Raney James Hottovy 2001-2001
MACKSVILLE - Raney James Hottovy, 1 day, died Aug. 3 at Wesley Medical
Center in Wichita. He was born Aug. 2 in Wichita, the son of Ken J. and
Kimberly Jo Hottovy.
Survivors include his parents of Trousdale; four sisters, Kaylee Elizabeth
Hottovy and McKinley Rose Hottovy, both of Trousdale, Candice Hottovy and
Ashley Hottovy, both of Brainard, Neb.; and his grandparents, Betty and
Steve Gardner of Greensburg and Dorothy Hottovy of Ulysses, Neb. He was
preceded in death by his grandfather, Reynold Hottovy.
There will be a private family service with the Rev. David Upp. Burial will
be at Prattsburg cemetery in rural Edwards County. Friends may call from
4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Minnis Chapel in Macksville. Memorials are suggested to
Wesley Medical Center, Neo-Natal Care Unit in Wichita, in care of the
funeral chapel.

Angela B. Weers 1921-2001
ELLSWORTH - Angela B. Weers, 80, died Aug. 4 at Larned Healthcare Center in
Larned. She was born March 20, 1921, in Odin, the daughter of Frank and
Anna Penka. She married Melvin C. Weers Sept. 16, 1941, in Larned. He died
in 1997. A resident of Stafford County since 1941, she was a homemaker and
cook for Radium Schools in Radium.
Mrs. Weers was a member of Xavier Catholic Church in Seward.
Survivors include one son, Francis "Frank" H. Weers of Williamsburg; one
daughter, Diane M. Krupp of Ellsworth; one sister, Cecilia Hall of Larned;
five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by one son, Richard M. Weers; nine brothers, Frank Penka, Lucas
Penka, August Penka, John Penka, Joe Penka, Bruno Penka, Raymond Penka,
Ludwig Penka and Gilbert Penka; and four sisters, Albina Kirmer, Martha
Schneweis, Isabel Slattery and Sarah Hawk.
Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Minnis Chapel in St. John, with the
Rev. Rene Guesnier officiating. Burial will be at Trinity cemetery in
Hudson. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, in care of the
funeral chapel.
Aug. 6, 2001

Larry Locke 1944-2001
GORHAM - Larry Locke, 57, died Aug. 3 at Russell Regional Hospital at
Russell. He was born July 7, 1944, in Great Bend, the son of Sigmund and
Frances Boxberger Locke. He married Gayle F. Guliford July 12, 1982, in
Hoisington. A resident of Russell, Ellis and Barton Counties most of his
life, he was a roustabout in the oil fields of the area.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Terry Lynn Locke of Hays;
his mother, Frances Huffman of Gorham; one sister, Sharon Miller of Gorham;
and one grandchild.
The body will be cremated with a memorial service scheduled for a later
date. Funeral arrangements are in care of Pohlman's Mortuary in Russell.
Aug. 5, 2001

Donald D. Deutsch 1939-2001
WICHITA - Donald D. Deutsch, 61, died Aug. 2. He was born Aug. 11, 1939, in
Great Bend, the son of Alvin and Viola Kerbs Deutsch. He was an insurance
agent for Willis of Kansas.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Dea; his mother of Great Bend; and one sister,
Judy Mitchell of Golden, Colo.
Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery
in Goddard. Celebration of life service will follow at Autumn Ridge
clubhouse in Wichita. Memorials are suggested to Jerry and Don Deutsch
Scholarship Fund c/o Larry McCullen, 2105 25th, Great Bend 67530, or Kansas
Aviation Museum, 3350 South George Washington Boulevard, Wichita 67210,
both in care of Downing & Lahey Mortuary West Chapel in Wichita.

Lillie B. Blake 1908-2001
ROZEL - Lillie B. Blake, 93, died Aug. 2 at Rush County Memorial Hospital
in La Crosse. She was born June 14, 1908, at Butler, Mo., the daughter of
George L. and Sallie D. Keeton Moore. She married Ernest L. Blake in
Jetmore April 30, 1930. A resident of Pawnee and Rush Counties since the
age of 2, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Blake was a member of Rozel Baptist Church, was a former Sunday school
teacher and youth leader, and was active in the Women's Missionary Society.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two daughters, Zola Sickles of
Ames, Iowa, and Sallie Blake of Tucson, Ariz.; two sons, G. Leonard Blake
of Larned and Lillard D. Blake of Santa Rosa, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 17
great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by two brothers, Earl Moore and Buford Moore; and two sisters,
Zelma and Marjorie.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel in Larned
with the Rev. John Hester officiating. Friends may call until 8 p.m. today
and from 9 a.m. until service time on Monday, all at the mortuary. Burial
will be at Larned Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the church, in care
of the mortuary.

Lawrence Henry 1909-2001
HOISINGTON - Lawrence Henry, 92, died Aug. 2 at Hoisington Rehabilitation
Center in Hoisington. He was born July 23, 1909, in Ellsworth County, the
son of Alfred Herbert and Hattie Belle Burk Henry. He married Amelia
Huggins Aug. 7, 1930, in Salina. A resident of Hoisington, coming from
Ellsworth, he was a farmer and stockman in Carneiro Community.
Henry was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Marilyn Lindsay of
Hoisington; six grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren. He was preceded
in death by one son, Eugene Earl Henry; and three sisters.
Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Buckeye cemetery in
rural Kanopolis, with the Nancy Oehler officiating. Friends may call until
8 tonight and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, all at Parsons Funeral Home in
Ellsworth. Memorials are suggested to the J.H. Robbins Memorial Library, in
care of the funeral home.

Lester Allen Christiansen 1912-2001
MACKSVILLE - Lester Allen Christiansen, 89, died Aug. 1 at Central Kansas
Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Feb. 29, 1912,
in Rush County. He was a graduate of Hutchinson High School and attended
one year at Hutchinson Jr. College. He married Georgia Irene Dec. 23, 1935,
in Greensburg. A resident of Macksville, coming from Albert, he was a
farmer and stockman.
Christiansen was a member of Macksville Christian Church, and was a charter
member of the American Quarter Horse Association.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Marlene Murphy of
Macksville; one sister, Luella Brown of Houston, Texas; and six
stepgrandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Carey Hamer
officiating. Burial will be at Larned cemetery in Larned. Friends may call
from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Minnis Chapel in Macksville. Memorials are
suggested to the church, in care of the funeral chapel.

Mary Louise Thurow 1911-2001
MACKSVILLE - Mary Louise Thurow, 89, died May 27 in Harlingen, Texas. She
was born Aug. 8, 1911, in Greensburg, the daughter of Grace Batman. She
married Lovell Thurow in March 1928. He died in 1958. A resident of
Harlingen, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Thurow was a member of Macksville Christian Church and OES, both of
Mackville.
Survivors include her daughter, Avis Thurow Perry of Mt. Pleasant, Texas;
seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by one daughter, Barbara Lou Hurlay; two brothers; and three sisters.
Memorial graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Farmington
Cemetery in Macksville, with the Rev. Carey Hamer officiating. There is no
visitation, cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to the
church, in care of Minnis Chapel in Macksville.

Maud E. Rumsey Carpenter 1894-2001
LARNED - Maud E. Rumsey Carpenter, 106, died July 30 at Healthcare and
Living Center in Larned. She was born Nov. 18, 1894, in Lyons, the daughter
of Ira and Lulu Middlekauf Romig. She married Walter Bliss Rumsey Feb. 6,
1923. She married Ben Carpenter June 22, 1945, in Larned. He died July 28,
1972. A resident of Larned, she was a homemaker and worked at JC Penney
Store and Lichesky Dry Goods, both in Larned.
Mrs. Carpenter was a member of Presbyterian Church in Larned. She was the
clerk of the Pawnee County Draft Board during World War II.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Lou Smith of Larned; one sister,
Dorothy Hirsch of Cortez, Colo.; nine grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded
in death by two sons, Walter Rumsey and Reed Rumsey; three brothers; and
five sisters.
Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at the church, with the Rev.
Jim Hawthorne officiating. Inurnment will be at Larned Cemetery. Friends
may call from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at Morell Funeral Home in Larned.
Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of the funeral home.

Debra Rene Tatman Strecker 1959-2001
SALINA - Debra Rene Tatman Strecker, 41, died July 20 at her home in
Salina. She was born Aug. 29, 1959, in Eureka, the daughter of Joseph and
Dolores White Tatman. She married Don Strecker Aug. 29, 1999, in Panola
County, Texas. A resident of Salina, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband of the home; three daughters, Melissa Tatman,
Jessica Dreher and Jennifer Dreher, all of the home; one stepson, Eric
Strecker of Wichita; her mother, Dolores White of Waskom, Texas; three
brothers, Joseph Tatman of Waskom, Stevan Tatman of Great Bend and Michael
Ruppe of Ellinwood; three sisters, Pamela Golladay of Panola, Stephanie
Minucci of Grapevine, Texas, and Carmen Hunt of Conway Springs; one
half-brother, Larry Reigel of Washington, N.C.; four half-sisters; Linda
Johnson of Washington, Patsy Reedy of Gilbert, Ariz., Rea Ann Stephens of
Ayden, N.C., and Deanna Fuller of WaKeeney; and one grandson. She was
preceded in death by one son, Shawn Tatman; and one brother, Daniel Tatman.
Funeral was July 25 at Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel in Plainville with
the Rev. Ron Fontenot officiating. Burial was at Plainville Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Debra Strecker Memorial Fund, in care of the
funeral chapel.

Charlotte E. Schlagel 1912-2001
HOISINGTON - Charlotte E. Schlagel, 89, died Sept. 27, at Royal Terrace
Nursing Home in Olathe. She was born June 5, 1912, at Olmitz, the daughter
of Moritz and Augusta Krestine Reimer. She married Conrad OCarl' Schlagel,
March 31, 1938 in Hoisington, he died Oct. 26, 1975. A lifelong resident of
Hoisington, she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Schlagel was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, AARP and LWML
Ladies Group both in Hoisington.
Survivors include one daughter, Wilma Steinle of Mesa Ariz.; one sister,
Irene Snyder; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by one brother, Maurice Reimer, and four sisters, Theresa
Keenan, Lena Lindsay, Augusta Mantz, and Susie Hudson.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Golden Belt Memorial Park
Cemetery in Barton County with the Rev. Garry Dassow officiating. Friends
may call from 1-9 p.m. today at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington.
The family will receive friends at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home
then process to the cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the church in care
of the funeral home.

Dorothy Ellen Murphy Ochs 1917-2001
HOISINGTON - Dorothy Ellen Murphy Ochs, 84, died Sept. 27, at Boone Hospital
Center in Columbia, Mo. She was born Feb. 18, 1917, at Hoisington, the
daughter of Thomas E. and Frances Marjorie Wildgen Murphy. She was a
graduate of Halstead Nursing School. She married Martin Ochs Aug. 3, 1940,
at Wichita, he died Oct. 10, 1984. A lifelong resident of Hoisington, she
was a registered nurse at the Hoisington Lutheran Hospital and the Homestead
Villa in Hoisington.
Mrs. Ochs was a member of St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church and Altar
Society in Hoisington.
Survivors include one son, Michael Ochs of Brighton, Colo.; four daughters,
Kathleen McKittrick of Larned, Judy Pauli of Columbia, Mo., Joan Esparza of
Brighton, and Susan Lear of Hiawatha; two sisters, Loretta Younkin of
Torrence, Calif., and Rosemary Garrison of Diamondhead, Miss., and nine
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son, David Peter Ochs
and one sister, Patricia Nuss.
Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. tonight followed by an Altar Society Rosary.
Funeral will be at 9 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Pascal Klein
officiating. Burial will be at St. John Catholic cemetery in Hoisington.
Friends may call from 1-9 p.m. today at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church in care of the funeral home.
