WICHITA - Corey Glenn Welch, 28, died July 4 at HCA Wesley Hospital in Wichita. He was born Feb. 20, 1973, in Lyons, the son of Ronald and Linda Terrell Welch. He married Francie Trosper June 15, 1996, in Wichita. A resident of Wichita since 1989, he was a meat cutter for Food-4-Less/ Falley's Inc. of Wichita. Welch was a member of United Methodist Church in Sterling. Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Emily Dawn Welch and April Lynn Welch, both of the home; his father and stepmother, Ronald and Lisa Welch of Atlanta Ga.; his mother and stepfather, Linda and George Casement of Wichita; one brother, Shelby H. Welch of Wichita; one sister, Angela Krueger of Topeka; several stepbrothers and stepsisters; and his grandmother, Helen Evans of Sterling. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the church with the Revs. Tom Hawks and Dr. Lee R. Louderback officiating. Burial will be at Sterling Community Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Emily Dawn Welch and April Lynn Welch education fund, in care of Sillin Funeral Home in Sterling. July 8, 2001

Olga Schultz 1901-2001
Olga Schultz, 99, of Great Bend died July 6 at Integrated Health Services in Great Bend. She was born Oct. 24, 1901, the daughter of William and Elizabeth Christiansen Witte. She married George William Schultz Dec. 1, 1920, in Great Bend. He died July 29, 1981. A lifelong resident of Barton County, she was a homemaker and farmer. Mrs. Schultz was a member of First United Methodist Church, Friendship Sunday School Class, Barton County Historical Society, Silver and Gold Club, and volunteered at the Senior Center, all of Great Bend. Survivors include one daughter, Lenora Miller of Great Bend; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Alford Witte and Edwin Witte; and one sister, Sylvia Banks. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend, with the Rev. Dr. Kevin Baxter officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-9 tonight, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church or senior center, both in care of the funeral home. July 8, 2001

Helen R. Dumler 1915-2001
LYONS - Helen R. Dumler, 86, died July 5 at Lyons District Hospital in Lyons. She was born April 23, 1915, in Barton County, the daughter of Fred and Mary Steinert Niedens. She married Paul A. Dumler June 18, 1933 in Milberger. He died Aug. 23, 1993. A resident of Lyons, coming from the Galatia/Milberger area, she was a homemaker and custodian for United Methodist Church in Lyons. Mrs. Dumler was a member of the church, Bonami Sunday School class, United Methodist Women, and Sewing Group, all of Lyons. Survivors include two daughters, Lila Nuss of Russell and Mary Jane Hoffman of Lyons; two brothers, L. D. Niedens of Garden City and Ervin Niedens of Russell; one sister, Alvina Dietz of Great Bend; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Clista Funk and Isabell Schneider; and one infant granddaughter. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Cindy Watson officiating. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Friends may call until 8 tonight at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons. Memorials are suggested to the church or Lyons District Hospital Swingbed, both in care of the funeral home. July 6, 2001

Herman Adolph Robert Rehme 1919-2001
ELLINWOOD - Herman Adolph Robert Rehme, 82, died July 4 at his summer home in Loveland, Colo. He was born March 25, 1919, in Ellinwood, the son of Adolph Henry and Anna Louise Dieterle Rehme. He married Velma Margaret Heine Nov. 25, 1945, in Chase. A resident of Barton County, coming from Grand Junction, Colo., he was self employed in sales and service of electrical, plumbing, heating and air-conditioning business in Grand Junction and Ellinwood. Rehme was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, former president of church council, 63 years in the choir, Sunday School teacher, and Lions Club, all of Ellinwood. He was a U.S. Army Medical Corp. veteran of World War II where he served on a hospital train in the European Theatre. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Norman Rehme of Loveland, Edwin Rehme and Erwin Rehme, both of Longmont, Colo.; one brother, Walter Rehme of Ellinwood; and eight grandchildren. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Larry Young officiating. Burial will be at Lakin-Comanche District cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may call from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to the church or Lions Club, both in care of the funeral home. July 6, 2001

Russell Joseph Henderson 1978-2001
WINFIELD - Russell Joseph Henderson, 23, died July 5 at William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield. He was born Jan. 5, 1978, in Great Bend, the son of Martin Arthur and Elizabeth Ellen Sanko Henderson. He was a resident of Winfield. Survivors include his father of Florida; his mother, Beth Bruno of Great Bend; one brother, Tim Henderson of Great Bend; one half-sister, Theresa Arnold of Great Bend; and three grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Sanko of Great Bend and Meg Kinzel of Hutchinson. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ellinwood with the Rev. David Flagor officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, north of Great Bend. Friends may call from 5-8 tonight at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to Creative Community Living in Winfield, in care of the funeral home. July 6, 2001

Michael J. Raffelock 1954-2001
THORNTON, Colo. - Michael J. Raffelock, 47, died at his home in Thornton. He was born March 2, 1954, in Lawrence, the son of Ralph and Amelia Raffelock. He was a graduate of Great Bend High School, Red Rock Community College and Colorado Christian College. A resident of Thornton, he was the owner/operator of Lasting Impressions Custom Design in Thornton and former superintendent of Summit Legend Construction Company of Denver, Colo. Raffelock was a member of the Order of the Arrow and an Eagle Scout. Survivors include one son, Ryan Raffelock of Wheat Ridge, Colo.; two daughters, Heather Gambrell of Overland Park and Elyse Raffelock of Wheat Ridge; one brother, Troy J. Raffelock of Granger, Ind.; two sisters, Leslie Raffelock and Shelbi Raffelock, both of Great Bend; and three grandchildren. A memorial service was held Monday at Arvada Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Duffy Deardorf officiating. Memorials are suggested to Barton County Community College in care of the Raffelock family. July 6, 2001

Donald Ray Linsner 1946-2001
HOISINGTON - Donald Ray Linsner, 54, died July 3 at his residence in Hoisington. He was born Sept. 28, 1946, in Great Bend, the son of Ervin J. and Edna B. Esfeld Linsner. He married Dee Ann Bennett Aug. 23, 1965, in Great Bend. A lifelong resident of Hoisington, he was a retired carman for the Union Pacific Railroad. Linsner was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, both of Hoisington and Transportation Communication Union. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves. Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Karla Schroeder of Hutchinson and Leslie Klug of Hoisington; two brothers, Kirby Lisner of Hoisington and Elwyn Linsner of McPherson; and three grandchildren. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington, followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Pascal Klein officiating. Burial will be at St. John cemetery in Hoisington. Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church or Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice, all in care of the funeral home. July 5, 2001.

Eva DeWald 1900-2001
Eva DeWald, 100, of Great Bend, died July 2 at Integrated Health Services in Great Bend. She was born Oct. 23, 1900, in Russell, the daughter of John George and Katherine Elizabeth Lohmann DeWald. She was a graduate of Russell High School, Fort Hays State University and the University of California, at Berkeley. A resident of Great Bend, coming from Hoisington, Wellington, Russell and Florida, she was a retired teacher. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Delta Kappa Sorority, both in Russell. Survivors include two nieces, Danelda St. Aubyn of Great Bend and Peggy Ehrlich of Russell. She was preceded in death by six brothers, John DeWald, David DeWald, Daniel DeWald, Walter DeWald, Henry DeWald and Robert Michael DeWald; and five sisters, Lydia St. Aubyn, Bertha Wenger, Amelia Kelly, Clara Krug and Martha Harrop. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Pohlman's Mortuary Memorial Chapel in Russell, with the Rev. Harlan Kaden officiating. Burial will be at Russell City Cemetery. Friends may call until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday, all at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Methodist Church Scholarship Fund or Russell County Historical Society, both in care of the mortuary. July 5, 2001.

Ludwig Schuckman 1913-2001
LA CROSSE - Ludwig Schuckman, 88, died July 3 at Rush County Memorial Hospital in La Crosse. He was born March 28, 1913, in Rush County, the son of John J. and Margaret Heili Schuckman. He married Esther Schaffer Nov. 26, 1935, in La Crosse. A lifelong resident of Rush County, he was a farmer. Schuckman was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council, both in La Crosse. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, LeeRoy Schuckman of Hays and Eddie Schuckman of La Crosse; one daughter, Norma Jean Kirby of Wichita; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Alex Schuckman, Dan Schuckman, Herbert Schuckman, Adam Schuckman and Berthold Schuckman; and two sisters, Wilheimina Dreher and Caroline Kuhn. Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. at Janousek Funeral Home in La Crosse. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Benjamin Martin officiating. Burial will be at La Crosse City Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Ludwig J. Evelyn J. Lippelmann 1919-2001
LYONS - Evelyn J. Lippelmann, 82, died July 3 at Sandstone Heights Nursing Home in Little River. She was born April 7, 1919, in Lyons, the daughter of Samuel and Fern Aves Rickabaugh. She graduated from Lyons High School and attended Lindenwood College in St. Joseph, Mo. She married Raymond H. Lippelmann Oct. 20, 1946, in Lyons. He died April 1, 1996. A lifelong resident of Lyons, she was a former financial manager of Rickabaugh Motors and a homemaker. Mrs. Lippelmann was a member of First Presbyterian Church, manager of the chamber of commerce, PEO Sisters, Town and Country Club, director of the library board, 4-H and Cub Scouts, all in Lyons. Survivors include one son, Roger Lippelmann of Lyons; one daughter, Karen Gay of Batavia, Ill.; one sister, Pauline McElwee of Gainsville, Fla.; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Rick Lippelmann and James Lippelmann. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Ted Weis officiating. Burial will be at Lyons Municipal Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-7 p.m. Thursday at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons. Memorials are suggested to Lyons Municipal Library or Lyons USD 405 Education Endowment Foundation, both in care of the funeral home. July 4, 2001

Vernon D. Burhenn 1932-2001
GILBERT, Ariz. - Vernon D. Burhenn, 69, died July 2 at Chandler Regional Medical Center in Chandler, Ariz. He was born Feb. 28, 1932, the son of Paul and Bertha Langrehr Burhenn. He was a graduate of Great Bend High School. He married Leah Daugherty June 11, 1952, in Alva, Okla. A resident of Gilbert, coming from Hoisington and Great Bend, he was the former owner of Sherman Machine Works in Hoisington. Burhenn was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Gilbert. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, David Burhenn and Russell Burhenn, both of Topeka; three daughters, Pamela Dietz of Lee's Summit, Mo., Sandra Rebel of Lincoln, Neb., and Kelli Slous of Chandler; two brothers, Irvin Burhenn of El Dorado and Virgil Burhenn of Great Bend; three sisters, Evelyn Schartz of Ellinwood, Luella Schwager and Flossie Dewey, both of Great Bend; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Jessica. Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington, with the Rev. Pascal Klein officiating. Burial will be at Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association o American Lung Association, both in care of the funeral home. July 4, 2001

August Herman 'Gus' Tammen 1916-2001
PAWNEE ROCK - August Herman "Gus" Tammen, 84, died July 2 at his home in rural Pawnee Rock. He was born Dec. 3, 1916, in Clarence Township, Barton County, the son of Herman Jr. and Augusta Louise Mary Neese Tammen. He married Margaret Iola Naylor Aug. 24, 1941, in Great Bend. A lifelong resident of rural Pawnee Rock, he was a farmer. Tammen was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of Albert, where he served on the church council. He was a member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War, both of Great Bend, and served on the USD 11 school board. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Ron Tammen of Pawnee Rock; two daughters, Rhonda Tutak of Hays and Reva Dougherty of Great Bend; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Prayer service will be at 4 today at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. David E. Carlson officiating. Burial will be at Peace Lutheran cemetery in Albert. Friends may call until 9 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home. July 4, 2001

Junior Edward Cate 1922-2001
ELLINWOOD - Junior Edward Cate, 78, died July 1 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Aug. 31, 1922, in Lyons, the son of Edgar Allen and Alice Bell Cate. He married Lois Baxter Dec. 9, 1950, in Hutchinson. A resident of Ellinwood, he retired from Stevens Well Service in 1987. Cate was a member of Raymond Baptist Church of Raymond and American Legion of Ellinwood. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Michael Andrew Cate of Wichita; four daughters, Connie Gayle Carrier of Albert, Judy Shearl Hitchcock of Colorado Springs, Colo., Cindy Huff of Larned and Christi Robin Tiede of Hays; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Bob Bethel officiating. Burial will be at Hilltop cemetery in Raymond. Friends may call from 6-8 tonight and from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, all at Kimple Funeral Home in Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home. July 3, 2001
