur and Mabel Zimmerman Richards. She was a 1938 graduate of Parker High School. On January 27, 1947, she married Floyd Ross. He preceded her in death on September 5, 2009.
Wanda worked for the Linn County ASCS office prior to her retirement.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Fort Scott, Kansas, the National Association Retired Federal Employees and the Westbury Homes Association.
She was preceded in death also by her parents and two brothers, Lloyd Marvin Richards and Cecil L. Richards.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 5, 2010 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Mound City, Kansas. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, Fort Scott, Kansas. Interment will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Blue Mound, Kansas.
Arrangements: Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, Mound City, Kansas.

Bettie Boyles

Bettie Lenora Boyles, 66, of Rich Hill, Missouri, died Sunday, January 31, 2010 at her home. She was born April 26, 1943 in Delight, Arkansas, the daughter of Rufus and Verlin Smith Hickey. She married Leslie Boyles on August 11, 1970. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie, two sons; Phillip and Richard Kesterson, a sister, Bobbie Moses and a granddaughter, Amy Rae Kesterson.
Survivors include a son, Glen Boyles & Jamie of Rich Hill, Missouri, a brother Billy Hickey and several grandchildren.
Cremation with private family services. Contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society c/o the funeral home.

Edna Juanita Holsman

Edna Juanita Vaughn Holsman, age 92, of Mound City, Kansas passed away Sunday March 20, 2011 at the Prescott Country View Nursing Home. She was born on June 8, 1918 in the Wall Street Community the daughter of Ira and Mary Etta Park Paddock. She was a homemaker and worked for a time as the activity director for Pleasant View Manor. She married Marion Vaughn on August 4, 1936 and were happily married for forty years until his death on November 1, 1976. She then married Clarence Holsman who also preceded her in death in 1978. She later had a companion in Glen Pierce. She was also preceded in death by a son in law Kenneth Shroyer, great grandchildren: Nicholas, Trevor, Blade and Brooke, and two sisters, Nellie Cowell and Cleta Barrett. Edna was a member of the Wall Street Church, Rainbow Club, a volunteer at Concern, was a gifted cook, enjoyed her family and spending time with them at Sugar Valley Lake. She is survived by a son John Vaughn and wife Linda of Leawood, Kansas, three daughters: Jeanette Kellstadt and husband Elver J. of Mound City, Joan Shroyer of Shawnee, Kansas, and Judy Poole and husband Don of Mound City, and a sister Thelma Troth of Pleasanton, Kansas, twelve grandchildren: Robert, Duane, Debbie, Vickie, Kelly, Jerry, Tony, Misty, Travis, Meaghan, Marisa and John David, and sixteen great grandchildren: Joshua, Brett, Blake, Briar, Clayton, Anna, Elijah, Caden, Shawn, Kimberly, Kylie, Bailey, Ryleigh, Ayden John, Tyler, and Maleah.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday March 25, 2011 at the Wall Street Christian Church. Burial will be in the Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM Thursday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel in Mound City, Kansas. The family suggests contributions to the Wall St. Church, c/o Coffel-Schneider, P.O. Box J, Mound City, Kansas. Arrangements: Coffel-Schneider, Mound City, KS.

Ernest Sellers

Ernest “Shorty” Sellers, 101, of Pleasanton, Kansas died Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Mercy Health Center, Fort Scott, Kansas.
He was born January 29, 1910 in Burlington, Kansas, the son of Reuben and Lula Rosenberger Sellers.
He married Arzilla Darling on December 2, 1934 at Kansas City, Kansas. They were married for 62 years. Arzilla preceded him in death on March 26, 1996.
Ernest was veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Navy.
He worked as a mail carrier for the Pleasanton Post Office.
He had served on the Pleasanton City Council and Pleasanton School Board and was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Pleasanton for over 53 years.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin, Claude and Wayne Sellers and one sister, Ruth Allen.
He is survived by his son, Steve Sellers of Pleasanton, Kansas.
Services will be held at 3:00 PM, March 19, 2011 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Pleasanton, Kansas. Per Mr. Sellers wishes, he will be cremated. Private burial will be in the Pleasanton cemetery at a later date.

Jaunita May Hoaglan

Juanita May (Hoyt) Hoaglan, age 95 years and 3 months of LaCygne, Kansas died Tuesday March 15, 2011 at the North Point Skilled Nursing Center at Paola, Kansas. Juanita was the 2nd of 8 children born to Lester & Ethel (Mills) Hoyt in Mayfield, Missouri on December 15, 1915.
She married Harold Joseph Hoaglan on July 25, 1934 at Butler, Missouri and he preceded her in death on February 19, 1999. Together they had 3 daughters, Emma Darlene Peek, Lenora June Kile and Iva Loree Mendenhall. They were farmers, living in Kansas and Missouri. Juanita worked as a cook at the Osawatomie State Hospital for several years and then owned and operated a restaurant in La Cygne, Kansas.
Juanita loved to fish with Harold and loved it when she had the best catch of the day.
They retired to Amoret, Missouri where they lived on their private lake, later moving to Grove, Oklahoma on Grand Lake where they could fish nearly every day and play cards every evening. They were active in senior activities in the community. They moved back to Kansas when Harold had to move into a Nursing Facility and Juanita lived with her daughter Lenora during that time. After his death she moved into La Harper Heights in LaCygne and lived there until her health failed in late December after her 95th birthday.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Ethel, two brothers Clarence, and Lester, two sisters; Ella Hill and Pauline Bell and a son-in-law Raymond Kile.
She is survived by her three daughters, Darlene Peek of Amoret, Missouri., Lenora June Kile of Kansas City, Kansas and Loree Mendenhall of Linn Valley, Kansas, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 2 great, great granddaughters, a brother J W (Bill) Hoyt of Jarrell, Texas, two sisters; Glenna Wallace of Leavenworth, Kansas, and Hazel Rhynerson, of Blue Mound, Kansas, numerous step grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Services will be held at 11: oo am Saturday March 19, 2010 at the Calvary Baptist Church LaCygne, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday March 18, 2011 at the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home LaCygne, Kansas. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn cemetery LaCygne, Kansas. The family suggests contributions to the Calvary Baptist Church or Hospice Odyssey. Arrangements: Coffel-Schneider funeral Home LaCygne, Kansas

Earl Edward Self

Earl Edward Self, age 86, Mound City, Kansas died Monday March 14, 2011 at his Farlinville home. He was born on November 26, 1924 at Farlinville, Kansas the son of James and Celia Jackman Self. He attended the Farlinville School. He was a farmer and stockman. Earl married Daisy Pearson on August 18, 1945 at Paola, Kansas. To this union, four children were born: Edward Self and Carmen of Mound City, Kansas, Charles Self and Diana of Parker, Kansas, Mary Simpson and Gary of Mound City, Kansas and Barbara Morris who preceded him in death. Barbara’s husband Fred also survives along with nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a twin brother Merle, an infant brother and a sister Mary Phillips.
Funeral service will be held at 10 AM Saturday March 19, 2011 at the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home in Mound City, Kansas. Burial will be in the Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 PM Friday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel. The family suggests contributions to Southern Care Hospice or Interim Home Health c/o Coffel-Schneider, Box J, Mound City, Kansas 66056. Arrangements: Coffel-Schneider, Mound City, Kansas.

Howard Wright

Howard Robert Wright, 67,of Blue Mound, Kansas, died suddenly at his home on Monday, May 23, 2011. He was born January 16, 1944 in Fort Scott, Kansas, the son of Eldon and Orpha Mae Tillery Wright.
Howard served with the United States Navy on the USS Enterprise during the Vietnam conflict. He was married to Marlene Cushman and to this union two daughters were born, Tina and Stace y. He later married Connie Noe on July 22, 1992.
He was employed as a Millwright, retiring in 2002. After retirement he continued ranching and enjoyed watching the PBR and gardening. He was a member of the Blue Mound United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge and the Millwright Union Local #1529.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Stacey.
Survivors include his wife, Connie of Blue Mound, Kansas a daughter, Tina Aggers and husband, Hal of Blue Mound, Kansas and his dogs, Lady & Peppi.
Services were held at 10:00 AM, Friday, May 27, 2011 at the United Methodist Church, Blue Mound, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM, Thursday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Mound City, Kansas. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Blue Mound United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Sunny Slope Cemetery, Blue Mound.

Velma Louise Miller age, 86 of Butler, Missouri died Sunday May 22, 2011 at the Medical Lodge of Butler, Missouri. She was born on October 11, 1924 in LaCygne, Kansas the daughter of Clemmit and Edith Reynolds Anderson. Velma was married to Roy Richard Miller he preceded her in death. She worked as a house wife raising 6 Kids. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son; Oscar Henry Miller, three brothers; Clarence, James, and Henry Anderson, and a sister, Viola Collins. She is survived by three sons; Richard Miller and wife Janice of Rich Hill, Missouri, Larry Miller of Pleasanton, Kansas, and Clarence Miller of LaCygne, Kansas, two daughters; Bessie Rich and husband Warren of Rich Hill, Missouri, and Betty Jackson and husband Tim of Wheat Rich, Colorado, a brother, Howard Anderson, two sisters; Ruth O’Dell, and Betty Hall and husband Allen, 11 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday 25, 2011 at the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home LaCygne, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to service time Wednesday. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn cemetery in LaCygne, Kansas. The family suggests contributions to the charity of one’s choice.

Daniel Lee Kilgore, 42, of Pleasanton, Kansas, died Sunday, May 22, 2011 at North Point Skilled Nursing Center, Paola, Kansas. He was born March 10, 1969 in Roseville, California, the son of George and Theresa Calkins Kilgore. He was a graduate of Pleasanton High School, class of 1987 and a member of the First Baptist Church, Pleasanton, Kansas.
He married Melissa Harvey on October 1, 1993. Daniel was preceded in death by his mother and one son, Nathaniel. Survivors include his wife, Melissa of Pleasanton, Kansas; his father and step-mother, George and Leta Kilgore of Grove, Oklahoma; two sons, Daniel Kilgore II and Travis Kilgore, and a daughter, Samantha Kilgore, all of Pleasanton, Kansas; five brothers, George Kilgore Jr, Patrick Kilgore, David Patno, and David and Melvin Staniec; five sisters, Dana Goudie, Georgia Brooks, Kathy Painter, Cindy Elkston and Sharon.
Daniel loved fishing and camping and music, especially music by Credence Clearwater Revival.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, May 26, 2011 at the Harmony Grove Cemetery, Dennis, Kansas. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM, Wednesday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Pleasanton, Kansas. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Daniel Kilgore Memorial Fund c/o the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home.

Tiera Nicole Whitley, age 20, Fort Scott, Kansas died Sunday May 22, 2011 as the result of the Joplin, Missouri tornado. She was born September 20, 1990 at Overland Park, Kansas the daughter of Jerry and Mary Johnston Whitley. She attended Prescott, Kansas Elementary School and graduated from Jayhawk Linn High School in 2009. Tiera was a talented artist and photographer and enjoyed fishing and wood working. She was currently employed as a shift manager at Taco Bell in Fort Scott. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Forrest “Bud” Johnston. She is survived by mother and father, Mary and Jerry Whitley of Prescott, a sister Shelby Whitley, a brother Joseph Whitley both of Prescott, maternal grandmother Ladean Kempinger and husband Karl, paternal grandparents, Eldred and Carol Whitley, and maternal great grandmother Virginia Dozier, and eternal friend Ashley Stark. Tiera was her entire family’s pride and joy.
Funeral services will be held at 11AM Tuesday May 31, 2011 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel in Pleasanton, Kansas. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Fulton, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM Monday at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Tiera Whitley Scholarship Fund, c/o Coffel-Schneider, P.O.
