Glen Carvin McDermed 1937-2001
CAREFREE, Ariz. - Glen Carvin McDermed, 63, died at home Feb. 3, 2001. He was born Dec. 19, 1937, in Lyons. He is the son of Carvin N. McDermed and Wilma Lenora Kent McDermed. Glen lived in the Phoenix, Scottsdale area from 1959 to 1973, and he retired to Carefree in 1993. After graduation from the University of Kansas, he became an engineer for the state of Arizona. The bulk of his career was with IBM. He then moved to an analyst position with Gartner Group. He was an active board member of the Canyon State Naturists. He is survived by five children, Scott Allen of Bend, Ore., Monte Lee of Chapel Hill, N.C., Diane Marie of Apex, N.C., Courtney Bryn of Tucson, Ariz., and Elliott Kent of Lawrence; one brother, Lyle Kent of Corsicana, Texas; and three grandchildren. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather. His interests included camping and woodworking. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Burial arrangements in Geneseo are pending. Feb. 8, 2001

Willis C. Mohr 1914-2001
ALBERT - Willis C. Mohr, 86, died Feb. 5 at Rush County Nursing Home in La Crosse. He was born Feb. 11, 1914, in Otis, the son of Emanuel M. and Mollie Winters Mohr. He married J. Wilhelmine Kunze Nov. 5, 1935, in Enterprise. A lifetime resident of Rush County, he was a retired farmer. Mohr was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church in La Crosse. Survivors include four sons, Harold E. Mohr of Abilene, Everett L. Mohr of Loma Linda, Calif., Theodore W. Mohr of Redlands, Calif., and Robert J. Mohr of Otis; two daughters, Carletta W. Bender and Felicitas Dawson, both of Loma Linda; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Esther Heiser and Eva Herbel. Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Ed Jumper officiating. Burial will be at Shaffer S.D.A. cemetery in Albert. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, both at the Morell Funeral Home in Larned. Memorials are suggested to the Enterprise Academy Students Scholarship Fund or the Quiet Hour India Project, both in care of the funeral home. Feb. 8, 2001

Delores Jean Orth 1941-2001
TIPTON, Iowa - Delores Jean Orth, 59, died Jan. 14 at the University of Iowa Hospital. She was born April 13, 1941, in Ellsworth, the daughter of Cecil and Gertrude Stratman Newsome. She married Norman Orth March 11, 1962, in Hoisington. A resident of Tipton, she was a certified nursing assistant and a homemaker. Mrs. Orth was a member of Morrison McFadden Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 3111 in Great Bend. Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Galen Orth of Mechanicsville, Iowa and Billy Orth of Tipton; two daughters, Kalin Cook of Towner, Colo., and Gayla Ross of Tipton; her mother of Great Bend; one brother, Harold Newsome of York, Neb.; two sisters, Barbara Randolph of Salina and Nancy Schukman of Casper, Wyo.; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Todd Campbell and Brad Campbell; one daughter, Denise Orth; one brother, Norman Newsome; and one grandson, Cody Orth. Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 17 in the chapel of the Fry Funeral Home in Tipton with the Rev. Eugene Benda officiating. Burial will be at the Rose Hill cemetery in Mechanicsville. K. Margaret Fabrizius 1896-2001
WAKEENEY - K. Margaret Fabrizius, 104, died Feb. 6 at Trego County Lemke Memorial Long Term Care in WaKeeney. She was born Oct. 4, 1896, in Saratov, Russia, the daughter of David and Mary Elizabeth Dietz Deines. She married John George Fabrizius Dec. 26, 1917, in Trego Center. He died Sept. 26, 1984. She came to the United States in 1900, and settled in the Russell area. A resident of WaKeeney, coming from Minot, N.D., and Denver, Colo., she was a homemaker. Mrs. Fabrizius was a member of Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Aurora, Colo. Survivors include five sons, Argus Fabrizius of WaKeeney, Arthur Fabrizius of Hutchinson, Paul Fabrizius of Aurora, George Fabrizius of Carson City, Nev., and Richard Fabrizius of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four daughters, Olga Walker of Minot, Hulda Dorsch of Bird City, Edna Holmburg of Ellis and Lydia Frank of Pueblo, Colo.; 32 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Herman Fabrizius; five brothers, David Fabrizius, Solomon Fabrizius, Fred Fabrizius, George Fabrizius and Henry Fabrizius; one sister, Lydia Deines; one grandson, Ed Dorsch; and one great-granddaughter, Alicia Dorsch. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church in Aurora with the Rev. Mark Voss officiating. Burial will be at Fairmont cemetery in Aurora. Friends may call Sunday at Olinger Mortuary in Aurora. Raymond John Sramek, Sr. 1925-2001
LA CROSSE - Raymond John Sramek, Sr., 76, died Feb. 5 at Hays Medical Center. He was born Jan. 2, 1925, in Rawlins County, the son of Frank Sr. and Frances M. Pitner Sramek. He married Alice Heble. She died. A resident of La Crosse for 39 years, he was a automotive mechanic. After his retirement, he was a driver for Rush County Public Transportation. Sramek was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, in La Crosse. Survivors include six sons, Marshall R. Sramel of Des Moines, Iowa, Kerwin A. Sramek, Joe Sramek and Rodney D. Sramek, all of La Crosse, David L. Sramek of Wichita and Raymond J. Sramek, Jr. of Overland Park; seven daughters, Melinda J. Adib of Tempe, Ariz., Sarah L. Duffy of Salina, Shelia A. Smith of Geneseo, Vanessa L. Dunback of Wamego, Nyla J. Smith of Topeka, Jill M. Postier of Wichita and Michelle D. Basgall of La Crosse; three sisters, Lula B. Balik of Hawthorne, Calif., Frances R. Sis of Belleville and Barbara J. Snodgrass of Atwood; and 19 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph F. Sramek, Louis Sramek, William Sramek and Robert F. Sramek; two sisters, Eleanora F. Sis and Jo Ann M. Sramek; three half brothers, Vaolav J. Sramek, Frank T. Sramek and Anton J. Sramek; two half sisters, Mary A. Lorens and Agnes Eickhoff. Rosary will be at 7 tonight at Janousek Funeral Home om La Crosse. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church in La Crosse. Ella Marie Byer 1918-2001
LARNED - Ella Marie Byer, 82, died Feb. 6 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus in Larned. She was born July 12, 1918, in Kinsley, the daughter of George F. and Pearl Soice Wells. She married Donald L. Byer Dec. 26, 1936, in Cimmaron. He died April 10, 1994. A resident of Larned since 1994, coming from Garfield, she was a homemaker and retired physicatriac aide at Larned State Hospital. Mrs. Byer was of the Christian faith. Survivors include four sons, Donald L. Byer of Fort Worth, Texas, Robert G. Byer of Fort Valley, Ga., Elmer W. Byer of Garfield and Phillip G. Byer of Elk City, Okla.; four daughters, Mary Meier of Pratt, Jane Rutledge of Larned, Kathy Stiles of Garfield and Carla Byrum of Lewis; two brothers, Bill Wells and Jack Wells, both of Grand Junction, Colo.; one sister, Betty Westphal of Kinsley; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two grandsons and one great-grandson. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Wayne cemetery in Lewis with Nancy Mitchell officiating. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, both at Morell Funeral Home in Larned. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Lena Marie Fairchild 1914-2001
LARNED - Lena Marie Fairchild, 86, died Feb. 6 at Healthcare and Living Center in Larned. She was born Nov. 14, 1914, in Pawnee Rock, the daughter of Fred E. and Annie Schmidt Dirks. She married Harry H. Fairchild Sept. 11, 1943, in Pawnee Rock. A longtime resident of Larned, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Fairchild was a member of New Jerusalem Church in Pawnee Rock, Eagles Auxiliary in Great Bend and attended the Christian Church in Larned. Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Steven Fairchild of Hutchinson; one daughter, Annie Marie Boman of Hutchinson; two brothers, Otto Dirks of Dodge City and Curtis Dirks of Burton; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Janice E. McCaslin. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned with the Rev. Dan Lundgren officiating. Burial will be at the Larned Cemetery. Friends may call until 8 tonight, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday, all at the funeral home. George Albert Strobel 1945-2001
LARNED - George Albert Strobel, 56, died Feb. 6 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus, in Great Bend. He was born Jan. 12, 1945, in Great Bend, the son of Virgil Earle and Willetta Theodore "Ted" Reynolds Strobel. He was a 1964 graduate of Great Bend High School and a graduate of Fort Hays State College. He married C. Yvonne McKenzie Aug. 17, 1974, in Great Bend. A resident of Larned since 1973, coming from Great Bend, he was a social worker at Larned State Hospital in Larned. Strobel was a member of the Great Bend City Band. Survivors include his wife of the home; four daughters, Heather Marie Strobel, Tracy Leanne Strobel, Anna Janette Strobel and Lori Michelle Strobel, all of the home; and one brother, Dr. John D. Strobel of Great Bend. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned with the Rev. Jack Singer officiating. Burial will be at Larned Cemetery. Friends may call until 8 tonight, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. until service time Friday, all at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the George A. Strobel Children Scholarship Fund, in care of the mortuary. Feb. 7, 2001

Grace Ivadene Robson 1910-2001
LIVINGSTON, Mt. - Grace Ivadene Robson, 90, died Jan. 31 at Livingston Memorial Hospital. She was born April 2, 1910, near Hartman, Colo., in rural Prowers County, the daughter of Clyde and Dolly MacFarland Flint. She was a 1927 graduate of Holly High School in Holly, Colo. She married George Willard Robson in 1932. He died. A resident of Livingston, coming from Lamar, Colo., and Walsh, Colo., she was a bank secretary, farmed with her husband and owned a bookkeeping and income tax service until her retirement. Mrs. Robson was a member of Walsh United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Walsh Civic Club, Walsh Pinochle Club and longtime member of Walsh Library Board, all in Walsh, Colo. Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Russell of Livingston and Verlea Ross of Hoisington; two sisters, Isabel Turner of Amarillo, Texas, and Myrtle Reedy of Lamar; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sheila; three brothers; and one infant great-grandson. Cremation has taken place. Graveside inurnment will take place at a later date at Hartman cemetery in Hartman, Colo. Memorials are suggested to Walsh Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 206, Walsh, CO 81090. Vivian I. Mostrom 1919-2001
GARFIELD - Vivian I. Mostrom, 81, died Feb. 4, at Village On Lee retirement community in Lawton, Okla. She was born Nov. 13, 1919, in Garfield, the daughter of William Wheeler and Elizabeth Sharon Wynn McDowell. She attended school in Garfield. She attended Emporia State Teacher's College for two years. She married Albert Carl Mostrom, Jr. March 27, 1948, in Denver, Colo. He died Sept. 24, 1995. A resident of Garfield, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Mostrom was a member of the Retired Widows Association in Lawton and attended Fort Sill Old Post Chapel. Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Lyn Underhill of Indianapolis, Ind. and Sharman Wyn Harrison of Lawton; four grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Wesley William McDowell. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned with Nancy Mitchell officiating. Burial will be at the Garfield Cemetery. Friends may call until 8 tonight and until service time Wednesday, at the mortuary. Feb. 6, 2001

Lydia Bender 1920-2001
RUSSELL - Lydia Bender, 80, died Feb. 3 at Russell Regional Hospital. She was born Feb. 29, 1920, at Fort Morgan, Colo., the daughter of Jacob and Anna Marie Kahler Greenwald. She married Leo Bender Oct. 3, 1941, in Gering, Neb. He died Oct. 26, 1972. A longtime resident of Russell, she was a homemaker and a domestic. Mrs. Bender was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Russell, Extension Homemakers Unit and Grey Ladies at Russel Hospital, both of Russell. Survivors include two sons, Leo Bender of Great Bend and John Bender of Virginia Beach, Va.; two daughters, Linda Casper of Russell and Louanna Hanes of Otis; two sisters, Caroline Johnstdon of Pittsburg, Pa., and Esther Ekstien of Eureka, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and four gret-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Pohlman's Memorial Chapel in Russell with the Rev. Henry Hartman officiating. Burial will be at Russell City Cemetery. Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the mortuary. Feb. 6, 2001

HANSTON - Sara Aileen Korf, 80, died Feb. 4 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. She was born Jan. 6, 1921, in Hodgeman County, the daughter of Leslie and Elsie Henry Koontz. She married Vernon C. Korf July 29, 1943, in Hutchinson. He died Feb. 17, 1985. A lifetime resident of Hanston, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Korf was a member of United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Senior Citizen Center, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Library Association and the City Librarian for the Hanston City Library, all of Hanston. Survivors include four sons, Gary Korf, Daryl Korf and Darren Korf, all of Hanston, and Galen Korf of Hays; three daughters, JoAnn Hubin of Hanston, Joyce Noland of Chinle, Ariz. and Gloria Bowersox of Olathe; one brother, Loren Koontz of Hanston; three sisters, Elva Fox of Peoria, Ariz., Muriel Otis of Salina and Ruth Cadwallader of Pendleton, S.C.; 20 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Cleland Koontz and Paul Koontz; three sisters, Iris Stambaugh, Clarice Miller and Alta Lee White.
