Louise Leis 1924-2000
TUCSON, Ariz. - Louise Leis, 76, died Aug. 3 at Hemet, Calif. She was born
April 4, 1924, the daughter of Frederick P. and Christina Braun Dreiling.
She married Paul Leis Aug. 17, 1963, at Denver, Colo. He died Sept. 23,
1999. A longtime resident of Tucson, coming from Walker, she was a
homemaker.
Survivors include two brothers, Tony Dreiling of Holly, Colo., and Fred
Dreiling of Great Bend; and one sister, Helen Shaffer of Hemet. She was
preceded in death by three sisters, Edna Balding, Josephine Major and
Amelia Bernay.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anne's Catholic Church in
Walker with the Rev. Frank Grinko officiating. Burial will be at the church
cemetery in Walker. Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend is in
charge of local arrangements.

Helen Haring 1911-2000
BUSHTON - Helen Haring, 89, died Sept. 5 at her daughter's home in High
Rolls, N.M. She was born Aug. 5, 1911, at Bushton, the daughter of Martin
L. and Pearl Logan Shonyo. She was a 1929 graduate of Bushton High School
and a 1933 graduate of Emporia State University with a bachelor's degree in
education. She married E.L. "Lee" Haring March 3, 1934, at Council Grove.
He died Oct. 14, 1999. A resident of High Rolls since 1995, coming from
Bushton, she was a school teacher in Kansas, Colorado and Florida.
Mrs. Haring was a member of United Methodist Church in Bushton.
Survivors include one son, David L. Haring of Scaly, Texas; one daughter,
Wanda Lee Cumba of High Rolls; 11 grandchildren; and eight
great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Revs. Barbara
Parker and David Trott officiating. Burial will be at Bushton Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Alamogordo Home Care and Hospice or Kansas
Historical Society, both in care of Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons.

Kayla Sue Plume 1941-2000
HEREFORD, Ariz. - Kayla Sue Plume, 59, died Sept. 4 at Life Care Center in
Sierra Vista, Ariz.
Memorials are suggested to Kayla Plume Memorial Fund for Life Care Center
in Sierra Vista or American Cancer Society Memorial, both in care of Marie
Storment, 2160 East Fry Blvd., Suite C-5 No. 343, Sierra Vista, AZ 85635.
Arrangements are being handled by Jensen's Sierra Vista Mortuary in Sierra
Vista.

Sue J. Meitner 1920-2000
WICHITA - Sue J. Meitner, 80, died Sept. 5. She was born Feb. 2, 1920, at
Dodge City, the daughter of John Lewis and Veva Wilcox Van Valkenberg. She
married Carl Meitner Jan. 4, 1941, at Wichita. A longtime resident of
Wichita, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Meitner was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wichita and
served as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader.
Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Gregory Meitner of
Wichita; two daughters, Carla Meeds and Nikki Nelson, both of Wichita; 10
grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Rosary service will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the church. Funeral Mass
will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Friends may call until 8 tonight
and from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Thursday at Watson Funeral Home in Wichita.
Memorials are suggested to Catholic Charities St. Anthony's Shelter, in
care of the funeral home.

Richard Antonio 'Rick' Hilario 1978-2000
ARKANSAS CITY - Richard Antonio "Rick" Hilario, 21, died Sept. 4 at St.
Luke's Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo. He was born Sept. 5, 1978, in
Arkansas City, the son of Greg and Teresa Viramontes Hilario. He was a 1997
graduate of Arkansas City High School, where he was active in football and
wrestling. He was crowned Homecoming King in 1996. A lifetime resident of
Arkansas City, he was an employee of Gordon-Piatt Energy Group and
Hillcrest Lanes Bowling Alley, where he worked as a mechanical helper.
Survivors include his companion, Brooke Butler; his father of Arkansas
City; his mother and stepfather, Teresa and Dale Hanna of Great Bend; three
brothers, Greg Hilario Jr. and Tim Hilario, both of Arkansas City, and Matt
Hilario of Mason, Ohio; paternal grandmother, Charlotte Hilario of Arkansas
City; and maternal grandparents, Larry and Gay Viramontes of Wellington.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas
City with the Rev. Jimmy Van Dyke officiating. Burial will be at Riverview
Cemetery in Arkansas City. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.
Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer
Society, in care of the funeral home.

Frieda Mae Smith 1912-2000
Frieda Mae Smith, 88, died Sept. 5 at Great Bend. She was born Feb. 11,
1912, at Knowles, Okla., the daughter of Franklin Verner and Clara Jessie
Berends Morris. She was a 1930 graduate of Hoisington High School. She
married Fred J. Smith Dec. 11, 1929, at Chase. He died Feb. 22, 1982. A
longtime resident of Great Bend, she was a homemaker and nurse's aide at
Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend.
Mrs. Smith was a member of King Memorial United Methodist Church in Great
Bend, United Methodist Women and taught adult Sunday school and Meninger
Bible Class.
Survivors include one son, Michael Smith of Gilmore City, Iowa; three
daughters, Julia Stambaugh of Elk City, Okla., Grace Bell of Great Bend and
Lois Pierson of Claflin; four half-sisters, Joan Patterson of Panama City,
Fla., Faye Ledane of Whitewright, Texas, Myra Cole of Gridley, Calif., and
Kay Booth of Las Vegas, Nev.; 20 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and
six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Fryberger Mortuary in Great Bend
with the Rev. Diana Fox officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until
service time Friday, all at the funeral home. The family will receive
friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested
to the church or Golden Belt Hospice, both in care of the funeral home.

Alfred Scheuerman 1913-2000
RUSSELL - Alfred Scheuerman, 86, died Sept. 4 at Russell Regional Hospital.
He was born Sept. 28, 1913, in Rush County, the son of Gottlieb and
Wilhelmine Jenke Scheuerman. He married Esther E. Karst May 2, 1943, at
Otis. A resident of Russell since 1995, coming from south central Kansas,
he was an oil field pumper.
Scheuerman was a member of United Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Larry Scheuerman of
Bentonville, Ark., and Donald L. Scheuerman of Hoisington; one brother,
Aaron Scheuerman of Otis; and two sisters, Martha O'Kane of San Jose,
Calif., and Leah Hoefs of Sun City, Ariz. He was preceded in death by two
brothers, David Scheuerman and Martin Scheuerman; and five sisters, Amelia
Mosladen, Elizabeth Stenzel, Louise Schugart, Hilda Roberts and Frieda
Tittel.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Keith
Kreitzer officiating. Burial will be at Milberger Cemetery. Friends may
call from 7-9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday at Pohlman's
Mortuary in Russell, and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the
church. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Dixie Darlene Riggs 1936-2000
WICHITA - Dixie Darlene Riggs, 64, died Sept. 2 in Wichita. She was born
March 9, 1936, at Galesburg, the daughter of Cecil H. and Virginia Brewer
Hembree. She was a 1954 graduate of Great Bend High School. She married Jim
Riggs July 19, 1987, at Wichita. A resident of Wichita, coming from Great
Bend, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Scott A. Langrehr of
Augusta; one daughter, Nancy Tandy of Wichita; one stepson, Vernon Riggs of
Wichita; two stepdaughters, Shannon Thompson of Valley Center and Nancy Lyn
Borer of Orlando, Fla.; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by one sister, Joann Lanterman.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in
Valley Center with the Rev. Dr. J. Tal Tittsworth officiating. The body
will be cremated. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. today at Baker Funeral
Home in Valley Center.

Thelma Lucille Wood 1907-2000
Thelma Lucille Wood, 93, died Sept. 3 at Central Kansas Medical Center,
Long Term Care in Ellinwood. She was born March 30, 1907, at Winfield, the
daughter of William Joseph and Mary Alice Hartsook Poor. She married Frank
J. Wood April 2, 1924, at Winfield. He died Aug. 4, 1957. A resident of
Great Bend since 1954, coming from Fairfax, Okla., she was owner and
president of Wood Petroleum Inc., in Great Bend.
Mrs. Wood was a member of Episcopal Church and Order of the Eastern Star,
both of Great Bend.
Survivors include her longtime companion, Kathleen Kimpler of Great Bend.
A private memorial service will be held. Memorials are suggested to Brit
Spaugh Zoo or Great Bend Humane Society, both in care of Bryant-Christians
Funeral Home in Great Bend.

Frances E. 'Barney' Chiles 1909-2000
HOLYROOD - Frances E. "Barney" Chiles, 91, died Sept. 3 at Wilson Nursing
Center. She was born March 4, 1909, at Natoma, the daughter of Samuel
Thomas and Cora Blanche Alexander Barons. She was a graduate of Lyons High
School. She married James T. Chiles Dec. 16, 1945, at Denver, Colo. He died
July 1, 1952. A resident of Wilson since 1996, coming from Holyrood and
Denver, she was an office manager for Western Belfour in Denver and a
partner with her husband in promotional advertising.
Mrs. Chiles was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, St. Peter Lutheran
Church Ladies Aid and American Legion Auxiliary, all in Holyrood.
Survivors include one stepson, James T. Chiles Jr. of Garland, Texas. She
was preceded in death by three brothers, Reginald Barons, Eldred Barons and
John Barons; and two sisters, Calista Wamhoff and Dorothy Wentworth.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. John
Sharp officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lyons cemetery in
Lyons. Memorials are suggested to the church or Wilson Nursing Center, both
in care of the Parsons Funeral Home in Ellsworth.
