STAFFORD - Lucille Mills, 88, died March 24 at Stafford District Hospital. She was born Oct. 28, 1912, in Stafford County, the daughter of Ellsworth Leroy and Mattie Birdie Krey Bagley. She graduated from Stafford High School and attend Wichita Business College and nursing school at Research Hospital in Kansas City. She married
Joseph Robert ?Bob? Mills Oct. 28, 1956, in Stafford. He died Nov. 19, 1980. A resident of Stafford, moving to Wichita in 1956 and back to Stafford in 1994, she was a registered nurse for Dr. O.W. Longwood's office for 15 years and worked in the emergency room of St. Francis Hospital in Wichita for 15 years. Mrs. Mills was a member of Stafford Church of Christ. Survivors include one brother Wendell Bagley of Wichita; one sister, Margaret Parker of Edmond, Okla.; one stepson, Jon Phillip Mills of Napa, Calif.; and seven stepgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Edrie Murphy and Irma Brock; one brother, Glenn Bagley; and one stepson, Joseph Robert Mills. Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Minnis Chapel in Stafford with Richard Foster officiating. Burial will be at Peace Creek cemetery in rural Stafford. James Casper Copeland 1934-2001
BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - James Casper Copeland, 66, died March 21 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville. He was born Nov. 9, 1934, in Hutchinson, the son of Harvey Roy and Marie Casper Copland. A resident of Bartlesville, formerly of Great Bend, he was a petroleum engineer. Survivors include his wife, Karen K. Copeland of the home; three sons, Curtis Lee Copeland and Craig Allen Copeland, both of Bartlesville, and Christopher Copeland of Verdigress, Okla.; two sisters, Virginia Hutchins of Enid, Okla., and Connie Kvasnicka of Nevada; and eight grandchildren. Private family services will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home of Bartlesville. Rowena Harriet Lindgren 1909-2001
LARNED - Rowena Harriet Lindgren, 91, died March 21 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus Long Term Care in Larned. She was born Nov. 18, 1909, in Bennington, the daughter of Jason Percival and Clara Shultice Crow. She married
Clyde Stanley Lindgren April 20, 1930, in Salina. He died March 29, 1968. A resident of Larned, coming from Wichita, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Lindgren was a member of Zion Methodist Church in Wichita. Survivors include one niece, Marty Buster of Larned. She was preceded in death by one infant son, Clyde Stanley Jr.; two brothers, Ralph Crow and Joe Crow; five sisters, Winafred Hake, Wilma Barnes, Ura Vivian Eubank, Reba Johnston and Margaret Crow. ST. JOHN - Ruby J. Timmons, 91, died March 21 at Stafford District Hospital. She was born June 20, 1909, in Geneseo, the daughter of Jesse and Anna Jeannette Collinge. She was a 1926 graduate of Geneseo High School. She married
Lawrence E. Timmons July 26, 1927, in Lyons. He died March 28, 1997. A resident of St. John, coming from Cherokee Village, Ark., and Bushton, she was homemaker. Mrs. Timmons was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Rebekah Lodge, all of St. John; and a life member of the National Parent Teacher Association. Survivors include one son, Darrol H. Timmons of Richland, Wash.; one daughter, Marlyn J. Atkinson of St. John; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Tom Collinge; and two sisters, Rose Dobrinski and Kate Handlin. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Minnis Chapel in St. John with the Revs. W. Lester Klein July 9, 1938, in Great Bend. He died July 9, 1998. A resident of La Crosse, coming from Bison, she was a housekeeper for Rush County Hospital. Mrs. Klein was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Holyrood. Survivors include three sons, Billy Klein of Canon City, Colo., Ron Klein of Holyrood and Mel Klein of Bison; three daughters, Lola Duffey of Aurora, Colo., Marilyn Mantz of Bazine and Marsha Klein of Greensburg; two brothers, Cecil Burk of Rush Center and Don Burk of New Iberia, La.; one sister, Audrey Burton of Frisco, Texas; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. LEAVENWORTH - Frank D. 'Butch' Bezemek, 53, died Jan. 19 at the Veterans Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. He was born March 6, 1947, in Stafford, the son of Frank and Vada Bezemek. He was a 1965 graduate of Bushton High School. He attended Pratt Community College. He married
Roberta Gibison in 1967. A resident of Houston, Texas, coming from Frederick, he was a purchasing and parts manager for HB Zachry Company. Bezemek was an Eagle Scout. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1970. Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Amanda Bezemek and Lysa Bezemek of Portland, Ore.; his mother, Vada Bezemek of Olathe; his father and stepmother, Frank and Laura Bezemek of Frederick; one sister, Lucille Rockett of Olathe. Alvin L. Ochs 1911-2001
Alvin L. Ochs, 89, of Great Bend died March 20 at Hoisington Rehabilitation Center. He was born April 13, 1911, in Barton County, the son of Jacob and Kathryn Ochs Ochs. He married
Clara C. Dumler June 11, 1937, at Russell. A resident of Great Bend, coming from Hoisington, he was a farmer. Ochs was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ of Great Bend and a leader of Fairview Scouts 4-H Club of Galatia. Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Lee Ochs of Overland Park and Bob Ochs of Hoisington; two daughters, Mary Luman of Overland Park and Carol Smith of West Milford, N.J.; one sister, Verna Rhorer of Alexandria, Va.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, J.B. Ochs; and two sisters, Florence Dumler and Emma Karst. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington with the Rev. Jay Janousek Aug. 27, 1948, in Oklahoma. He died in April 1990. A resident of Rush County for 30 years, she was a licensed funeral director and co-owner of the Janousek Funeral Home in LaCrosse. Mrs. Janousek was a member of United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, La Crosse Chamber of Commerce and director of Friendship Meals, all of LaCrosse. Survivors include three sons, Jeff Janousek of Wichita, Craig Janousek of LaCrosse and Bobby Janousek of Larned; one brother, Jerry Stowell of Pembroke, Mass.; one sister, Geraldine Thornton of Lake Jackson, Texas; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. W.S. 'Bill' Southern 1918-2001
ELLINWOOD - W.S. 'Bill' Southern, 82, died March 20 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born Aug. 3, 1918, in Ness City, the son of William Leonard and Mabel Stephens Southern. He was a 1936 graduate of Ellinwood High School and he attended the University of Kansas from 1937-40. He married
Helen Heidtbrink Oct. 25, 1942, in Portland, Ore. A resident of Ellinwood, he was an independent life insurance agent representing John Hancock and Transamerica Insurance companies for over 50 years. He served two terms as a member of the Kansas House of Representatives from 1973-76, representing the 113th District. Southern was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Ellinwood, Kappa Sigma Fraternity of the University of Kansas, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Wheat Bowl Foundation, all of Ellinwood; was a member of Great Bend Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, the Kansas Calvary and the Kansas Underwriters Association. He was a 1959 member of the Million Dollar Roundtable for his insurance company. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of World War II. Survivors include wife of Wichita; one son, Bill Southern of Hutchinson; two daughters, Joan Pivonka of Ellinwood and Nancy Bommer of Deer Harbor, Wash.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert E. Southern; and one grandson, Ryan Pivonka. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the church in Ellinwood with the Rev. Larry Young officiating. Nancy Carder Sept. 8, 1962, in Salina. A resident of Ellsworth, coming from Salina, he was owner/operator of Ellsworth Printing Company. Schmidt was a fourth-degree knight, past grand knight and past knight of the year of the Knights of Columbus; an original founder in 1976 and committee member of the Ellsworth "Cowtown Days," portraying Sheriff Chauncey B. Whitney for 25 years; organized Ellsworth's recreational baseball and men's softball programs, was a Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce board member, chamber of commerce citizen of the year in 1992, grand marshall of the Cowtown Parade in 1991 and 2000. He served as a Department of Corrections Ellsworth Correctional Facility committee member, Ellsworth Fire Department volunteer and board member of J.H. Robbins Memorial Library in Ellsworth. Survivors include wife of the home; one son, Gary W. Schmidt of Ellsworth; three daughters, Keri Ann Katzenmeier of Geneseo, Pamela L. Schmidt of McPherson and Stacie J. Wanda J. Welsch Beydler on Sept. 14, 1963, in Lyons. She died Dec. 23, 2000. A resident of Lyons since 1963, he was a farmer, truck driver and roofing contractor. Ziegler was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Willowdale and Veterans of Foreign War of Lyons. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include three stepsons; Calvin L. Beydler of San Diego, Calif., Donald E. Beydler of Great Bend and Milton R. Beydler of Wiggins, Colo.; one stepdaughter; Joyce A. Survivors include one daughter; Janeanne Sue Schlegel of Lindsborg; and one brother, Ben F. Scheuerman of Great Bend. She was preceded in death by one brother, the Rev.
