Richard L. Rhan 1930-2001

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Richard L. Rhan, 71, died Nov. 28 at Life Care Center
in New Market, Va. He was born Oct. 24, 1930, in White Oaks, Md., the son of
Theodore and Ola Delta Fitzgerald Rhan. He married Katherine Rhan. She
preceded him in death. A resident of Virginia Beach, he was a retired
corrections officer.
Rhan was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include one son, Rick Rhan of Great Bend; his mother of New
Market; one brother, Robert Rhan of New Market; one sister, Joyce Schofield
of Canada; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
There is no funeral or visitation. His body has been donated to Virginia
State Anatomical Program in Richmond, Va. Arrangements were handled by Theis
Funeral Chapel in New Market.

Sid L. McGough 1927-2001

WICHITA - Sid L. McGough, 74, died Dec. 1 in Wichita. He was born in 1927,
the son of Sid C. and Fanell McGough. A resident of Wichita, coming from
Great Bend, he was a retired oil industry executive.
Survivors include his wife, Jean, of the home; two sons, Larry McGough of
Canyon Lake, Texas, and Ron McGough of Duncan, Okla.; one brother, Harley
McGough of Plainville; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Resthaven Mortuary in Wichita. There is
no visitation listed. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes
Association, in care of the mortuary.

Ruth Thach Marcotte 1929-2001

MULLINVILLE - Ruth Thach Marcotte, 72, died Dec. 1 at Hilltop House in
Bucklin. She was born Jan. 24, 1929, the daughter of James R. and Ethel
Selby Thach. She was a 1947 graduate of Mullinville High School and attended
Wichita State University. A resident of Bucklin, coming from Greensburg,
Wichita and Great Bend, she managed the Gables Cafe in Mullinville from 1962
to 1968 and owned Ruth's Style Shop in Great Bend from 1968 to 1983.
She was a member of United Methodist Church in Mullinville, past president
of the General Federation of Women's Clubs of Kansas and Star of Hope
Chapter 193 of Order of the Eastern Star in Greensburg.
Survivors include one son, Rick Sherer of Mullinville; one daughter, Linda
Rhodes of Derby; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by one brother, Ray Thach.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev.
Morita Truman officiating. Cremation has taken place, there is no
visitation. Inurnment will be at Hillcrest cemetery in Mullinville.
Memorials are suggested to the church, in care of Mullinville State Bank and
Fleener Funeral Home in Greensburg.

Laura A. Huffman 1932-2001

Laura A. Huffman, 69, of Great Bend, died Dec. 1 at Central Kansas Medical
Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. She was born July 12, 1932, in North
Carolina, the daughter of Lloyd Clayton and Mary Jane Phillips. She married
Francis Huffman June 18, 1984, in Great Bend. A lifelong resident of Barton
County, she worked as a cook and waitress before retiring.
Mrs. Huffman was a member of First Bible Baptist Church in Great Bend.
Survivors include her husband of the home; one son, Charles H. Kepford of
Wichita; four daughters, Debbie S. Kepford of Ellinwood, Rita K. Rowe of
Hudson, Karen D. Kepford of Larned and Laura L. Collins of Oceanside,
Calif.; one sister, Ruth Pinkelton of Dallas, N.C.; and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fryberger Mortuary Chapel in Great
Bend, with the Rev. Robert Morris officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest
Cemetery in Great Bend. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with
the family receiving from 5-7 p.m., all at the mortuary. Memorials are
suggested to Laura A. Huffman Memorial fund, in care of the mortuary.

Lawrence 'Larry' Jerome Sisson 1938-2001

Lawrence "Larry" Jerome Sisson, 63, died Nov. 30 at Central Kansas Medical
Center, St. Rose Campus in Great Bend. He was born Aug. 18, 1938, in
Hutchinson, the son of Walter J. and Muriel L. Itel Sisson. He was a 1956
graduate of Great Bend High School and attended Kansas University. He
married Linda Lou Becker Oct. 4, 1958, in Great Bend. A resident of Great
Bend for most his life, he was president and co-owner of LWH Rental and
Development Inc. and vice-president and co-owner of Becker Tire and
Treading Inc., both of Great Bend.
Sisson was a member and deacon at First Christian Church in Great Bend. He
was past president of Kansas Tire Dealers Association and was on the board
of directors of National Tire Dealers Association. On Feb. 17, he received
the Mid-America Tire Dealers Association Industry Service Award for
"unselfish dedication and meritorious service for the tire industry."
Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Scott J. and Dawn M.
Sisson of Great Bend; one daughter, Debra L. Sisson and Curtis Hunter of
Hoisington; four sisters, Janell Bowman of Great Bend, Jeanette Tammen of
Timken, Shirley Burhenn of ElDorado and Johannah Sisson of LaGuna Beach,
Calif.; one son-in-law, Bryan and Angie Schenk of Great Bend; and nine
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Pam K. Schenk;
three brothers, Walter "Bud" Sisson, William F. Sisson and John Sisson; one
sister, Lois W. Seago; and one grandson, Aaron J. Sisson.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. William
F. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may
call from 1-9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at
Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend. Memorials are suggested to
First Christian Church Building Fund, in care of the funeral home.

Dorothy L. Black 1927-2001

RUSSELL - Dorothy L. Black, 74, died Nov. 28 at Metroplex Hospital in
Killeen, Texas. She was born April 12, 1927, at Madison, the daughter of
James Luther and Eva Cornelia Thompson Rhyne. She was a graduate of Gorham
High School. She married Tom W. Black Sept. 3, 1946, at Russell. He died
July 5, 1979. A resident of Russell, coming from Hays, she was employed at
Travonel in Hays and by the Hays school district for several years.
Mrs. Black was a member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars
Auxiliaries, both of Russell.
Survivors include four sons, Jim Black and Tom Black, both of Bakersfield,
Calif., Robert Black of Stillwater, Okla., and Monty Black of Lenexa; one
daughter, Lori Hodges of Killeen; one brother, Ralph "Red" Rhyne of
Augusta; one sister, Doris Dean of Greenland, Ark.; 12 grandchildren; and
nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Francis
"Punk" Rhyne; and one sister, Nita Bedwell.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pohlman's Memorial Chapel in Russell
with the Rev. Glen Tombaugh officiating. Burial will be at Russell City
Cemetery in Russell. Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from
9 a.m. to service time Wednesday, all at the mortuary. Memorials are
suggested to Diabetes Association or American Heart Association, both in
care of the mortuary.

Jaiden Rhae Randall 2001-2001

Jaiden Rhae Randall, infant daughter of Mark W. and Kimberly J. Randall,
died Nov. 29 at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus in Great
Bend.
Survivors include her parents of Great Bend; two brothers, Jackson Randall
and Jensen Randall, both of the home; grandparents, John and Carol Harris
of Great Bend and Elaine Randall of Wakeeney; and great-grandmother, Marie
Randall of Shawnee.
A private family service was held Saturday with the Rev. Shawn Winters
officiating. Burial was at Great Bend Cemetery. No memorials are suggested.
Bryant-Christians Funeral Home in Great Bend was in charge of arrangements.

James P. 'Jim' Nelson Jr. 1925-2001

GENESEO - James P. "Jim" Nelson Jr., 76, died Nov. 29 at Veterans
Administration Medical Center in Wichita. He was born Nov. 25, 1925, at
Barnsdall, Okla., the son of James P. and Donna Marie Pollock Nelson. He
was a graduate of University of Kansas with a masters degree in journalism.
He married Beatrice Rowe July 1, 1957, at Miami, Okla. A resident of
Geneseo, coming from Holyrood, he was a retired newspaper editor for the
Wichita Eagle Beacon, El Paso Times, Lubbock Avalanche Journal and Topeka
Capital Journal.
Nelson was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife of the home; five sons, James P. "Jay" Nelson
III of Augusta, Edward Nelson of Moundridge, Mark Nelson and Burr Nelson,
both of Geneseo, and Nathan Nelson of Salina; two daughters, Anna Marie
Nelson of Plano, Texas, and Roseann Nelson of Salina; one brother, Clarence
"Bud" Nelson of Chase; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons, with
John Summers officiating. Burial will be at Bushton cemetery in Bushton.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral
home. Memorials are suggested to Basic Center for Cancer Research at Kansas
State University, in care of the funeral home.

Richard 'Dick' Duncan 1927-2001

SYLVIA - Richard "Dick" Duncan, 74, died Nov. 30 at Hutchinson Hospital. He
was born Nov. 28, 1927, in Stafford County, the son of S.N. "Sam" and
Lucille Haggett Duncan. He was a graduate of Sylvia High School. He married
Maxine Bruer Sept. 26, 1973, at Sylvia. A longtime resident of Sylvia, he
was a oilfield pumper and had worked as a power plant operator for KSIR in
Hutchinson.
Duncan was a member of First United Methodist Church of Sylvia and the
Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two step-daughters, Kathy Brugey of
Sylvia and Theresa Kraus of Scandia; four stepgrandchildren; and one
stepgreat-grandson.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Minnis Chapel in Stafford with the
Rev. Harry Graves officiating. Burial will be at Sylvia Cemetery. Friends
may call from 1-8 p.m. today at the chapel. Memorials are suggested to the
church or Leisure Homestead of Stafford, both in care of the funeral
chapel.
