Alva Pipkin

Alva LaMoyne Pipkin of Cheney, 84, died March 11, 2012, in Cheney. Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at Vinita cemetery near Cheney. Burial was at Vinita Cemetery.

Pipkin was preceded in death by all his siblings and family, including parents Alva Daniel and Hazel (Dewey) Pipkin.

No memorials have been established. Lanterman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jack Braden

Jack G. Braden, age 79, retired Boeing Supervisor, currently of rural Chanute and formerly of Haysville, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2012. Services will be held at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at First Christian Church, Haysville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Pearle (Francis) Braden; daughter, Gina; granddaughter, Julia Violet Braden. Survivors: wife of 59 years, Charlene; sons, Lonnie (Wanda) Braden of Bartlett, Ill., and Darrell (Pam) Braden of Haysville; sister, Mary Lea Ashcraft of Parsons; brother, Gary (Kathy) Braden of Wichita; and six grandchildren.

Webb-Shinkle Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Jimmy Curley

Jimmy L. Curley, age 75, of Clearwater, retired Garvey Grain elevator maintenance worker, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2012.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary, Clearwater.

Jimmy Lewis Curley was born on April 29, 1936 in Wichita, Kansas. He was one of 5 children born to his parents, John William Curley and Ethel Luella (Fahs) Curley.

He was united in marriage to Virginia Lucille (Schooley) on April 7, 1980, in Newkirk, Okla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Virginia. He is survived by his children, Roy (Cathy) Curley of Clearwater, Janine (Rob) Driggers of Wichita, and Marie (Cleve) Young of Elkhart, Kan.; sisters, Dorothy Curley of El Monte, Calif., and Rose (Herman) Dohman of Seal Beach, Calif.; brothers, George Curley of Wichita, Bob (Patricia) Curley of Georgia, Texas; grandchildren, Kera and Douglas Curley, Robert, Angel and Lance Driggers, and Shae, Tyson, Tyrese and Ashlyn Young; great- granddaughter, Kayliee Curley.

Memorials may be made to Woodland Lakes Community Church, 770 S. Greenwich Rd., Wichita, KS 67207.

Webb-Shinkle Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Edward Minges

Edward Henry Minges entered into rest on February 17 in Fremont, California at the age of 89. Predeceased by his wife Theresa Minges in December of 2010. Beloved father of Edward H. Minges, Jr. of Kansas and Michael V. Minges of Fremont. Treasured grandfather of Edward Minges, Peter Minges and Andrew Minges. Dear brother of Mary Eleanor Long of Cheney.

Born September 14, 1922 in Ponca City, Oklahoma, Edward was a 1940 graduate of Cheney High School. He was a WWII and Korean War veteran with a 23-year career in the Navy as a naval officer. He loved to square dance, was a gifted photographer, and was a talented wood working-making furniture for fun.

At his request, no services were held. Internment at Irvington Memorial cemetery in Fremont.

Marie Seidl

Marie M. Seidl, 89, of St. Joe Ost died February 22 in Wichita. She was born on August 15, 1922 in Ost, and married Valentine Seidl on February 8, 1944 at St. Joe Ost. She is preceded in death by her husband Valentine (Val) Seidl, Michael Seidl, and Mary Joan Seidl.

Sons Raphael, Leon, Kenneth, Richard, and Virgil Seidl survive her. Two grandchildren also survive her.

A Rosary was held on Feb. 24, and funeral Mass was held on Feb. 25, both at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ost. Interment was held at St Joseph Cemetery, Ost.

Wulf-Ast Mortuary handled the arrangements.

Grace Doss

Grace C. (Ricken) Doss, 90, of Garden Plain, retired co-owner of Walt’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers, died Tuesday, May 8. Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 11, and funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 12, both at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Garden Plain. Interment will be at St. Anthony cemetery of Garden Plain. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Wulf-Ast Mortuary in Garden Plain.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry G. Ricken and Anna K. Neises. He is survived by her husband, Joe Doss of Garden Plain; sons, Larry (Judy) Doss of Wichita, Ken Doss of Viola, and Mike Doss of Woodland Park, Colo.; brother, Wilfred Ricken of Garden Plain; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Gateway Foundation in Garden Plain, the Garden Plain Senior Center, or St. Jude’s Cancer Research.

Arrangements were by Wulf-Ast Mortuary of Garden Plain.

Leon Cotton

Leon E. Cotton, age 86, of Wichita, retired Vulcan Chemical operator, died Sunday, May 6, 2012.

Visitation was 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, with family present, 6-7 p.m. at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary, Clearwater. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church at Clearwater.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mildred (Gilges) Cotton; son, Phillip Cotton; and parents, Arthur and Mary Violet (Coon) Cotton. Survivors include his children, Carol (Paul) Clark of Clearwater, Steven (Barbara) Cotton of Viola, Kay (Jerry) Harris of Clearwater, Greg Cotton of Clearwater, and Dana (Robert) Fitzsimmons of Winfield, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Jeanine Cotton of Wichita; sister, Martha Fisher of Norwich; 15 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church Bell Tower, 306 E. Ross, Clearwater, KS 67026.

Mary Thimmesch

Mary R. (Wendell) Thimmesch, 61, of Garden Plain, beloved wife, mother, daughter and sister, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2012. Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, May 6, and Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 7, both at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Garden Plain with Father Sam Pinkerton officiating.

Mary was born Feb. 23, 1951, in Beloit, Kan., to her parents George and Pat Wendell. On Nov. 20, 1971, she married Allen Thimmesch in Garden Plain. She was a very talented beautician for 43 years, but to her many clients she was much more. She was a dear friend who loved her ladies as much as they loved her. She enjoyed reading, cooking, crafts and helping others. Her carvings, painting and beading of gourds were works of art admired and cherished by many.

She is survived by her best friend and loving husband of 40 years, Allen; son, Chad Thimmesch (Malinda) of Peck; parents, George and Pat Wendell of Garden Plain; sisters, Liz Sommerhauser (Gary), Jean Friess (Dave), and Rosie Wendell, all of Wichita, Cathy Mathews (L.D.) of Wake Forest, N.C., and Teresa Hinkle (Reed) of Austin, Texas; brothers, Dave Wendell (Diane) of Jerseyville, Ill., Mike Wendell (Gina) of Blue Springs, Mo., and Tim Wendell (Claudia) of Wichita; two granddaughters, Grace and Jackie Schwemmer of Peck; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Catholic Diocese of Wichita, Priest Retirement Endowment Fund (PREF), 424 N. Broadway, Wichita, KS 67202.

Arrangements were by Downing & Lahey Mortuary West in Wichita. Online tributes may be sent to the family via www.dlwichita.com.

Henry Cross

Henry Wallace Cross, 86, died May 16 at the Cheney Golden Age Home.

He was born July 19, 1925 in Wichita the son of Artie and Vera Burger Cross. A lifetime resident of the Cheney and Kingman County areas, he was a retired farmer/stockman and a retired LearJet Supervisor. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Cheney.

On January 17, 1945, he married Ruth Ann Bertholf at Towanda, she died April 8, 2001. Survivors include son Dan and his wife Marcia; daughter Connie Peterson and her husband Tom; son-in-law Ralph Kropp; sister Barbara Jean McBurney, and an aunt, Josephine Jones; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by daughter Debbie Kropp; grandson Stuart Peterson; and sisters Wilma Rickard, Kathryn Harris and Peggy Crumbliss.

Funeral services were held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Livingston Funeral Home in Kingman. Burial was held in the Greenwood cemetery in Belmont.

Memorials may be made with the Cheney United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.

Kenneth Mount

Kenneth Mount, 53, died May 15 in Anthony. He was born December 28, 1948 in Kansas City to Kenneth E. and Isabelle Bird Mount. He was a mechanic and route salesman for Ehrlich Electric Company while residing in Milton.

He is survived by his son, Bobby Mount of Milton; brothers, Curtis (Vivian) Mount of Viola, Craig (Lisa) Mount of Goddard, Kevin Mount of Wichita and Roger Mount of Wichita; sister, Elizabeth (Mike) Johnston of Wichita; granddaughter, Shelby Mount.

Funeral Mass was held Monday, May 21 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Garden Plain. Graveside service following the Mass was held at noon at Greenwood cemetery in Wichita. Officiating clergy was Father Sam Pinkerton. Arrangements were made by Wulf-Ast Mortuary.

Raymond Rosenhagen

Raymond Rosenhagen, 76, passed away on May 15. Raymond served in the U.S. Army and was a lifetime dairyman and farmer. He served many years on various boards including St. Paul’s Lutheran School, USD #268, Garden Plain Coop, Citizen’s State Bank, and Grand River Township. He will always be remembered for his support of the students of Cheney Schools and all their activities.

He is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Pauline. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Charlotte, son Mark (Kristine) Rosenhagen, daughter Lori (Scott) Wood, and son Greg (Lori) Rosenhagen. Grandchildren, Josh and Katie Bruner, Danielle, Tyson, Caleb, Joshua, and Moriah Wood, Brooke, Rachel, and Victoria Rosenhagen; brothers, Ronald (June), Richard (Karen), and Renard (Patty) Rosenhagen.

Visitation was held Thursday, May 17. Funeral services were held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Friday, May 18 at 10 a.m. A memorial has been established with St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or Cheney High School Activities Fund.

Charles Griem

Charles Lewis Griem, 82, died Sunday, April 29 at South Wind Hospice in Pratt. He was born December 3, 1929 in Medicine Lodge, the son of Charles and Edna (Willitts) Griem. On August 19, 1951 he married Betty Jo Smith in Medicine Lodge.

He was a member of the B.P.O E. Elks Lodge #1451 and was retired owner and operator of E-Z Stop Convenience store in Pratt. He was an avid golfer, loved fishing and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters: Tracy and John Milledge of Alva, Okla., Marty and Randy Wald of Pratt, Kelly Schartz and fiancée Chris Walters of Cheney, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters: Alverda Shoults, Florence Simon, Doris Long and Gussie Long.

Graveside service was held Wednesday May 2 at 11 a.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt.

Memorials can be made to South Wind Hospice in care of Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt.
