Gladys Pauline Brown 1910-2000
GARDEN CITY - Gladys Pauline Brown, 89, died Sept. 28 at Terrace Garden
Care Center in Garden City. She was born Oct. 20, 1910, in Timken, the
daughter of John J. and Anna Budde Wilhelm. She married Robert Gleeson
Brown Jan. 29, 1936, in Pratt. He died Jan. 6, 1996. A resident of Garden
City since 1983, coming from Kalvesta, she was a homemaker and a cook for
many years at Theoni School in Finney County.
Mrs. Brown was a member of First United Methodist Church in Garden City,
Cheerful Workers Club and Playmor Card Club, both of Kalvesta.
Survivors include one daughter, Marcille M. Wilke of Garden City; one
sister, Dorothy Koochel of Great Bend; six grandchildren; and 12
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Mark Gleeson
Brown; one daughter, Phylilis Gladys Brown; one brother, Virgil Wilhelm;
and one sister, Selma Dyer.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Robert Cousins
officiating. Burial will be at Valley View cemetery in Garden City. Friends
may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 9-11 a.m. Monday at Garnand
Funeral Home in Garden City. Memorials are suggested to the church or
Make-a-Wish Foundation, both in care of the funeral home.

Thelma Lucile Ulrey 1905-2000
LARNED - Thelma Lucile Ulrey, 95, died Nov. 28 at Forum Health Care Center in Overland Park. She was born June 22, 1905, in Pawnee County, the daughter of Henry F. and Amelia Miller Barstow. She married Lester E. Ulrey Dec. 13, 1950. He died Dec. 26, 1980. A longtime resident of Flagstaff, Ariz., she was a realtor. Survivors include one sister, Hazel Holman of Overland Park. She was preceded in death by eight brothers, Bertle Barstow, Franklin Barstow, Harold Barstow, Howard Barstow, Paul Barstow, Waldo Barstow, Chesley Barstow and Alton Barstow; and three sisters, Theresa Gleason, Edna Doll and Helen Umberger. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned with the Rev. Charles Grant officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park cemetery in St. John. Friends may call from 6-8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to service time Friday at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to donor?s choice, in care of the mortuary. Nov. 30, 2000

Joe E. Ney Sr. 1910-2000
HANSTON - Joe E. Ney Sr., 89, died Nov. 28 at his home in Hanston. He was born Dec. 24, 1910, at Odin, the son of Emil and Anna Dimmer Ney. He married Pearl Cure Aug. 20, 1941, in Fowler. She died Nov. 13, 1993. A lifetime resident of Hanston, he was a farmer and stockman. Ney was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, a 70-year member of Knights of Columbus and a past school board member, all of Hanston. Survivors include four sons, Joe Ney and John Ney, both of Hanston, Jim Ney of Olathe and Jerry Ney of Overland Park; four daughters, Cecilia Amend and Connie Ragsdale, both of Oklahoma City, Okla., Cathy Strecker of Colwich and Cynthia Berry of Wichita; four sisters, Dorothy Landry of Cheyenne Wells, Colo., Sister Mary Christian of Great Bend, Marie Isenbart of Alva, Okla., and Lucille Jarus of Ellsworth; 25 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Ney; and one grandson. Vigil will be at 7:30 tonight followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Jetmore. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hanston with the Rev. Bob Schremmer officiating. Friends may call until 6:30 tonight at Beckwith Funeral Home in Jetmore. Burial will be at St. Anthony Catholic Church cemetery in Hanston. Memorials are suggested to the Catholic Social Service, Birthright and Dominican Sisters, all in care of the funeral home. Howard Bangerter 1913-2000
Howard Bangerter, 87, died Nov. 27 at Hays Medical Center, St. Anthony
Campus in Hays. He was born April 10, 1913, in Blackwell, Okla., the son of
Jacob John and Lena Weber Bangerter. He married Betty Lou Alderson Sept.
25, 1938, in Bushton. A resident of Great Bend since 1995, coming from
Hoisington, he was owner of Howard's Furniture in Hoisington.
Bangerter was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church in Great Bend, Veteran
of Foreign Wars Post 7428, American Legion 286, 50-year member of Masonic
Lodge 331, AF&AM, all of Hoisington, Scottish Rite and Isis Shrine. He was
a U.S. Army Navy Transportation Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Barbara Clark of
Wichita; two sisters, Berdena Sellens of Hoisington and Isabelle Rose of
Hutchinson; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers,
Albert Bangerter and Harold Bangerter, four sisters, infant Alberta
Bangerter, Maybelle Ruse, Pearl Bartles and Bertha Lenk.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Dr. Tom
Keith officiating. Burial will be at the Hoisington Cemetery. Masonic
graveside rites by Masonic Lodge AF&AM 331. Friends may call from 1-8
tonight and from 9-11:30 a.m. Thursday, all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home
in Hoisington. Family will receive friends from 4-6 tonight at the funeral
home. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Ardis 'Jean' Martinez 1942-2000
DENVER, Colo. - Ardis "Jean" Martinez, 57, died Nov. 18 at her home in
Denver. She was born Dec. 23, 1942, in Leon, Iowa, the daughter of Max and
Naomi Ruth Monday Hill. She married Pat Martinez May 4, 1984, in Denver. A
resident of Denver for 18 years, she was a retired nurses aide.
Mrs. Martinez was a member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Ronnie Rubia of Denver
and Robert Rubia of Wichita; one daughter, Rhonda Pettijohn of Great Bend;
one step-son, Pat Martinez Jr. of Seattle, Wash.; two step-daughters, Pearl
and Gloria, both of Denver; her parents of Ellinwood; four brothers, Roger
Hill and Warren Hill of Denver, Keith Hill of Sedgwich and Steve Hill of
Ellinwood; and four grandchildren.
Funeral was at Trevino Chapel in Denver Nov. 24. Memorials are suggested to
the American Heart Association or St. Judes Hospital, both in care of
Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood.

Margaret Roberta Hoyt Muth 1912-2000
LYONS - Margaret Roberta Hoyt Muth, 88, died Nov. 28 at Lyons District
Hospital in Lyons. She was born March 16, 1912, in Saxman, the daughter of
Adelbert Eldridge and Leora Smith Hoyt. She graduated from Lyons High
School in 1930. She married Paul A. Muth Aug. 11, 1935, in Chase. He died
Jan. 17, 1984. A resident of Lyons, coming from Bushton and McPherson, she
was a former grocery store owner, a Newstand/Trailways Bus Depot Agent and
a caregiver.
Mrs. Muth was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, United
Methodist Women, choir member and Ebenezer Busy Bees, all of Lyons.
Survivors include three sons, Alan Muth of Longmont, Colo., Grant Muth of
Hot Springs, Ark., and Mike Muth of Derby; one sister, Virginia Lee Hoyt
Monroe of Lyons; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by three sons, Lee Muth, Jimmy Muth and Tracey Muth; an
infant daughter; and one brother, Frank S. Hoyt.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church in Lyons with the Rev.
Janet Weathersbee. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Friends may
call from 2-7 p.m. Friday at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons. Memorials are
suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Fred E. Morgan 1917-2000
WICHITA - Fred E. Morgan, 83, died Nov. 28. He was a retired farmer and
truck driver.
Survivors include his wife, Valera, of the home; four sons, Fred R. Morgan
of Hillsboro, Carl D. Morgan and Howard W. Morgan, both of Canton, and
Terry B. Morgan of El Dorado; four brothers, Gary Morgan of Ulysses, Truman
Morgan of Apache Junction, Ariz., Dick Morgan of Russell and Floyd Morgan
of Syracuse; three sisters, Mary Burris of Denver, Colo., Wanda Lowther of
Williamsburg, Va., and Marjorie Owsley of Ponca City, Okla.; nine
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. (mountain time) Friday at the Methodist
Church in Syracuse. Memorials may be sent to P.O. Box 502, Canton, KS 67428.

Howard Bangerter, 87, died Nov. 27 at Hays Medical Center. He was born
April 10, 1913.
Survivors and funeral arrangements will be announced by Nicholson-Ricke
Funeral Home in Hoisington.

Hollis G. Bowden 1912-2000
ST. JOHN - Hollis G. Bowden, 88, died Nov. 22 at Stafford District Hospital
in Stafford. He was born Sept. 1, 1912, in Cookeville, Tenn., the son of
Floyd and Carolyn Bowden. He graduated from Antrim High School. He married
Lois Iona Bowden Sept. 2, 1933, in Stafford County. She died March 24,
1995. A lifetime resident of the Antrim community, he was a farmer,
stockman, rough neck for Skelly Oil, electrician and water well driller.
Bowden was a member of Antrim United Methodist Church of rural Stafford
County and IOOF Lodge of Byers.
Survivors include one son, Byron Winston Bowden of Wichita; one daughter,
Barbara N. King of Haysville; one brother, Milton Bowden of St. John; two
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
one brother, Everret Bowden; and one sister, Elsie Snyder.
Funeral was at the church in rural Stafford. Burial was at Fairview Park
Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of Minnis Chapel
Inc.

Lillian LaVerne Fink 1917-2000
LARNED - Lillian LaVerne Fink, 83, died Nov. 24, at Via Christi, St.
Francis in Wichita. She was born Oct. 23, 1917, in Stafford, the daughter
of John and Anna Witt Allen. She married Ralph A. Fink May 29, 1955, in
Stafford. A resident of Larned since 1961, coming from Stafford, Hutchinson
and Wichita, she was a nurse.
Mrs. Fink was a member of First Bible Baptist Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include her husband of the home; one daughter, Rita K. Hayes of
Great Bend; three sisters, Irene Wilson of Stafford, Adel Kail of Tribune
and Elsie Pound of St. John; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren;
and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John
Allen, Jr. and Edgar Allen; two sisters, Viola Allen and Valettia Roe and
one grandchild.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Bryant-Christians Chapel in Great
Bend with the Rev. Robert Morris officiating. Burial will be at the
Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9
p.m. Tuesday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and from 9 a.m. to service
time Thursday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the
First Bible Baptist Church, in care of the funeral home.

Blanche L. Morgan Schrott 1910-2000
NEKOMA - Blanche L. Morgan Schrott, 90, died Nov. 21 at Rush County Nursing
Home in La Crosse. She was born Jan. 26, 1910, in Nekoma, the daughter of
Friend and Myrtle Stephens Morgan. She married Joseph Edward Schrott May
18, 1930, in La Crosse. He preceded her in death. A lifetime resident of
Rush County, she was a grocery store clerk.
Mrs. Schrott was of Christian faith and a member of Bazine Senior Center in
Bazine .
Survivors include one son, Buddie Schrott of Rush Center; one daughter,
Joyce Wittman of Meade; one sister, Ethel Boese of La Crosse; eight
grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
one son, Charles Schrott; two brothers, Friend Morgan Jr. and a infant
brother; three sisters, Verna Scheuerman, Aliyce Quesenbury and Clara
Grahm; and one grandson, Mark Schrott.
Funeral was Saturday at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse with the Rev.
Kathy Bannister officiating. Burial was at Nekoma Union Township Cemetery
in Nekoma. Memorials are suggested to Walnut Valley Senior Center or Rush
County Nursing Home, in care of the funeral home.
