Alan E. Karlin 1957-2001
Alan E. Karlin, 43, died Jan. 30 at his home in Great Bend. He was born March 13, 1957, in Hays, the son of Eugene and Thelma Dreher Karlin. He was a 1975 graduate of Thomas More Prep-Marian High School in Hays. A resident of Great Bend, he worked for L-K Wireline and Acid for 26 years as a sales representative and logging engineer. He worked for Rains and Williamson Oil Company Inc. as an operations manager. Karlin was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Great Bend, Kansas Independent Oil and Gas Association, the Oil and Gas Museum and Hall of Fame, Knights of Columbus, Golden Belt Country Club, and a past president of API. Survivors include one son, Matthew Alan Karlin of Great Bend; one daughter, Erika Rae Karlin of Hays; his mother and father of Hays; two brothers, Brian Karlin of Hays and Tom Karlin of Gardner; three sisters, Kathy Boggs and Carol Fieler, both of Schoenchen, and Brenda Thomas of Houston, Texas. Parish vigil will be at 7 tonight, followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hays, with the Rev. Don Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph cemetery in Hays. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 8:30-9:45 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Thomas More Prep-Marian High School, in care of the funeral home. Feb. 1, 2001

George A. Peak 1918-2001
HUTCHINSON - George A. Peak, 82, died Jan. 30 at his home in Hutchinson. He was born Aug. 21, 1918, in Augusta, the son of William James and Lillie Stice Peak. He married Marcketta Tomlinson Mohr March 2, 1971, in Lyons. A resident of Hutchinson since 2000, coming from Lyons, he was a conductor for Missouri Pacific Railroad. Peak was a member of Olivet Baptist Church in Wichita, American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Lyons. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Eva Lou Geiger of Platt City, Mo.; one stepson, Raymond Mohr of Topeka; one stepdaughter, Sandy Moore of Nickerson; two brothers, Ted Peak of La Miranda, Calif., and Andy Peak of Naples, Fla.; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel in Hutchinson, with the Rev. Gerald D. Morris officiating. Graveside services with military rites by Fort Riley Honor Guard will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Alexander Cemetery. Friends may call from until 9 tonight at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to Veterans of Foreign Wars of Lyons, in care of the mortuary. Feb. 1, 2001

Frieda M. Blehm 1911-2001
SMITHVILLE, Mo. - Frieda M. Blehm, 89, died Jan. 27 at Beverly Health Care in Smithville. She was born Oct. 11, 1911, in Russell, the daughter of Alex and Anna Friebus Wallert. She married Henry Blehm May 19, 1932, in Dorrance. He died July 1970. A lifetime resident of Russell, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Blehm was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wilson. Survivors include two daughters, Alice Sanders of Salina and Elain Anspaugh of Smithville; two sisters, Anna Betz of Wilson and Alice Sheridan of Junction City; four brothers, Edwin Wallert of Olathe, Albert Wallert and Leonard Wallert, both of Wilson and Raymond Wallert of Kansas City, Mo.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Jim Wagner officiating. Inurnment will be at the Wilson City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the Foster Mortuary Inc. of Wilson. Feb. 1, 2001

Clarence A. Kirby 1916-2001
LARNED - Clarence A. Kirby, 84, died Jan. 30 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus in Wichita. He was born Dec. 14, 1916, in Osborne, the son of William E. and Mary Frances Snyder Kirby. He married Mable M. Herman May 4, 1941, in Kanopolis. A resident of Larned since 1958, moving to Salina in 2000, he was a retired teacher and principal for USD 495 in Larned. Kirby was a member of Assembly of God Church and a past member of Fort Larned Lions Club, both of Larned. Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Alberta Fitzpatrick of Salina and Clara Schraeder of Larned; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Melvin Kirby; five sisters, Chloe Kirby, Cora Kirby, Nora Kirby, Frances Kirby and a twin, Clara Kirby; and one stepsister, Edna Burgess. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned with the Rev. Richard Martin officiating. Burial will be at the Larned Cemetery. Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral hone. Feb. 1, 2001

Bertha M. Reynolds 1905-2001
LA CROSSE - Bertha M. Reynolds, 95, died March 29 at Rush County Nursing Home in La Crosse. She was born Sept. 21, 1905, in Albert, the daughter of Henry and Love Alkire Cunningham. She graduated from the Rush Center School. She married L.V. Reynolds on May 2, 1922. He died Aug. 12, 1968. A resident of Rush County, she was a homemaker and farmer. Survivors include one daughter, Berniece Stejskal of Timken; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Bill Reynolds and James Reynolds; one daughter, Bernice Reynolds; three brothers, Ernest Cunningham, Richard Cunningham and Raymond Cunningham; and one sister, Ruth Middleton. Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Janousek Funeral Home Chapel in La Crosse with the Rev. Marilyn Christmore officiating. Burial will be at Locust Hill cemetery in Rush Center. Friends may call until 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Rush County Nursing Home or American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home. March 30, 2001

Charles L. Naylor 1930-2001
DENVER, Colo. - Charles L. Naylor, 70, died March 23 at Veterans Administration Hospital in Denver. He was born Aug. 1, 1930, in Dodge City, the son of Talmadge "Spud" and Rose W. Naylor. He was a 1948 graduate of Great Bend High School. He attended Wichita State University. A resident of Denver, coming from Great Bend, he was a bank worker, construction worker and restaurant manager. Naylor was a veteran of the Korean War. He was buried March 27 at Fort Logan Veterans cemetery in Denver. Richard Lloyd Hockmuth 1954-2001
Richard Lloyd Hockmuth, 46, of Great Bend, died March 28 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Oct. 29, 1954, in Hartford, Conn., the son of Dr. Lloyd Norton and Marjorie Gunther Hockmuth. He was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts. He married Darlene Smith Dec. 22, 1990, in Liberty, Mo. A resident of Great Bend, coming from Gladstone, Mo., he was president of American Plastic Machinery Company. Hockmuth was a member of Society of Plastics Engineers and Holder of Gear Patents, president of the Kiowa Gun Club, committee chairman of Fort Zarah Friends of the National Rifle Association, secretary of Mid-America Manufacturing Technology Center and life-time member of the NRA. He was president of Pittsburg State University Advisory Council and secretary/treasurer of Western Kansas Technology Corporation. Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Amanda Sue Hockmuth of Great Bend; his mother, Marjorie Hockmuth of Wallpole, N.H.; and one brother, Robert Paul Hockmuth of Durham, Maine. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Great Bend Family Mortuary with the Rev. Kevin Baxter officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the mortuary. March 29, 2001

Kenneth L. Kuhn 1928-2001
ST. JOHN - Kenneth L. Kuhn, 72, died March 27 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Oct. 9, 1928, at Larned, the son of William O. and Icie Barnett Kuhn. He married Judith A. Bidleman June 21, 1948, in Windhorst. A resident of Kinsley, he was a farmer and rancher. Kuhn was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7349, both of Kinsley. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Kenneth L. Kuhn Jr. of Joplin, Mo., and Scott A. Kuhn of Kinsley; one sister, Myrtle Fisher of Kinsley; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at McKillip Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Kinsley with the Rev. Andrew Owen officiating. Burial will be at Hillside cemetery in Kinsley. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Stafford County Home Health or Stafford County Emergency Medical Technicians, both in care of the funeral home. March 29, 2001

Michael Lewis Cannon 1955-2001
Michael Lewis Cannon, 45, of Great Bend, died March 27 in a traffic accident on K-96 near Albert. He was born Aug. 29, 1955, in Great Bend, the son of Manford G. and Ruth M. Borne Cannon. A resident of Great Bend, he was a journeyman machinist. Survivors include his mother of Great Bend; three brothers, Dennis M. Cannon of Hoisington, Daniel G. Cannon and Joe Cannon, both of Great Bend; and one sister, Janet Baker of Ozark, Mo. Memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend with the Rev. Angel Dy officiating. The body was cremated. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Great Bend Humane Society, in care of the funeral home. March 29, 2001

Milo C. Hamilton 1914-2001
ST. JOHN - Milo C. Hamilton, 87, died March 27 at Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Minneapolis. He was born Feb. 5, 1914, in St. John, the son of Charles and Mamie Hamilton. He married Ida Ruth Watson on March 19, 1932, in Noble, Mo. She preceded him in death. A resident of St. John, he was a farmer and custodian for St. John schools. Hamilton was a member of First Christian Church and Community Fellowship Church, both of St. John. Survivors include four daughters, Betty Lu Shuler of Littleton, Colo., Bonnie Ann Hunsicker of Murfreesboro, N.C., Vicki Sue Lance of Minneapolis and Anita Kay Bross of Cincinnati, Ohio; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Elmer Hamilton; and two sisters, Florence Edison and Erma Southard. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Minnis Chapel in St. John with the Rev. Ron Miller officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to Good Samaritan Nursing Center, in care of the funeral chapel. March 29, 2001

Jerald Hazen 'Bill' Bennett 1913-2001
HUTCHINSON - Jerald Hazen 'Bill' Bennett, 87, died March 28 at Hutchinson Hospital. He was born June 25, 1913, in Bentley, the son of Claude Ira and Grace Black Bennett. He was a graduate of Bentley High School. He married Elmira U. Woolery on July 9, 1937, in Wichita. A resident of Hutchinson, coming from Hoisington and Tahlequah, Okla., he was a head roustabout for Conoco Oil Company. Bennett was a member of the Masonic Lodge AF and AM of Valley Center. Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Dee Ann Linsner of Hoisington and Ila Rae Higgins of Wichita; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Vivian Sage. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel in Hutchinson with the Rev. Richard F. Stuchlik officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Valley cemetery in Bentley. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the Great Bend Humane Society in care of the mortuary. McCRACKEN - Mike Moran, 43, died Monday at his home in McCracken. He was born June 7, 1957, in Hays, the son of Vincent Martin "Vick" and Marjorie Lee "Jack" Sloan Moran. He was a 1975 graduate of McCracken High School. A resident of Rush County, he was a farm laborer. Moran was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in McCracken. Survivors include two brothers, Paul Moran of Alexander and Thomas Moran of McCracken; six sisters, Rosemary Kopp of Fairview, Pat Lohrey, Kathleen Moran and Jane Oborny, all of La Crosse, Betty Burkhart of Wright, and Susan Moran of Lee's Summit, Mo. Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Benjamin Martin officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic cemetery in McCracken. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 9-9:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to McCracken Rodeo Association or McCracken Emergency Medical Services, both in care of the funeral home. March 29, 2001

Dorothy I. Stoppel 1922-2001
WILSON -- Dorothy I Stoppel, 78, died March 27, at Wilson Nursing Center. She was born July 20, 1922, in Wilson, the daughter of Christian J. and Mary Gephart Stoppel. A resident of Wilson, she was a screen-print operator for Eschbaugh Advertising of Wilson. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wilson. Survivors include one nephew, David Stoppel of Wilson; and one niece, Nancy King of Phoenix, Ariz. She was preceded in death by one brother, Ray Stoppel; and one sister, Elsie Sanders. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Jim Wagner officiating. Burial will be Wilson City Cemetery. Friends may call until 8 tonight and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Foster Mortuary in Wilson. Memorials are suggested to the church or the doner's choice, both in care of the mortuary. March 28, 2001
