WALTER W. SCHULER

Walter Schuler,73, of Kansas City, KS passed away Wednesday February 9th, 2005 at his home. Services will be held Monday February 14th, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee at 10:30 a.m. Friends may call Sunday the 13th from 2-4:00 p.m. at the Chapel. Burial in Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Walter was born March 19th, 1931 in Kansas City, MO to Arthur and Hazel (Collier) Schuler. He graduated from Washington High School and served in the United States Navy until 1955. Walter owned and operated a barber shop in the Turner area of KCK and also the Turner Food Store and a Barbeque and Deli and was the founder of Schuler Liquors that is still operating today. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge #1999. Walter is survived by his wife Betty; his daughter Sabrina and her husband Tim and their son Pace. His son Michael Schuler his wife Joy and their children Nicholas Schuler and Katie Laws; his great grandson Wesley Laws. LEWIS PHILIP HAHN

Lewis Philip Hahn, 89, of Hesston, KS, formerly of Shawnee, KS, died Feb. 9 at
Schowalter Villa, Hesston, KS. Visitation to be at Shawnee United Methodist Church Feb. 12, 2:30-5:00 with service at the church Feb. 13 at 2:30. Memorials to Shawnee United Methodist.

Lewis was born Aug. 21, 1915 in Cottage Grove, IN. He graduated from Miami
Univ., Ohio, 1938. He married Arline Brewer July 7, 1943 in Washington DC. He retired from the US Weather Bureau as a river forcaster in 1975 after 38 yrs. Lewis had been active in the community, a member of Shawnee UMC, served on the Johnson Co. election board, and had been a volunteer at the National Archives. He was an avid gardener, photographer, and geneologist. He is survived by wife Arline, sons Mark, Littleton, CO and Allen, Hesston, 4 grandchildren, and sister Doris Burdsall, VA.

RUTH APPLEYARD

Ruth Appleyard, 88, Overland Park, KS passed away Fri. Feb. 11, 2005, at Overland Park Manor. Private Services At Mt. Olivet Cemetery

DANA JEAN (HUTCHINSON) RIEDEL

Dana Riedel, 49, was called home to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, February 14, 2005 at her home. Services will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 17, 2005, at Overland Park Christian Church, with burial at Antioch Cemetery, Merriam, KS. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 16, 2005 from 6-8 PM at Amos Family Chapel of Lenexa. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Animal Haven Animal Shelter, 9800 W. 67th St., Shawnee Mission, KS 66203.
Dana was a lifelong resident of Overland Park, Kansas except for attending college in Hays, Kansas where she met and married Bob. She graduated from Shawnee Mission West and Fort Hays State College with a Masters in Special Education. She was a Special Education teacher in the Shawnee Mission and Hays, KS school districts. She was presented the PTA Lifetime Achievement Award and was involved in Girls Scouts. She was loved by many including her husband Bob of the home, daughters Renee and Rachael, sons Ryan and Rusty, one grandchild Sadie, parents Merrill and Rowena Hutchinson, sister Dee Ann and brother Dean. She was adored by all nieces, nephews and many friends and students’ whose lives she touched in her 25 years of teaching. (Arrangements: Amos Family Chapel of Lenexa 913-888-6611)

LESLIE W. DOBBINS

Leslie W. Dobbins, age 69, founder and CEO of Numerical Control Support, Inc died February 13th in his sleep while on a ski trip in Dillon, Colorado.

Les was born April 06, 1935 in Linn, Kansas to the late Robert E and Hazel Baker Dobbins. He graduated from East High School in Kansas City, Missouri and later worked as a machinist for Westinghouse Jet Engine Plant, Twin City Tool & Die and Growth Industries. In 1974, Les, along with his wife Mary, founded Numerical Control Support, Inc in their basement with one machine which has grown over 30 years to a 50,000 square foot facility, gaining a reputation as a premier high tech, precision manufacturer in the Midwest, serving aerospace, electronic and food industries. Les and his company have been featured in many trade publications and recognized by Fortune 500 companies for their excellence in quality, innovative technology and customer satisfaction. In 2000, former Kansas Governor Graves praised NCS’s contribution to Kansas industry.

Les met his best friend and wife of 52 years when they both worked at Parkview Drugs soda fountain. They later created an antique soda fountain in their home where they enjoyed entertaining family and friends. He was known for the best malt in Kansas City by those fortunate enough to sample his work. Les was an adventurous man who loved nature and enjoyed working outdoors, traveling, canoeing and skiing. He loved his family dearly and taught life’s most valuable lessons by quiet example.

Les was an active member of First Baptist Church of Shawnee, where he previously served as a deacon, youth leader and college-age leader. He was also a member of the Kansas Chamber of Commerce, Shawnee Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers. He was known throughout the Shawnee area for sponsoring 3&2 baseball for over 20 years.

Les is survived by his wife, Mary, his two sons and their wives, Les, Jr. and Loretta of Suwanee, GA; Gary and Bonnie of Louisburg, KS; his two daughters and their husbands, Pam and Guinn Curtis of Olathe, KS; Brenda and Randy Briscoe of Matthews, NC; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Clower, Chris Curtis, Joshua Briscoe, Amber Bates, Amanda Dobbins, Jennifer Curtis, Brandy Briscoe, Casey Dobbins; eight great grandchildren; three brothers, Eddie, Ernie and Bobby; two sisters, Gladys Gibson and Doloris Edwards. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Delmar Baker, sisters Roberta Wagner and Lela Fern Dobbins.

Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday, February 17th at the First Baptist Church of Shawnee, 11400 Johnson Drive, Shawnee Kansas and a memorial celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, at the church. Pastors David Brown and Jim Conard will officiate. Entombment will be in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens. Family and friends are welcomed.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Youth Fund at First Baptist Church of Shawnee, Kansas, JOA Ministries, Inc PO Box 3407, Shawnee, KS, DeSoto Youth Ministries, Inc Box 545, DeSoto, KS or the American Diabetes Association.

GAYLE MARIE HUNTER

Gayle Hunter, 88, Kansas City, KS passed away February 13, 2005 at Providence Medical Center. Graveside services will be at 3:00 PM, Thursday, February 17, 2005 at Antioch Cemetery. JOYCE MYRTLE HOLTER

Joyce M. Holter, 65, Kansas City, MO was welcomed home by her heavenly father on Monday, Feb 14, 2005 at Delmar Gardens of Lenexa, KS. She was born on July 18, 1939 to Amzie and Pearl Mackes in Allentown, PA. She graduated from Govenor Miffin High School in Shillington PA and moved to Kansas City in 1962. She was a loving mother and grandmother; always willing to lend a hand to a friend, family or stranger—she always gave from her heart! She was a cleaning lady and nanny for many loving families over the years. Joyce was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, National Rifle Association, Docent at the Alexander Majors Museum, member of the Republican Campaign Committee and avid Rush Limbaugh fan. She is survived by her mother, Pearl Mackes, one daughter; Cynthia Sims and husband Andy Sims, two sons; Dan Holter and wife, Mary Holter, and son Dean Holter; three grandchildren; Danielle and Samantha Holter and Tyler Sims. Memorial services will be held 3 PM Monday, February 21, 2005 at the Heartland Church, 8301 Lamar. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Shepherd Center of Waldo, Hospice of Kansas; Angel Flight and the Heartland Church. Thomas M. Amyx

Funeral services for Thomas M. Amyx, 77, Lawrence, KS will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 4, 2010 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence, KS. Burial will follow the services at Memorial Park cemetery in Lawrence. He died on Friday, September 30, 2010 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born on June 3, 1933 at home in Lone Elm, KS, the son of Cecil Dean and Ethel May (Ross) Amyx. He had been a resident of Lawrence since 1942. He was a 1952 graduate of Liberty Memorial High School.

Mr. Amyx served his country in the United States Navel Reserves. He was a Barber and owned Tom’s 14th Street Barber Shop and later owned Amyx Barber Shop until the mid 1990’s.

He was married to Shirley Mae Raymer on October 28, 1952 in Bentonville, AR. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include three sons, Mike Amyx, and wife, Marilyn, Jon Amyx, and wife, Carol, Ron Amyx, and wife, Betty all of Lawrence, KS; eleven grandchildren, Brenn, Stephen, Adam, Chris, Jay, Joe, Mandy, Rachel Amyx, Ashlea Denison, Kelly Johnson and Kim Field; and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son; David Amyx in 2005; and a sister; Helen Amyx Wilson.

The family will greet friends from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

The family suggests memorials in his name to the Lawrence Humane Society or to a charity of donor’s choice and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

LILY C. BUSH

Lily C. Bush, 89, of Shawnee, KS, passed away, Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at Garden Terrace of Overland Park. Services will be 1 p.m., Friday, February 18 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee with burial in Chapel Hill memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6 – 7 p.m., Thursday at the chapel.
Mrs. Bush was born in Kansas City, KS. She worked at Swift Meat Co. and later for Woolworth and Woolco Department Stores. She was a member of Bristol Hill United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Bush and a daughter, Ruth Venard. Survivors include a daughter, Betty Snider, of Shawnee, KS; two grandchildren, Staci Nipko and Mark Snider; three great grandchildren, Dakota William Nipko, Cheyenne Elizabeth Nipko and Chayton James Nipko. CLELIA MURIEL BOUCHER

Clelia M. Boucher, 85 of Shawnee, KS passed away February 16, 2005 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Gravesides services will be held 10:00 am. Saturday at Mt Washington Cemetery. Friends may call Friday February 18, 2005 from 6-7:30 PM at The Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. In lieu of flowers family suggest memorial contributions be given to the Merriam Christian Church.
Clelia was born January 9, 1919 to Alfred and Helen Stroud in Kansas City, KS. She was a co-owner of Shawnee Appliance with her husband Dick from 1961-1981. She was a member of The Merriam Christian Church. She is survived by her husband Dick of the home; two daughters, Sandra Beck and Sheryl Horwedel; two sons, Alfred Strohm and Ronald Boucher; a sister Donna Norman; a brother-in-law, Robert Watson; 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. KENNETH “KEN” JAMES MORRIS

Ken Morris, 56, Shawnee, Ks passed away Wed. Feb. 16, 2005, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee with Visitation 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday at the Chapel with burial at the Oakland Cemetery, Montezuma, IN. In lieu of flowers the family request that contributions may be made to the Charity of Choice.

Ken received a BS in Chemistry from Indiana State University, Terre Haute, IN. He was a director with the KC Chapter of NAIC and V.P. of the Computer Group of NAIC, and active member of the Kansas A.N.A., and a member of St Michael and All Angeles Episcopal Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Thelma Morris and twin sister Kathy Rauckman.

Survivors include his wife, Suzanne three daughters, Richelle Carlisle of Beverly, MA, Sara Anne and Emily Marie Morris both of the home; two brothers, Larry Morris Folsom, CA and John Morris Anderson, IN; two grandchildren Mackenzie and Bailey Carlisle and many nieces and nephews. VILLA CORNWELL

Villa Cornwell, 91, Overland Park, KS passed away Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005 at The Indian Meadows Nursing Center. Graveside services will be held 10:30 AM, Tuesday, Feb 22, 2005 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Cornwell was born Sept. 22, 1913 to John and Rosetta Duncan in Scott City, Kansas. She was united in marriage on June 6, 1930 to Raymon Cornwell. She was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by husband Raymon. She is survived by three daughters; Anna Westfall of OP, KS, Clara Pyles of Grain Valley, MO and Zelma Lary of KC, KS. two sons; Leroy Cornwell of Raymore, MO, and Thomas Cornwell of Lee’s Summit, MO. CATHERINE O. McNELLEY

Catherine O. McNelley, 95, of Overland Park, KS, passed away, Friday, February 18, 2005 at Delmar Gardens of Overland Park. Cremation.

Mrs. McNelley was born September 30, 1909 in Paola, KS to Herbert and Beulah Rainey Smith. She was a member of the Paola United Methodist Church and had been a volunteer for the Red Cross. Her husband and best friend, John W. “Wes” McNelley, died July 17, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents and three brothers. EUNICE (SUE) BARTELS CUPPAGE

Eunice Cuppage, 102, passed away February 18, 2005 at Manor Care Nursing Facility in Overland Park, KS after leading a full life. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Aurora, OH she was preceded in death by her husband; Frank Edward Cuppage, three sisters and one brother.
She is survived by one brother; James Bartels of Venice, FL and three sons; Francis E. (Pete) Cuppage, M.D., of Shawnee, KS, R. Michael Cuppage of Aurora, OH and Timothy S. Cuppage of San Diego, CA. (Arr; The Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee 913-631-5566).

ROSINA A. KNIGHT

Rosina A. Knight, 82, of Mission , KS passed away Saturday, February 19, 2005 at her home. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m.., Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with burial at Highland Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 pm., Monday at The Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee.
Rosina was born June 9, 1922 in Sedalia, MO where she lived until 1943 when she moved to Kansas City after graduating from Smith-Cotton High School and Central Business College. She was employed by The Western Auto Co., and later worked for K.C. Tractor Co, Oliver Tractor Co. and the Pyramid Life Insurance Co., which were all located in the Kansas City area. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. She was also a member of the Esther Circle of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Roy Knight of the home; a sister-in-law, Betty Lee Evans of Syracuse, NY; two brothers; William C. Bergmann of Springfield, MO and Harold J. D. Warren Hyde

David Warren Hyde, 65, Lenexa, KS passed away Monday, February 21, 2005 at St. Luke’s Hospital.

Born in Parsons, KS, July 8, 1939, he was one of four children of Paul W. and Eileen C. (Coursey) Hyde. Warren was a 1957 graduate of St. Patrick’s High School in Parsons, attended Rockhurst College, and served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Elizabeth Davis, and they celebrated their 45th anniversary together on January 12, 2005.

While living in Parsons, he and his father were partners in a wholesale/retail floral business and Warren was also employed by TecTank, Inc. He was active in his church and community, and served leadership roles in numerous organizations including the Parsons Catholic School Board, Diocese of Wichita School Board, Kansas Heart Association, Kansas State Florist Association, American Academy of Florists, Parsons Chamber of Commerce, Parsons Kiwanis Club, and the National Association of Corrosion Engineers.

After joining Colombian Steel Tank in 1977, Warren and his family moved to Shawnee, KS. In 1983, he joined a steel fabrication company, Zephyr Products, Inc. of Leavenworth as sales manager. Warren advanced his career with Zephyr to become a major shareholder and Vice President of Sales.

He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Shawnee, and was a member of the choir since 1983.

He is survived by his wife Mary Elizabeth of the home; four daughters and their spouses, Melissa and Earl Litherland of St. Francisville, LA, Kathy and Bob Phelps of Coral Springs, FL, Marilyn and Bill Ramsey of Wichita, and Nancy Hyde of Shawnee; sisters Mary Paula Feess of Parsons, KS, and Jane Hyde of Wichita, KS, brother Mark Hyde of Shawnee, KS; and eight grandchildren, Austin Litherland, Lauren and Tim Phelps, Justin, Meagan, Riley and Noah Terreau, Kyle Hyde and step-grandchild Ty Ramsey. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Jennifer Blevins.

Visitation and prayer service will be held Wednesday, February 23rd from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 12800 West 75th Street, Shawnee, KS. The funeral service will be held at Good Shepherd, Thursday, February 24th at 11:30 am. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery.

CIPRIANO G. (PANO) CISNEROS

Cipriano G. Cisneros, 82, Merriam, KS passed away Monday, February 21, 2005 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, February 24, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Inurnment at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday from 6-8 PM at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee with a rosary recitation at 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Joseph Catholic Church.

KENNETH W. ARNOLD

Kenneth W. Arnold, 73, Shawnee, KS passed away Monday, Feb. 21, 2005 at his home. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, Feb. 24 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday at the Appanoose Cemetery, Douglas Co., KS. Friends may call from 10-11:00 AM, Thursday at the chapel. Kenneth was born Feb. 6, 1932 in Marcelene, MO to John and Ada (Bunch) Arnold. He had been employed with General Motors in Fairfax, retiring in 1982. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Flavel (Little) Arnold; son, Anthony Arnold and hise wife, Grace, Shawnee, KS; two sisters, Caroline Sue Grabial, LaCyne, KS and JoAnn Franz, Kansas City, KS; two grandchildren, Melvin Arnold and David Arnold.
