NORTH PLATTE, Neb. - James Welch Cass Jr., 51, died Dec. 30 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte. He was born April 14, 1949, at Hays, the son of James Welch and Clara Stipes Cass. He was a graduate of Oakley High School and attended Colby Community College. A resident of North Platte for 10 years, coming from Gove County, he was a rancher and assisted others through counseling and rehabilitation. Cass was a member of United Methodist Church in Oakley. Survivors include two sisters, Jeanette A. Shirer of Hoisington and Mary Helen Munk of Gove. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jimmy Lee Lewellen. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hoisington cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Flanders officiating. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Memorials are suggested to the church or Callahan Cancer Center of North Platte, both in care of the funeral home. Jan. 1, 2001

Constance Irene Benoit 1932-2000
Constance Irene Benoit, 68, died Dec. 31 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. She was born Aug. 20, 1932, at Leavenworth, the daughter of Eddie H. and Emma Moxter Benoit. She was a longtime resident of Great Bend. Miss Benoit was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington. Survivors include two brothers, James Edward Benoit of Larned and Robert Lee Benoit of Littleton, Colo. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend with the Rev. Warren Stecklein officiating. Inurnment will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 8-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Great Bend Family Mortuary. Memorials are suggested to Patient Assistance Fund at Hoisington Rehabilitation Center, in care of the mortuary. Jan. 1, 2001

Ruth Elaine Wikoff Mohr 1913-2000
Ruth Elaine Wikoff Mohr, 87, stepped into eternal glory Dec. 31 at Heston. She was born June 25, 1913, at Lyons, the daughter of Earnest L. and Deora Mildred Cupp Wikoff. She was a graduate of Wichita High School. She married Earl James Mohr March 13, 1943, at Great Bend. He died July 30, 1977. She was a bookkeeper for Great Bend City Engineers office for 14 years. Mrs. Mohr was a member of First Southern Baptist Church and enjoyed her family, friends and flowers. Survivors include three sons, Darrell Mohr of Hattiesburg, Miss., Terry Mohr of Nevada City, Calif., and Bradley Mohr of Lenexa; three daughters, Rhea Jeanne McFarland of Oskaloosa, Barbara Wellbrack of Garnett and Darlene Kelly of Newton; two brothers, Eldred Wikoff and Richard Wikoff, both of Mercedes, Texas; one sister, Rhea Howard of Rio Rancho, N.M.; and 15 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Jack Wikoff; and one sister, Ruby Best. The family invites friends to join in celebrating Mrs. Mohr's journey home at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fryberger Mortuary in Great Bend. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the mortuary. Jan. 1, 2001

Arthur Carl Schneider 1915-2000
PRESTON - Arthur Carl Schneider, 85, died Dec. 30 at Kiowa County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg. He was born March 27, 1915, at Albert, the son of Carl W. and Martha Tammen Schneider. He married Marie Emma Schwertfeger Aug. 31, 1941, at Natrona. She died Dec. 21, 1993. A resident of Preston, he was a retired farmer, worked for Beechcraft in Wichita and was an assistant manager at Safeway Grocery in Pratt. Schneider was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Natrona. Survivors include one son, Mark Schneider of Preston; and two sisters, Dolores Schneider and Isabella Nuss, both of Great Bend. He was preceded in death by one adopted daughter, Gayle; and one sister, Eleanor Nuss. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Michael L. Schotte officiating. Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Comanche cemetery in Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to the church or Lutheran Social Services, both in care of Larrison Mortuary in Pratt. Jan. 1, 2001

Roy Duane Sinclair 1938-2000
LAWRENCE - Roy Duane Sinclair, 62, died Dec. 29 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was born Aug. 23, 1938, in Hodgeman County, the son of Francis J. and Elma E. Ehrlich Sinclair. He was a 1958 graduate of Dodge City High School. He received his Chartered Life Underwriters diploma from American College in 1980. He married Norva Crider Sept. 2, 1957, at Dodge City. A resident of Lawrence, he was an insurance agent for Farm Bureau Insurance Agency from 1959 until his retirement in 1997. Sinclair was a member of Southside Church of Christ in Lawrence. He was a deacon at Church of Christ in Great Bend and a member and past president of Barton County Community College Booster Club and Great Bend High School Booster Club. He received several annual awards, including Outstanding Agency and Top Life Agent, won numerous All Star and All American contests and was past president of Kansas Farm Bureau Agents Association. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Randy Sinclair of Olathe, Darrin Sinclair of Great Bend, Jason Sinclair of Lawrence and Jared Sinclair of Paola; one daughter, Stephanie Sayre of Lawrence; one brother, Leonard Sinclair of Hutchinson; two sisters, Bettie Burns of Hutchinson and Dorothy Ziesch of Hanston and 13 grandchildren. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will be at Memorial Park cemetery in Lawrence. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to Herald of Truth, Southside Church of Christ or Kansas University Medical Center Oncology Department, all in care of the mortuary. Jan. 1, 2001

Raymond C. Rodie 1918-2000
CONCORDIA - Raymond C. Rodie, 82, died Dec. 30 at Cloud County Health Center in Concordia. He was born Sept. 26, 1918, south of Schaffer, the son of Peter and Mollie Drieth Rodie. He married Irene Ellis June 8, 1947, at Otis Lutheran Church. She preceded him in death. A resident of Concordia, he was employed by John Deere of La Crosse and La Crosse Police Department, where he retired as police chief in 1983. Rodie was a member of First Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3147, both of La Crosse. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II with the Third Army Division in Europe. He received an honorable discharge Jan. 8, 1945, and was awarded two Bronze Stars for bravery, a WW II Victory Ribbon, an EAME Theatre Ribbon, an American Theatre Ribbon, a Good Conduct Medal and a Defensive Ribbon. Survivors include two sons, Randy Rodie of Concordia and Don Rodie of Lovington, N.M.; two brothers, Norman Rodie of Russell and Walter Rodie of Colorado Springs, Colo., six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Albert; and one sister, Ida. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Maurice Schaus officiating. Burial will be at La Crosse cemetery with La Crosse Police Department presenting honors and full military rites by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call until 8 tonight at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse. Family will receive friends from 4-6 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Raymond C. Rodie Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home. Jan. 1, 2001

Julia Ann Zamrzla 1912-2000
WILSON - Julia Ann Zamrzla, 88, died Dec. 29 at Wilson Nursing Center. She was born June 20, 1912, at Wilson, the daughter of James E. and JoHanna Driscoll Zamrzla. A lifetime resident of Wilson, she was a teacher until her retirement in 1977. Miss Zamrzla was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella and Altar Society, all of Wilson. She was also a member of National, State and County Teacher's Associations. Survivors include one brother, Ernest "Ike" Zamrzla of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and two sisters, Georgianna Vopat of Plainville and Margaret Soukup of Wilson. She was preceded in death by four brothersand two sisters. Parish vigil will be at 7 tonight at Foster Mortuary in Wilson. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Jerome Morgan officiating. Friends may call until 8 tonight at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the mortuary. Jan. 1, 2001

Anna Stegman 1908-2001
PFEIFER - Anna Stegman, 92, died Feb. 27 at her daughter's home in Victoria. She was born April 15, 1908, near Emmeram, the daughter of Andrew and Maria Storm Dinkel. She married Joseph G. Stegman Aug. 18, 1931, in Pfeifer. He died Feb. 3, 1970. A resident of Pfeifer, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Stegman was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Victoria and a former member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and Holy Cross Christian Mothers. Survivors include one son, Arthur Stegman of the home; two daughters, Mary Ann Adams of Salina and Ethel Younger of Victoria; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Nick Dinkel and Rich Dinkel; one sister; Amelia "Molly" Stegman; and one half-brother, Fred Dinkel. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Cline's Mortuary in Victoria. Daughters of Isabella rosary will be 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church with the Revs. Frank X. Grinko, Felix Petrovsky, Emil Dinkel and John Lager. Burial will be at Holy Cross cemetery in Pfeifer. Friends may call from 3-9 p.m. Thursday and from 8:30-9:45 a.m. Friday at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the church, the Capuchin Province of MidAmerica, Hospice of Hays Medical Center or Masses, all in care of the mortuary. Feb. 28, 2001

Mildred Louise Soeken 1914-2000
CHASE - Mildred Louise Soeken, 86, died Dec. 16 at Rock Island, Ill. She was born May 8, 1914, in Macksville, the daughter of Arthur and Ida Schneider Voight. She married Edward J. Soeken Oct. 9, 1938. He died Aug. 26, 1983. A resident of Rock Island, coming from Chase, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Soeken was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Rock Island and was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church of Lyons. Survivors include one son, Vernon Soeken of Rock Island; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Voight; and one sister, Ruby Knop. Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church in Lyons with the Rev. Calvin L'Heureux officiating. Memorials are suggested to Grace Lutheran Church, in care of Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons. Feb. 28, 2001

Gerald F. 'Gump' Gumbir 1937-2001
POTTER - Gerald F. "Gump" Gumbir, 63, died Feb. 24 at his home in Potter. He was born June 2, 1937, in Great Bend, the son of William F. and Edith May Rose Gumbir. He married Janice "Jan" F. Caine Aug. 22, 1958, in Wichita. A resident of Potter for 25 years, he worked for Curley's for 45 years and was serving as vice president for the company. Gumbir was a member of St. Hilda's Episcopal Church in Kimball and the Potter Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Kevin L. Gumbir of Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Jodie Nienhuser of Peetz, Colo., and Jennifer Lee Ann Ingwersen of Brainard, Neb.; his mother of Reading, Calif.; two brothers, Jim Eastman and Bob Eastman, both of California; one sister, Kathy Schlosser of California; stepmother, Beatrice Gumbir of Bakersfield, Calif.; and six grandchildren. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball with the Rev. Ed Hunzeker officiating. Cremation will take place. Friends may call until 8 tonight with the family receiving friends from 7-8 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Jerry Gumbir Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home. Harry H. Enright 1914-2001
HAYS - Harry H. Enright, 86, died Feb. 24 at Stonybrook Retirement Community in Manhattan. He was born July 2, 1914, in Fredonia, the son of William and Nellie Blevins Enright. He graduated from Hays High School and attended Fort Hays State University. He married Sylvia B. Plymire Jan. 21, 1948, in Ellinwood. She died Nov. 11, 1980. A resident of Hays, he was gauger for Service Pipeline in Hays for 25 years. Enright was a member of Liberty Fellowship Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, all of Hays. Survivors include three sons, Terry Enright of Longmont, Colo., Randy Enright of Denver, Colo., and Monte Enright of Manhattan; one daughter, Kathy Enright of California; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Ray Enright, John Enright, Ralph Enright, Paul Enright and Lester Enright; and by four sisters, Vera Enright, Geneva Enright, Nellie Enright and Florine Enright. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Revs. William Miller and Steve Dinkel officiating. Burial will be at Mount Allen cemetery in Hays with graveside military honors by the Hays American Legion. Friends may call from 6:30-8 tonight and from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at Brock's North Hill Chapel in Hays. Eldon D. Schneider 1945-2001
OVERLAND PARK - Eldon D. Schneider, 55, died Feb. 24 at his home in Overland Park from cancer. He was born June 22, 1945, in Rush County, the son of Henry and Helen Appel Schneider. He married Donita Spiker Payne June 13, 1981, in Overland Park. A resident of Overland Park for 25 years, coming from Wichita, he was an accountant. Schneider was a member of the board of directors of Insurant National Advisory Council and past president of Tanglewood Lake Owners Association, board of directors. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Jeff Payne of Sabetha; one daughter, Heather Payne of Overland Park; one brother, Larry Schneider of La Crosse; two sisters, Emma Curnette of Garden City and Donna Luft of Bison; and two grandchildren. Prayer service will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Overland Park. Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church with the Revs. Michael Peck and Maurice Schaus officiating. Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Overland Park, First Lutheran Church of La Crosse or Sisters Servants of Mary, all in care of Great Bend Family Mortuary. Feb. 27, 2001

Ruth Elizabeth Janke 1921-2001
McCRACKEN - Ruth Elizabeth Janke, 80, died Feb. 25 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born Jan. 13, 1921, in eastern Kansas, the daughter of David and Margaret Begbie Moore. She married Alvin Janke Aug. 21, 1940, in Great Bend. A resident of McCracken, she was a homemaker and bookkeeper for the family business. Mrs. Janke was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, St. Luke's Lutheran Sunday School, all in Bazine; Town and Country Ladies Club and Extension Homemakers Unit, both of Rush County; and McCracken Library Board of McCracken. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Ivan Janke of McCracken; one daughter, Peggy Allen of Stanwood, Wash.; one brother, Hugh Moore of Great Falls, Mont.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church in Bazine with the Rev. Randall Jahnke officiating. Burial will be at McCracken Cemetery. Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Fitzgerald Funeral Home in Ness City and 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Family will greet friends from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to McCracken Library or Pastoral Educational Fund for LCMS, in care of the funeral home. Feb. 27, 2001
